I can't be the only one watching this video and getting to the release speed test of the A1 and thinking: "alright, it's a *carpet bomber* with TEN bomb doors. Surely they'll be flying out at like two bombs a second. Maybe even twenty to thirty bombs in total." To then see the hilariously slow release speed was actually painful. How's this supposed to be a carpet bomber when we had bombers in the last century dropping like ten bombs per second??
Agree with your assessment. Should be much faster in both atmo and space. Bomb releases are turtle paced. Ship guns capacitors are a joke. Cutty feels way more agile. But it is smooth to fly, and still has good utility, such as can carry the smaller ground vehicles and can even fit a fury. I have both the A1 and C1, so now have 2 A1’s in my hangar. Will try it out as a daily driver for a while. This ship might be good at bombing outposts for looting runs…😁
it took me some practice, as the bombing reticle isn't showing up green till the last second, you don't get the circle moving up like the A2, but I managed to get a bomb to direct hit a bunker and took out the turrets, so it can be done.
If the speed wasn’t nerfed and it has agility and 4x s3 guns we’d have the Prowler all over again lol. I honestly didn’t see the value to this since it was in concept, I’d hoped they would make it closer to the relationship between the Eclipse and the Retaliator. The eclipse retains the same weapons as the retaliator but with a fraction of its payload and none of its turrets; eclipse has the advantage of having SOME forward fire potential under pilot control and better atmospheric flight and maneuverability while keeping it out of dogfighter territory. Oh well.
@@BuzzCutPsycho I agree with your suggestions but I’m just basing my comments off of CIG’s usual design philosophy of release a PVP ship that doesn’t quite fit its niche but becomes the new meta dogfighter (prowler, ares ion) OR the release a ship with unclear uses but is horribly underpowered and cannot fight (the Mantis before physicalized cargo).
Ya. Bombs and missiles frustrate me in SC. Like I got Talon Shrike to take done ships with a multi missile Salvo, (that should at least drive them to break off from their current target to evaid) but it's limited to 4 missiles with ridiculous launch and cycle time. It doenst even launch 2 missiles at a time just 1 at a time in a 4 missile cycle. That's the same issue I'm seeing with the A1. Why with individual launch rails would you only be able to drop 1 bomb at a time when you are trying to strike as big an area as possible with the most damage as possible as fast as possible. If you want to attack a formation of tanks with bombs, you should be able to release half your payload toward at least 2 drop points in a pass. Otherwise there isn't a threat from you. You drop 1 bomb, maybe 2 and then enemy forces counter attack you. You should be a ground force threat that requires an immediate response if your going to bring a dedicated bomber to a ground fight.
The Shrike is like a weird revolver. The animation is impressive but the ship itself doesn't preform and that animation gets old fast. Perhaps it is to justify the stealth? Who knows.
Embarrassing... I really hope CIG does something. This is supposed to be a very fast series of ship, how can a flying nugget like the cutlass travel faster?!
Sobering comparison, thank you for this. A pat on the back for the Connie. I really like the Spirit's look but it needs the speed that look kind of makes you expect.
@@BuzzCutPsycho I tried to use mine to fight my bro in his F8 just to get a full feel for how bad exactly it is. Took him 1.5 seconds of burst to knock my shields down and start damaging hull. Then I had him just maneuver on me for several minutes while I tried to engage him, without him shooting. I never landed more than maybe 2-3 shots at a time, and they were far between lol. One dude in an Aurora LN could likely keep it from getting to and bombing a target.
I think both the A1 Spirit and bombing in general need a lot of attention. I think CIG forgot that the A1 is the civilian release of what is otherwise a military ship but it lacks in capability across the board. As you highlighted, it's slow, lacks counter measures, weak defence, bombing mechanics make it ineffective and the bombs themselves are akin to a wet fart. I posted on Spectrum regarding the A1 and also made a post regarding bombing. As it stands I think bombs need a complete overhaul along with shipboard bombing systems. At a minimum I think we need to see CCIP and CCRP modes introduced with appropriate instrumentation/HUD cues for these modes. I also think we need the option to set how many bombs we're dropping and the interval (ie. 3 bombs over 6 seconds). Beyond this I think bombs in general need looking at given how niche they are. The A1 bombs are massive for their warhead, we should have the option to select between its current high drag version (hopefully this works in the future), a fin stabilised low drag version and a rocket assisted version which would allow deployment in low/zero gravity. This tail section would determine available warhead options such as the size of the payload (500kg, 1000kg etc) and available types (HE, Thermobaric etc). The fin stabilised deployment would offer the biggest payload, while the rocket assist would see the greatest reduction in payload due to space allocated to the payload assist. These bomb mechanics would then force pilots to plan for their targets and it would allow bombers to operate in all environments against ground targets; as bombs could be fitted for all environments.
You are spot on and we have bombers with nothing to really bomb thus the gameplay and mechanics around it cannot be refined. There is no feedback. No balance. Nothing. I'm sure in the future it will be but that can be said for everything.
I managed to get a hold of one last night to try out, so I decided to give the bombing a try out. They’re nice and big explosions, but they’re super inaccurate. Even holding still I couldn’t reliably drop a bomb where I wanted to.
That's where biggest part of my issue is honestly, I couldn't fully get my head around it but when I figured I was directly above the target I just sat and released, and watch the bomb fly off target. I like the ship, I've never had a chance to try the A2 so I can't compare but I think I'd rather wait to see the C1 and E1 before I consider buying into them. Thanks for the comparison vid though because that's helped me with the decision to hold off.@@BuzzCutPsycho
Like the scientific comparison and agree with your conclusions. Maybe we need a precision guided bomb class and allow for high-altitude / sub-orbital bombardment? JDAM conversion kits for A1 bombs anyone ?
i hope the flight model change fixes all this atmo problems. big fat bulky square ship being able to keep up with sleek streamlined ships. most of these ships should lose Half their speed overall due to shape in atmo not having lift characteristics. should be using ALOT of engine power just to keep it in the air and the rest moving it forward ect, where as more plane like ship would be able to fly faster cause all the power is being used to move ship forward and aerodynamic lift keeping it in the air
I love the look of the Spirit series, but as we came closer to release, I was given more cause that they would be a case of form before function as you showed here. It's the C1 that I was holding out for, but if it's going to perform like this, then I think I'll have to pass. Maybe I do just need to pony up for the C2.
I think it has its place compared to the A2: being able to drop S5 bombs closer to the action, with a smaller blast radius, and giving ground targets less time to react. Not vaporizing the whole battlefield like the A2. I wish the bomb racks were swappable, to carry S3 bombs ripple dropped to really carpet bomb. And I agree, could be a little faster. Good video
I just wish 5 bombs would drop at once when you load them up, rather than spaced out. If you selected 2 and they dropped from the bomb bay on opposite sides, you'd have a much better chance of hitting your target.
I like the A1 but I cannot argue with your main points. It needs to be faster but its biggest issue is its bomb release interval. There is literally no point in dropping more than a single bomb if it will take over 2 seconds for the next one to drop unless you are flying really slowly in which case you will be very vulnerable to enemy fire or your own bomb blast. In an ideal world, I would love to see it drop at just the right interval for a double drop to give just overlapping craters at 150 m/s so effectively doubling the blast radius along the line of attack. If the SCM goes up to 300 then using that speed would leave a gap the same size as the blast radius so you would be very unlucky to totally miss all the targets with both bombs. Where I am not sure I agree with you though is the oft-repeated "The A2 has bigger bombs so that *must* always be better." If almost every target in the game will be destroyed by a single A1 bomb then there must be many situations where you would rather have 10 of those instead of 4 that are overkill.
Good post. It isn't just the bigger bombs that make the A2 better. It is the survivability and not too bad maneuverability given the size. As well as the other benefits. The A1 needs a role. A niche.
I've been flying the A1 around for a few days now. I like it better than the Cutty. It seems to accelerate faster and maneuver faster. That might not meet up with actual measurements. Yes, it is a bomber, but "get out of dodge" factor is important, and if you have deal with other ships in its class, I think it flies well. We'll see the differences when the new flight physics model comes online. The A1 has a lot more wing surface for atmospheric maneuvering.
I agree on the A1 needing to drop the bombs faster as well as slightly faster atmo speeds, but I think the Herc in general should have a nerf in atmo considering it's size.
It would be great from a gameplay perspective if different bombers had different routes they flew to drop different types of bombs in the SC universe. Maybe stealth bombs fly at certain angles and so they needed to be dropped certain ways. Maybe, carpet bombing big areas needed to be dropped from certain distances to that required lining up with a lock on like aerial combat. Maybe, smart bombs had to be guided by the pilot. Maybe, cluster bombing, had to fly the bomb to the best location for the smaller bombs to hit targets that did the most damage and you had to pick those areas for which they would explode and do the most damage. Endless gameplay possibilities.
The A1 needs a side door behind the cabin. It needs to be faster, which might happen when the flight physics change. I'd like to see the fuselage be a little wider as well. The bombs would be great if A) they had a rocket assist to make them move faster, and B) would drop at the same time if you selected more, not 5 seconds after the last one.
Do you think a similar sized RSI ship going straight to flyable at citcon or iae might have caused its underwhelming state? CIG not wanting to release a "better" ship at the same time as one from Crobberts own brand.
I could not agree more with your assessments here. I could have seen A2 owners selling up for the A1 if it was significantly faster and had better bomb deployment speed. I have an A2 and its certainly a waste as I rarely multicrew [ forever alone :'( ] nor do I have need for the vehicle space so I would have happily sold it to get the A1 and another ship or two. That being said, I'm concerned that CIGs response fix it will likely be to nerf the A2's bomb deployment speed but only time will tell I suppose!

Shield needs a shield buff also. As of now it splits is 4 ways unto a bubble so a couple of shots and the shield runs dry.. they are treating it like a A2 when it is supposed to be faster for the size and able to drop those bombs and run. Not worried about the guns like people are, I didn't ask for a fighter I paid for a bomber. I feel that with people crying about things being to buffed at release they have opted to releasing ships useless and then buffing after release, making the ships useless from start. I'll keep mine for a bit but if nothing happens I'd rather just keep flying my MSR
I would love to see the shields buffed too but I'm afraid that with their fascination over everything being physically in the game we won't actually get that. They would have to make room for another S2 sadly.
I melted a Sabre for it, but haven’t had the time to fly the A1 yet. So far I like the ship’s appearance, but on paper it’s kinda meh. It might be good for ROC mining, but for the money the Cutlass (Black, Red and even Blue) are a far better deal. If not bombing or ROC mining, the 400i is only 50 bucks more and a far, far better ship. We’ll see how it fares, but I’m looking forward to the other 1-series variants. As for the countermeasures, I can’t find anything about those flares being ‘capital ship class’. Do you have a source for that you could provide? That would be sweet bc I have always wondered why some ships have less flares. Thanks! o7
The source is in the video itself. Watch the animation. Compare that animation to the Gladius. Also we, The Enclave datamine and meticulously analyze each patch. Glad you liked the video though. The C1 may be better for ROC mining. :) we shall see
@@BuzzCutPsycho Ah, I see. Thanks! Any suggestions about how these flares stack up against regular flares? I usually queue 3-4 regular flares. If capacity (25 vs 48) serves as an indication, that means I should queue 2 of the ‘class 2’ flares? o7
Use them one at a time. They are about 2x more effective than a single flare. Flares work by creating "emission" that the game reads to help the missiles track. Keep in mind this is all server authoritative and if the server you are on isn't running well it won't update or read the flare. At which point it doesn't matter if you deploy 1 or 100. Suggestion? 1 at a time.
this video just keeps reminding me how competitive the connies are. Indeed the A1 should be able to pierce the atmo and drop all the bombs, otherwise why bother and drop a NUKE instead. Made me feel odd for the C1 as if you remove some of the guns and the bombs, sure some cargo but then what? The MSR is sitting right there with arguably better mobility and cargo if the A1 got the atmo buff it is begging for, and maybe it to be passed to the C1, that'd make the mini line up a pretty nifty pick for slightly bigger ship for hot spot zones, like brio's or jumptown or just hostile area for med rescue.
im sure balance and practicality are the last things on CIG devs minds atm. too much brain power going to server meshing and master modes. and that bomb drop speed for the A1 was just very hard to watch
IMO, the only other thing than faster bomb deployment that the A1 needs is a second S2 shield or a single S3 shield.....Its WAY too paper for its role and a low-flying bomber. No amount of speed will compensate for the lack of protection that thing has.
I agree, a single S3 shield would be great. With the tiny capacitors for the guns, it hardly uses any power from its S2 powerplant. Not sure if it is supposed to be "armored" once that's thing or not. The M2, C2, and A2 are currently exactly the same when it comes to hull HP
bought it for the looks and the idea of a fast bomber, hoping i could fly in fast bomb the turrets off criminal bunkers. tried it, didnt get gud results coz its my first time bombing and all the mission locations were night time cant see no shit lol after trying it i agree just like you said, it needs some tuning in the speed and bomb bay time ill try a few more bombing runs maybe on wreck site missions a bit under expectation still a fun and nice looking ship
Bombs should definitely come out faster, that being said, smaller bombs can be dropped from lower altitudes which is worth something 🤷🏼♂️ Dear God why is the Connie so fast 😂
Also, it's how you use it, hate to say it but some idiots think dropping bombs mean they tilt their ship at the target, it's like they've never seen bombing runs in war footage or movies, you have to take into account your inertia, gravity and height to drop the bomb on target.
Thank you for the comparison. It was informative. I do have an A1 and it’s a lot of fun to fly. It does need to be a little faster.
The ship is no doubt fun and I love being in it. This is why I am hoping it gets some love soon.
@@BuzzCutPsycho same
I melted a Sabre for it, but haven’t had the time to fly the A1 yet.
The MSR is sitting right there with arguably better mobility and cargo
if the A1 got the atmo buff it is begging for, and maybe it to be passed to the C1, that'd make the mini line up a pretty nifty pick for slightly bigger ship for hot spot zones, like brio's or jumptown or just hostile area for med rescue.
The A1 is in a very bad spot.
Nice video dude, probably!
Edit: Turns out, indeed yes! It is a good video!
Hey, thanks! I tried. :)
im sure balance and practicality are the last things on CIG devs minds atm. too much brain power going to server meshing and master modes. and that bomb drop speed for the A1 was just very hard to watch
Its about selling ships not releasing ones that make sense
Agreed ! 👌🏻
I'm glad my favorite AC super star approves. ;)
@@BuzzCutPsycho 😘💦
I couldn't agree more with your conclusion. Aside from the sleek looks, the A1 is the most underwhelming ship I've purchased from CIG. :(
I never use mine
it'll get some love from me, alright. i have some use for it.
Are EM missiles still meta? I feel like they aren't as accurate anymore? Should I switch them out?
Still meta. Missiles just work based on server health. Hit or miss literally and figuratively.
Frank Frazetta was great.
@@BuzzCutPsycho Thanks!
IMO, the only other thing than faster bomb deployment that the A1 needs is a second S2 shield or a single S3 shield.....Its WAY too paper for its role and a low-flying bomber. No amount of speed will compensate for the lack of protection that thing has.
I agree. Sadly with everything being physically modeled it is hard for them to add shields.
I agree, a single S3 shield would be great. With the tiny capacitors for the guns, it hardly uses any power from its S2 powerplant. Not sure if it is supposed to be "armored" once that's thing or not. The M2, C2, and A2 are currently exactly the same when it comes to hull HP
frankly my first thought after getting an a1 was, man I wish I had enough money to just buy an a2
Save up
It's a bit too big for my taste especially for the small interior it has, it just makes me think that it could be *way* smaller had they optimized it
For the size it could also he more durable
I don’t think CIG can make a responsive enough bomb hud and reticule to keep up with the speed the A1 should operate at.
Likely now. Time to make a war thunder like bomb reticule. ;)
@@BuzzCutPsycho see ya in 4 years…
I have a A1 but it definitely needs a buff then it has potential to be effective
I'm hoping it gets a buff and that is a big reason why I made this video.
Another great review
Glad you enjoyed it
bought it for the looks and the idea of a fast bomber, hoping i could fly in fast bomb the turrets off criminal bunkers. tried it, didnt get gud results coz its my first time bombing and all the mission locations were night time cant see no shit lol
after trying it i agree just like you said, it needs some tuning in the speed and bomb bay time
ill try a few more bombing runs maybe on wreck site missions a bit under expectation still a fun and nice looking ship
It's great looking and I love the idea. It just needs some changes to make it worth a darn.
If i bomb in space it's like laying mines then right ?
If they let you drop in zero g yes. :)
That is all the game needs is more 0 skill 0 effort WWI stlye bombers....
Bombs are very easy to shoot down.
Bombs should definitely come out faster, that being said, smaller bombs can be dropped from lower altitudes which is worth something 🤷🏼♂️
Dear God why is the Connie so fast 😂
Rsi bias ;)
@@BuzzCutPsycho I agree! That Zues MK2 is a monster!
Also, it's how you use it, hate to say it but some idiots think dropping bombs mean they tilt their ship at the target, it's like they've never seen bombing runs in war footage or movies, you have to take into account your inertia, gravity and height to drop the bomb on target. Star Citizen isn't one click kill, alot of the things require learning and are intentionally higher skilled
Sure. But you're so slow anything can run you down even a Connie. That's what will kill it.
Yamete ! 🙈
Based.
What a disappointment. Not to mention it replaced the C1 loaner from the Cutty which is a jack of all trades to this, which is currently a jack of all shits.
LoL

new starships all the time ... still close to no progress to the game .... this company is freakin garbage ... they just milking the F out of their fanbase .. blows my mind that so many people falling for this crap ...
