Came across this video while looking for advice on old spare tyres on classics. I've concluded that when it comes to replacing spares, your decision should depend on your usage. A second or classic car covering low mileage should probably just do without a spare at all and carry a can of tyre weld/foam instead in the unlikely scenario you suffer a flat.

Very important topic. The majority of ppl do not know how to change their spare tire. As far as know, I've never seen a mechanic pull down the spare, if the valve stem is on top, and check the air pressure while doing an inspection. We don't get time for it. In my personal experience, I ask for more time but the customer declines the additional cost. For vehicles that have the spare in the trunk, the trunk is usually full of the customers belongings. Again, additional time is needed and it's declined. Time cost money. Also, a lot of vehicles are missing their tools to bring down the tire. back in the days, owner's manuals state that the spare tire should be rotated IN when it comes down to do a tire rotation so all tires see the road. Unfortunately, maybe do to cost cutting, the spare tire rim is different than the normal wheels the vehicle so that won't look good. ppl also say they have insurance so if something ever happens, the tow truck guy will take care of it.
All in all ppl should learn the basics of their vehicles, one of them being learning to change the spare tire.

Well said, I was thinking about putting mine into rotation, but it has the basic rim not to mention the dry rot. Most new cars don’t even come with a spare for weight/fuel savings. That’s funny
