How to Remove a STUCK DISC in a Faulty PS3 FAT (PHAT)

- Hi, this quick video shows you how you may be able to remove a stuck disc in a PlayStation 3 Phat model. By running the Fan Test it will give the console enough time to eject the disc before turning off if you have something like a flashing red light error.

And as soon as I closed the game and ejected it and it didn’t come out. My heart SANK. The game is my Unk’s Favourite game EVER. And he’s very protective of his discs and stuff. Taught me how to handle discs and comics since I was little. And if I gave it back damaged or told him it’s STUCK in my PS3?! He’d have my head.
I tried pulling it gently out but couldn’t reach it. I tried turning on and off again. But the PS3 acted as if there was no disc inside and I was dying bruh! So I immediately searched up “PS3 disc stuck fix” you came up first. Same PS3 model as mine. I was worried I’d have to take it apart which I hate doing but then you said fan test and I was like HUH?! But I followed your instructions so when the disc popped out on your video it popped out same time as mine. You don’t know how relieved I was. Thank YOU!

the fan technique doesn't work if the internal eject mechanism is broken, your cd is permanently stuck in here unless you take the console and drive apart.
Also the fan test isn't made to "clean" the dust out
It's made to test the fan bearings
It does a pretty good job at cleaning some dust out though.
EvilTurkeySlices it just forces the fan to spin faster...
a good teardown and cleaning can't be replaced by just a faster spinning fan

My brother once stuck 3 discs in my ps3 at once, we thought it was broken. Conventional methods don't work for multiple discs, so best shot is to get a thin knife above the top disc and leverage it out. The other disc(s) inside tend to slide out once the first one is free

I have a newer PS3 which doesn't have the switch on the back. I basically did what you said, but I held the eject and the power buttons on the front, and it did the same thing you did in your video. FYI for anyone like me who has one like mine and didn't know this. 😀 Thanks for the video

I just turnt it in, my disc was stuck, I had all types of thoughts in my mind as what to do to pawn it. But after watching your video just now…I swear to God it works. Hey, great video! I really like your channel and content. In my case, I had to disassemble the optical drive (there is a video on youtube on how to do this safely and then reset the mechanism).
Regarding YLOD, I bought a ps3 phat with the same issue as yours, for 20eur. It was already fixed at some point but YLOD returned. I tried fixing it at a local service center and they were asking almost 100eur for the fix.
I found on youtube that it could be fixed using a hair dryer. Basically, disconnect the power chord, remove the harddrive and harddrive cover and remove the disk from the optical drive. Then, you place the console with the bottom pointing upwards, on a table, so it rests on the curved side, with the exhaust grills pointing towards you. Next step is to take a hairdryer and run it full power and temperature through the grills - keep it as close as possible to the console and slowly move it so that hot air goes through the whole grill. You do this for 15minutes, without break. Do not nudge the console and be careful not to touch it because it gets VERY hot. Once the 15minutes ran out, switch the temperature setting to coldest and run the hairdryer through the grills for 20minutes.
After these 20 minutes, the console should be safe to handle and turn on. Plug everything in and it might just work ... In my case it worked but had to repeat the process every 2-3weeks because YLOD kept coming back. This "fix" has no guarantee and I would advise against selling a console "fixed" like this. Also, my console suffered some slight plastic case warping towards the top...
I decided to replace the thermal paste and pads and also drilled a lot of holes in the bottom of the case, right where the fan is located, so that it is sucking in fresh air.
Currently, months after buying the faulty console, it is still running :D

Regarding the hard drive cover - make sure you remove it and stow it away from the console while you use the hair dryer. I was able to "fix" another phat console, with the same issue as yours, but left the cover on. The heat warped the cover and made it fall off. You can also try removing the optical drive, so that internals are not affected by the heat. Unfortunately, I think that the power supply needs to remain inside, so that the heated motherboard is pressed against it. Hmmmmm, you could use a faulty power supply just as a place holder...
Btw, the console is very modular and easy to swap components - even I could do it :D
Small Note: This method does not work with the 60GB model
yes, my 60GB US launch model YLOD 5 years ago while I was playing Dark Souls 2 and it will not eject! Must get it re-balled one day...
Or rip the PS3 apart.

Mine is happening recently. Stuck but I could hear it got ejected just stuck at the opening. I believe something at the opening is blocking it so after ejecting (disc still stuck inside), I slide in a double sided card and pull it out manually and voila!

I wish I knew about this trick when my friends PS3 died back in 2009, even with those special 6-sided screwdrivers in hand that was needed on the PS3 Fat it was still pretty much impossible to open. Ended up prying it open with a hammer just to rescue a copy of Bioshock trapped inside. Ah, memories. XD

It worked! Well, it didn’t actually eject upon fan testing. I shut it off, and turned it on like you would when you’d use it, then ejected it and it came out

On my PlayStation 3, it is ejecting my discs as normal. When I put a disc in and hit the eject button, it comes out.
