As soon as the boss failed to pay on time, the contract was breached even the non-compete clause.

Not paying your staff is a repudiatory breach of contract, end of.

"Dear Boss: Due to your failure to pay me, you have forced me to find work elsewhere. Your continuing illegal refusal to pay me my due wages has cancelled any claims you may have once had on my "Loyalty". I will see you in court". And sue the living F out of him for wage theft, or wage fraud, or whatever it's called there.

gosh what a prick, been under similar bosses, was a waiter at this restaurant and complained as to why I hadnt gotten paid for two weeks, boss and I had an argument and after much deliberation, TWO WEEKS LATER, i got paid, for all my service, and then, you guessed it, I BOUNCED!

This goes on SO MUCH in the restaurant industry. I worked for someone (who I had thought was a friend).
She stole our tips REGULARLY. EVERYONE bitched about it. No one stood up to her because they NEEDED THEIR JOBS, and she knew it and took advantage.
Someone finally turned her into the labor dept. They showed up and spoke with two of the BIGGEST COMPLAINERS. One of whom I am convinced called her in.
The employees denied everything, of course, because they were AT WORK.
The labor dept couldn't have cared less. So she went on to break the law by not increasing wages TWICE when minimum wage went up.
The first time, we finally got our back wages in SEPT. (FROM JAN 1)
The second time was in July. I was long gone by then as I was "punished" because she thought I had turned her in. I had not.

      Their problem.
Its simple: work is a contract
      I work you pay me.
If I work and then I get an excuse that "we have technical issues and cant pay you" I leave then and there.
I have fulfilled my end of the contract, and when I hear 'we can pay you soon" and wont tell me when soon is I am not working anymore until that money hits my acct.
More than one day delay means I wont be coming back.
it is my responsibility to work as needed to the standard required. It is the employers responsibility to ensure that I am paid on time and the correct amount.
My rent wont wait, my bills wont wait, my food wont wait, my bank wont wait.
So why should I? And who is to say that this same "technical issue": wont happen again..and again..and again?

I worked for a company for close to 20 years. During the last year, paychecks were delayed on a couple of occasions. The company went under shortly after I took a job with a different employer. But I heard rumors that one of the co-owners of the first company had been embezzling. The other owner, his cousin, chose to buy out the embezzler's share of the company. The combination of the misuse of company funds and the buyout lead to temporary cash shortages.
Kinda sad, because I liked both of those men, and it's disheartening to hear that one of them chose to be dishonest. Plus, I liked my work there. And my co-workers. 😢

I've posted this opinion before, but I think it's worth mentioning again.
Abusive bosses - be careful! You may bask in the comfort of contract law, but contract law isn't much help when you're in traction. Especially when staff loyalty is so low, you can't count on their help or testimony.
I'm not advocating this response - just warning that narcissistic bosses tend to be so drunk with power, they never see that punch coming.

What I have learned in my life is that there is NO company/business that is loyal to their staff. If there is, it is extremely rare. In most places you are just a number which will be raplaced in a heartbeat. So when a boss starts with loyalty, I can't help but roll my eyes. It is business, not a kingdom/cult.

In a job I had many years ago on three different occasions I found female supervisors crying their hearts out in the staff room on their last day. When I asked what was wrong/ were they really that upset at leaving us etc. they all said the same thing "No I can't wait to get out of here, 'Michael' has been treating me like sh!t all day just because I'm leaving." 'Michael' (not his real name) was the manager and he had that type of relationship with the owner where he was basically the son the owner never had.

Ok, I agree this was handled very poorly, and paying late is breech of contract with the employee and almost guaranteed to lose employees. However I have both worked as a temporary employee through an agency like this, and worked with these agencies as a corporate manager, to fill vacancies for open positions or employees on leave. In my experience in the US, the companies using the service (being introduced to these workers through the agency) also have a contract with the agency which allows them to hire the contractors wherein they pay the agency a fee if they hire that contractor as a permanent employee. Everyone is generally quite benefited by this arrangement, the employee has already kind of “tried on” the job, the employer is getting an employee they know works well and fits in, and the agency gets a fee for getting them together. I suspect it’s BS when the agency says “I’m allowing it this one time”…he totally got a fee for this, and if he didn’t, he needs to change his contracts with the companies he provides the service to.
