Burney Falls: One of the Best Waterfalls in California
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- Burney Falls is a stunning waterfall in McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State park. The waterfall is over 120 feet tall and is so wide that it looks like multiple waterfalls in one. You can see it from the overlook right next to the park lot or by hiking down a third of a mile to the base of the falls. I also hike the falls loop trail in this video as well, which adds a mile and takes you up and around the waterfall. It is one of my favorite spots in California and let me know what you think in the comments.

So gorgeous 😍
Near Lassen National Park too. Which has a great campground on Manzanita Lake.
Fishing regulations are: "The limit is two trout with a maximum size of 14 inches. Single barbless hooks and artificial lures are required."
So you have to throw the big ones back - breeding stock.
Thanks for the info!
I had never heard of this fall before. I'm definitely going to take a trip up there.
Do the trees turn colors in Fall?
One of my most favorite waterfalls ever. I've been here twice and got the entire waterfall to myself for quite some time since I usually come around 8-9 a.m. I'm planning to go back again next year. Also, anyone in the area should visit McCloud Falls, too, since it's close by. :)
Couldn't agree more! That is awesome to have it to yourself. I agree that McCloud is an awesome one as well, I snowshoed there one time, it was so cool
What month is the best to go visit?
Love this New Add to Things to See in California. I would have Never known👍👍
So glad to introduce it to you!
Just visited for the first time about 2 weeks ago and it was absolutely breathtaking!
I've done that hike! The railway bridge scene from the movie Stand by Me was filmed a couple of miles from the Falls.
I always forget about that, I need to check that out next time!
Thanks so much. I'm planning on heading up there on a big California road trip soon. I also wanna see the Stand by Me train track bridge that's close in that area! Your videos help me so much !
Curious....what is that river? Or are the falls spring fed? Does the water ever go low, since we're experiencing so much drought? Thanks for your videos, I watch them all!
Fed from Lake Britton and below is Burney Creek. There's the train bridge from the movie Stand By Me to the east of Lake Britton.
@@Wutzmename It flows into Lake Britton. According to Wikipedia: "The water comes from underground springs above and at the falls, which are 129 feet high, and provides an almost constant flow rate of 379 million litres per day,". I went on google earth to confirm and its pretty amazing. Upstream is what looks like a dry lake bed , then the rushing water of the falls. Side note, I've drank directly out of the spring feeding the falls and it was delicious, lol
Just went there a few weeks ago. Burney Falls is the most majestic waterfall ive seen (Hawaii, yosemite, carmel). totally worth the drive to see if you havent; hike around beautiful as well. Lake britton, is a nice olace to stop by as well.
So glad you got to experience it!
I visited here just yesterday for the full loop without my camera. You covered it quite well for me to share with others, thank you! The cool mist , habitat creatures and flora and fauna fill the senses! I saw varieties of squirrels never seen before, soaring and feeding birds, a turtle hidden in the rocks in the flow beneath the bridge and thank goodness no one fishing!
I gotta check that out next time I’m up there. Have you been to lake Shasta Caverns?
Thank you for your videos, which I am binge watching right now. They are are a great escape from all the negative stuff happening in the world. The way you present is outstanding, and your Pops is an absolute treasure. Warm greetings from New Zealand, I hope you come out here one day.
It's so cool to check the falls out in winter time
I have been in the fall with the changing colors but never in the winter, next time!
Shoshone Falls in Twin Falls Idaho is 212 feet and 900 feet wide. Way more impressive than Burney
@@rayray4192 Don't think so. Burney Falls is completely unique. Height and width don't cut it.
I can see my kids swimming here, is that allowed? How’s the water temp?
Do u know how is falls in December
It is still this beautiful if I go in December ?
Absolutely one of my favorite places of all time- even prettier then the waterfalls I saw on Maui in Hawaii. The Husband and I stumbled over this during our Honeymoon over a decade ago when he mistakenly booked part of our visit at Lassen that was snowed in...so I did research about other things to do in the area and though it was a bit of a drive it was so much fun that it's one of the priorities for taking our kids.
I could have skipped the extended trail. On a hot day it wasn't worth the hike. Maybe up and back to the bridge. That said Burney Falls is gorgeous, especially on a sunny day when there a many shades of blue and green in the water.
Yea the extended trail is nice but without any views of the falls it is skippable, especially on a hot day.
I only learned about this place on your list of best waterfalls in California. Just got back from a trip last week after a 2-night stay at Pioneer Camp. Loved it! Also enjoyed the beach at Lake Britton. Thank you for sharing!
Oh! Forgot to mention that the General Store has generous servings of soft serve ice cream which was much appreciated on a warm summer day.
So glad you got to experience it! Thanks for the tip about the ice cream, will have to check that out next time!
This park is cool. If you go across the lake and hike half a mile there is falls called hidden falls you can jump off of
That water almost looks fake. So beautiful!
It is crazy to see how much pours out of it!
Where does all this water come from ?
It isn't merely "one of the most beautiful waterfalls in California." It is THE most beautiful waterfall in not only California but the entire U.S. if not the world. It is totally unique and unsurpassed.
The world?….come on…
Have you ever heard of tahquamenon falls in Michigan? Niagara Falls in Canada? Heck, Victoria falls in Africa? There are so many nice water walls on every continent buddy
Magnificent video, thank you for sharing it..
Glad you enjoyed it!
I’m heading over there at the end of September, another bucket list followed by a weekend in Lassen!
Oh that will be an awesome trip for sure!
I visited this waterfall and did the loop trail last September and how epic it was even though it was during that awful fire season.
One of the best areas of the state: Mt Shasta, Burney Falls and Lassen.
Agreed, it is such a stunning area
Exceptional place under a big roof of trees... The old wooden bridge is posing questions but this adventure seems to be ok for the not so sporty hikers too 😉
Thanks for sharing ❤️👍
Yea, it is a nice short trail to a massive payoff with the waterfall. Glad you liked the video!
Another awesome video,
Thanks you!
Cool video. Will have to stop there next time I am in the area.
You should!
Wow a beautiful waterfall
Can you swim in the falls??
I am not sure, I have never seen anyone in the water during any of the times I have went though so maybe not.
Some very beautiful views.
Josh.....Would like to see a video of you and your father fishing at Burney Falls😀
Maybe one day!
Canoe up the creek from lake Britain is the way to go
I like adding in the headwaters trail for a longer loop.
I will have to check that out next time!
Water there is so cold even in peak summer. I love love it.
It was really cold the one time I walked down to it haha
Can you swim
I am not sure, I have never seen anyone in the water during any of the times I have went though so maybe not.
Did you know that to the east of Lake Britton there's the train bridge from the movie Stand By Me.
So beautiful!!
Ive been wanting to go. Thank you for the video. I really appreciate the walk thru the trails. It really helps me plan our next hiking adventure.
This waterfall is amazing. So beautiful & peaceful place. I love it.
Beautiful waterfalls
Nah. Not East of Redding. Not Eas of Redding. Not E of Redding. Not East of Redding. Not Eas of Redding. Not E of Redding. /
Truly the falls are the main attraction at the park, but there are also a variety of other trails and activities parkwide. Though the loop trail and the lower lake trail are closed this season for repairs and upgrades, there's still the rim trail, the headwaters trail, and the pioneer cemetery trail.
There are also picnic areas with bbq grills, two campgrounds, a number of cabins that can be rented, a small beach at the lake where you can swim, a marina that rents kayaks and canoes, patio boats and paddleboats, as well as slips to dock your own boat. There's also the general store with supplies, souvenirs, and a snack bar.
The park is open year round. The marina and cabins are open basically Memorial Day through Labor Day, and the general store from April till October.
My 9th grade high school English teacher took my virginity here in 1995. I was 13 and she 26....I still think about how cold the water was that day.
Beautiful spot!
It really is!
I appreciate your highlights of the “not so famous spots “ of Cali. It makes me want to come back and experience them in person. Looks like gorgeous terrain.
It was either a tourist stop at Burney Falls or visit the Walmart Supercenter in Bakersfield. I went to Bakersfield.
Just so everyone knows. The path is closed this year for repairs. The park is open and you can view the falls from the top.
It’s is the best!! McCloud falls is also nearby
We went down to the base of the falls. My wife was very pregnant. I wasn't sure that we were going to get her out. With time we worked it out and got her to the top. We do love the falls and been there many times.
IMO the most beautiful waterfalls i have seen!
Did you drive or fly from Southern California?
Did you drive to area? I want to go, but a nine hour car ride from S CA would take some planning.
Yea, I spent some time in the Mt Shasta area hiking and then swung by here on the way back South
This was one of the filming locations for the original Willow movie. I saw it on another video.
I went there a few days ago and it was in the 60s (F) in the parking lot, but as you descended down the trail to the falls the temperature dropped and when we were on the part of the walkway where there no longer was a wall or guardrail you selfie filmed yourself walking on it was in the 30s and like an ice sheet. By the time we got to the actual falls it was definitely below freezing and may have have been below zero. My boyfriend had to take my 4 year old to the car and me and my 8 year old did actually make it down but we had to butt scoot and crawl to make it there. There were large groups of tourists from around the world including people with infants and ladies from Iran with long dresses trying to make this trek sliding everywhere. It is open now but be careful, it may be a better hike to take in the summer than in November. I got some great videos of this experience and pictures too, including a picture of my iPhone falling in the water. Be careful at this spot.
A few months ago you posted a photo of Burney Falls on Instagram, inspired us we traveled there last month. It is amazing!! Great video!! 🙏🏻
Are people allowed to take a dip?
Great video!!! You really captured the falls so well! One of my favorite places and your video helped make me feel like I was almost there again! Best video of the falls I’ve seen! Great job! Thank you!!
Holy cow it's 9 hours away from LA
Oh yea, it is a long drive from LA haha
Hi,Can you please make Video of lake Gregory and lake Arrowhead please. How to get there and things to do, where to stay..please..Ill really appreciate it .Thanks .
Thank you. Fantastic video..
I especially loved "one last look"!
Is swimming allowed?
I enjoy your videos with useful comments and gentle music in-between. Thank you for giving us new ideas for our next family trip.
Awesome video as always Josh. I read somewhere that the falls are actually fake.. and the water flow is controlled. Is that true?
I don't think so, at least I have never heard of that myself
@@californiathroughmylens ok lol
Beautiful falls! Was fun to see the little walk around the area too - thanks for sharing this with us!
Glad you enjoyed it! I love visiting that park
How is the fishing?
Hi. I just wanted to let you know how much I love your videos. They are a great balance of beautiful scenery, motivation, great commentary and the info I need. My husband and I spent 2 weeks exploring northeast California: Lassen VNP, Burney Falls, McCloud Falls, Lava Bed NM and then we headed over to Crescent City and followed the coast down to SF. Your videos gave us some great ideas of places to visit that we had not considered. Please keeping adding more videos. Thanks!
New sub! Liked 😊
Definitely my favorite waterfall in California! Glad I took the time to drive there where we were visiting Lassen and Shasta Lake.
Very beautiful
Do you guys have a Lost Coast video? We are going to be in the area next week and I'm having a hard time finding a definitive/detailed visitor guide and recommended stops and route
Thank you for this relaxing mini vacation. Well done!
Your videos are amazing from a technical point of view as well as for the obvious beauty of the natural places you visit. There is no shaking, no motion sickness-inducing sudden movements and I for one appreciate that very much. Also, you are down to earth and a very pleasant narrator who does not overdo the narration. All in all, your channel gets two thumbs up👍👍🙃🙂🙃🙂🙃🙂🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳‼️It's pretty cool.
Nice to see! I sure hope shut -ins get this channel. Thanks again for wonderful work.
Love your videos!!!thankyou for your time in making these, appreciate them so much
My favorite place of all time. It is gorgeous. There is lake past the falls & camping area with a beach. Lots of bald eagles fly over..
Can you swim
Thanks for sharing! I love how you showed the trail loop gives me an idea of what to expect and where to go.
Our son was working up there a couple of years ago and loved the falls. On our bucket list. Thanks for another great video
Thank you for such a beautiful video. Just want to know how much time it takes to finish full trail
Just visited Burney Falls for the first time at the end of August. Absolutely beautiful. Did the loop trail too!
I hope I can have a chance to see Burney for myself one day
stunning
I think I would like to take the trail the other way and end at the waterfall.
Thanks for the video, I'll know for future now
When did you go? The falls look great in your video, but not sure it looks like that year round?
The falls flow year round regardless of season or rainfall.
Can hardly wait to see it in person. Thank you for sharing.
Can you swim under the waterfall?
YES ONLY IN THE NUDE.
I thought California was running out of water.
It's a lie, they dump most rain water back into the ocean.
been there that place is EPIC....
Stunning. So no swimming or even going near the water?
I still think about this hike and its been 6 years :)
👍🏿
Gorgeous waterfall
I have a friend of mine his name is Ernie we called him Ernie from Bernie because that’s where he’s from Bernie Falls anyways he told me back there behind the falls go for a hike you’ll find fishing holes back there that whole incredible trout I plan to look there one day
That's awesome! Thanks Ernie from Burney haha
Do you have a video visiting Forestiere Underground Gardens?
I have been a few times but they didn't allow video last time I went so I wasn't able to make a video on it
Wow! Beautiful!!
Are dogs allowed
Dogs are allowed in the park but not on the trails, except for the Pioneer Cemetery Trail.
yea i would go but its a 6hr drive for me. its on the list tho.
haha yea it is out of the way for most people unless you are driving up to Oregon
Very nice
