In this show, host Kristyn Burtt breaks down the episode in which the winner is announced. There to help Kristyn are co-hosts Jake DuPree, Anna Trebunskaya, and Suri Serano. Fantastic episode! I'm going to miss you guys so much in the next 3 months. Tristan is ALWAYS a great addition. Very honest and fair with his critiques and ever so funny. And gosh that accent ;) I really hope he's a pro next season. Please tptb make it so along with Henry! Can't wait to catch a glimpse of baby T next season, I'm sure she (I'm getting girl vibes as well don't know why) will be just as gorgeous as momma. Oh btw I didn't see Corbin's mistake either but he agreed with the judges and also mentioned that he did miss some steps during an interview afterwards and how he didn't want to disappoint Karina. He was so amazing that we didn't see it. Such a great season! I too would have been happy with any of the 4 winning and really thought it might be Jack and Amber too but I was team Amber and after that freestyle and the excellent finale, I was like please take it! Lol. Like I said, I'll miss you Kristyn, Suri, Jake and Anna. Hope it's the full team again next season.

I LOVE you guys! I've been a HUGE DWTS fan since Season 1. Tristan and Anna are funny and have great one-liners. You guys said everything I was thinking regarding the whole fantastic Season. I really agree that the "glitter pit" shouldn't be on the floor. I was also happy that Amber won! Derek is AMAZING and his choreo for the freestyle kicked a**! Keep up the great job :)

Thank you to everyone from After Buzz. Suri I agree with you about Corbin and Karina's fantastic free style. I loved it!!! Love watching all of you every week and will miss you. Great show- it had a happy, cozy feel today :) An interesting point Tristan made about Bill being on-time but just moving at a slower pace, and saying he (Tristan- meself hahah) does the same compared to Gleb, Mark, or Val and he alo looks offtime, but it is because he is a "softer"dancer and not as sharp. I had seen someone on a forum comment about Tristan seeming slower and after watching, just attributed to him being a more calm, easy-peasy dancer.

Jack's freestyle was perfect for him. I loved the old Hollywood feel.
I agree. At first I thought, "Oh, no..this is going to be too traditional Broadway as compared to the more creative pieces everyone else is doing" but it was spectacular and I think it was his happy spirit just effusing on the dance floor.
Thanks for still doing the aftershow last Wednesday with all the traffic. I was surprised how far Bill went this cycle. Emma deserves kudos for her first cycle as a pro finishing in 4th. I have a good feeling she will be back next cycle. I agree with Kristen, Tuesday Night (Nov 26) cycle finale was so boring. It was a lot of filler. I only watched maybe the last 20-30 minutes. So glad Amber won as a gleek although with Amber Corbin and Jack in the finals, I would have been glad with anyone winning. I wanted Jack to win. I think the final 3 have to be glad that its over especially Amber cause she was doing that and filming Glee at the same time. Cant wait for cycle 18.
I was a little disappointed in Corbin's freestyle. I liked his jazz trio so much better. Amber's freestyle was amazing.
Corbin danced amazingly the *whole season*. He impressed with so many intricate dances. It was right for him to do a trick-filled routine, paying tribute to an idol that not many dare to emulate. Kudos to him and Karina for a job well done.
Amber's freestyle was amazing too. The choreo and production were great. BUT, keep in mind that Amber never had outstanding dances during the season. This is not just my opinion, check CAI's blog and so many media outlets that ranked Corbin the front-runner for his quality of dancing.
There. What Anna said about the jazz trio. I think that should have been the freestyle. I should have waited to comment after.

its always a good episode when Tristan pops up :) H, Henry and Julz are my favorite guests this season so insightful and fun. Oh Sasha and Emma too! This has been a awesome season on afterbuzz dwts great job everyone! though Im not too happy with the show outcome and topsy turvy it was fun watching
The judges has been just as harsh to Amber as Corbin so.... Amber Riley won fair and square worked hard. And she can dance. I concur she was over all the best. Well deserved win. Yeah,she has a huge fanbase. Still she earned that win. Sidenote,it was left in the hands of the viewers. And they choose Amber Riley. So congrats....
IMO I think they were harder on Corbin. Len was harsh on her one week, but that was when Elizabeth was his favorite dancer. Once she was eliminated he became easier on Amber. Amber did win fair and square. She has a huge following from the Gleeks and Derek has his own huge fan base. There was no way she was going to lose. She is very good, but jmho the routines were harder for Corbin. Amber had knee issues and Derek is a brilliant choreographer who knew how to choreograph routines where Amber was sitting down and using her hands more. She might not have won with a different pro and I'm not putting her down for that because she couldn't help her injuries. I do think having Derek helped her. He has won 5 times so he certainly knows what he is doing.
I really enjoyed the MJ freestyle, and all the signature moves in there. For me, it's like when I go to Vegas for an MJ show: I want and expect to relieve MJ moments. But I agree it's a matter of taste.
I guess my taste is the same as you because I absolutely loved Corbin's freestyle and for me it was the best of the night. I was wowed by it!!!
I agree that the cast definitely made the whole season really good!!! Also loved that Emma n Sasha were pros n the troupe was smaller!!! What I did miss was some of the pro numbers n confessionals from the result shows. I do hope next season they get rid of the sexy bus stop/glitter pit n move the judging table back to the other side!!! One thing that they should never change is Tom Bergeron as the host!!!
I knew Jake was gonna be so smug and hilarious when Amber won, but I don't even blame him! I'd enjoy being the only one that was right, too!
Let's take a real look at DWTS. Last season we had Kelly Pickler and the DWTS All American fan favorite Derek Hough winning the Mirrorball over the season long high scorers Zendaya Coleman & Val Chmerkovskiy. The show took a lot of criticism over those results and had to make amends. Lets pair up our golden boy with a African American girl who just happens to be on one of the most popular tv shows, Genius! Now lets make sure they win. Amber & Derek come out of the gates smoking the field, this is going to be easy. Then came the injuries to Amber's knee which threw a monkey wrench into their plans but they were determined to get her and Derek those Mirrorballs. Week 8 I believe was the show where the highest scoring dancer didn't have to perform in the dance off, Amber was the last to dance (how many times did that happen this season) and she just happens to edge out everyone by one point and doesn't have to dance again, giving her aching knees a rest (surprisingly no one this show even picked up on that). Week 7 Corbin doesn't get a 10 from Len because he didn't like the gyrating hips, depriving him of a perfect score, yet Amber gyrates her hips, booty drops, shakes everything, and they love it, she has such great musicality they say. Oh and Jake Dupree, you proclaim to not like Corbin because he is too Disney glossy. I wonder if you have you ever had an opportunity to speak with Corbin? Corbin has been a working professional since he was two years old, he speaks clearly and intelligently, works his butt off, and was accepted to Stanford before he even worked for Disney. Corbin doesn't need an affirmation from you Jake that he is a good dancer, so you can hang on to your jealousy. Also so many people posted how they felt Corbin was arrogant, cocky, and egotistic, especially after his HSM themed jive, I guess you're not suppose to show any emotion unless you're Derek. I think some people feel if a celebrity has more skills than the one they're rooting for then you have to find something in their character to attack to diminish them in some way. I have more respect for the people who just simply say that some celebrities shouldn't be on the show because they're too good. Anyway I digress so back to the actual competition, the producers were clever enough to get rid of all of Amber's stronger female competitors earlier so that there would be no other good female dancers Amber could be compared to at the end, especially getting rid of Christina Milian first to not have another female of color around that she would possibly have to split votes with. I actually have to give you a little credit Jake Dupree for realizing that Amber was the only one given a repeat dance that was not ballroom, giving her another opportunity to shake her hips, do booty drops, and show her fabulous musicality that everyone likes to say she has. I really could talk about so many more times this season where the producers positioned Amber & Derek to win, something that Suri actually mentioned this season but didn't elaborate on. I want you know that I'm actually a black man and liked that Amber won, she worked her butt off, but I don't believe she was the most deserving. DWTS gets to deliver their first AA women winner, also giving their Emmy winning golden boy his 5th Mirrorball, and therefore getting redemption from some of the same fans who felt Zendaya was robbed last season. Can't wait to see what happens next season!

biggd10 No one care what you think, she won the trophy and no one can take that away from her...you mention Christina Milian, she can dance, but she was a little stiff, and i think her personality didn't connect with the fans... Why isn't one talking about Lea, she was in the semi final, no one says anything about her moving ahead of Christina, Snooki, and Elizabeth, because they were better dancer than her, but you are putting Amber down, she worked her butt off to win that trophy..Derek knows how to bring out the best in his partners, which i commend him for..Ultimate Brody is absolutely right, you are and absolute weirdo......
Amber won fair and square. Derek is a genius choreographer, but Amber KILLED her dances. Sure Corbin danced great, but he was on Broadway, a professional. Amber said herself, she had to choose dance or singing. Amber is an amazing singer, but not a dancer. I was mad that Derek and Shawn didn't win the All-Star season, but I got over it. At the end of the day, it's just a reality dance show.
***** Really,Amber who? Amber Riley singer/actress. Signed to Columbia/Sony. Debut album on the way. Do research. Btw,Corbin is not the only one who get's praises from legends. Chaka Khan,Patti Labelle,Stevie Wonder,President Barrack Obama & The First Lady. They've all given props to Amber. I can go on and on. Check your facts. Amber is the real deal whether you like it or not,stop trying to discredit her. Fifty dollar trophy or not she's still the champion. Michael has called a lot of people fantastic dancers examples Usher,Chris Brown,who he knew personally. This is about Amber not Derek. Which many don't understand. Amber will continue to be great.
wonderful episode. DWTS is one of the very few TV shows I watch, so next 3 months will be pretty dull. I loved how Jake bragged about getting his predictions correct. I remember last season too, he was the only one to predict the correct order of the top 4. I love his passion for dance, it really shows. I will miss Anna next season. I love her critiques.
There have been some discussions on whether Derek should retire, I just wish you discussed that a bit. I hope he doesn't. His presence and choreography just raises the show to a different level.
As far as I know…Anna isn't going anywhere.

I agree with you, Derek does raise the bar. He is needed on DWTS.
i have trouble understanding how some say producers fixed the results when Amber and Derek were trending worldwide. She connected with the audience. Elizabeth and Christina were fantastic dancers, and got eliminated on week they had high judge's scores, which shows the people just didn't vote enough. Last season, I supported Zendaya eventhough I love Derek, till the freestyle. He won it with the freestyle, plain and simple.
I just don't understand why some people can't accept that the rest of the public might not agree with them. I did not agree with Melissa/Tony's win, but I love the fact that people have a say in the results. I wouldn't want to dismiss the results I don't like by saying it was fixed.
This is just a TV show, there are times I get furious about election results. But then I remember the reason I LOVE this country is because people's voices count. It's very different in other parts of the world. Believe me, I talk from experience.

While I thought this was Corbin's MBT trophy to lose, no one came close to Amber over that 2-night finale. She won the moment she hit the final pose in her freestyle.
Amber is Derek's first partner to win who didn't have plastic surgery. That has nothing to do with dancing, but it's nice to see an all natural woman win. I hope Amber never succumbs to the vanity-driven pressures of Hollywood; she is beautiful just as she is, and more women need to realize this about themselves before it's too late.

As an average viewer, I would just throw out this thought about Bill & Emma. Emma has received a lot of praise for her work with Bill and rightfully so. But, Bill E. is the kind of genuine, warm person that was perfectly suited for an emotional girl like Emma. Bill strikes me as the type of kind, warm person that would've brought out the very best in any of the pro dancers. The audience was drawn to him, and the support grew and grew as the season progressed. Similarly, Emma I think was also drawn to him and actually inspired by him. If a viewer followed all of the various interviews that they gave during the season, it was easy to tell she loved him, was protective of him and that he brought out something in her as a human being.
I've no doubt that Emma would've sought to splash big in her 1st season as a pro regardless of who she would've been partnered with, but Bill E. provided her the perfect partner to bring out her emotion, her sense of loyalty and devotion to a partner, etc. Bill had a big heart that clearly pulled everybody along for the ride, and I think Emma jumped onboard and had the ride of her life. I've tried to imagine them having been paired with different partners in S17, but I just can't....they were possibly the ultimate couple. It's almost irrelevant that they didn't win the trophy. Their chemistry was very rare and would be hard to duplicate.
Amber won fair and square and earned it. It don't matter who the pro she had. Whether it's Derek,Mark or Val etc....She still would've gotten far fact. Her talent,personalty,and fasbase. All key players and huge factors in her winning the mirror ball trophy. With two injured knees I would say it was harder for her. Compared to a un-injured competitor. Btw,that was one routine where she sat down jazz using a chair and table. And it wasn't that long they still got up and danced. The hand choreography was on point and they were in-sych great number. It was never about Derek. Always about Amber. And that's what alot of people don't understand......

The pro's are there to coach the celeb. Yes,they choreograph everything. Still a celeb has to be able to sell the performance. To the viewers/audience. And that's what Amber did. The reason why she won. Her stage presence,charisma,personality.
Yes, all of those things helped her win. The charisma, personality, everything you mentioned. But to say it has absolutely nothing to do with the pros is a little much. There are many different factors that play into a win on Dancing With The Stars,
i think it took the whole season to realize that corbin's dance background actually hurt him, maybe even more than it helped. He really had very little room for improvement so people eventually got numb to his performances. There were more opportunities for him to fail than for him to succeed.

I think the judges have been uncharacteristically harsh on Corbin on the finale night. I think if you *really* wanted to find fault with his dancing you definitely could, and that is what they went for.
I'm no dancer, but it seemed to me that he improved the frame in his quickstep, which was his problem throughout the season. Yet they ended his critique by saying "i didn't see any improvement, but at least you did not do worse", which was not really necessary after a season of great dancing. Also, in the fusion dance, it seems that nobody really saw a mistake in it, yet he was called on missed steps. Corbin admitted to it, although Karina said in an interview that he played it really well. So, my inference from this is that the judges must have known what the steps should have been based on earlier takes, and decided to call on the omission based on that. Anyways, I enjoyed Corbin and Karina the entire season, and wished the judges would have given them a break and let it all in the hands of the viewers. I don't think the outcome would have been different.
***** I so agree and was frustrated with the judges for nitpicking Corbin to death. Karina choreographed wonderful routines for him with such high degree of difficulty and felt they never game him any credit for being able to deliver. They might have mentioned it, but the scores didn't reflect it. Amber had her own huge fan base and then add Derek's huge fan base and there was no way that anyone, but Amber would win. I felt many fans labeled Corbin a ringer and for that reason alone wouldn't vote for him. It didn't matter that he never took ballroom before. I love dancing period and for me I want the best dancer to win. Unfortunately, during the history of this show we have been shown that the best dancer doesn't always win.
@Danna K thank you for saying what you did. I was going to post something very much like what you said, and then saw your post. Corbin and Karina's dances were the ones I looked forward to each and every week. I could have watched them dance forever. When Carrie Ann said what she did to Corbin I thought it was totally unnecessary and so rude. Corbin was always so gracious to the judges and I believe he was to much of a gentleman to say anything. You are right it wouldn't have changed the outcome.

I was very impressed with Bill's freestyle routine. It truly suited him as well as Jack's. Amber's freestyle was amazing and for her to be able to keep up with all those athletic male pro's was phenomenal. I enjoyed Corbin's freestyle but I think they infused too much Michael Jackson music video into the routine that I felt like I was watching someone imitate Michael. I wanted to see more of Corbin (in the routine) and not a recreated video. I also agree with Kristyn the wow factor was spoiled by the package. However, he can dance his ass off and should be proud of his accomplishments and journey. BTW, Kristyn you should be on tv, you are a fantastic host and I am not saying that because I also would like an Afterbuzz mug.

Jake DuPree is HOT!! I mean seriously if he did all the shows in a sleeveless shirt I would be a happy, happy girl. As always I love the commentary and insights of all of you, but I do have a quibble. It seems to me that when talking about Amber/Derek and their finale dances, all the comments have been about Derek. Yes he deserves all the accolades and granted Amber probably would not have won if Derek was not her partner, but it was a partnership. It seems that your commentary only mentioned Amber as an after thought. Given what she battled each week to get to the finale and then win, her contribution, determination and work should not be minimized, nor glossed over.

I must say that all over the internet they are all talking about how wonderful Amber was, and hardly mention Derek. It was nice to see Derek actually getting some props for his choreography this season.
Anyone here on Afterbuzz know who the new dark-haired guy that was in a lot of bumpers was on the finale? A few of us were curious, and people keep "liking" our question but have no answer. Hahhhha..figured you all might have a clue.

Amber and Derek won! Jake was right all along! And I think that it was well deserved. That freestyle was genius.
So was Jack and Cheryl's. I seriously thought that they would ended in 2nd place.
I felt the same about Corbin and Karina's freestyle. I love MJ but it was like I already saw that routine. It lacked originality.
Bill looked so happy to not have to dance anymore. I hope that Emma will still be a pro next season, she became one of my favorites. Sasha too.

Jake DuPree I'm so happy for Amber and Derek. They both worked so hard and deserved the win. Amber won because of her talent and personality and it was well deserved. I thought she out danced Corbin during the semi and the finals. She's definitely special. As a side note, I'm really impressed by the fact that you respond to both negative an positive criticism. Most people's egos wouldn't be able to take negative feedback. Good for you Jake.

BUT... Let's be realistic here. Amber had the votes throughout the season, even when her dancing was average at best. To justify their win, the show had to downplay Corbin, especially in the last 2 weeks, to highlight Amber. The judges comments and scores, the behind the scenes, the dance order, the chosen dance styles, all played their role in showcasing Amber to the detriment of Corbin.
No one wonders why Corbin, with his amazing hip action, was never assigned a Salsa or Samba? Never got a cheeky latin song?
