Bruichladdich Port Charlotte Heavily Peated Re-Review
Вставка

- The Bruichladdich boys are known for constant innovation, and that means classically good bottles can wildly change over time. Rex and Daniel try the new version of Port Charlotte and compare to the previous expression.
Big thanks to Nelson Tilling for the bottle. Cheers ya M.B.!
I fully support doing re-reviews. There have been so many obscure and craft whiskies on the channel lately that I'd love to see new reviews of things I can actually go buy.
Very valid point, I guess sadly it depends where you hail from but that is nature of whiskey.
I completely agree. I’m not much of a bourbon fan myself, so some variety is nice.
Plus things can vary batch to batch and the grains year to year it’s interesting to know if the flavor has changed at all
I'm from Utah, so there's very limited selection by default. I've just gotten used to the idea I'll never buy the vast majority of the whiskeys and wines I want to try.
Just got engaged at the distillery yesterday. Cheers Bastards!
Now that's Brilliant! Congrats.
great stuff. im hoping to get a tour booked for September. doing atour of islay, can not wait.
Congrats! Slainte!!
Were you able to arrange the photographer hiding in the bushes to catch the moment?
@@Guentzel yep, we were eating lunch and photographer peaked over a fence and got pics.
My wife and I bought each other this bottle for Christmas last year, neither having ever tasted it. This was completely by accident. My wife wondered if we could return one bottle until she tasted it. Then she was glad we had two.
What a great story Mark!
We need a Port Charlotte 10 vs Ardbeg 10 vs Laphioag 10 video!
the port charlotte is a totally different flavour, as its heavier peated than the other two.
@@jani0077 While PC is more peated based off PPM I wouldn't say that is peatier on the palate than Ardbeg. Still to me, PC is the most balanced and my favorite of the three.
@@codyyounkin9946 Yeah, ppm is such nonsense.
@@codyyounkin9946 Just got a bottle and yeah, of all my Islays I would say it's closest to Ardbeg 10. No not the same but definitely similar. In a blind tasting I feel confident I would have called it a different Ardbeg release. I like it a lot, probably tied with Ardbeg as my second favorite but I'm still firmly in Emma's camp. I just can't find anything better than Laphroaig.
I'm such a smoke addict I can't even detect the smoke in Ardbeg Wee Beastie or the Port Charlotte 10. Only Ardbeg 10 with Laphroaig 10 reigning supreme. Probably never going to be able to try Octomore 🤷♂️
A year later and every time I take a first sip of this I say “that'll getcha there ”.
Emma's been in the vault again.
Good to see this again, one of my favorites. Great stuff!
I have been waiting so long for this re-review. Seriously one of my favorite whiskies.
I always love coming back to videos like this whenever I get a bottle of something I haven't had. Exploring it with the tribe is always fun.
Just gotta say... you guys pump out videos like ANIMALS. I like sipping whiskey while watching your vids and my wife is beginning to suspect I have a problem. "Honey, I'm picking up notes of franken berries, dogwood, and aardvark hair. I'm not drinking to get buzzed!"
This is my absolute favorite scotch. Not overly smoky, really complex but easy on the palette especially for 100 proof. And the finish lingers and makes my mouth water…good stuff
Hands down, my favorite 10 years peated single malt. Fantastic stuff!! A must in every peat head collection!!!
I must try it
How would you compare it to ardbeg ?
@@RichieH81 closer to Ardbeg than laphroig. Less medicinal flavors - more campfire smoke. It is unique in its own way love that malt
@@briantoplessbar4685 I have both at home waiting to be opened now. 👍🏼
Try the MRC version. It blows the 10 out of the water :D
Good morning you MBs, thanks for adding another bottle to the wish list.
It’s freaking amazing, can’t wait to pick up another bottle!
Just bought it and totally love it. Thanks for the video
Fuck I had the same reaction as they had halfway through this when I saw the notification. I LOVE THE PORT CHARLOTTE and now that it’s gotten the mooch top 5 stamp it’s gonna be hard to find! Damn you magnificent bastards!
I just found a bottle. Had to drive 20 miles to get it but they had it. Good stuff, I like it.
I agree with Rex - Top choice if I am in a smoky, peaty mood! So nice seeing a favorite being re-reviewed!!
Has anybody else noticed how buzzed they have got through this week's collection of videos? I am loving it, great videos!
Literally just had some of this last night and I always love how it pours out of the bottle
By far the best peated scotch I’ve ever tried! Love that deep rich smoke!
Bought this after seeing this vid...never had an Islay before...this is so good...i cant pull the nuances but what i get i really enjoy...thanks you guys
”May you steal your liver’s heart” - Automatic subtitles 😂
I just bought my first bottle of Port Charlotte HP and my mind has been blown. It is now in my top 3 peated, and those three are in no particular order. This could easily be my number 1 on any given day.
Already on my shelf before the review you Magnificent Bastards! One of my favorites as well!
I'm genuinely excited. I found a local whiskey group that has quarterly tastings in my state of Massachusetts. I joined and went to my 1st meeting last Friday. We had the privilege of tasting 5 of the Bruichladdich line. I'm not shocked the Classic Laddie and Islay Barley were in my wheelhouse. Lol the 2 Port Charlottes were good but Octomore blew my taste buds out. For my 1st time trying Peated whiskey, I'm excited to try more.
wow what a coincidence, today I passed by a great liquor store when I was out that was having their month-long islay scotch fair. This and a bunch of other special bottles of Bruichladdich were there as well as a couple types of Octomore (someday, my sweet...someday). This one intrigued me the most so I splurged on it and it came with a really neat BL tumbler (I already have glencairns). Looking forward to trying it tomorrow.
This episode made me wonder if certain types of whiskey are more impacted by age and head space than others. I often get clay on the Classic Laddie, so that makes total sense. Nice episode, chodes!
You men are very funny....in a very good way. The endless learning experience.
I actually bought a Port Charlotte heavily peated right after failing my first drivers theory exam (that's how we call it in the Netherlands).. so yeah.. Thanks for the endorsement Rex! it actually is a great way to check whether you want to go spend money on a bottle of Octomore! It at least reminds me a lot of the 10 year old dialogos (the 3rd 10yo). Anyways big fan, first post, drinking PS as I speak, slàinte!
Just got another bottle of this a couple days ago. SO damn good. Bruichladdich has yet to disappoint, and it was the Classic Laddie that opened my eyes to Scotch from bourbon and rye
This is my go to Islay whiskey, absolutely love it.
Got my first bottle of PC10 the other month. Love it!
I look forward to the 2021 Rex Wow and Yeaah compilation!
Just bought a bottle of this last week and I'm very glad I did!
What a drink... My first whisky I bought after my brother mentioned I'd love it on account of my love of espressos. I'm now totally in love with Islays. .. Totally weird for a guy from Zambia. .... which could be a country most have not heard of
I bought this bottle a few months ago and was saving it for an upcoming promotion. And damn it, I got the promotion this morning. Now I'm home being happy to open the bottle and find you airing this episode. Meant to be, you magnificent basterds
Thank you gentlemen for doing Greenview. I'll go out and get some right away, LOL!
Awww look at Brianna's Dads trying to slyly hold hands on camera. Isn't it cute! 🤣🤣
Just ordered online. Can’t wait for this one
Just bought this last month it is my new favorite, amazing scotch.
Port Charlotte rocks!! Nice back improvement ! Slainthe from Colombia!
I love you guys and I respect your opinions. Spot on my brothers
"I'm not blastin' those dooks." Sure...
The opening reminded me of a question my pastor once asked me. "What is the definition of a surprise?"…
"A fark with a lump!"
exactly what a dook blaster would say
Love your reviews just bought this ,love it already very much like latakia tobacco, or Kentucky fire cured cigars,
Tried it for the first time last night. Immediately has become a Top 5 for me, absolutely amazing.
Bought two bottles recently. One for me amd my mate for his 50th.
Money very well spent.
Islay is fantastic and well worth investing in.
This is crazy, I was just in Arkansas staying with family in a dry county near Mount magazine like 4 days ago. We hiked the mountain as well. I'm taking this as a divine sign to buy this bottle.
Between this, An Oa, and Quarter cask Laphroaig it's a tough choice. They're such good mid-end scotches.
I found one this past weekend. Great whisky!
Give it about 3-4 weeks and a few glasses less in the bottle and it will change. At least it did for me, the peat was more present with fresh cut grassy notes, but the overall smoke was tamed. Honey suckle was definitely present, but then again my memory fades of that bottle as I return to my first love Scotch Ardbeg 10 yr, and also dabbling in some bourbon in this heat. But Port Charlotte is absolutely a favorite if it wasn't for it's rarity in my area and slightly higher price point vs. Ardbeg. Glad you revisited the new Port Charlotte (been waiting for this episode/experience), and wish I had a chance to try the old.
that's one of my fav! Cheers!
had this before bed yesterday. it for sure, hit the spots
PC Heavily Peated 10 is my absolute favorite Islay, they do phenomenal work. I really like their barley experiments, Bere and Islay barley expressions are so good (unpeated).
As a 50% abv scotch this is genuinely SO SMOOTH it's insane. Beautiful taste.
The 2012 Heavily Peated is amazing too. Have enjoyed all the Bruichladdich’s I’ve tried.
My favourite 10-year-old Islay for sure! I know the feeling of not wanting people to buy it. It's already getting pretty expensive where I am.
I'm still nursing a bottle of the 2008 Islay Barley. The balance of fruit that shows up with the smoke makes it my favorite Islay
Definitely one of my all time favorites
Bought one of these on a whim a couple of months ago. It didn't last very long.... absolutely delicious whisky
I just tried this for the first time a couple weeks ago and holy crap! This is in the top three for me with Ardbeg and Talisker. Such a good whisky. Laphroaig is a close runner up.
Just got a bottle and it's moved up to a tie with Ardbeg for second. Still haven't found anything I like better than Laphroaig.
@@wingracer1614
Ardbeg is better than Laphroaig, IMO. Except for the QC, which I think is superior to Ardbeg 10. Presently, I like the Port Charlotte 10 the most though 😀
@@wet-read Everybody has their preferences and mine is Laphroaig. Team Emma still lives!
Last time I was in there, my local store had a bottle of the old Port Charlotte HP. I too like the nuttiness so I might have to grab it next time I'm in there.
easily one of my all time favourites
I never thought I would hear the words magazine mountain on this channel.... I lived most of my life in that general area. Getting good whiskey is a struggle even in the more affluent areas of Arkansas. It is drastically better than small towns but still can't get a lot of different scotches. I found 1 place only that has the port charlotte and bought it immediately.
Good day MBs keep up the good work enjoy your day
This just went to the top of my try list
Very nice boys. Been meaning to get a bottle for 2 years now
So I finally found a bottle of Port Charlotte 10 and all I can say is if you like burbon or mezcal or scotch or anything for that matter it will hook you up. Thank you for putting this in my top 5 too my brother
This is great juice. I have two unopened and am working on another. Nice change of pace from my usual Ardbeg 10.
One of my absolute favs! I better replace my bottle before the masses see this episode 🙈
Perfect timing, the restock arrives today (among other things).
I've had a bottle of this since x-mas. Gets rolled out on occasion. By far my favourite scotch.
Found a couple liquor stores that keep this in stock for decent prices. Good stuff !!
The unsung hero of peated Islays. One of my favorites of all whisky.
Picked up a bottle a few weeks ago and immediately went to see if you guys had reviewed it. I watched the old one but was surprised you hadn’t done the new one yet. Especially since Rex is all about that peat! I tried it and the biggest note I picked up was campfire roasted marshmallow! It made me feel like I was making a s’more while camping! Absolutely delicious and I think I’ll be picking this up over Ardbeg 10 more often...that is if I can find it now!
That time we touched hands over a bottle of Port Charlotte….
Lol
It's a time to come together over something beautiful!
Not sure if anyone has pointed this out already, but the plastic cap for the cork is made of some kind of glass fiber reinforced nylon, which is the same material a lot of power tool shells are made out of. Very sturdy, modern cork.
The touch of wine barrels used really elavates this
I found fun on barbon on your movie.
Though my flavour sense is not
Sharp too, I know. Still I can have fun next to the pod. Folklore study is interesting on reflect with on scotch. This gives me for joy on studying on living culture on spirit.
I only have 6 bottles so I’ll be ordering more!
I recently reviewed the PC. It is absolutely amazing
Good review educational video
I freaking love it!
One of my favorite!
I've got the old bottle on the shelf still. . . Time to do a personal revisitation!
Finally got to tasting this... God Damn.... What a hell of a whisky really. Glad it finally appeared in this area of the world. Might take a very good contender to bring it down from my top three preferences
Watched this, went and bought it, it is amazing
I've been to the same place and same liquor store in AR, that hilarious. We were equally shocked to find that it was a dry country.
Last time I did a side by side with PC10 and Ardbeg 10, it was really tough to decide. I went with Ardbeg but honestly it could of gone either way. I also love Octomores so.
The new Port Charlotte heavily peated to my palette was a full 25%-30% different from the old Port Charlotte I tasted them side by side and the old bottle was more floral and briney while the new bottle is far smokier and earthier.
Love the Port Charlotte ten its smoked heaven in a bottle.
I really want another bottle of this in the collection...
This and the Kilchoman Machir Bay are my two favorite Islay. Hopefully, they'll do a review on that one too.
One of my fave's
One of my all time favorite whiskeys.
First time I went to California on business, I found Buffalo Trace & Eagle Rare at Target. Since it's impossible to find at home, I was amazed. I later found out that Cali is like the promised land of bourbon, and you can find great stuff all over the place.
Absolutely my favorite whiskey under $100, both expressions are great, though I do actually like the newer one more.
One of my favorites.
Islay whiskey and cinnamon is a huge contrast and works super well. Give it a try.
Thanks for making my favorite whiskey instantly impossible to find...
I’ve found I really enjoy this Port Charlotte when I work my way up in Smokiness. start with monkey shoulder, hit up something in the middle then have this.
