We all felt so bad for Yoongi during this live concert because it was before his surgery andhis shoulder injury was really hurting (you can see his right arm down) but like a trooper he didn't miss a beat. 💜💜

I was in a group chat while we watched the live. We were all freaking out about his shoulder. And later he can out & lied saying it was better so ARMY wouldn’t worry.😭
He has Limited Mobility in that arm, as far as being able to raise it above a certain level, but isn't masking constant pain.

N.O is about the Korean educational system and how messes up it is. It talks on the pressure the youth faces from expectations and pressure.
This song was actually their first comeback after No More Dream. So in their second album O!RUL82?
ON was a follow up of N.O and We are Bulletproof: the eternal is the follow up to We Are Bulletproof pt.2 which is cool. In the MMA 2019 during the dance break of Dionysus, they did a mashup with N.O. It was even incorporated into their ON performance during MMA 2020

In the lyric you notice the word SKY. This is referring to the 3 top major universities in Korea which are Seoul, Koryo and Yonsea. Students are studying day & night with very short hours of sleep starting at early ages to get into these universities since people who graduate from these universities are almost guaranteed to get good jobs. So many parents push their children so hard to get into good schools no matter what their children want to be for their future and the society, especially the education system in Korea is formed in that way. Children don't get to be normal children and become like studying machines or robots. This song is criticizing about the system.
While the intense percision of their younger years is jaw-dropping, I just love when BTS perform their old music because they have a cool, confident swag now that they didn't have then.
If you notice in the live performance, Suga’s left hand is in his pocket because his left shoulder hurts so much that he had to have an injection for pain. He had an accident when they were trainees but he had to keep it a secret that it hurts so he can debut. So after that concert years after the accident, he decided to have surgery that year.
This is my favorite song in their early career... the passion for what they had to say is clear. And the msg of the song really hit the youth in Korea because the parental pressure for scholastic accomplishments leading to endless competitiveness and drive for perfection is so evident that I thought it was the norm growing up. Therefore, even though everyone felt the pressure, no one really spoke about it until BTS came around. It took a lot of guts for them because I just remember how the adults were judging them as immature kids who didn't have it to make it in school to put the blame on others.

The concert was the ON:E concert they did on line during Covid Lockdowns. It's an amazing concert. BTS are always amazing in whatever they do. Thank you for your reactions. 💜
I love watching their older videos. The quality of the music and videos is amazing. It’s painful watching Suga barely able to move his arm in the live concert. If you didn’t know he had an injured shoulder, you wouldn’t have noticed, they’re that good and he’s so professional. I’m so glad he finally had the surgery. You can see he moves and dances with more energy and enthusiasm since even though he claims he doesn’t like to dance. This was great. 🤗💜

I gave a full listen to their earlier albums today and these tracks SLAP!!! even now they still go hard!!! why they weren't topping charts back then really is a mystery to me! We roll, we roll, we roll, everybody say NO!!!

This was from the Map of the Soul online concerts during the pandemic. It was fantastic.
From my understanding, the song is about Korean society and the educational system, and how it tries to quiet youths or not take them seriously. So the song is about saying NO to those expectations placed on them in their youth.
I’m sure someone will have a more in-depth explanation, but that’s what i got :)

There are actually live vocal effects applied to the performances afterwards . They never just lip sync… but the reason some voices are so much louder than the rest of the groups live vocals are because it has been adjusted with effects. You can always hear them live… but unless you’re catching a live fancam or a live as it’s happening… the vocal effects will be added to a lot of the lives like this having audio engineering knowledge and vocal production background… it’s easy to hear what is being applied to who… it’s typically the same members during the same parts just pretty minor for the most part… but I don’t know how it is to people without this knowledge and what you’re hearing. Regardless with as many concerts and appearances as these guys have been doing over the years… I’d consider them the least amount of vocal effects and auto tune that I’ve heard in live performances consistently… in groups like this. It’s obvious sometimes when the vocal we hear is actually a blend of two members… or often some of them singing over other vocalists back vocals gives a better idea of the parts that it’s not there. They use as little as possible … and work very hard to be able to do this as clean and legit as possible. Like jungkook out there rehearsing the entire 4 song medley all by himself just because lol he always will stay last bc he’s doing sound check on some song … sometimes jimin stays with him and sometimes jk can talk him into joining him… but they never lip sync. Generally there can even be live vocal effects applied depending on how the sound checks went earlier… and the easiest way to tell is if they’re singing and moving around a lot for one part being overly emotional and there’s no fluctuation in their voices at all…volume or anything when the mic is all over… but they’re as live as humanly possible imo.

This performance upsets me because this is when ARMY got a visual queue that Yoongi's shoulder was bothering him. That's why his hand was in his pocket, his shoulder locked up and hurt so he couldn't raise it. He went to the back got a shot in it and he made it through the show. Shortly there after he announced taking the hiatus to have surgery on it. It didn't help me because I never connected to NO very much. I don't hate any of their songs but NO I just never felt strongly over. The concert is their MOTS: ONE online show. That was from Day two, it was a two day online concert. If you check dailymotion there might be uploads of the show in three or four parts.
They have been badass rebels from the very beginning and this song is amazing still. The message again impactful.
This is the online concert for MOTS …. This concert you’ve seen some of I believe…. The PTD concert from LA is incredible and on Disney + if you haven’t seen it then this is a must see. Also their muster sowoozoo concert was another online concert from 2021 that is epic and insane.
They made MOTS more into a theatrical thing… made it a show bc it was their first online concert. It’s the tour that was canceled sadly for such an iconic album…. They worked so hard… but yeh the whole MOTS can be viewed online… it can be a little hard to see but there’s an actual dvd of day 2 I believe… it’s great… but the PTD LA concert I think is special bc it was BTS first time back with army in over two years live… it was everything to them … and it shows and they absolutely crushed it! Disney + the concerts free there with little extra backstage In between … they don’t show the vcrs that play in between sets of songs bc they show a bit of the boys backstage getting ready and changed and stuff but it’s awesome . Every online concert they did was insane… but nothing beats them live with army after 2 years imo.. especially bc they did old and new songs… so much fun

Not sure about this concert, but their PTD Vegas Concert earlier this year is on Disney+ now. I signed up for a month when they were running $1.99 trial and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Their voices are even better live!

I so enjoy your reactions. You keep it clean, yet it's still funny. I will say I like it better when you aren't live because you are trying to talk to everyone(because you're a sweet guy), but you miss so much and things I'd love to hear you comment on or laugh at. Just sayin...I still love watching you and hearing you appreciate our BTS guys. I'm 73 and have a tendency to spend a bit too much time enjoying Jungkook and Jimin. Don't get me wrong, I love them all.
That was their 2020 map of the soul: On:e online concert. They were about to start a world tour when covid hit and they had to cancel it. I was waiting to buy the ticket of their concert in seoul in april and suddenly poof! I ended up buying d the 2 days ticket of the online concert. The concert was awesome coz they brought new elements in the concert. Really really enjoyed it.
John, I hope you read the lyrics as well? Because there were no subtitles on neither this nor your last reaction. 🥺 As you know the lyrics are really important in their songs but maybe especially in N.O. I think you can find the ON:E concert on Weverse but I think you have to buy it?! 🤔

ON:E is only avaluable on DVD or Blue Ray, but it's sold out almost everywhere . Hard to find one ! I'm a lucky, I'm just find it on Vinted and I'm waiting for the delivery !!Can't wait to watch the whole 2 days of concert in a good audio and video quality !!

As others have noted, this live performance is from one of their two lockdown concerts. I can't even imagine having to give such an amazing performance without being able to get hyped from a face to face crowd response.
Between this and the 6th Muster Sowoozoo concert, they really showed how to use technology as a means to unite everyone. Highly recommend both!

So this song is about the educational system in Korea where kids just spend their high school lives studying for their College Scolastic Ability Test. This test and how high you score will basically in Korea determine your life (that's what the song says). The red pill is the dream of reaching the pinnacle of this test "the sky" by being excepted to any of the Seoul Universities (the best in Korea). RM says (in the UN speech) that at the age of 9 he stopped dreaming his own dream, he became what his father and mother had dreamed for him. Later BH opened up his ability to dream again but for his school years all he worked towards was that Test. Suga says in this song that he even stepped on his best friends to get better grades, but that wasn't what he wanted but again it was his parents dreams for him to be a civil servant. The chorus of the song tells the youth to say NO to have their own dreams not to follow the dreams of others.
This song is especially meaningful when you remember that the last song "No More Dream" is about youth that have no dreams of their own and complain about feeling like they are constantly being sneaky and going off to a PC cafe to play games instead of studying, while telling your parents your at the library. Saying that if you have a dream, work towards that dream and if not don't complain about having to study all the time to make good grades. Suga says 'I want big house, big cars, big rings but have no big dreams, Im really living the easy life'. So when you put these 2 songs together you understand they are telling the youth of Korea and all youth in general to live their own lives and stop living their life for others. Take responsibilty for your own life and find joy in living your "dream". Most of the school arch of their albums is about living your dream.
Lastly it is incredible that they are sending such a big message while singing fully and dancing so hard. That drum fill at the end was the prelude to We are Bulletproof pt 2 that you watched before this. In fact the playlist was Intro "ON" then "NO" then "Bulletproof Pt. 2" . Just wow 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Quick correction, not just any of the Seoul University’s , but the 3 most prestigious, which is why they sing ‘Seoul to the SKY. SKY is an acronym for Seoul University, Korea University and Yongsei University. Your CSAT score will determine which University you attend.

Since you asked early in the reaction... N.O. falls after Bulletproof Pt.2, of which Bulletproof Pt.1 was a song they made in pre-debut. You can find a lyric video of Part 1. There is also a live performance from 2015 here on youtube. Perhaps since you are reacting to these songs within this time frame, you could react to Bulletproof Part 1 Lyrics+Live to round things out. There is no Part 1 MV since it was pre-debut. Other Army's could chime in for further info. Also, just in case you don't know already, all official Bighit BTS MV's have the date stamp shown in the corner of screen near the beginning of each video.

Same comments as WAB Pt2 reaction. Much better live performances from back in the debut days. All of the full choreo in those but this is still amazing. They are great in literally everything. Dance practice insane also. Jimin defies gravity on the regular but this one is awesome.

I want to recommend/suggest BTS - ‘Born Singer’, I’m not sure if you already did a reaction to this song, but it’s literally my favorite of all time 🥺❤️ The live performances of 2015 & 2022 are really heartwarming and powerful.

I think this song is a direct love child of BTS and Seo Taeji, because they address once again one of Seo Taeji and Boys concerns about Korean education, in a way that, in KPop, is just not supposed to happen. This - and actually every other BTS track before or since, is also a very comprehensive challenge to haters' whines that BTS are not hip hop enough because they are part of the Idol "system". ST&B and BTS both condemn the extreme demands made on young people to study 18 hours a day with only short breaks to eat, in order to get into a "good" college (and get a "good" job with a huge corporation etc, where they will in fact continue to be bullied and obliged to work extra ours unpaid). This song is part of that. You will also like Seo Taeji and Boys 25th anniversary concert featuring BTS and, especially, I think, "Classroom Idea" --- ua-cam.com/video/DdswxGURNmo/v-deo.html. ST&B are credited as the "fathers" of Kpop - but I don't see their roots in any other Kpop / idol groups apart from BTS - I read that he had called BTS his rightful heirs...

❤️😂😂😂 They must have had so much fun remembering this songs from the early years, the performances, new, some changes, but they still had to reiterate that force, grit they had back then.. Jk looked almost shy to look into the camera, like in the mv where he was so strong and fierce:) and rapping... Or RM that toned down a bit, but he had to remember the most cause his rap segments where lager and more complexed back than (I think his change is noticeable in Bts music)

Whenever people start flapping about auto tune I always say the very, very little they use in live performances is because they WANT to, not because they HAVE to like so many others.

N.O is my fave of their earlier works too. I became an Army a little over 2 years ago now and I recall being so impressed when I watched the MV’s for No More Dream and N.O for the first time. As a baby Army I expected their earliest works to reflect their modest beginnings but the quality of the production belied that. BTS & Bighit always talk about how their mission statement is to produce the best possible art at that given time and it’s obvious when you watch these early videos that they live their mission statement.
I can’t remember the exact numbers but neither song did particularly well in the charts in Korea, at best maybe Top 100. But that’s irrelevant- the MV’s stand the test of time and the Army’s that discover BTS late get such a rich discography to explore.

you can tell if a bts performance is from 2020/2021 is there's autotune in it, their production were reaaaally trying to make the performance perfect, to go along with the crazy sets

Army sabe que BTS no lo necesita y no lo usan como regularmente lo usan muchos artistas, cuando BTS usa autotune es más por agregarle ese estilo a la canción que porque ellos necesiten usarlo, ellos lo han usado en Respect, en BS&T, un poco en ON, Agust D ft RM en Strange, realmente lo usan como recurso estético, no lo usan porque sus voces lo necesiten, los hemos escuchado tantas veces en vivo y conocemos la calidad de sus voces.
Saludos, y ojalá que después busques la traducción de N.O. Cómo ya te lo dijeron, es una canción que critica el sistema educativo coreano, aunque puede ser identificable para cualquier país.
