A gw5000u has become my daily driver. The buttons being harder to push is a good thing in my eyes as you don't get any accidental mode changes. Plus the resin used is as good as it gets. I'm glad I picked it up.

I bought a GW5000 when they first were released in 2009, still have that watch. The buttons were very hard to push. However, I recently purchased a GW5000 manufactured in March 2020 and the buttons are exactly the same spring strength as my GW5610 - they have made this correction just recently. GW5000 is a GREAT watch!

Your Square G Battle was why I ultimately wound up with the GW-5000-1JF. It's an absolutely beautiful watch that draws no attention to itself, looks like a Wal-Mart Special, but is built just as well quality-wise as the MT-G lineup (but without being the size of Big Ben). That being said, it is a bit $$ to wear to work (at about $300), but the quality of the body and the strap make up for it and then some.

$38 for 5600, simplest cleanest design. Bright light, tough as nails, legible, people’s batteries last often 10-15 years. Only loses a couple seconds a month. You can regulate them to make them run almost perfectly. If someone steals it or you lose it, it was only $38. The only flaw I can see is the recessed adjust button. Oh well, nothing is perfect. This watch comes close though. New battery is about $2. I wish there were more products like this one.

Japanese Quartz movement is accurate enough where I'm not going to sweat the atomic update every day. But then again, I'm also not sweating the battery swap in 3 years. For the difference in cost, you can buy enough batteries to power the basic g-shock for 30 years. Multiple alarms are a nice feature though. Casio must leave it off intentionally just to get people to upgrade since they have far cheaper casios with multiple alarms and world time.

The dw-5600 in my opinion is the better value . Basic , tough and inexpensive . It's no big deal to have to replace a battery every 5 yrs or so and it's not that tough setting daylight savings time changes . If the 5610 was closer to the price of the dw5600 then I would choose the 5610 . 5610 is over priced in my opinion

of the three, I'd have to go with DW5600E. weakest link in these G-Shocks(or any resin watches) is the strap. they always seem to break after couple years... considering what DW5600E costs, around $40(Target has it on sale right now for $25), easy and cheap replacement by the time battery runs out. I like the fact that you can see the current time while using the timing functions, something Casio really need to rethink in their higher end modules... there is, I think a solution to the strap problem in the model GWS5600-1JF, one with carbon fiber strap and titanium case back that is atomic and solar, but cost prohibitive at around $240... but if you are looking for a serious daily driver with longevity, might be the one. Good vid. really enjoying these.

    1:01 couple of points.
The battery of a DW-5600 lasts around 5ish years with normal use. It's recommended to replace and lubricate the O ring every 5ish years to maintain good water resistance. So even though a solar cell can last 10-20 years, it's kind of redundant if you're changing the seals around the same time a cheap normal battery replacement is due. Solar charging is useful though if a watch has atomic timekeeping, due to increased power consumption. But if you don't really need atomic time, you don't really need solar.
It also only takes less than a minute to manually sync a DW-5600 to an online atomic clock. A digital watch is far, far easier to set than an analogue one, as you simply need to reset the second counter, instead of painstakingly aligning a minute hand and carefully pressing down a crown. Even if you forget, the watch will only run a few seconds fast a month, and will remain accurate to the minute for several months.
Another thing to remember, is that for people who live in darker areas of the world, or people who live outside the atomic tower ranges, solar-atomic is much worse than a simple battery watch.

My first and only G SHOCK is a DW6600. A few years after wearing it daily, the plastic surrounding the function buttons began to break off, eventually exposing the round, plastic housing completely. Ironically, I wear this watch to the gym. The exposed watchband pins, plus the function buttons, gives the impression there are four buttons on each side of the housing! I'm considering purchasing a square G SHOCK now and debating whether the GW5000 is worth the cost given my experience with the DW6600, or, have the plastic components on the GW5610 improved over the DW6600? Obviously, purchasing a GW5610 won't impact my budget as bad as the GW5000. BTW, great comparison video. Matter of fact, I enjoy viewing ALL of your videos and value your opinion. Thanks.

I didn't see the need for me to have that feature, it's not hard to set the time on these things, and I don't need that much accuracy. But I did want the other added features of Tough Solar, World Time, EL backlight (I *think* it does the Auto EL, too), 24 hour countdown timer & stopwatch. It seems to be a model in between the the DW-5600 and the 5610, which get more attention.

Cant believe I am Hooked on square watches. great value at and a great quality. Have the old faithful Casio F91W-1, decided to get the DW5600E as an upgrade, just wanted a bigger scale watch the oldy was looking kinda small. But worked perfectly. I wont be getting the solar and atomic time keeping. Many reviews of poor signal and failing, to update. Its not a big deal going to the atomic site and adjusting time once a year . and it took 20 seconds. is it really that big of a deal. you pay more but when they fail they tend to be just pass warranty.

The 5000 is just a head scratcher as far as functionality goes. The DLC backplate is pointless and is largely invisible when the watch is being worn. As far as corrosion protection, is ANYBODY having problems with their stainless steel backplates rusting out? I think not.The all metal housing is probably more durable but the resin bodied squares are legends in durability anyway. So since the 5610 has IDENTICAL features to the 5000, the only REAL benefit I’m seeing is it has softer more comfortable straps... is that really worth $200 more? I find them perfectly comfy as is. I think the 5000 model is grossly overpriced and any of the “premium” features are dubious at best. It DOES look better than the other too, though.

The problem is that the colours on the M5610 just don’t work for me. The red line around the edge of the crystal is on the orangey side and the baby blue writing at the bottom left clashed badly with the orangey-red colour. It’s a great shame Casio don’t do this watch either in neutral colours or with a single splash of red like on the (negative display) M5610BB but as it is I just can’t go with it...

Your the only one I have heard mention the display not being clear on the GW 5000. I just got my GW 5000 and I noticed immediately if I look at it straight on, the numbers are faded, hard to read. I have to hold it at an angle to get a clear picture, about the same angle you hold these watches in your review. Does anyone else notice this? I find this a major disappointment as my cheap 15 dollar digital watch has better legibility.

Just go with timex Ironman. Half the price, same ruggedness, buttons are much bigger an easier to push, and the module is more user friendly. Plus more legible lcd with higher contrast and large digits. Beats the 5610 in each and every aspect.

I got the 5610 last week, and the one thing that kills me is that you can't see the current time when using the timer or stopwatch. I use the timer all the time and I don't know what they were thinking when they decided to not show the current time in the smaller box in timer mode. I'm thinking of getting the classic 5600 just for the current time display on the timer.

    • @justingercken4129

Anyone interested in this topic may want to check out the following chart which shows what modes each module displays an alternate time in, as well as the corresponding watch models that use each module: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G-Shock#Modules
I had the same issue with my 5610, but primarily use the stopwatch, which, unlike the timer, doesn't display current time on the 5600. There are solar square GWX models that display current time in stopwatch and timer, but they are limited to about 2 hours (59.99) / 100 (99.99) minutes as a result. The non-solar DW-5600 models seem to be the only option for displaying in both modes and timing more than 2 hours, but using functions drains the battery and I'd kill this one fast, so I stuck with the solar 5610. Best-

I get how it could be annoying to not have them on the same screen at the same time, but I'm curious: if you start the countdown timer (or stopwatch) and then cycle back to timekeeping mode, does the timer and/or stopwatch keep going so you can return to it later, or does it reset itself automatically when you leave timer/stopwatch mode?

    • @rafaelobo1
      @rafaelobo1 5 років тому +1

      @@Lecso1972
When using the count down you can cycle to the time keeping mode, once the time is up the alarm will start. To silence it one can only press the reset button, without the need of cycling out of time keeping.
With the chronograph you can also cycle out and see the time keeping, the chrono will be running on the back ground.
But to see how long it has been, to stop it, or to use the split timer one has to go back to the timer.
