I grew up eating these with pinto beans and corn bread. We didn't have much, but my mother always made sure we were well fed. I miss you Mom.
i ate pintos and cornbread half the week. they got old as a kid, but on the week ends dad would make a proper home made breakfast and we'd buy a gallon of milk and boy that tasted good with some leftover cornbread crumbled in an ice cold glass of milk!!
I never thought of having these with pinto beans and corn bread. It sounds great! I'd eat pintos and corn bread every day.
@@mmcss1155 it's a nutritional and delicious addition to the meal.
Milk And Bread😂😂😂I'm 63 my dad is 90...We Still Love It! Delicious
God bless your mom. 😀
I was raised on salmon patties.....mother called them salmon croquettes. Love them, even cold.
I was raised on them too. And my mother called them salmon croquettes too! We had them at least two Sundays out of every month. Yummy!
I was going to say the same thing about what we called them. I'm from Florida and my mom is from Georgia and we always called them croquettes. Either way, they are so good.
No fluff, no talking...just the recipe. You get an A+!
My thoughts exactly. I hate watching a 20 minute video for a 3 minute recipe.
@@neilmanhard1341 can't stand ppls cooking vids. Just list the ingredients. A little historical info is ok if brief. I can't stand to measure stuff either.
agreed🎉
Nice music. I love videos wherein there is just soft music or no music. Instructions. No talking. Just gentle sounds of someone cooking something tasty 😋
i love how people's preferences are skewing toward the simple videos...
Really takes me back to when my mom and grandma were alive. I sure do miss them. I'm old and just waiting to be called home.
God bless you 💕 you’re still here so old or not Jesus still has work for you to do keep running the race sending love your way 🙏🏽😊❤

Amen, me too on all points.

My mom would remove skin and bones from 4 cans. She would add diced onion, 4 eggs, 2 sleeves crushed saltines. She would form the patties and fry in vegetable oil til golden. We ate them a few times per month with cubed potatoes and canned spinach. Loved them then, love them now. Our family of 7 was thankful
4 cans, wow but that's a big family. I use 2 eggs, a little milk stirred together, 2/3 sleeve of crushed saltines, with one can. I think I'll try some Yogurt/sour cream, onion and garlic powder and lemon juice. I use lid to squeeze out excess juice but will try leaving in bones & skin.
There is no wrong way to make a fish cake, but the only right way is mom's way
That's how I make mine
O soo good
Ur recipe sounds better!!! I’m trying it this morning when I get off😂😂
Don’t eat animals it’s a sin
Captain Kangaroo and salmon patties for lunch when I was a kid.. miss you, mom😢
My dad made these when I was a kid. He would mash it up and mix egg and saltines. He'd serve it in sandwich form. Mayo, tomato and lettuce. Delicious. It's been decades since then and I'm making them tomorrow for my dad and I. Thanks!
What a cool memory. Thanks for sharing.
That was how my mom did it as well and thankfully I watched enough times and still make them for my family. We have frys or chips as a side.
My mom made these too. One can of salmon, drained. One egg. And 10 saltine crackers crushed. Fry in a pan with oil.
Yum
Lite bread and hot sauce for me.
My daddy was from Louisiana and he made the best salmon croquettes. They only called for a can of drained salmon, some diced bell pepper and onion a little yellow cornmeal and an egg. He'd fry them in a big cast iron skillet. I can still taste them. Your recipe is a little fancy for me, but different strokes for different folks. Thanks for sharing.
My mother made this occasionally in the 1950s. I loved her salmon patties. She was a simple cook. Her idea of seasoning was salt pepper, and maybe some bacon grease. She kept the canned liquid with the salmon. She crushed the soft bones and broke up the skin and left that in also. Only thing added was 1 egg, flour, and some crushed soda crackers. The crackers still had a variety of sizes ranging from crumbs to dime sized. She used her hands to mix all of it. She fried the patties in a cast iron skillet with hot melted Crisco. I think she made fresh mustard greens cooked with bacon strips, and cornbread ( never sweetened) to eat with the salmon. When I grew up I added yellow onion or green onion. I tried fresh dill, and had to be careful to add a small amount. My children loved the patties served along side of fresh collard greens, and buttered rice that was peppered and had a little salt. I am going to make some today, its been a long time. Ty for the vid.
NICE 👍🏻
So did my mom
I was visualizing all of that as you were describing it 😋😋. I made some tonight, I didn't have onion on hand but I did have a green bell pepper so I used that!! L9ve these simple recipes
@@joelove1987 I forgot all about bell peppers, I didn't add them bc one of my children hated them. These days I rarely buy the peppers bc I rarely can finish one. If I plan ahead I will make several things that contain the peppers: spaghetti sauce, macaroni salad, stir fry, seafood salad. Also, I think that by using the entire contents of the can of salmon that you get more calcium and omega 3 fatty acids. I can't understand why ppl remove the skin and bones. Recently I noticed that the grocery store has sardines with the bones removed! I have to wonder what does the industry do with skin and bones. Does it become some expensive food supplement or costly pet food? I wouldn't be surprised.
I can almost taste it...
My mom made without a doubt the best salmon patties known to man. Use to love them with some cheese grits. OMG, I was in heaven eating this.
Cheese grits sounds awesome. ❤
What did she add?
Oh No! MY mama made the best. Haha. Isn’t it great that we all have wonderful memories of something our moms cooked that we will always cherish. That’s why our moms are more valuable than rubies, silver or gold. I loved my moms too, just as much as you did.
None of the talk talk talk of other vids. Straight to the point.☆☆☆☆☆
Exactly. And having to watch them dice every piece of vegetable.....I usually don't finish watching I get so bored with it. I don't care about the music and the dicing.....get to the point.
@@stormy8092 I so agree, just subscribed for this very reason. I'm a busy person, don't have time for endless yammering, etc.
My mom used to make these for us when I was a kid. I haven't had them in decades. This is the first cooking video that's brought a tear to my eye.
That's the best thing about having great parents... the memories that we have long after they are gone.
My mother always used red salmon. She wouldn't buy pink salmon.
My mom always made them special for me for my birthday. I more than understand.
Hope it's a good tear.
@@andreadamascceno2139 Absolutely is, thanks for that.
My very elderly neighbor used to call these "goldfish cakes". She raised her kids on mill wages in the depression and could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo bellowed. Really miss her 😔
My dad wouldn't throw away a salmon can, no can. He would say thats like throwing away your saving from the canned foods you buy. When he died he left many bags of cans i donated to the fire department. Many kids today don't know what it's like to live in a depression like he did. No jobs they had to find ways to survive. No other option, no credit cards.
This reminds me of my late mother and all of the great things that she used to prepare. She was a classic southern cook.
My mom used 1 egg, crushed saltines, a dash of black pepper, and sometimes a little green onion. She served it with lemon wedges, canned corn, and a green salad.
Same here except served over creamed peas.
@@poehlerj My Gram used to make creamed peas with tiny onions
in it... so good, and it went well with just about any main dish.

@@joecamel6835 All a matter of personal opinion, Joe. Some like it, some don't.
Mine did too!
This cherished tradition holds a special place in my memory, as it was lovingly prepared by my mother. Her absence is deeply felt, and I find myself yearning for those moments of culinary delight.
My family has made this before I was born. I’m 74 now. My wife made it for our family. My three sons loved it.
We just did the salmon, egg, a pinch of onion powder and crushed crackers, not bread crumbs. Momma would make gravy with bacon grease, flour, the salmon juice and some milk. The black pepper went in the gravy, but not all that other stuff. On a cold day this was heaven in your mouth. And BTW, who on Earth would throw away the bones or go to the trouble to pick out the skin. That's just sissified.
I have a daughter that can't eat the bones. (Has health issues)But the skin, yeah, I would leave it in.Do you know if you can put it in a blender or processor to finely ground the bones?
Canned salmon is so underrated!
Ill be 83 next month. I had forgotten those.
I have a csn of salmon on the counter. And I have 2 sweet onions there.
I think that is a sign for me to make those once again.
I used to love those.
❤❤❤😊
I bet you have so many stories 💕 gosh I miss my grandmother more than anything. I hope you have lots of grandchildren that adore you
I really liked reading the reviews. I'm the youngest of 7 children from a farm family. Canned salmon was a great treat generally on Fridays. I am in my late 60s so I make them once a month with an agg, a bit of milk and Seasoning. Fresh buttery mashed potatoes with gravy of milk and flour as side.. Great memories relived, thanks all 😢
Yup. I love having them with mashed potatoes.
I agree mashed potatoes go perfectly with them. my mom also made a milk gravy using some of the liquid from the can and also she would crumble either 1/2- 1 patty into the gravy while making it, that made it even better. She also crushed the bones and mixed them and the skin into the salmon because of the nutritional value. My patties,, I add which ever I have on hand, crackers or the heal of a loaf of bread or breadcrumbs. Salt and pepper onion powder, garlic powder, splash of hot sauce, 2-3 splashes of worcestershire sauce and an egg.
My grandmother and mother both made their salmon patties with egg, saltines, salt and pepper.
They were served with mashed potatoes, corn or green beans, and a white gravy made from bacon drippings or butter…yummy! There was always extra gravy to top the patties, too!!
I like mine like that from time to time, but have experimented some and I enjoy making them as if they were a crab cake. Finely crushed cracker, egg, lemon juice, hot sauce, mayonnaise, parsley, onion (green or yellow), garlic, salt, cracked black pepper, and fried in a little olive oil and severed with salad. Still, nothing beats the way we grew up eating them.
I just can’t eat the mashed potatoes and gravy too often! That’s more of a special treat these days. 😅
Sounds delicious
I know we all miss the good memories 😢
@@youwish378 definitely! 😉
Sure glad I'm not alone . Salmon patties, fried potatoes, any fresh veggies! Love it to this day! Thx.
My salmon patties combine your potatoes in the salmon patty. I boil then mash potatoes coarsely, and mix in with the salmon. It changes the texture of the patties, but I've come to like it.
I developed that recipe when I tried to recall how my mom made them, and took my best guess. I don't remember if she used mashed potatoes in her salmon patties or not!
One more thing... im in my mid 50's...evidentaly salmon patties must have been a staple that ALL MOMS cooked back then....just read the comments !!
Growing up in Kentucky,
“Salmon Croquets” was the only way I ever ate Salmon until moving to California
But the fresh salmon in the pacific north west is in a class by itself
My Mom made it too.0ur family didn’t seem to like fish, but we liked salmon patties and were so grateful for this food from a can.❤
My Granny used to make me these! I can't wait until tomorrow I'm gonna cook some up! God bless 🙏✝️👑
Great video.
No excessive talking, and straight to the point.
I look forward to trying your recipe.
Thank you.
I am 71 years of age! Sometimes I get the taste for salmon Crockett s but don't want to take all day to fix it! This video gets thumbs up 👍🏾👍🏾 and a WOW and double WOW for the easy and quick process!! I love mine with rice 😋!!
I love how everyone has stories about their mamas cooking this same dish in the comments.
My mother called them fish cakes. I was a picky eater as a child but I loved these. With ketchup. So good! She only used egg and cracker crumbs and probably minced onion. I'm hungry.
Funny most of the comments on this include the word "mama." Mine does, too. She was a whiz in the kitchen but it's the simple things like salmon patties (NOT croquettes) that I most remember. Mom's gone but my love for this food is endless.
My grandma was a quick and AMAZING COOK BUT NO RECIPE BOO😅TO BE HANDED DOWN TO ANYONE UNLESS SOMEONE HAS THEM AND WON'T GIVE THEM OUT! GOD I MISS HER!
The Florida Panhandle folks always called them salmon croquettes. Mama made them and we thought they were a delicacy. Had no idea they were a cheap meal and not anything special. Aren’t mama’s great at making things seem better than they probably are?
My mom made these when I was a kid growing up in the 60s and 70s. Dad loved them.
These were a staple in our house growing up, especially in the mid 70s when my Dad lost his job. Can also be made substituting canned tuna for salmon.
My mother always used red salmon. Is pink salmon just as tasty? I guess I'll try it.
@@namvet1968 No it is not. Pink salmon are considered a lower grade of salmon and are not as tasty. Should cost less than the red. Pinks are sometimes call humpbacks in the Pacific North West.
@@davem6735 My mother made these with sockeye red salmon. She would never buy pink salmon. Very delish with egg, breadcrumbs and onion.
@@davem6735 The salmon used in this video is what I buy and grew up eating. It tastes great! I love salmon, either canned or as filets.
Mackerel was another substitute. I worked in a restaurant once and we looked into switching to it for their parties and none of our suppliers carried it.
Awesome ! My Grandma use to make these . “Memories “ she’s now 92
This was a great fave when i was a kid. Getting the bones was like a prize.
My mother ......rest her soul use to make the exact same recipe. They're very taste! Thanks for sharing!
My mom use to make these very patties when I was I kid. At the store I would see the cans of salmon
and just keep walking. I never thought about making them. Thanks to your video, I now know how simple they
are to make. I will NO Longer skip them at the store!
That is a beautiful story.
The Greatest cook ever were GRANDMA’S and mine made salmon loaves and fried potatoes and green beans. And Christmas cookies and treats were INSANE. I miss her Dearly and I’m a lot skinner
Quick and simple easy recipe with no unnecessary talking. Just what I was looking for. You can always use the top of the can to drain the water out instead of your fingers.Thank you!
If you like a little zest, add Hot Sauce or Jalapeños. I am divorced, living alone, I always cook 2 cans and freeze the extra for easy meals. I love me some patties.
LOVE, LOVE the bones!!! Calcium galore. Love, love this simple, no nonsense video. ⚘⚘⚘🐟🐠🐡
My great grandmother made what she called Indian pancakes! It was a can of red salmon, egg, can of creamed corn, some flour, onion powder, pepper some baking powder. Mix together, heat oil and fry til done, then we put applesauce on them , delicious 👍
I like the idea of adding creamed corn. Never heard of that, gonna try it next!
Applesauce, would of never thought of that. Will try.
This sounds delicious! Thank you!
My Mom used to make her own bread crumbs by putting bread in the toaster and running it 2-3 times until it was almost burned. Then she would pulverize it in a bowl.
We tried your method exactly and it worked out great……the kids ate it all up and they wanted more!!!!!
Thank you kindly for your wonderful recipe video.
These look almost exactly like the salmon patties my grandmother made. They were great any time of day, but often we ate them on a biscuit for breakfast. (I can assure the skeptics out there that the bones really *are* soft! If they've been left in, you may not even realize that you're biting into one.) God rest my grandparents.
We ate a lot of these when I was young. Soak 2 slices of white bread in milk. Remove bones and skin from salmon. Add the bread, leftover milk, a large spoon of pickle relish, and enough mayo so it isn’t too loose. Fry in bacon grease, that makes it taste much better…
Sounds good
My mother would use boil potatoes, add green bell pepper and onion, eggs , season with salt and pepper and form the cakes them flour them, fry. Still one of the most nostalgic foods of my childhood. I love and miss her so much. ❤
Born and raised in Oklahoma. My mom used to make this all the time when I was growing up. Here is what I do now as an adult.
Make two large salmon patties, top with mashed potatoes, corn and butter. Kind of like a shepards pie/kfc bowl.
Ah salmon patties. Another wonderful meal that conjures up time spent with my grandparents as a kid. I always loved knowing when my grandmother was fixing this particular dish and we kids would get to have it with them. I need to fix this sometime, although I'd probably cook them with an air fryer instead of oil these days.
I always run out of breakfast ideas and I searched salmon Patties this morning and came across your video. Simple, quick, informative, and inspiring. I’m about to go try it out now. Thank you so much. From South Carolina. ❤️👍🏾
Amen
Yes, we had / have them with breakfast as well . Eggs, bacon or sausage. Toast or Pancakes. Wasn't until I got older I knew people ate them for dinner😂😂😂. Either way....good eats!!
This was great! My mom used to make them as well. She called them, "Salmon croquettes" but she used mackerel and added fine diced onions. It was so good. She would serve it with white rice with butter and Lawry's seasoning salt.
Looks so good. After 60 yrs I’m finally going to do it. Can’t wait!
No talking...just the recipe which I like..thanks!
I miss being a kid when I see this kind of stuff. Yes I can cook this, but I wish I were back in my great grandmother's kitchen.
Casual Cooking,
I made these patties today, and they're delicious! I added some other ingredients.
I used 2 small cans of salmon, an egg, garlic salt, onion salt, blackpepper, breadcrumbs, lime juice, La Grille spicy pepper medley, carrots, red and green bell peppers, coriander, oregano, mayonnaise, yogurt, mustard, and some of my homemade hot sauce.
I had these patties on a bed of lettuce and some cole slaw for my dinner this evening, and it was delicious!
Thank you for this recipe; may God bless you🙏
Thanks for this video. Been sitting on 2 cans of salmon for 6 months and didn’t know what to do with it. I had all the ingredients except the breadcrumbs. I added flour instead, and they came out great. Cooking time was perfect as well.
maybe you should keep sitting on them.
Sitting on 2 cans of salmon for 6 months? Sounds painful! 😂.
But I knwo what you mean. I have some salmon (and other canned stuff) in the pantry which I bought for hurricane season, this is a great way to use them up.
Try cornmeal instead of flour next time. We never use flour with fish/salmon.
Toast some bread just enough to dry it out and run it through a food processor. You can pretty much use any cracker crushed up too.
Cornmeal works too.
Canned salmon, bread crumbs, flour, eggs, onions, green peppers, salt and pepper. Mom made these for us in northern Minnesota, 60 miles north of Duluth, in the 1950's. It was a food desert, especially in the winter. I could barely choke them down, because I don't eat fish, but I was very hungry.
My grandmother made these for our family for decades here in SC. Nothing fancy but I thought they were good with a little ketchup. I really miss her & this video helped. Thank you for posting.
Yes my Mother always crushed the bones added a beaten egg, diced onion and crushed saltine crackers, shaped them and fried them. While I do not like Salmon, I have always LOVED Salmon patties!! Thank you for the great memories. ❤
Hello Sooz
This recipe is one of the best i have seen i learn alot here
How long have you been watching this recipes if i may ask?
I loved seeing this video. I grew up with my mother making basic salmon patties. Sher was Irish and French extraction. My husband is Jewish and his mother made them, also. He thought they were a Jewish food; I thought they were Irish. I guess salmon patties are an American melting pot tradition. I still make them today now that we are retired although I rarely made them for the kids when they were growing up and I don't know why. The same with meatloaf. I love the old "comfort foods" of the 50's and 60's and these fit that for me.
Almost the same as mine, I use diced onions, garlic and old bay instead of the powders and serve on burger rolls with seafood cocktail sauce (Ketchup & horseradish mix). Also works with canned Mackerel.
Oh golly, my dad always used mackerel for bait
Ahhhh yeah these are delicious 😁
I use diced onions, eggs, breadcrumbs and red pepper flakes (no extra salt) and drain the juice for stray cats outside. Tuna & canned mackerel come out good too
My mom used to make these when I was a child in the 90s, they were one of my favorite dinners back in the day.
My mom made these at least once a week growing up. The only ingredients she used were white corn meal and egg. They were soooo good. I don’t make them often because of the smell but when I get a craving I do mix up a batch. Yum.
This look so so good, my bff did this once with Grits bacon and eggs with the yolk soft. it was so good that If I wasn't full, I would have probably lick the designs out that plate 😂 😂 😂 anyhow, I have this thing where I smell every fkn thing before I eat it and if it smells bad I won't even taste it. How does it smell? Can you please be as specific as you can? I would love to do this because I know the taste already but it didn't smell bad when I had it. If it smells bad I think I'd have my husband cook it while I leave the house lol
@MY ASMR ADDICTION, my mother always used white cornmeal for cornbread, and coating catfish. The cornmeal now is mostly self-rising and seems too salty. I won't buy it. She always used cast iron skillets to fry everything or bake cornbread in. We never had grits with salmon patties. We ate grits every morning with bacon, eggs, and homemade buttermilk biscuits. Whenever there was leftover cornbread, my father would crumble it up in a glass and pour buttermilk in and eat it with a spoon.
Yep.... That's how I remember my mom making them... With only one addition... I cut up raw onion.
I have a single electric burner that I bought for about $20 on Amazon. Anytime I fry anything with a strong odor, I do so outside, placing the electric burner on a small table.
@@shrimpymuscles8413 my best friend used to do that cornbread and buttermilk thing...👍
Thank you for sharing your experience with us...I was asking everyone in my family about how my mom made her salmon patties...you just told me,leaving out the hot spice...thank you I am 81yrs old and I just discovered how to make them...your a blessing😅
Mama made them on Friday fish nights. 1 Can Salmon, 2 eggs, a cup or two of corn flakes, 1/2 cup milk, salt, pepper, paprika. Served with Applesauce, Baked Beans, and Potato chips. I put a dollop or two of applesauce on my pattie and still do. I actually mixed the beans in the applesauce and also dipped my chips in it.
I grew with these as a little kid, and I'm late 60s now, deciding I want to make some. I found a recipe using fresh salmon, which probably tastes great, but I remember loving the teeny bones in my mom's salmon patties, especially the round ones (I'd set them aside on my plate until the end, haha). I'm glad to find this particular recipe!
My om made them the same way with just a couple of additions. About 1/8 cup each of finely diced onion and green pepper, and fresh bread crumbs rather than the dry. After forming patties she'd coat them with some dry bread crumbs and then put them in the fridge for about an hour to hydrate the bread crumbs. Good stuff. People today just don't have the glorious food memories we acquired from parents who learned to make do with what they had on hand.
My boyfriends mom used to make these when we lived with her, can’t compare to hers but happy to be making them for him now
When this vid got recommended, I immediately clicked it. My mind flew straight to my childhood when a distant relative would cook these for New Year's Day as a staple item. We'd all gather at her house & enjoy the heck out out of her simple, but delicious spread. I've got more than a few cans of salmon just waiting for this opportunity. Genuinely glad I found it. I never knew how to actually cook it ( or even tried), until now. Thanks! 😊
I remember my grandfather used to make these ,we called them salmon croquettes and we ate them with buttered rice, creamed corn , my grandmother’s homemade buttermilk biscuits and syrup mmm good. I still make them for me and my husband .
Thanks! I work at a group home and salmon patties was on the menu today. Never made them before and you video was quick and simple to follow! Patties were delicious.
My mom would make these when I was a kid, we loved them.😁
My mom made these for us when I was a kid.
Oh, Man. My mom used to fix them like that all the time when I was growing up. I will eat any kind of seafood, but these things are still my favorite. Such a simple comfort food. These and crab cakes just really hit the spot at anytime. I could really go for a sandwich and a beer.
Nice. I usually add a little minced onion and minced dill pickle to mine. Gives it a little "tang." Great recipe.
Almost mother-in-law served them with creamed peas and potatoes. The sauce from the new potatoes (from her garden, not a can!) and peas was shared with the salmon patties. I've been threatening to make these for my sister for years. We grew up with a lot of ham and creamed peas and potatoes. The salmon patties were new to me. And, YUM, btw!
Just made these with some leftover salmon filet. Instead of cayenne I put a couple tablespoons of Franks Red Hot. They were amazing. Thank you. Great recipe.
I used to help my mom make salmon patties at least once every 2 weeks. 1 can of wild caught salmon, 1 large egg, half of a white onion diced and sauteed, half sleeve of saltines (that I had to crush up), then salt pepper and garlic powder. We fried 'em up in vegetable oil and served plates with ketchup, french fries, and whatever canned green veggie we had. It would make 4 big patties for our little family of 4 and everyone loved them. Think I'm gonna make some this week since it's been about 20 years since I last had one.
Just made mine without cayenne pepper, and added extra lemon juice it was delicious
A childhood favorite. I'm thankful I grew up around good cooking. I enjoyed a lot of good homemade foods. Pierogi's is another one I miss.
My grandmother would break up saltine crackers, canned salmon, eggs, salt, and some shredded potato. Very simple. Sometimes, a little diced onion. Both ways good to me. I miss her cooking. At least she taught me some good recipes.
We canned our own fish, I believe it was grouper. Then made patties like you are speaking of with crackers , egg, onion and fried in bacon grease. Then we had white gravy, biscuits and fried taters. OMG, my mouth is watering now! The best from Alabama countryside!
I have found that Ranch seasoning is good in these and I also like to press the patties into crushed fried onions or fried jalapenos. My mother used to make these, like so many here in the comments, with crushed saltines.
Thk U~ No Blabber, no ego, nothing but straight to the point. Wonderful lesson plan.
This is a regular recipe in our home, I usually serve it along side soup beans, cornbread, and fried taters. Also I add diced onion to my patties.
Thanks for the video and recipe. Just like so many others, I had forgotten about salmon patties, which my mom made occasionally in the 50’s & 60’s. I will make some this week following your recipe. I remember cringing when I found bones. I’m a picky, picky, picky eater
I have not made many salmon patties in my life, but of the few UA-cam videos I have used, this is by far the best tasting and very simple to follow.. And it got the picky mom approval.. Seems weird to say the table has turned with the parent now being the picky one lol.. I doubled the recipe.. I added 2 stalks of green onion for the little bit of freshness and subbed the Ritz Crackers for the bread crumbs. Thanks for sharing with us.
I just made some ooooweeee
Why I am watching. Flipped tables…Hard to always figure food for a semi picky mom! ;) Will try the green onions!
Then thru it in the garbage then got some good quality fresh salmon and enjoyed the meal.
I always use ritz crackers. 😋
Thank you, so very much, for this Old Fashion, Southern Recipe! It''s exactly what my mom made, growing up in Virginia.
My grocery store's fish market makes salmon patties with chopped spinach and feta cheese. Delicious!
My grandma would mix it up in the food processor with onions and seasoning. She would always serve them with homemade drop biscuits, jam and macaroni and cheese. She called them salmon croquettes 😊❤
An excellent pantry recipe, made of stuff you don't have to buy fresh. I make similar fish cakes with tuna and sardines, but I have also made them with fresh fish, just pan-fried and crumbled in the place of the canned salmon. I also like to add grated potato and peas, to give it a nicer presentation.
These are fantastic with red onion and roasted spinach in them. ❤ Thanks for reminding me of this recipe.
My mom gave me a can of salmon, I’m gonna try this tonight. It looks very good and easy to make.
Like so many comments, this brings back memories for me too. As a Catholic family for many years we could not eat meat on fridays, so salmon was on many friday meals. I still enjoy it. Thanks for your recipe.😊
My husband grew up with these, I never made them in my life so I want to thank you for the recipe because it came out pretty good IMO!
My mom and granny was making these while me and my brother was growing up. They also made lettuce and green onion combo with flour and vinegar sauce. It was so delicious.
