    I got over 150miles on my compact spare tire! Some people claim to have driven over 500miles so you guys are safer than you think! But still switch the tire asap

    I did 810km/500miles on my little dummy tire on my way back home, rear mounted 125/85R16 Pirelli, load index is pretty high, it's 99 or 775kg/1705lb and speed index is M or 130kmh/80mph, so they are not flimsy at all when you need it.

    The second number on any tire is just what percentage of the width it takes to figure the height into mm. The width is in mm, but you have to do some math to get the height into mm.
    120/90/16; 90% of 120 gives you the height in mm.

    Continental doughnut spares are some of the best! Recently I picked up a copper staple in my right Michelin Defender and had to replace it. BJ's gave me a hard time so I went to Sears. The issue was no receipt at BJ's. Sears carries new Die Hard tires. I might try those next!

    Spare tires are not made for long term use. They are made to get you around until you can get a proper tire and made to fit into the small space that they occupy in your vehicle. Plus these thin donut tires are way tougher than they get credit for. My wife at the time drove on a spare for 5 months and she did the speed limit on the highway, not 50 mph. The tire was completely toast after 5 months because that was way too long to drive on a donut,
    but people act like you can't drive on a spare for more than a day. No it's not a replacement spare, but most vehicles don't have room for those unless if you have a jeep or a truck.

    another big issue is where you put the tire in the front or back obviously the back would be much better because it's lighter I know this from experience.

    I bought an actual regular tire for my 2003 Lincoln Town Car last year, and I am glad the technician sales person at the tire store told me that the lug nuts and tool to put on my wheel were in this zip lock bag and where he put it in the trunk with my new car because the set up was different from what was on my car, the other tires, that is. It sure came in hand the other night when I had a flat tire, and had to call AAA to get a tire changed. Men don't offer help to women alone in southern towns like Macon, Georgia, which is why I as a divorced woman have had AAA since 1990. If I had to depend upon a man with a helping hand, I would be waiting until hell froze over. Have a good day. I used your video for a Facebook post, to explain to my friends on Facebook, how my regular tire in my trunk saved the night for me.

      I did that for my 2001 Acura MDX too! On mine, my new spare matches the rest of the regular wheels, and I drive A lot, so when I get a flat, nothing can stop me!

    Didn't realize that you can put regular tire on spare rim. Isn't spare rim too narrow for regular tire?

    The 90 you see is not the height, is 90% of 125mm wide like the 195/65 - 195mm wide and 65 is % of 195mm.

    I drive 75 miles per day so a donut is never an option if I can’t get it to a shop right away. I’ve always put together a full size spare with a basic steel wheel with an affordable tire that’s equal in size and rating. Much safer and gets me where I need to be. Also don’t have to swap tires around if the flat is on the front.

    Wait, what? 90 (or 80 or whatever) is not a ratio on a space saver, but it is height in mm? Where did you find that? BTW space savers are great if you - well - want to save space, e.g. when your car is equipped with LPG tank and you carry your spare in trunk, or to have extra storage under floor

    My question is I need an 18" space saver just incase, but when I browse for other cars, they all look the same..could I get any 18"space saver and put it on mine if needed? The bolt holes look exactly the same on all space saver wheels I've seen..could I get any 18" saver and call it job done?

    I just bought 4 spares at a junkyard and refurbishing them.
    Did you already have the bigger spare wheel?
    I really don’t need more wheels and tires, but I have so many, I really need to find a vehicle like a Ford Escape or Ranger that could use them all, I am still breaking in my Mazda at 200k
    I had a 07 Mustang but it passed 😱😱😭😭😭

    Well, if you're going to that size tire for your spare (and you have room for it) you might just as well buy and carry a regular rim/tire and rotate it in to the rotation schedule and get the added mileage savings on the other tires.

    • @davidbach7003
      @davidbach7003 3 роки тому

      That is not an option on some cars. Different sizes front and rear and they rotate only one direction.

    Can you put a spare donut from a car with 16" wheels onto a car with 17" wheels? My new Kia Sportage ('19) did not come with a donut but I have my donut from my Saturn Vue ('08).

    where would you get one of these upgraded spares? and would it fit inside the spot where the tiny spare typically goes?

  • @jlc7300
    @jlc7300 3 роки тому

    that wider one might not fit down in the spot in the trunk without causing a hump when you put the cover down. I get your idea though
