When that Chinese guy flipped the switch and started speaking maori
that was impressive!
unreal
Their convo warmed my heart a little
Yeah, was neat aye. Like Meng Foon
Exactly that was awesome 👏
Chur that Chinese guy that was speaking Te Reo is well fuhhh tooo much that was mean as neat alright
⭐️
the amount of talent between those two
I was impressed for damn sure
Fah g, that dokko uso was tearin it up bru, that was full on I swear
The former long serving mayor of gisborne and current race relations commissioner who is also Chinese, speaks Maori fluently
That Chinese guy that's talking te reo has been at the flea market in otara for a very long time more than 20 years. I knew him when he could speak very little English. Wow he's still there and can speak moari.
Thank you for sharing part of his story with us :)
Word, thats cool as Tautoko the uncle when you see him peeps
@YBN-SHOOTA-RAY Tt hes also cheeky lol
Mean
Jacky Phantom we don’t know....
I keep coming back and watching the part where the Chinese fulah speaks Maori. Makes me so proud to have that man be a huge part of NZ.
Blew me away Haha was not expecting it, awesome stuff to see
Me too I legit cried omg so proud
I'm not gonna lie, that bit made my eyes water up like a squirt gun.
Yeah that's awesome too. Put that up in 6 o'clock news. Have some good news for once.
Yea that was cool
Love seeing people speaking and respecting different languages and cultures!
Yeah, it's lovely.
Lil Yeet Not to disrespect is enough
Same
Agree👍
@lilyeet1980 Why, because you are better than everybody else?
"Hey aunty do you know where mcdonalds is?" 🤣
🤣
yo the chinese man who did the maori language was on point! churr
Whakamihi to that guy honestly, always awesome to see language reciprocity!
@@gmbrusselsprout why?
Andrew Hemingway the more languages you know, the better it is for you the individual and for the people around you because you can talk to them on their level and they can talk to you on yours - good communication makes the world go round!
This is the most racist video I have seen in a long time. Why should that young man have to learn a foreign language just to go out and buy food in his own country? Expanding the mind and stretching ones self has great benefit, but this is classic bait and switch. It seems the message is how noble it is to know and make the effort to know the outsider. 'See we are all just people'. And of course in Otara where we are all poor, this is the story of the common man. We are all just striving to live, right?
But there is a bigger story. China is at war with the world. And Maori are being used in this message.
Andrew Hemingway wow you've got a lot of bullcrap on your chest
Now Torrell take that Malay/Chinese man, have him surprising Maori with his Te reo skills #nextepisode 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
@Leonard Carr Not necessarily, Malay and Maori are very distant relatives and only a few basic words like fire will be similar: Malay: api, Maori: ahi, but much like how it wouldn't be a cakewalk for an Englishman to learn German despite being comparatively closely related in the Indo-European language family, I'd assume a Malay speaker would still have to put in a lot of effort to learn te reo Maori.
Leonard Carr Well, most Maori people speak English as their first language, not Te reo, and as a Malaysian Chinese person who grew up in Auckland I have yet to meet a Malay person who speaks Te Reo, most Malaysians who come to New Zealand are Malaysian Chinese and tend to identify with the greater general East Asian dispora in New Zealand especially as there aren’t that many Malays in New Zealand. But thanks for informing me! Interesting stuff.
Jacky Phantom They’ll say they’re Malaysian Chinese if you ask their original nationality and a lot of Malaysian culture comes to New Zealand primarily through Malaysian Chinese immigrants but generally they also get absorbed into the greater Chinese diaspora as part of the Overseas Chinese identity. I know a few who stick to their Malaysian roots but there are also a lot who just drop it, which isn’t too surprising since most non Malay Malaysians leave Malaysia due to the rampant discrimination and institutional racism that is seeded deep in the country.
Jacky Phantom Lmao idk what you want me to do, I’m just speaking from personal experience and based off the Malaysian Chinese people I have met here in New Zealand.
Leonard Carr Look, I seriously don’t understand why you guys are getting mad at me. I’m not the leader of Malaysian Chinese people who move overseas, I don’t control them, what do you want me to do?! I’m just speaking from my experiences and what I’ve seen.
Would you prefer for me to just say oooohhh yeah all Malaysian Chinese just stick in Malaysian enclaves everywhere they go and sing the Malaysian national anthem everyday since they are the most patriotic people on earth to their beloved homeland.
💙💙💙OMG! Appreciating 4:50!!! When this vid is about Maori guy speaking chinese , but reverses it to the asian guy speaking te reo maori!!! Awwww #heartmelting , then both cracking at it in both Te reo maori & Manadarin!!! Well done guys! 🧡🧡🧡
When he said he spoke Malay I immediately understood how he can speak so many languages. In Malaysia basically everyone is multilingual and a lot of people speak three languages at least!
He’s malaysian chinese, a lot of people in Malaysia speak multi languages
My wife is Tongan and speaks fluent Spanish, wish she was on this.
@torreltafa
Perhaps if there were alot of Spanish speaking people at markets
that’s such a random wish
@@omgnete ikr hahahahah
@@omgnete I mean who wouldnt want to show off their beautiful wife?
HAHAHA I loved this!!!! Super funny especially when he switched from perfect kiwi accent to Chinese! And loved the part when the Chinese guy was speaking Maori. Awesome video!
Torrell make more videos about this.
Hard
Oh
Or soft...either way
Yes
If we could all speak each other’s language the world would be a better place
@Nybbl er you sound like you haven't travelled... kiwis are all over the world bro.
@Nybbl er There are other benefits, though.
@Nybbl er You live in NZ not Russia.. Visiting is different than living somewhere, get that right.
@@georgeinjapan6583 In NZ, there's mainly only Job seeker and temporary additional support.
😂😂😂yeah
Aww the last guy took the time to learn Maori and that’s awesome
Thanks for watching Episode 1 ♥️ *WE JUST DROPPED EPISODE 2 HERE*

I can't turn on notifications because it said your content is made for kids, can you change it so I can turn it on?
Solid brother , keep it going 💯 💪 👌 👍 all the best , chur
Its amazing how people warm up to one that speaks a foreign language when in their communities - assimilating and inclusion via language is big step to break racial stereotyping
thx for the likes guys
Maybe kiwi's aren't as multi-lingual as a lot of the world so it's surprising 🤔
Mr. M lol fucking what
@@dislikebutton3887 its true, dont deny it. In Europe and Asia its not that uncommon for people to fluently speak 3 or more languages, maybe YOU speak more than one language, but it's not that common.
@@mr.m2659 its usually Polynesian languages here
@@Dwaynieeyeah mostly polys, 18 to 20% of kiwis are bilingual which is mostly made up of people who picked up English as a 2nd language. Im not trashing anyone I'm just saying, its not common for Kiwis to become fluent in a 2nd language.
That last guy did like the local and learnt maori....fmL sounded even better than some of my OWN broz and their full maori 🤦🏽♂️😭😭😭😭😭🤣
made me so happy when they spoke mandarin and te reo together 💕 so awesome
We have found the NZ laoshu!!! Been waiting for one like this...
This was cute as watching the oldies respond to him straight away
Brah that uncle that was speaking Te Reo to the bro. He’s invited to the hākari!! ✊🏽
Awesome vid and interaction with local Chinese especially last guy who took the time to learn te reo Maori #skills
Meng Foon speaks it fluently
he has been there for over 20 years
So he sjhould. We are not in China.
Christine Graham, do you speak it fluently bro?
Gifted fellow, excited about his Chinese language
This made my day. I want to learn Chinese these people are so lively when u speak to them in their language, how cool, just beautiful!!! 👍
I am Chinese and I am learning te Reo Maori right now. te Reo Maori is impressive, I love its songs, or I should say waiata. and I love the Maori art and their values. but it is still hard for me to speak fluently, but I will keep learning~
$1! "GOOD!"
That lady has been waiting for someone to barter for way too damn long!
Bargain?
Good on you bro, this is a good way to bring our communities together. Kia Kaha Aotearoa
Being nz born chinese i think this is awesome to challenge some ingrained prejudices we have about every culture! thanks for doing this Torrell!
As a NZ Born Chinese/ Kiwi Asian. Dude, this is some amazing stuff!
when the chinese guy flipped the switch and starting speaking te reo😱🔥
The way that second woman completely lit up with warmth. So much respect to Language learners who go take on their learning journies. Language is such a powerful bridge to human connection 🙏🏼❤
this guy could make some serious coin off this. tonnes of popular foreign youtubers exist - xiao ma, ma si rui, blondie in china.
Check out Laoshu he is the best.
Don't forget Winston and C Milk.......... (keep it _real_ ).
So good to watch those people relaxing when he spoke chinese, as if they felt safe and appreciated.
LOVED THIS - saw this guy on the news for helping Chinese tourist in translation with NZ tours. Mad collab cuz
EDIT: tee seang, what a man! 😍 awesome to see that interaction
Him talking with that guy at the end in Māori and Mandarin was awesome!
That last Asian man was the bomb!!
This is what makes the world beautiful. People need to travel and experience the world and open their minds to the endless possibilities..
THESE TYPE OF VIDS ARE FIIIIIRRRREEEEEE!!!! It keeps getting better and better bro!! Keep it up
"Hey uncle, do you know if these apples taste good"? 😂😂😂
People that live in Nz are the most down to earth people I know
We're ok

Love this so much! Jimah your Mandarin is so good and the guy who spoke Te Reo was awesome too ❤️😍 Such a wonderful display of respecting each other's cultures through language ❤️ Thanks for sharing this Torrell 😁
This so cute!!!
I'm a Màori New Zealander, I would love to communicate to such kind people one day :)
Farrr this video made my day so good, their reactions should do more!!
This is awsome it's what we need right know we are gifted with so much diversity in our country soak it up whanau
I remember the man who spoke Māori from when I was little kid and he's still there! Awesome to see!
the gorgeous Malay man speaking te reo is a whole vibe
he's Malaysian Chinese. His name gives it away
But what is a whole vibe?
Matt Stevens it’s just the vibe...like Mabo
He is Malaysian Chinese. Not Malay. Malaysia is a multiracial country consist of 3 main ethnic. CHINESE / Malay and Indian.
Besides, most Chinese in this video are from Malaysia. I know their accent. Haha!
@@SantomPh yup. His name, southern sounding names from South East Asia Chinese esp Malaysian or Singaporean.
In fact, most Chinese he talked to are Malaysian Chinese by the way their mandarin sounded. Not from Mainland China.
Amazing stuff mate. Married to a Chinese for 10 years now and I think you are an inspiration to learn the amazing language
"Excuse me Aunty! Do you know where Mcdonalds is?" classic! chur my maori Lol:P ..
Tee Seang, you're the man bro. Makes me wanna learn and use Mandarin to help Chinese population in NZ feel more welcome, especially the older generation. 1 love g.
Man it's so lonely being the only person of maori descent in south Africa
Edit: A-O
Maybe try learn the local language and engage with them 🤷♀️
@Leonard Carr ny bru I do, I grew up here in the kaap but I want know about and learn my history
@@RT-lc1nj I do, I grew up here went school here, apparently they classify me as malay here
Moari? try Māori bro
learning a completely different language is the way we bring cultures together. what an awesome video 👌
HAH my cousin is samoan and speaks fluent chinese as well! learned it for his mission to Taiwan
Speaking another language brings down so many barriers for communication and also barriers for great connection. Awesome stuff bro keep it up!
Not as amazing as an old shopkeeper in Cairo speaking to me in Maori. Apparently his dad was in 28 Battalion.
Love these types of videos, great vibes. Keep this content coming!!
“I studied at the Beijing language school”
“Ohhhh you studied in China”
Bruhhhhh
I mean Beijing is the capital of China
Haha since we have no lock down in nz i think you may be the only channel making these videos now, puuump them out bro! This dude a Maori Laoshī ahaha
He should be in a high profile job as a translator, prefably for a Western Corporation in China or Asia but never for any Government, especially the Yanks !
What else are you suppoise to do when you get a Scholarship to Beijing University ? Obviously he studied hard ! Good on him, he has a lot options, billions in fact !
Nice to give them all a surprise & make them smile like that.
That was nice especially when chinese spoke Maori I think its awesome speaking nd hearing native tongues nice
Keep doing what you doing Torrell. Season 2...LETZZZZ GOOO🙂🙃😉
Can you put this is soup?
“Yes of course”
ARE YOU SURE?
Great video, regards from Hamilton, a Chinese student
I Love it when the Chinese guy is speaking Maori to the Maori and the Maori is speaking Chinese to the Chinese guy. So funny, much respect
This is so awesome ka rawe. What a dude! And that Malaysian Chinese guy speaking te reo, tu meke!
Bro tbh if an Asian guy started speaking te reo I'd freak out as well 😳 😄 🤣
When torell showed up at the end i was like nah you're fired lmao.
Pretty awesome seeing their reactions about the bro 🙌
that guy who can speak Maori he's awesome, he also speaks Malays i bet he is Malaysian Chinese born. Li hai~
Saya Anak Pulau Pinang- Malaysia
Terima kasih.
Impressive Jimah👍 but your friend is 😂. The auntie sellers love you. They sell the food cheaper to you plus bonus. Well done!
So would this make the bro a HORIENTAL?
🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah/Nah...That's What you call a brō who rents a whare from them...hahaha
Your channel looks interesting, I would like to see more of these...it’s good to see cultures interact in their own language...I’m fascinated
as a chinese person, i’m not even half as fluent as this guy-
Whaat lol.. But I guess it's the same as me not being fluent at all in my Māori lauguage.. : s
Tbf he did learn Mandarin on a university level.
This is so awesome to see building bridges between cultures. I am so proud of you and your ability to connect to our Asian friends instead of all the hatefulness seen lately especially overseas. Kia ora😀
That's so cool I Would love to learn Chinese
Never thought I would see a UA-cam video in Avondale 😂
Wow! That’s pretty cool
4:40 omg 🥰 that’s so awesome 👏🏻 didn’t expect that 😇 rawe!
Looks like avondale sunday market to me🤣🤣🤷🏽♂️
yo hard, the Asian guy that was speaking Maori has been there for ages
He's also a Tour guide in Rotorua for many Chinese visitors that visit there.
Me after watching IP man:
So cool ! he’s so polite and kind to them too ! awesome stuff
The Chinese man has more respect to learn Maori then white New Zealanders lol
I think so many Pakehas not 'white' ' as you say, would love to learn Te Reo too. It's not always easy to learn, we do not ever hear it in the South and no classes around here and ppl to practice with.
Being a foreigner myself here in New Zealand I can guarantee you guys that they appreciated the love
It’s not the same as if he was white, Maori and Chinese look very similar.
Not to chinese people
The interesting thing is, that the Polynesian people are believed to be descendants of a seafaring migration that spread through the Pacific ending in NZ with the Maori...... and starting from China. Actually, Taiwan. So really, China is part of New Zealand...
@@chuffpup we now think they only truly became polynesian in polynesia and then back tracked to China, Japan, Philippines, etc... tis what the DNA analysis suggests.
i stumbled across this video and I absolutely love it! my parents work at the Avondale markets and I was hoping they were in the video but they weren’t. Maybe next time haha
Nice to see fellow NZ doing one of this vids! Keep it up man! subscribed
😂😂 churr loved the asain dude speaking Maori HAHA mad respect
This is one of the best videos ever😍😍that fulla is awesome and love how he interacts with everyone ka pai👏🏻💯
Awesome video. Too funny at the end when chinese guy speaks maori back. Love it. Well done guys.
This was so wholesome it made me tear up! Thanks Fullaz!
Thanks for making the effort to bridge the language barrier. It's well known that the Chinese language is difficult to learn so when someone speaks it well that means a lot to people.
Haha Bro this was Gold. I'm another Mandarin Speaking Kiwi - Probably could pass half of HSK 4. Self taught though ^.^ Love to hear you throwing out the horse horse tiger tiger, you really milk that one!! Jiu shi Ma ma HU HU de!! They love it aye. Keep up the posts, this was entertaining. Support from Tauranga!
Kia ora ma bro you just killed it! You guys have a nice day.
Watching these makes me laugh but also love all people to be able to speak another language and see the people smile and comment on it is awesome! We need more of this in the world, far now I wish my Tongan was a lot better lol
