  • In this video I change the laser in an Original Fat (Phat) PlayStation 2. This console had stopped playing discs with the blue back and was really struggling to play silver backed discs.

    Great video. For the T5 screw on the laser, I tighten them until they bottom out, then back off a quarter turn.
    I then spin the worm shaft with my finger to be sure it's not binding.

    Awesome. I am a little less intimidated by opening up my launch ps2. I am likely going to swap the laser and look at old one to see if can be cleaned. Will be doing a fan mod too. Thanks for this video.

      Thanks for the comment. I would definitely try give the laser a clean. If you search for videos on how to properly clean the laser they will show not just the lens you can see but the mirror which is below it. You'd be surprised how many I see where dirt is all that's wrong with them.

    This is a launch 30001 model PS2, mind the power supply on the top, later models have it underneath and a heat sink is on the top and the i link port is next to the bottom USB port.

      @green97probe 2 місяці тому

      There's actually a SCPH-30001R revision as well with the power supply underneath and a heat sink on top.
      It had me fooled because it looked like a 35001 at first glance.

    Quick question for you boss, I followed and did everything in this video as well as a few others and my new laser still won’t read dvd based discs. Haven’t messed with anything such as the height or the black screw. I may have gotten a bad laser out of the bunch. There a specific website to order these lasers from? I got mine from totalconsole off Amazon. And it has a lot of good reviews but they all seem to be the same. Then a few of the bad reviews states the positive comments have to be trolls. They have all encountered the same broken problem. Will still read cd’s. But no dvds. Still.

    • @EasyConsoleFixes
      @EasyConsoleFixes  Рік тому

      Have you definitely got the right laser for the model console. The only real way to know if the laser is good is to check it in a known good console.
      I have seen this issued caused by damaged ribbon cable, I thought it was the laser at first as well.

    Question!
    I just got my KHS-400C in the mail. Below it says 10639KJI. To the right is D539 and C648 below. I don’t see the blobs below, seems to be some sort of chip or capacitor. Will it still work?

    • @EasyConsoleFixes
      @EasyConsoleFixes  Рік тому

      The 400c will have the capacitor and one solder blob just beside it. Has the blob already been removed just leaving an empty pad with two lines through it.

    Couldnt you test it before putting it all back together? You just take out the middle plastic piece to keep the disc in place

    • @EasyConsoleFixes
      @EasyConsoleFixes  Рік тому

      On these early 30000 series consoles that white plastic piece doesn't pop out the way it does on the later consoles. You certainly can test it like that if you want on the later consoles.

    Is there a way of getting rid of the solder blobs without a soldering iron? I dont have one and im also not adept at all with how to use one.

    • @EasyConsoleFixes
      @EasyConsoleFixes  Рік тому

      I have heard of people just heating a flat head screwdriver to remove the blob, I haven't tried it myself but once the screwdriver is hot enough I don't see why it wouldn't work.

    I have a question and was wondering ifbyou may have a theory as to what or why a specific peuve is missing from this ps2 fat im attempting to repair, the warranty sticker was still intact so this is why im curious as to why the plastic shield that goes over the laser is missing? The disc door was jammed and im still unable to fix that and havent seen the piece floating around inside, is it possible that either this ps2 came withojt the plastic piece or was it opened and removed?

    • @EasyConsoleFixes
      @EasyConsoleFixes  6 місяців тому

      If you mean the black plastic piece that covers the disc drive, I would say that it has been opened and removed. The little white plastic circle that sits inside that piece holds the disc down and the PS2 would never be able to work without it.
      As for the stuck disc drive door, If you look at the video at 4:11 you will see a white plastic piece at the front of the disc drive, This has a piece that sticks up into a groove on the underside of the disc tray. Most times I see a stuck disc tray it's because this is not sitting correctly. (The white piece moves left to right and should be over towards the right when the tray is open.)

    • @maximusthecannabist5170
      @maximusthecannabist5170 6 місяців тому

      @EasyConsoleFixes thanks for the reply as far as the cover im talking about the one that is on the laser itself it goes around the laser and the laser eye is in the middle that piece is missing and I've tried to adjust the track I checked the gears and they work but it just seems stuck ill make a video tomorrow when the ribbon cable comes in and link you to it if you interested in taking a look.

    • @EasyConsoleFixes
      @EasyConsoleFixes  6 місяців тому +1

      @@maximusthecannabist5170 Ah ok, that makes more sense. I have never seen that piece missing but the laser would work fine without it. The fact that it is missing and the disc drive is stuck would make me believe that the console has been opened before.
      If you make a video let me know and I will take a look. I will be travelling until Monday and wouldn't be able to check it out till then.

    I can't understand 50% of what you're saying. What language are u speaking. One video says the solder ball needs to be REMOVED. I didn't see u remove it, just touch with soldering iron. Also where is good place to buy this from?

    • @EasyConsoleFixes
      @EasyConsoleFixes  8 місяців тому +2

      You've done well to understand 50% if you don't know what language I'm speaking haha.
      Touching with the soldering iron will normally be enough to remove the solder ball, you are just trying to brake the connection between the pads. If you pause the video at 5.42 you will see there is a clear line between the pads both solder balls were sitting on. That's all you need to do, there is no need to remove every bit of solder.

    I bought a HD7 as it was the only one I could really get. Will that work if I happen to find a KHS in my console? I've been told it will but I just want as many confirmations I can get or to be told directly if it will or not
