I have always hated inversed LCDs but this one totally redeemed itself.. its so sharp n crisp and the larger fonts certainly helped. To be honest, for its tiny B&W display and it's sole running-only fitness tracking, $400 seems a bit steep. I then realised that the big "2nd bezel" is actually a solar panel. One thing which mitigates its shortcomings is its great battery life and the fact that for a casual fitness buff like me it's functions & features are perfectly adequate.
Really pleased to see you review this great addition to the great G-Shock range. Fantastic insight as always. Trying to get my hands on one also so I can put a review on my channel. Cheers as always.
i replaced a galaxy gearsport with this one, one thing i dont miss is having to daily charge the watch! Besides that, I dont miss any of the things i had on my gearsport because it has preety much all of the functions, besides its a tough beast!
Loved this when I first had it at launch but was pretty annoyed at the number of issues I came across. Primary issue was the sensitivity of the step counter. I walked a measured 1000 steps with this watch, a Garmin vivoactive3 and a Samsunsung galaxy watch. Garmin reported just under at 980 steps, the galaxy watch showed around 1500.. the G showed over 20,000!! Other problems include the heart rate sensor not reading at random intervals despite being set to 24/7. Then there was the notifications with text so small it was painful to read and a ridiculous number of button presses needed to read them... As Casio had released no new firmware in the first month I returned it and bought a fénix 5x , it may not be solar but it lasts nearly 2 weeks between charges and it has a sapphire crystal display. Last I heard from Casio was that they were aware of those issues and were looking into it...
@@jimherold7827 simple answer, no. The app has gotten more stable but nothing has gotten better about the problems (notifications, etc). Basically Gshock advertising was at fault saying this was a smart watch and handled WORKOUTS. The only activity it tracks is running. That's it. Notifications are awful and not useful.
subscribed your channel today as I saw your videos for the first time today. love your enthusiasm about gshock. love the most about your detailed examination inside the watch.
They gotta do something about these notification thing. It's nice that it's there, but it takes so much damn time and button presses to get there. I hope that they remove these function entirely unless they come up with easier navigation, and focus on the battery life instead.
@@rb2112 After using the GBD-H1000 and the Rangeman GPR-B1000 I have to say that the scroll wheel is much faster than simply pressing one button after the other. It feels better too

Power from sunlight and USB cable charge the same battery; thus, you can go with either one. It’s just the charging time that differs. If you don't use GPS and HR solar power will keep your watch charged and happy.
1 entire year in saving mode, 16 continous hrm+gps use, and its solar powered, all you need to do is let it rest 10 mins in the sunlight every morning tops for a full battery, the usb cable is literally optional from how good it retains its charge.

I also notice that it is not as sensitive to light source, unlike every Master Of G models I've used before. Like I said in the video, don't fully rely on it. I'll treat it as for emergency uses only while outdoor hiking/trekking, etc.
I have mine since release in USA. Only charged twice once when I got the watch and another to top off. I have used 6 days/week using GPS for an hour each day walking. I have been impressed with duration of battery. I do not use HR constant only while walking/running outside with GPS. Also do not use notifications for email, calls, etc. That is what my phone is for. Impressed with the watch needing minimal corded charge. When indoors I place under a lamp which is on anyway.

I know it takes time to learn many of those features, but it sounds like alot of complicated functions. I am wondering if you think that it is worth getting &/or for a basic watch / collection for those features, functions, time & effort to learn, along with the price? And if you don't run or anything like that? Similarly, I had bought one of those other G-Squad watches with the neg display and reddish bezel couple years ago... I didn't think I would use the features and couldn't read display, so sent it back.

My GBD-H1000-4JR still haven't arrive yet from Tokyo... arghhh.
Patience. It'll be there soon enough and you're gonna like it!

Hey, probably a weird question;
When you mention the watch's lifespan with the battery is 1-year is it possible to replace the battery to continue the watch's life?
He means a solar charge for up to one year . Some have had the same battery for 5 to 10 years since it solar charge
@@richardjames6623 Dang that’s awesome, I went out & bought the watch this morning too!
@@TinnCup congrats ! I’m grabbing one tomorrow as well. Was looking at the Garmins but not sure about the reliability and maybe to much of a smart watch type
@@richardjames6623 I can definitely recommend the GBD-H1000 after my first day of use, it is larger then a GX56 but once you get use to it’s size it’s very enjoyable. It’s my first ever smartwatch myself.
@@TinnCup Awesome , so glad you like it. Your giving me the incentive to get one. I’ve been researching watches for the last 2 weeks. I use to wear a watch all the time and had a small assortment. But once they all died over the years I got lazy and figured that’s what my iPhone is for. Looking forward to ordering one tomorrow. You get the all black one ?
Will the watch work with an app like Strava?
The only hate with this watch is need to recharge by wire
You could use the solar panel though. Technically wireless charging.
can u review DW6900PL9 please 🙏🙏
which are the other gshock watches in this video?
Hello friend,
I'm a fan of your channel..needless to say, I've been wearing only G-shock since my childhood. I'm a cardiothoracic surgeon based in India and I've been waiting to own a heart rate and vO2 monitor for long. Now that's it's available on G shock.. it's best of both worlds. However as an investment, the price is a big deal for me .. before I do, I want your opinion if I can go ahead and get this or are we expecting something even better from G shock to arrive anytime soon (with all the above features and more)..?
Looking forward to your reply.
Surgeons must have really poor wages in your country if you think this has a big price.
@@MrCarpen7er hahahaa
your says BARO at the bottom but on mine it shows always arrow down even if barometer is going up.
I turned on the Baro information ON actually.
