Back in 1964 I was 12 years old. My family borrowed my aunt Ruth's 63 1/2 Ford Galaxy and took it from Amarillo to Galveston to visit aunt Margreete. I was into cars then and still enjoy them. Her car was white with a 352 V8 and automatic transmission with a red interior. It was a 4-door and had a radio. Great ride! I still remember swimming in the Gulf of Mexico and walking on the decks of the USS battleshipTexas at the Battle of San Jacinto state park. Good times! Mickey Thompson's racecar triggered all those good memories of that Ford family car and vacation. Motor on y'all!
One could only imagine if Mickey And Smokey had gotten together and built a car and motor......two men way way ahead of their time. GOD BLESS BOTH OF THEM .
I was lucky enough to see this car at the Ford show at Carlisle years ago. It even had a spare head in the trunk! I gotta find those pics. Awesome to hear that beast run!
Yea, thanks. Had High School Schoolmate, one year ahead of me, get a. BLACK/ Black 427/4 speed: blew engine in a year or less: Sat many years behind his home, etc. Anyways, always pumped me up: FORDS 427.. i had a lot of Fords: though did find a nice Burgandy 1966 XL/ 4 Speed /352/ Black INT/ps/PB IN 1967, that got me thru Pharmacy School( Purdue),& etc. Upgraded Brakes, and a lot of it ...always wanted the 428/7 LITRE/427 or even a INTERCEPTOR/390 would have been nice, though the 352/4 BBL MAY HAVE saved me a LOT of expense OVER THE other engines.!..,.,,Incidentally seeing a lot more FCODE, SUPERCHARGED, SPECIAL TBIRD,Interceptor than ever before, on You Tube. Ford had a lot of stuff, Performance, even in 1950’s, and Dealer stuff(e.g 3x2 bbl in Trunk of new cars, & awktched, etc)..
the fastest production car was the mercury comet with the side oiler 427 looked like a brick with windows held that title until the buick grand national came out..factory output at 650 horse power time was 10.37 seconds buick 10.35 quarter mile stock everything..
That's not a cammer. It's a hemi. Which means the combustion chamber is a half circle. The cammer has a camshaft in each head and is controlled with a crazy over 6ft chain in the front of the engine. That's not here.
Somewhere in the '80's (? not sure the year) I went to Mickey Thompson's shop while he was holding a "garage sale" of his overflowing excess of Ford stuff. At the time I had a '69 Mach 1 Cobra jet 4 speed, and on my small budget I hoped to score a 428 PI intake. There was a stunning amount of rare and unusual one off type of parts, a number of FE engines: tunnel ports and more. There were guys lined up with stacks of cash paying Mickey's prices. It was surreal: the pace at which Mickey was closing deals, the money changing hands, and all manner of M/T parts that I never knew existed. He may have sold some cars as well. Such a shame that a vengeful idiot ex business partner had Mickey and Trudy killed a couple of years later.
I couldn't agree with you more. I could never understand why they killed Trudy too. My feeling always was that if this guy lost money on a deal with Mick he must have been the dumbest guy in the world. For sure Mickey was a prince.
@@davenettlesmusic2954 It was a seriously low budget hit, which is why it was ultimately solved. The hit men were not pros, just thugs, they would have killed anyone who was there. The business deal in question mainly had Mr. Goodwin to blame - he had been lucky in business before, but he was not much of a businessman otherwise. Mickey parted ways because Mr. Goodwin couldn't perform.
I been MOPAR super gas racing the same car my whole life 40+ yrs. Thought I knew alot, and built alot. This thing was so advanced its amazing. Its like a top secret 1963 thing. Off set ground stroker crank, smaller longer H beam rods were 80-90s tech, and the heads are simlar to TODAYS CNC billet stuff and the 3 peice pushrods... Just unbelivable. Unbelivable. I just dont get Mickey Thompsons 1940s education, engineering all the crap he did with aluminium. He musta had a ton of freinds is all I can say. If I win the lotto im gunna approach someone on this car or at least sponcer it.
At 19 years old, I bought a brand new 1963 1/2 Ford Galaxie fastback in April of '63. They called it a "1/2" because it came out in late '63 before the '64 was unveiled in Sept. of that year. My opinion, the '63 fastback was the Best looking Ford of all Fords. I had a 289 auto and the car was sweet as could be.
My mother in law has an actual R code 63 1/2 . White with red interior. Her father Bill Robinson owned it since new. Super rare if anyone has any stories about the car. It’s mint with 2500 miles all 1/4 mile.
That throttle response is incredible. When’s the last time you heard anything other than a two-stroke blip up the rpm scale with that immediacy? My recollection says never. That was incredible. No Hesitation at all.
As much as i like the 426 HEMI this 427 HEMI made me drool. In a Fairlane or even a Comet but this is what Michey made and it is in a special place in my heart now.
I knew about this in the Fairlane but not a galaxy . Wonder how successful it was . Can you imagine if you had better carburetors and ignition . Amazing
The sound of this 427 is the best best music I've heard in years..
That's a piece of history! Mickey Thompson knew his stuff. It was too bad he was taken away from us. Rest In Peace Mickey and Trudy Thompson.
God probably needed an engine tuner!
Crazy how they were killed.
That engine is a work of art! Mickey Thompson was a genius. Designed without the use of computers.
That why it has 3 pc pushrod, looks like it was a fail in that respect?
@@colinmunro7337 About as much as every old engine has. And even some modern chevy hemis use 3valve designs.
3 pcs pushrods were used in the high rpm stuff...to get less deflection , and the tolerances and geometry , they wanted ..
Running without 'em too!!
@@colinmunro7337let’s see some of your great accomplishments in life………………………just as I thought, NOTHING😂

62 3on the tree 352.. huge inside.
Ohhh, yeah?
Even after 47 yrs. She can still breathe fire. Awesome. Raised my pulse a few notches.

pure priceless history there thanks for showing us younger folk what a real muscle car sounds like
What a sound, pure music to my ears!
I was lucky enough to see this car at the Ford show at Carlisle years ago. It even had a spare head in the trunk! I gotta find those pics. Awesome to hear that beast run!
That is really cool !! Very Interesting.
Could you imagine the crowd that car would bring to Barret Jackson?
There is no words for this.
Absolutely speechless
I LOVE this! Just got my own 63.5 Galaxie 500 HEAVYweight (!!) back after a two year restomod. Not a beast like THIS'n, but still a beast!

Great piece of history. Sounds crisp and angry!
Can't believe throttle response what a machine
I’ve had my grandpas 63 1/2 Gal for 40 years my Newphew is going to inherit her when I’m gone. Best car on the planet!
Seen this car many times. One of my top 10 favorite cars of all time
My first car was a 631/2 Galaxie...old 390 ran pretty well, too...love to have it back...
Great job on getting her running sounds awesome. Thanks for help keeping a great legend alive Mickey Thompson.
It sounds so crisp! Love a solid roller cam.
That snap is a result of high compression.
A Solid Roller Cam, shouldn't have nothing to do with the "crisp" Sound.
What a magnificent beast!
That sound sends shivers down the spine and all the way to the toes👌👌👌
Awesome piece of FORD 💪
Yes, indeed, Mikey Thompson knew his business for shure!👌😉✌
Very cool! Great sound. Amazing what was done by the factories over 50 years ago. Total Performance.
Thank you so much for sharing this piece of history. Gave me cold chills seeing and hearing this beast. RIP Mickey and Trudy.

The mighty "Cammer"! King of the FE's. Thanks guys for bringing it back to life.😄

You're exactly right. I just love the different variants of the Ford 427 FE. Thank you for the correction 👍
Mickey Thomas was a genius
Wow! This is a great find!
What a sound!!!! Gotta try those boom tubes!
What a WONDERFUL sound!
It's sounds so angry,I like it.
Amazing ingenuity from a spectacular mind that comes along only once in a while.

Wow sweet to my favorite Motors 427 Ford motor with Hemi heads nice
Butch Leal ran the Thompson hemi heads his T -Bolt Fairlane at one time!
The man what he was doing that's for sure, that is the power of one man's ingenuity at it's finest! Man that thing sounds wicked!
You guys are rad, sounds like a beast, man!
That is automobile art!
Now THAT's a cam! And the compression ratio must be insane...I did *not* expect it to rev up that aggressively. Badass!

I had a Chestnut '62 401/390 I bought a few days after I turned 18 in '62, great car.
Music to my ears!
This thing would send a 426 Hemi running down the road with his tail between his legs this engine was just badass mean
Not with 3 pc push rods
@@colinmunro7337 I seen some pics of the pushrod setup on another site, the fact that it idles amazes me.
Car sounds fu__ ing good 👍👍
"FORD PERFORMANCE the best never rests"
When you "whapped" the throttle I thought it was going to jump the engine was going to jump out of the car. That was cool!
Beautiful!!!!
That was cool. Thanks for all the pics and engine details! Good music too.
I thought I was fairly well versed in FE history. Obviously not as well as I thought, I've never heard a peep about this engine, wow ... just wow!
Same here!
That makes three of us
Never seen an FE with hemi heads and cross ram carbed, other than the SOHC.
im not a ford guy but how could ya not like this car.
Exactly. Fan boys miss out on way too much cool stuff.
This is Fords Hemi and they will run run and run fast fast and fast 💯💯👍👍😎

I knew about this in the Fairlane but not a galaxy . Wonder how successful it was . Can you imagine if you had better carburetors and ignition . Amazing
🤯 I'm in love.
I’d like to know what the rear suspension was. Factory style leaf springs ? Ladder bars ?
I wonder how much hp and tq it makes. I'm sure it's more than the "425 HP" painted on the hood.
M/T is the Man
Three piece articulated exhaust pushrods....
Sweet sweet music!!
In the two years since, has it had any track time to see what it would do?
That thing sounds so badass, is it as fast as it sounds?
that is fkg badass...and the music is dead nuts on too lol
Very nice. Where can you find people who know how to work on carburators nowadays?
Impressive !!! 👍
Did it ever see a drag strip? If so what kind of times and HP ratings. Could it compete with the Mopar Hemi?
Im interested to know how much power compared to the wedge headed 427 this one made??
Thing revs hard
Wow!
