I love on the west coast also and had issues syncing with the atomic clock in Colorado however I found that if I place the watch on the window sill before bed and aim it towards Colorado, it consistently syncs w the atomic clock every time e.g. California and Oregon at around midnight to 1 am.
Dude! My cheap gshock battery died and I decided to get a new one. I asked for the 5610 for Christmas a couple years ago and got it and didn’t end up liking it only due to the recessed buttons….. I keep going back to this style and just came across your video and I’m glad you mentioned this version has larger buttons! Sold
I think Casio uses a metal keeper to give the strap more longevity. The rubber keeper usually is the first thing that breaks on a strap which means you have to ether replace the strap or track down a replacement aftermarket keeper. I had a GW-200 Frogman where 8 months into wearing it, the keeper broke. So I was faced with the situation of having to replace a band that looked almost new or track down a replacement keeper. I ended up getting a aftermarket keeper that did not really look right but allowed me to continue to use the strap until it broke 3 years later.
If you like the squares, you will love the Gw 5000! This is as near to the Dw 5000c of 1983 that you can buy today! The premium price is for the stainless steel case, the higher quality band, but the biggest price hike is that it is made in Japan! For a square fan ,this is THE G shock to have ,and it will last for decade's! I still have the Dw 5200c from 1984 and a Dw 5600c from 1987 both still working fine, so the Gw 5000 should last me out? These models are worth every penny!
I got the GWM5610 and yes I love the ol’fashion face on this watch, reminds me of the ikonic from 83. But I realy want this GW5000 and the choice is an DW5000 1-JF from 2001 becasuse I don’t need the extra functions as well, and I don’t like the coated jubileescrew backs.
@Thomas-fl2jn I have the dw 5000 30th anniversary model with the 1545 movement inside This is almost a copy of the 5000c 83 model in the modern case that is actually better made and finished? The only difference is that it has project team tough on the face instead of the 200 metre water resistant! It's a good watch but the first reprint is more true to the original I guess?

Option for a 15 second, or even manual on/off back light so users can see functions in the dark without having to hit the light button again. Second: Wider band please. Personal preference of course but I'd like to see this watch band a consistent width from lug to clasp or no more than a 1mm taper. Lastly; of course the buttons are hard to get to without some concentration. Larger buttons would be great but if a diameter increase is not possible, consider making the buttons taller by .5mm and maybe some knurling. I like this watch. It could be better as a tool for us working guys with some minor tweaks.

I have the same watch and I’m a amazed at how accurate the module is. Normally, the G-Shock is expected to have at least a 15 seconds per month loss or gain. So far, mine has lost one second per month.
I bought the 5610U which is the newest version and the buttons are like the one in the video. Maybe the older 5610 had more recessed buttons. The watch band seems to be the same and I love the EU date set up. Basically, it's very cool and what I like is the grey with red pin stripe, blue and gold letters. Very tasteful and I don't mind it being made in Thailand. There is a black version "made in Thailand " too, and it has solar, and multi band. I live in Germany now and there is a tower. I get updated at 3 in the morning. I think it's interesting there is a made in Japan and a lot of the extra costs imo are Japanese wages are higher plus the metal casing.
Another reviewer on UA-cam said the buttons are same on 5610 and 5000. Is the button size difference between non U and U models and not between 5610 and 5000? What to believe here?...🤔
@patricj951 I have no idea at this time. The 5610U, which I wear daily at a dye works, is still in perfect condition. The buttons are fine and I have large hands. I don't care about the Japanese made model, 5000? Whatever. I could buy one.
If I had to sell everything, this is what I'd keep from my collection. Or my Protrek. My only wish is that Casio would do this same "enhanced treatment" to the GW-5510...that model is much easier to manipulate the pushers. But it takes the square look to another level.
You said you would sometimes go several days without taking the watch off because of the comfort level, including showering, but isn't it detrimental to the longevity of the rubber to expose it to heat and soap/detergent?
I'm in San Diego and I'll only catch multiband if I leave the watch on a windowsill overnight with 12:00 pointing towards the window. Have you tried that

The standard g-shock 5610 is usually enough for most people. This is the little bit extra stealth mode for g-shock collectors due to it being like the original from the 80s and MIJ.
For the price it should have Titanium case and braclet. Citizen has amazing JDM Titanium business watches in all Titanium. Why Casio has to charge so way over ther top? I prefer the GW--M1560U-1, thinner and lighter. This is the problem with G-shock's you can spend alot option up & 99.9% of people will never know. Buy the extra feature💰 for your self to enjoy🤗 not to impress.
Also what app are you using to help sync your watches? Hopefully it's on Android 🤞
I use Clock Wave on iOS. Think WWVB Emulator is the app on Androids.

Makes sense - however after years with a few isofrane straps I’ve yet to break any keepers…

Check out some of the newer GBD squares as they might have addressed your concerns. This watch is more of a throw back to the original JDM square.

This is actually how original g shocks came back in the 80s, solid case and screw down case back.

The rubber is easily replaced with spares. G-SHOCK models can take some serious beatings - enjoy the watch. Live life 🤙🏼

Upto £400 now after the GW5000U 1JF came out.
Buy them used - way better value proposition.
For me personally I just wish there was a deployment clasp for this watch/band.
It’s the original way they did it back in the 80s. Maybe a deployment could work 🤔

Go GW-5000u. With solar it’ll never need any worrying about batteries. Also the GBX has annoying power saving features I don’t like.

If you wear daily it should stay H/M. My particular module I recall would never go to H but stayed M for months even in the closet
