Getting into multiplayer - Through the Inferno - DCS World

- Today we're in the F-16C and getting into multiplayer ops, something I avoided in DCS due to previous online gaming experience.
Through the Inferno offers good gameplay, in a player versus environment (PvE) setting. All airframes are available to fly, and all sorts of missions, not just air to air as I showcase here. This video only shows a small portion of what is available to do in Inferno.
Simple Radio Standalone (SRS) is used a lot as you heard in the video, though it is not required. It's a great piece of software that adds another layer to DCS!

Thanks! I certainly do plan on making more DCS videos. I’ve slowed down on those lately as I’ve been helping get our aircraft ready for the airshow.
Too bad you have to have matching modules just to join a server, so you're spending more money. What a rip-off when i bought this game a while back you didnt have to buy modules just to join a certain server, but now you have to spend more money just to play with friends that doesn't have the same mods as you do 🙄😒
@@damianward9695 but…you don’t. You can join a server without all the modules
@DeltaVee i dont think so bro cause when i clicked one of the servers, i saw that on the left side, it said "requires modules" then it showed the list of mods in red that are required to get in order to join certain server.
@DeltaVee cause my brother has an f-16 and i have an f-18 and i cant even join his server because i have to have that module and he has to have my module.🤦🏾♂️

Keep practicing! There's also some easier servers available if you want to get your feet wet in MP. 4YA Normandy is a good one if your into WWII. Through the Inferno is also good for all aircraft.
My first time playing this mission when I was new I accidentally shot 3 friendlys and I thought I was too good at this and truly was proud of what I did until I got kicked and didn’t believe what they said I did until I watched tacview. Just be careful guys lol
Fog of war gets the best of us at times. Always good to use your IFF and check your targets as well. Fly safe out there!
Hi! Is radio chatting absolutely necessary for MP? I can't talk (it's not a stage fright situation like you described), so is it okay on mainstream servers (GS, Inferno, ECW) if I just use the text chat? Cool video btw, thanks for that!
yea its okay, majority of the servers do not require you to use srs or radio, some more realistic ones do, just make sure to read the briefing there will be info about srs
Hi Diesel Thunder! My son and I just got into DCS now especially anticipating the HeatBlur F4 release!! Got a question for you .... Is there a way for me and him to play multiplayer together using two different computers in the same home using the same Internet IP..? Sorry if this a dumb question 😅
Not a bad question at all! You can absolutely fly together in at home, my son and I would do that quite regularly. Easiest is to join in on a multiplayer server. It is possible to fly together across your home network (a peer to peer connection), but I am unsure on how to set that up as I've never done it but am aware of it. You two could even fly in the same aircraft, as several allow for multicrew, such as the F-14 Tomcat, F-15 Strike Eagle, DeHavilland Mosquito, UH-1H Huey, AH-1D Apache, Mi-24P Hind, and others.
@@DieselThunderAviation yep! We did it in the multiplayer server, pretty cool! Going to look into the peer to peer connection, and guessing I'm going to have to buy an F14 to try out the tandem seating but probably wait for the F4, I'd love to be an WSO! Thanks!
Awesome! If you are on the standalone version of DCS, you can participate in the Free to Play program (not available on the Steam version of DCS). You can try out any module for two weeks every six months for free!

I took your advice and downloaded the stand alone version, we also bought the F18C and today the F 15 from Eagle Dynamics, it has been a real blast to play with my son, but you know I'm really waiting for the Heat Blur F 4 to ..."drop"... Lol😁, after I get some stick time in F4 II might have look up my buddy Will Bowers too!
Do i need to have DCS open beta? Or can i click the multiplayer tab on the regular dcs i have? Also. Is there a way to just connect to my buddies computer instead of getting on a server?
You can be on either the Open Beta or Stable version of DCS. One thing to be aware of is that that there are a lot more multiplayer servers on the Open Beta version.
And yes, either you or your friend can host a mission. You'll have to know the IP address of the PC you are trying to connect to in order for that to work. Also, any player flyable aircraft need to be set to "Client" instead of "Player" using the mission editor. If that step is missed, then only the person hosting the mission is set as the Player and will be the only one that can fly unless that setting gets changed.

Have played now SP with multiple planes about 2 years. I have long wanted to start multiplayering, but seems just bit overwhelming where to start. "How do I connect ATC fist time and in what freq, what is other comm freqs, do i get banned if I thumble, I just want to get to air and fly and kill enemies, but the moment to get to air seems to bee to tall". Dunno why, but I´m nervous, kinda always with this multiplayer stuff. I played world of warcraft about 16 years, at the times on the top guilds of the world, AND STILL IM NERVOUS if im noob. No really its that srs thubling and do this do that. It would be MUCH easier if got someone to just go to server, but dont know where to find one. I live in Finland many ppl here play DCS, but dont know ANY. Though I thought that tonight when going first time in some server I´m going to not go Finnish server to ruin my DCS life ;D Maby go troll chinese, with my noob subaskills. Thanks for this. What I really would like to see more in youtube would be like: "Go into air from cold first time in DCS Multiplayer server, step by step". :) This was good also. Just that radio jambo is something I really wouid like to have. Is t here servers that where there is still possibility to use those ingame comms, EVEN if i have SRS? Is there someone in every ATC´s freq, or how that works if nobody answers? (if its possible not someone to answer..) And what then if i have FC3 Aircraft? Does comms still work in SRS?
Totally get the nervous part, lot of us have gone through that. As far as ATC and what may get you banned, each server should have posted their rules and any communications frequencies if they use SRS. That is almost always in the mission briefing that you see after you select your aircraft. If not, Left CTRL + B will bring up the briefing page.
Not many servers will have a manned ATC at all, some will do it for events only and be unmanned at any other time. Some servers make more use of the in sim chat (Left SHIFT + Tab) for pilot to pilot communications. Hope this helps!

That strange. The only two things I can think of is either you aren't logged in, or you are in offline mode.
In the AWACS callout box is HDG the heading of the aircraft or the heading you need to take to intercept the aircraft?
Great question! HDG is the heading of the hostile aircraft. BRG is the bearing to that aircraft from your position. I don't think that script calculates intercepts.

What version of DCS are you on? A large majority of MP servers are on Open Beta, and there was an update that went out yesterday (September 30th). If you not on the same version, the servers will not appear in the list. Current Open Beta version is 2.7.18.30765

2.7.18.29493 is the current Stable version of DCS. Through the Inferno is on the Open Beta branch of DCS. A lot of MP servers in general are on Open Beta.
@@cdub8870 as a note, "stable" is not typically any more stable than open beta. The reason it is called stable is because only things proven to work get released on it. New modules, terrains, and features get "tested" on OB first.

well, I played multiplayer for the second time today before watching this video. I've flown for 20 minutes and finally found a target. While I was fighting him, one of my allies spawn there. I destroy my target, and 20 seconds after I get team killed by the guy that spawned there...
Ouch, that always sucks to get team killed. Most of the times I've experienced it in DCS it was unintentional or someone that didn't verify his target before firing a missile. Still a lot of fun though!
next video - maybe cut to the chase quicker - ???? just a thought
A fair point. I'm somewhat new to doing this so the more I do this, the better it'll get!
