Oh Mr. Ringworm you amaze me. Everything you do amazes me. Before my husband passed away September 3rd, we did everything outside like you're doing except we didn't do it with a chainsaw and we did have electricity here. We built our own house from the ground up. It sits on 13 poles, has two bedrooms and a great big front room. Living area and kitchen is all one area. We started it in 1999 to 2000 and lived in it without heat for a year and worked on it as we went. It's fun to do your own projects and work on your own things and build your own foundation. You simply amaze me with the talent that you have. When we first came out here we lived in a teepee for a year. Then we had a mobile home and then we started building our house. And you're doing this all by yourself too.
When I met Larry, he and his family lived in a garage while he built his house in northern Minnesota. They lived in a teepee for a year then in a mobile home while building a garage. The only difference is, he dug a basement under his house.
Dear Doctor Worm, That is one hell of a fine looking cabin. You can be proud of that for many, many years. Maybe trade a bathroom for a front porch depending upon your cold weather needs. In any case, BRAVO!

Looking sweet. I Think i would just trim the bottom of door before I would move the header. The air vents turned out amazing. Its not like somebody body going to get a ladder and check out your vents. Carry on.. Screened in front porch would just increase your living space.
I’m a retired carpenter. Your building skills are pretty good. Your nomenclature knowledge isn’t the greatest but as long as you know how to build you don’t need to know the proper names for the members as long as you build by yourself unless your trying to explain your techniques to someone. Really enjoy watching your videos Ryan, but I wouldn’t want to live outside like you do. I know how cold it gets during winter, I live in Minnesota!

Get you a blow torch hooked up to a propane tank and lightly burn your outside boards then lightly sand them before sealing. Will take a little more time but will look awesome 😎!
I have been using a jig saw for 30 years daily, I couldn't cut a nice circle, straight line ect.... until about 5 years ago. My Brother in law told me to slow the fu*** down, blade speed and motion, I am pretty darn good with one now. Thanks for the great content.
Looks awesome! :) When you insulate the floor I did a simple thing that works great. Just put 1 inch or thicker rigid foam insulation down and nail or screw the finished floor boards right through it. Seals perfectly and uses very little ceiling space.
When one door closes, another sometimes opens . . . After all that caulking the place will leak air mainly from those finger-sized soffit holes. Not sure what volume of air would have to be moved to create a whole-house resonance, but with a gang of friends over to man all the fingerholes something musical might happen. And you'd have a unique example of "playing house" . . .
Your biggest issue with drilling holes with the holesaw is moisture. I reverse the rotation once in a while to clear the teeth. Works pretty well. OR, get saws with fewer teeth. You mentioned it as I was thinking it. With winter and all that it brings knocking at the door, you should gather all your branches and trimmings and burn them before the snows come. *PROJECT IDEA; Make a Smoker/dehydrator! You've got nearly everything you need already milled, (scrap boards that can't be used on your structures)! Awesome job so far, love your videos, catch myself answering your questions or returning your greetings. You're living the dream!

Agreed, R19 in between the floor joists. Cover with plastic or house wrap and since your in the woods, I would use a wire mesh under it to keep the chippies out.

This would Help you keep the weather off the front door and steps. If you make a porch you could have a place to set and watch the world go by ! Screen in one would be nice also.
I'm a general contractor, we often put doors in temporarily with screws on that brick mold casing, which we almost never use, one shim on the top hinge and a screw through to the jamb jack and they work perfectly until we have to take them out and install permanently. Works awesome, and stays watertight until it's time actually install it.

My 2 cents is get some 1.5 or 2 inch rigid insulation panels and put them under the floor. At least temp for the winter. They will pay for themselves in the propane coat.

Love the channel. Love what you do. If you don't want to have move the door after, try this.........Insulate the floor from underneath. Put plastic under it to hold it in. Then put wood underneath. Your exsisting floor, would be your finished floor.
On your picnic table and work bench and all the furniture for the cabin, varnishing the surfaces will help prevent staining from spills. I also agree with adding insulation under the floor. After insulating use the wire screening below the insulation to help keep out the vermin. Adding a 1/8" thick foam sheet between your current floor and your nicer flooring you want to use is a good idea. It gives the floor a bit of cushion to help prevent squeaking floor boards.
Hey love the work you’re doing. For the door you should raise it now. You can alway step over the threshold for a few until raising the floor. Way easier now! Peace!

I know this is a little late but usually exterior doors have spots under the weather stripping to screw the door casing to the framing and keep the screws hidden, if you decide later to do it
I believe you shouldn’t culk the underside of windows so they can drain if water was to get in then, so water doesn’t get trapped between the wrap and the wood.
There are some nice screws that you can use for wooden frames for windows and doors, they are so you can adjust the frame, they are for wooden frames and not American platstic frames. Make a gap 1/2 inch around window/door frame for soft insulation ex rockwool, now you can adjust your frames when you need that, no need for shims between the frame and the wall. Using spray foam can push your frames so they bend and get hard to open and to hard to adjust.
Ryan, how about a Spade Bit ? Harbor Freight tools are mostly made in China. ☹ Ryan, looks like the Woodpeckers🦅made those holes........🤣 screen is good to keep the 🕷🐛🐜🐝🪲🐞🦗🪰out! Keep one tube in your back pocket to keep in warm from your body heat. Ryan, will the Thomson water prof interact with the roof tar and may be make it run down the side of your boards. Great Job !
I think it would look really nifty if you used something like a 4 inch diameter log with one quadrant cut out as trim for the corner trim on your cabin. I know it would be hard to find something that small that is uniform in diameter over that length, but still... It would look cool.

I could brush your teeth with my saw, it was my guitar and have built a house with the saw and more mostly parking lots for boats, you know on the water and such, water cowboy, YEE HA!. Given the length of your larger bit, I might have done them in batches . . . Your perseverance is impressive.

Try two live edges opposite each other for the corners with a 45 deg cut at the joint that might look great

Pull the foam weatherstrip out of the jamb leg and place your screws there. Once weather strip is back they are hidden.
