According to the Oakland Roots/Soul website, they planned to play in their temp stadium at the Malibu lot by March 2025. Planning and Ground lease approvals in March 2024, Regs Approval June 2024, Construction June 2024 Construction Completion 2025
If John Fisher had any sense he would work TOGETHER with the Roots and Soul to make a thriving waterfront ballpark that could support both MLB and soccer. Let the folks who want to purchase the Coliseum site do so and that could help finance a stadium at Howard Terminal.
This. They're both Incompetent children who are in over their heads. Biggest problem with the world today on ALL sides. Business & political leaders BOTH -- lightweights, amateurs, wannabes. Thus... nothing is accomplished.
It's too bad... especially because I really think the USL is going to grow in popularity, and this is a great opportunity to elevate the visibility of both the Roots and Soul clubs.
Maybe both the A's and the Roots/Soul play at the Coliseum. They couldn't have this on the agenda at this time because their agreement with the soccer teams didn't mention that possibility. So the City/County/JPA get the A's and MLB to agree with the deal that the City wants (an expansion team, $$, etc.), get the A's and the Roots/Soul to agree to share the Coli, get all sides to agree to the terms, and then they bring this new deal for all of the teams back to the JPA on a future agenda for approval. While I agree that canceling the meeting looks bad, it may be that they just needed the time to consider this new possibility. Let's hope!
The Oakland Roots have one of the lowest attendance rates in the USL. They average 3,000 fans. Sacramento by comparison, has almost 11,000 fans per game average.
Tbh the biggest issue is the future viability of the Oakland Roots. I’m sure promotion/relegation people will point to MLS bribing the JPA (SJ Quakes are owned by Fisher unfortunately) to stop the Roots lol. But the Oakland Roots club is not owned by multibillionaires with political clout so it’s tough to give anchor tenant status to an organization who might not be around for a few years. Things would change if some big investor bought a majority of the Roots.
They play on the field of Cal State East Bay which only holds 5000 and it’s in Hayward, right around Mission Blvd where you would have to cross potentially both the 880 and 580 to get to games (backed up as is). I think they can get 9000 in the Coliseum site, and that’s while being a relatively new team.
@@sawyertuide7636 I don’t they will draw that. If they A’s could draw 8 to 10 thousand, how is a minor league soccer team, with absolutely No hope of promotion to Major League Soccer or an expansion team, going to draw. Lol You have the Earthquake’s in San Jose already.
When I started following baseball in 1989 the Oakland Coliseum was a considered a premier baseball facility being at least the equivalent of a Dodger Stadium. A renovated Oakland Coliseum would be considered Fenway Park in 2060... that is if this actually happens and they rip out Mt Davis.
Why is the JPA in control the city where the county should make them void because there’s nothing there anymore. Let the soccer team play there my God at least somebody wants to play there. The places is a dump.
Politicians lie. They say keeping names is what they are holding out for, but it's all about the money. A's faithful aren't a bug enough voting block that they need to worry about appeasing them. 10 million a year lease and there half back and deal done. See ya A's
So that’s the problem when teams work with cities and counties this is the problem that you end up with. I just don’t think it’s isolated here in the East Bay. The smart ones were Joe Lacob, of the Warriors and the Giants. They stayed away from city and counties and they don’t have to deal with all the red tape Too bad
A’s fan, but who in their right mind would keep their business in Oakland. One of the worst cities on the planet for crime. Politicians in Oakland are some of the worst. Wish the Giants would let them move to the South Bay:(
@@oiler62 I’m telling you that most of the elected officials don’t care if they stay or go. They don’t want to spend money on a baseball team. They’ll pretend they care but their tweets and interviews tell a different story. They don’t understand what the A’s actually mean to Oakland. Fisher is the biggest POS but don’t allow these elected officials off the hook! If they really wanted to keep the team and build a ballpark at Howard Terminal, why make the regulations nearly impossible (you should take a look at what they added into the proposal!) Also, why aren’t they trying to sue Fisher or MLB? Or at least threatening to take it to congress for Fisher purposely tanking the A’s to be able to relocate? It’s infuriating to watch all this unfold. The A’s have one of the best fan bases but the Rays, in the other hand, get to stay in a city that will never attract any fans!
so either the city/county officials anticipated the A’s coming back - big brain - or city/county officials are a mess and always were

You ask like you don't know.....
The key statement is "If John Fisher had any sense..."
CLEARLY, he does not.
Of Course Fisher has sense, that’s why it’s Viva Las Vegas Baby!
He owns the Earthquakes. He won't work with his competitors lol another team he runs like shit.
Join the Ballers on the world football pitch at Raimond park, put some seats around it
Is Casey finally realizing Oakland leadership is just as bad as fisher?

STAY IN OAKLAND!!!
Thanks, Casey. As a 30-year resident, all I can say is “that’s so Oakland.”
It's sad how sports are dealt with in Jokeland.

The JPA is either incompetent or corrupt.
Or both

Can probably say the same thing about the Warriors too
What does jpa stand for? Who are they?
Joint Powers Agency, established by the city of Oakland and Alameda County to jointly manage the Coliseum property.
Joint Powers Authority. It’s the stadium board run half by the City and half by the County. And it had been a disaster for as long as I can remember.

Oakland has a professional futból team?
Oakland should demand an expansion team that wins 100 World Series championships as part of the deal!!! Why not ask for more impossible conditions 🤔🤔👍
Oakland is too small for MLB and Alameda County is not a sure bet to join any stadium effort that would be around $1.5 billion dollars.
If I’m hearing this correct Oakland roots Oakland souls new stadium is canceled

He’s an ass
Jesus!!!! John fisher hates Oakland sports
This stinks! Oakland fans and their teams deserve so much better then this
Soccer????
STAY IN OAKLAND!! !!!
Yeah so Fisher can keep putting trash out there for you to watch and everyone laughing at you!!
Everyone is leaving Oakland, no roots, the city is dead and voting democrat into the grave.

The city never wanted to keep the A’s.
Yes they did. The A's never wanted to stay in the city. They looked at Fremont and San Jose their first years of ownership.
Yeah, Fisher is a great businessman like Trump
