There's also room to talk about the cargo changes. 1/8 SCU used to be standard because it was hand carryable, but they changed it to 1 SCU tr reduce the number of entities to manage in persistance, and they're looking to reduce the number further by standardizing even larger containers, particularly the 2x2x4 "16 SCU" and 2x2x8 "32 SCU" containers. The Spirit looks like it can carry 2x 16 SCU containers comfortably, and possibly load a third across the center walkway, using the cockpit tractor controls.
On the Tractor Beam on the Cutlass: Considering the recent addition of a rear turret to the Cutlass "Steal", I'd expect the formerly frontal tractor beams to get moved to that same, single, rear position on the Black.
The cutlass black already have the tractor beam but have no use, you can see at the back just up the ramp, in a compartment, you can see it playing with the cam, It has been there for many years in concept
i must admit i agreed with everything you said. i decided on c1 as my daily driver instead of the black basicaly because of the speed but i will always buy a black ingame as i also like the uses it has . really enjoyed your take on both :)
On taking a year to get to the bridge of the Star Runner: That's why you leave a "Chewie" with the ship doing maintenance that can use a turret when it hits the fan.
The problem I have with the crusader ships is that they carry along at least 50% of useless geometry. Those wide wings on the spirit do not only provide a large hitbox, it also makes the ship much more unwieldy than the actual usable body justifies.
Hopefully though that'll mean it flies like a dream in Atmo and will require less fuel to descend. Plus, there could be more fuel in them. Hopefully they balance it in a way that makes it worth the extra cross section
I think that is what makes them good tho. I like that they are not just flying boxes, i personally hate how the cutlass looks as a thin box. Even realistically speaking most ships have way too little space for fuel, engines, etc.
The problem with the Cutlass is its like its made of paper. The hull strength is weak and the instant the shooting starts theres a high chance one of those thrusters will explode and youll lose all maneuverability. Cutlass is mediocre at best right now.
John Crew said the larger jump point sizes have changed slightly at the time they where building the MSR.. At that time is said that the new largest ship to fit the small jump point is the MSR (based on length is the internal metric).. Now that it has been discoverd that the C1 is actually a touch larger than it was advertised though 🤷♂️ .. It is still smaller than the MSR by 10M in length though, 46 vs 56.. Still the same jump point.. For the amount of cargo per trip through a small jump point, it looks like the MSR is still the winner 🤷♂️ Oh also to note.. The 400i is 56 meters long the same as the MSR and there for should also fit the smallest jump point.. Also I imagine that the 400i will be largest if not the only properly equipped "explorer" ship to fit through the small jump points.. I don't think it's worth the smaller specialised cargo profile of the C1 vs The MSR given the same jump point size and both being speed heavy 🤷♂️.. Also it has been stated that the second entrance to the MSR was an over sight and will be added at a later date.. Any how.. No reason to "upgrade" the Cutlass to a C1 if you already own an MSR.. 🤷♂️ And if you own a 400i as well.. No point in having C1.. Although.. Gonna say this to your question, and I mean no offense to the cutlass, its been my go to because of its versatility, but this ship excels in one area and that makes all the difference. It's not the ass ugly Cutlass. Add that its faster and more maneuverable, and you sold me. It can't do the things the cutlass can, but I never use the cutlass for those things anyway. If it can hold my ROC, and can get around faster than the Black, then its my go to.
Cuttie tractor will probably be where the steel has the rear remote turret. allthough, back in the day, i seem to recall seeing it in the ceiling inside, near the hatch
I plan to store my C1 at Port T and Cutlass at Baijini Point for easy access. It's funny, the Titan was noticeably smaller at first. If you like missiles, a Cutlass can have 40 size ones (fire three, one or more will hit). ;-) I'm waiting for an AI Blade for turrets (defensive fire).
I wouldn't count on the stated size(s) of the Spirit holding true. I'd bet it gains about 10 meters in width, or the hull of the ship will widen, but the wings will be shortened.
The Cutty black , has been 1 of my go to ships since it was the first ship i CCU'd too off the Avenger my brother bought me when Star Citizen first left kickstarter. The draw too it was its multi role capability. Also that it reminded me of combat helo's in the games I play. And i've always hoped that the cutty flight model at least in atmosphere would be more towards a Helo, with its rotational engines, its fire power. Its cargo space / transport capabilities. And looking at the ships side by side, that becomes even moreso. Cutty being a manuverable craft, and built to be able to defend itself because its not a jet fighter. Its not super fast in a straight line, but it can get places others cant. And the Spirit bbeing the Jet fighter/transport. Super fast in a straight line. And in this sense, the ships arent really comparable. Like comparing a Apache attack helicopter to a F18.
The cutty is not a helicopter, and if you are going to use the VTOL as a reason for being a helicopter like then the better compairison would be the Harrier vs the F18.
I never called it a helicopter, I was using it as a comparison and helo came to mind. If you wanna call it a Harrier, than call it a harrier. My point still stands as to what i hope the differences in flight characteristics affecting ships comparisonis.
Have they unnerfed the cutty? I got rid of mine about 2 years ago because it became slow as molasses. The firepower was meh and it just felt clunky to fly. I was super disapponted because I loved the look and idea so much. Sadly, the freelancer seemed to perform much better in almost every area except maneuverability. yuck. Just wondering if they balanced it out yet as I haven't played for about 18 months now.
The whole “1” series has a few design choices that I just can’t get behind. 1: No second exit 2: massive wasted space with the flat, wide wings and narrow internal space 3: Exit as far from cockpit as absolutely possible 4: no docking collar Seems an inferior but faster freelancer base for the cargo version (no comparison to cutlass for me). The bomber is an A2 lite, which could be cool and passenger transport could also be ok if you want to be a space taxi. None are versatile though. Not really. Freelancer has better crew facilities, second exit, more cargo and more firepower. You may not want to compare them, but that’s really where the comparison is. Back to Cutty, the rear engines may be a target but damn they’re useful if you’re good at toggling the modes. Also I am willing to bet they will bloat the size of that 1 series.
You mentioned smuggling, that's why i already have 3 smugglers, the MSR, 400i, Taurus and will get the C1 too. I believe Smuggling will be so much fun, plus these ships are multi purpose and can be daily drivers. If one is in the shop for repairs or waiting on an Ins. claim to be delivered, there's another one to use. In future game play the wait times (depending on ship & manufacturer) could be days to weeks. Another point is, (pardon the pun) small jump points, at one time the largest ship that could pass thru a small jump point was a Freelancer, so a C1 should definitely fit.

The Valk has a restricted cargo grid. Originally it had no grid. If it was able to use the full available space as cargo, the numbers would be drastically different.
Do you think this ship will be available in May for the event then? I still really wanna buy a C1 for a lot of reasons but am sad it's not in the store yet.
That's a good question... It's ussually military ships that are sale, and since this thing is decidedly non-combat (except the bomber variant) and its still in concept, idk. But who knows
I love how Cutlass fan boys are trashing the C-1. BTW your dimensions are wrong, but I may be posting this after they have updated it. The C-1 will be just like Cutlass and Freelancer just in the middle hence it being priced in-between the two. The main differences will be speed, fire power, agility, fuel, etc etc. The way I believe this will end up is as follows: Cutlass will be the scraper good for taking into fire fights and getting the goods and getting out. Freelancer will be the long range hauler with better shields and more fuel. C-1 will be the fastest out of the bunch performing best in atmosphere flight compared to it's competitors.
The tractor beam on the Cutlass is above the rear door in that hood and it's a size 2. Unless they took them away someplace as I haven't heard anything about them in a while, there are two other tractor beams on the front of the front wing tips. That said, with the size update, the C1 is a better smuggler like you said and the Cutlass has drop-ship capability. They do approach obstacles differently but outside of one smuggling and the other dropping off marines, I don't think there is anything that one couldn't do over the other. That's my take.
I upgraded my Cutty for the C1, because I also saw it more as a Millennium Falcon or Serenity type smuggling rig. I wonder if we're going to be able to use stealth plating like the Hornet variant...
The Anvil Crusible can repair the hull of any craft/vehicle with any material. so yes every ship in game will be able to be stripped and replated with whatever material they want. it's just about resourses, manpower and cost.
The C1 will get bigger. Just like the MSR, once they actually build it out with metrics. It will grow slightly, it will definitely get fatter in the middle, and the wings may get stubbier to try to keep it at the cutlass/ freelancer size. Just look at the cockpit, is it made for Gnomes? No. This thing will grow. This will be the fast solo smuggler ship the MSR wished it was. EDIT: I wish people would remember the MSR was made with the Millennium Falcon in mind. That's why it only has the ramp for access along with every other design feature of the M.F. But now that the MSR has set the design standard for Crusader, You may not get another access point.
The C1 is already announced ot be bigger. The numbers used for this 3d model are simply off. All sites are updated to have the c1 at 46m length and a beam of 43.5m the cutty has a length of 37 and beam of 26. That this model doesn't make sense is clear when you look at the blueprints and see that the cockpit has both seats next to each other. This spirit model is just too small and off in its dimensions. Alone that the c1 has similar scu size should make it obvious that it is at least as large as the cutty. My guess with this model is: someone wanted to make the Spirit look like something it is not: a small fighter.
The MSR is still the largest amount of cargo to fit through the small jump point size though, aside from the Hull series.. The MSR alternate entrance was an over sight, it was stated that it will get a faster access lift during a future internal shuffle though.. 👌 Throwing the lift in that wasted space in the scanning room would be ideal.. 🤔
@@Austintatious_One I agree the MSR needs a faster access point to the bridge, but I don't think it was an oversight. They back-peddled as soon as people got the there hands on it and realized that it doesn't work in practice. But it was a design feature to mimic the Millennium Falcon.
I cant wait for the c1 mostly because its the exact type of ship i want. Its a cutlass without the looks of the cutlass. Which doesnt sound great but imo its great okay😂
The numebrs for the Spirit just won't fit. It is either 10m longer than the Cutty, with 46.3m length, 43.5 beam and 10.00m height (official and updated numbers for the Spirit). All sites are updated to these numbers. So the Spirit is, as of now, sizeable larger than the Cutty, while here at 16:05 it for sure has more width, yet looks over all smaller and is definitely shorter. It looks like someone wanted to make it look like a fighter. The Spirit isn't a fighter and won't handle well as fighter. And that the numbers of these 3d models are off is apparent when you look at the cockpit of the Spirit. It's too small for what it is in there in the blueprint.
Be careful with things people almost assume nowadays like taking along vehicles or extra crew (dropships). These ships may be unable to clamp down a vehicle in the future? And the life support system may only tolerate its official max number of crew.
I mean the c1 is a lot larger however the cutlass is a lot more intimidating. So when you see a c1 you kinda look at it in aww However if you see a cutty you kinda just... run
Was thinking about a C1 to carry some vehicles around and be sneaky , but then I found out the C1 is damn near the size of an MSR. So I find zero need for the ship. A small ship that will carry a dragonfly that's what I want.
@@amd1031 Ya I still think its awesome, but I need that Q&A to be comprehensive before I buy. I want to see more of the vision from CIG if ya know what I mean.
Never enough missiles! And I’m kinda in the same boat as you, is the c1 really a better option than the cutty? And I just don’t think so. Also the tractor beam on the cutty is on the back, the little bump above the ramp
Really!? *takes another look* That would definitely be a good place for it, and would put the Cutty's beam placement inline with how the C1's is configured
@@_Boldheart_ In the beginning the Cutty would work in tandem with the Caterpillar quickly shuttling over cargo containers. The small rear tractor were for solo missions, but when working with the Cat. use the front tractors for speed loading the bigger ship. At least that was the original plan when the Cutlasses were mounted with claw clamps to the top rails of the Cat. But who knows what CIG has in mind now, it's been yrs. in the making.
Looking at these specs i cannsay the following. I think your underestimating crusaders thrusters. The maneuverability of their ships is crusaders pride. Will they be able to vtool and take off at maxv like the cutlass, hell no. That is one of the cutlass selling points. But its likely that the gimbaled thrusters will be larger and more efficiant than the cutlass. ( if you play KSP at all you will know the vaue of a gimbaled thruster vs a fixed. ) But once master modes are in its likely the spirit will not hover or take off as well as the Cutlass. I have some trust in cursaders engines... ( Please dont let me down crusader. Btw the hercs are far better at maneuvering than a ship of their sizd shoukd be. ) Next the pilot has comparable firepower to the cutlass pilot. We will just have to see how that plays out in battle. I dont really cound the turret. Mainly because, well like many sc ships its in the wrong spot. So it is just a little extra firepower, and a hiding spot for a stowaway. Armor, the cutlass just has no place for it. And drake ships have been compared to flying coffins because of this. So its not likely they will get a lot of it. The spirit on the other hand... I dont know about you, but those cutlass side doors have been more of a liability than a benefit for me. They have been the source of many stolen ships at JT. They are just too easy to access. Which eill be better. Well... only time will tell. But at least for now they look like there may be some good competition.
I would like to see a Spirit C1 vs 400i (in my opinion the 400i is better than the Spirit C1) {and i have both} 400i has twice as much fuel, compaired to the Spirit C1
Crusader ships seem to lack in the arms department. Even the ares is its own crutch since all the man babies cried so bad they nerfed it. And your notion about the msr was the prob i have. I have a msr and a cutty and use the cutty more lol
Yeah, he said it was his favorite ship, but at 23:00 he says it comes with 32 s3 missiles and 16 s2 missiles. LOL That is more than a MIS and on par with an Andromeda.
They did correct and update the Spirit dimensions; roughly 46 long, 43 wide, and 10 high.
Yeah at 46 long and 43 wide it would make a lot more sense than what he showed here

The C-1 will be just like Cutlass and Freelancer just in the middle hence it being priced in-between the two. The main differences will be speed, fire power, agility, fuel, etc etc.
The way I believe this will end up is as follows:
Cutlass will be the scraper good for taking into fire fights and getting the goods and getting out.
Freelancer will be the long range hauler with better shields and more fuel.
C-1 will be the fastest out of the bunch performing best in atmosphere flight compared to it's competitors.
Yep! this is similar to what I mentioned in the video. Discussion with updates dimensions coming after Q&A.
It's Crusader Marketing. They're marketing toward the lawful crowd.
Good video, although they updated it and it grew in size! Now 46.5m!!! I bet it will get even bigger!
Thanks! I'll be uploading a video later today discussing the size increase and the Q&A
The C1 will get bigger.
The Spirit's dimensions have been updated by CIG, 46x43x10.
The MSR is still the largest amount of cargo to fit through the small jump point size though, aside from the Hull series..
The MSR alternate entrance was an over sight, it was stated that it will get a faster access lift during a future internal shuffle though.. 👌
Throwing the lift in that wasted space in the scanning room would be ideal..
If the visual design is anything to go by, speed will be the Spirit's major distinguishing factor.
C1 > Cutlass because John Crew doesn’t think much of Drake. I’m so worried my Corsair will be made of paper.
C1 will make a better solo ship, especially if it is faster.
Multiplayer, not having a manned offensive turret is going to suck.
I mean the c1 is a lot larger however the cutlass is a lot more intimidating.
So when you see a c1 you kinda look at it in aww
However if you see a cutty you kinda just... run
Was thinking about a C1 to carry some vehicles around and be sneaky , but then I found out the C1 is damn near the size of an MSR. So I find zero need for the ship. A small ship that will carry a dragonfly that's what I want.
Hi all, I found this key into the game that should give me a bonuspack (STAR-SKFC-NSXS) but where the heck do I use it?
if they shortened the neck of the spirit it would look like a longsword from halo.
Hey do you know that they updated the specs now it’s 48 length. Just check it out now
I’ll go check that out. That may change a few things
The size has changed so much that I might not buy this ship. Now its sized between the MSR and Cutlass. I will have to wait for the Q&A
@@CFitzPlay wow I hope you still get it bro it’s still in that goldilocks of ship sizes.
@@amd1031 Ya I still think its awesome, but I need that Q&A to be comprehensive before I buy. I want to see more of the vision from CIG if ya know what I mean.
In truth the Command module of the Cat will be able to be attached and the chin seat has a tractor beam.
My money is on the Cutlass Black, don't own either ship though.
There's a few pictures of other ships fighting the cutlass like the hawk
It doesn't match other ships in utility. But if it was a speed demon to make up for its general simplicity, I'd be very excited.
Did anything change in the last year from this video? 😅
@@_Boldheart_ I ran into randomly last year some time, I will admit I haven’t checked since they made the pass on it to add buttons for the doors
There is also 2 in the front at the ends of the wings that look like landing gear, but don't quite touch the ground.
@@jedi_drifter2988 see I wanted to mention that but it’s again too good to be true
But who knows what CIG has in mind now, it's been yrs. in the making.
do we know when the spirit is coming?
Btw the hercs are far better at maneuvering than a ship of their sizd shoukd be. )
Next the pilot has comparable firepower to the cutlass pilot.
But at least for now they look like there may be some good competition.
bro got a cutlass poster in the background while trying to make an unbiased comparison video hahah I love it. Good video fr bru
I would like to see a Spirit C1 vs 400i (in my opinion the 400i is better than the Spirit C1) {and i have both}
400i has twice as much fuel, compaired to the Spirit C1
To be fair it's also double the price
Where can I get the model?
starship42.com is the ship size comparison tool I used
C1 spirit if you want faster and more agile.. cutty is more sensible. In my humble opinion.
I bought a Cutlass after watching this
Ha! Didn’t intend to be a Cutlass evangelist but keep her out of trouble and she will serve you well!
@@_Boldheart_ The same is true of the C1, funnily enough.
Ahhh.... the Cutlass. If only they made it pretty. LOL.
Great 💯💯💯
Just wanted to say that there is a huge Size inaccuraccy
This is known! Going to update with another video discussing this after they release the Q&A
@@_Boldheart_ thx, keep up the good work!
calm down negative Nancy. Just a fan boy.
Huh?
28:30 how many situations will you be in where a cargo ship will be fighting a pirate cargo ship wanting to steal your $h!t? Never gonna happen🤣
When it's been interdicted by a kraken full of cutlass? 🤷♂️
Crusader ships seem to lack in the arms department. Even the ares is its own crutch since all the man babies cried so bad they nerfed it.
And your notion about the msr was the prob i have. I have a msr and a cutty and use the cutty more lol
You sure the Cutless-Black comes with s4 missiles my guy??? 🤔
S4 missile *racks
You can fit 6 Size 4 missiled or up to 48 Size 1
@@chriss9898 yeah I got the math wrong when I was looking at the individual missiles the cutlass could carry xD
Yeah, he said it was his favorite ship, but at 23:00 he says it comes with 32 s3 missiles and 16 s2 missiles. LOL That is more than a MIS and on par with an Andromeda.
C1 needs a turret
First time watching you, nice video though not in full agreement with your assessments. Hope you grow.
c1 will b fast as F boi
Sil-hoo-ette lol
С1 больше Катласа
