The song has special meaning for me is I recently lost a friend frankly expect to have coffee with again but yet I know I will not. I am 60 and he was a few years younger and appeared to be in very good health. He was a man of men and excellent husband and father. I've also been an aviator for 37 plus years. The song is absolutely perfect in my opinion. John Denver is someone who will never be replaced in the music scene. he had a heart for the Earth and his fellow man that few have. He was not perfect but the world was better with him in it and now I absolutely believe heaven is the better for him being there.
He was actually so spiritual this song has such a deep meaning. I listen to it so often. Really love almost all of his songs. Wish I could have met him.
One of my favorite John Denver compositions. It is about the love for his father, the temporary nature of life, and the need for our parents as guides in this life. One of John's most poetic songs. Such a talented man. We are so lucky to have had him in our lives. "Oh why is it thus that we are here and so soon we are gone?"
It is also probably my favourite John Denver song but I always thought reference to his 'father' is a reference to God (or whatever you call him) or the universal intelligence of the Universe. As John sang 'we are one anyway, anyway we are more than we seem'.
I love that he wrote this after losing his dad. His dad was Maj John (Dutch) Deutschendorf, an Air Force bomber pilot. He flew the B-58 Hustler to a world speed record in the early 1960s.
'Though the singer is silent there still is the truth in the song.' How true. Bless you, JD. I still love and miss you and always will until we meet again.
The first time I heard this was just before he died. Strange,I had picked up a tape. My daughter got married October 10th, 1997, My dad had a heart attack just as the wedding ended. So,that night, the next few days,I spent a lot of time at the hospital. My dad had a quadruple bypass. I heard this song the first time on Oct 11th and Oct 12th John Denver died.In my case,it was a rough road with my dad, always loved him. Thanks John, that song helped me,still does.
He was a gift from God, a spirit that soars and in the words of his music, helps us to hang on to our dreams and long for peace. He touched my heart and soul from the beginning. A time where the hearts of all could reach in our inner peace and share it with those who needed it most. Thank you God for sharing such a beautiful soul to help us strive for what we need most, peace, love and harmony. John you are missed as much as you are loved. You are sharing your music far and wide and when our time comes, we will all meet again. Genuinely loved and missed.
Lovely video - watching this for the first time on October 12, 2012 - exactly 15 years after John's passing. Thank you for creating and sharing such a beautiful tribute to such a beautiful man and fellow human being.
I stumbled upon this song by John Denver and play it all the time. Can’t get enough of listening to it. If if just plain fabulous and the meaning of is a treasure. Rest In Peace John I know you are in Heaven singing for all there. 🙏🏻🌺💕🌈
That song is so sad, yet so beautiful. I was bitterly disappointed when I bought the CD version of the album that it is on, and this song was cut from it! Fortunately I still had it on the original LP. On one hand, I can see why they cut it out, since the CD was made after his death. But John wrote that for his father. And anyway, he wouldn't have wanted it to be removed. "Such a gift has been given, it can never be taken away." "He is so in my heart, he is here, he could never be gone."
Wow! What a beautiful song and a beautiful video to go with it! I listen to John Denver every day, I know this will probably sound weird, but his songs and his voice are therapeutic and relaxing…a great way to decompress. And he’s quite a cutie, too! Thank you for uploading this video, you did a phenomenal job! 😊
Cant recall when I wasnt a fan of this amazig soul glad I was there from the beginning...John Denver always lifted me up even with his sad songe because the words came from his spiritual heart.....the wording always brings a message or a lesson in harmony with the music... he wrote and sang without ego....one of the best wordsmiths in modern time....I miss him....but his music will continue to teach and heal going forward. 🙏 namaste
Has a part that sounds like his song "Autograph". "We are all one." One with each other, animals, and the planet. He has just left this dimension, never gone.
Thank you for your kind comment Cathy. Your words mean so much to me! As long as I live and breathe I will continue to share my love of John and his music! All my best to you, my friend!...Jenni :)
I would love to sing this song at the next World Fair as I have sang his songs since 1974. My daughter met him when she was 2 years old. Now I sing for my grand daughter. Loren Freeman
I'm in tears because this song was about him dying and flying that he left us WAY WAY too soon breaks my heart💔 We soooooo need him now!!! He would be 77 going on 78 in 2021 he would be 78 years old if he was still with us and who know he'd still be singing beautiful at that age 🎸🏞️🌿🦋🐞☘️🐝🌈
John died October 12, 1997, my 48th birthday. Often as i listen to this beautiful song, i cant help but think it's almost as if he saw his own death while flying. It was one of his real loves in life which i'm sure he got from his USAF pilot dad. I do believe its one of Johns very best songs. A bit heart breaking to me. Makes me very melancholy actually. I miss John every day but thankfully my ipod continues to keep him alive. Thanks John.
John has been one of the biggest inspirations, and more.... his life gives me a goal to be the very best human being I can be. His love for life, for mankind, for all that comes with life, birth, death, beauty, and the ability to fight against the darkness that threatens to overwhelm the spirit of who we can be. John actively fought to save the wilderness that is so much of the beauty in this world, he fought against nuclear proliferation and the insanity of an arms race that has left us with enough bombs to blow the world up several hundred times--- something John could not keep silent about due to his love of this world, and all the humanity in it. The song "it's About Time" has one of my favorite lines of any song, ever "there is a man who is my brother, even though I don't know his name; I know his home and family because i know we feel the same. It hurts me when he's hungry or when his children cry, I am too am a father, and that little one is mine...." which leads into the chorus of how it is time we find out we are all in this together, it is all of us or none..... I honor this man, and every day of my life, I am a better human being by what he taught me-- through his love, through his admiration for wilderness and for life, for beauty. Thank you for sharing your feelings on this.... I don't know if you saw the documentary that John finished filming just two or three weeks before he passed. It was of he, and his two children taking a trip down the Colorado River, through the grand Canyon. The world is, and will forever will be a better place, because he lived. I know my life is.
Agreed. Loved this song long before his accident and cried with it in retrospect. Beautiful heart, talent, voice and song. 1 in a million voice and spirit.
Really miss you John Denver! Especially during life's most difficult times. I often find myself turning to your music for comfort and healing. Gone Too Soon....Never Forgotten! If heaven has music...I can't wait to hear your masterpiece!
He took his last flight home, yet we are never alone, he touches us to aspire to his vision and prayer, yes prayer. We pick up his life challeges for the planet and Humanity. Thank you John, our inspiration. A lovely and very special song.Thank you for sharing it.
I too, was very close to my father, and I see him in my dreams, on the wing...;) JD was a friend, in addition to a performer, and he is still missed terribly. I'll keep singing his songs as long as I'm able!
I have never heard John sing this song one of his best there is so much love and compassion in his voice and the pictures of him are so beautiful you can see and feel the love in his eyes it made me cry listening to it and looking at his beautiful loving face god bless you and God love you as I do Paula xxxxxxxxxx
I agree, it is sad, but so, so beautiful at the same time. It is so amazing how his words can reach the depths of a person's soul. I truly believe his words, his songs came from his heart and spoke directly to ours. Thank you for all of your lovely comments on my videos. Have a wonderful day...Jenni :)
Thank you for sharing your videos with everyone. Yes his songs reach us down deep in our hearts. He was a wonderful person and singer. I lost my husband September 19, 2015 and one of the songs I chose to be played at his Celebration of Life service was “For You” and also “A song for all lovers”. I have always loved to hear his songs. Thank you again for sharing his music with everyone. Take care and be safe everyone. 🥰💕🌺🌈
You are right. John wrote most of his songs. They came from his heart ❤️ and they do reach the depths of a persons souls. He was truly a treasure that is so very much missed but he left us all his songs. I listen to him all the time. The one song that I have come to love is “For You”. I had it played at my husbands Celebration of Life service. It will be six years ago that I lost my husband and I think of my husband all the time and when I hear this song it does bring a tear to my eyes at times. Thank you for the lovely things you wrote. Take care and be safe. 💕🌺🌈
I'm 69 and this is the first time I ever head this piece, charming simply charming and truly John Denver. I miss him. I didn't always agree with him, but I sure did like his music.
Oh my goodness how I miss fine gentlemen even today. I lost my daughter just 6 months ago and this song really speaks to my soul and to the devastating loss. As he says gracefully although the singer is silent there is truth in his song.
I had this song and "Tenderly Calling" played at my husband's funeral on Dec. 31, 2013. Both were so perfect. My husband was a retired Baptist minister. Not a dry eye in the church. I also used "For You" because it was our love story.
what a wonderful use of words in any of his songs I miss John more each day.He treated me golden when we were together, then I got to know the real John.
I love this guy, I was a geek, I listened to his music as a teen. Sang some of his songs as lullabies to my daughters. My life would not have been the same without him. Thank You, John. May you be flying and playing your music forever
"Though the singer be silent, there still is the truth of the song. (in the song)" Thanks John Denver for sharing all your songs with us. They will continue on always! W😅e sure do miss having you with us, though. 💔
I was privileged to meet him a few months before he died. It took some doing, but I slipped into a meet and greet for fan club "members only" after a Saratoga Springs concert. He was gracious and relaxed but declined to sign any autographs suggesting that the songs he had just sung were just that. It was probably one of the highest highlights of my life. Silly, but true. (He did actually sign and inscribe a note to me on a song book that I had sent backstage before the concert) The photo taken with my camera by another fan of him and I with that songbook are priceless. He will never be forgotten. .
Thanks for posting this. I believe it is one of JD's best, and there are so many. His music takes me away, makes "feel". He was a one in a million artist. So compassionate, so full of spirit. I miss him and his music.
I am so amazed. He was such a prolific writer, I forget about some of his songs. I'll hear one and think "Oh yeah! I remember that one.". I haven't heard this in a very long time. Thanks so much for posting and the lovely video.
Who here is watching "Take Me Home: The John Denver Story"? This is what a human idol should be. We quickly worship meaningless actors, musicians, etc. John is worthy of our fellowship and honor. What a beautiful soul!
Again, thank you so much for your wonderful comments. I too feel that my father is with me always...always there on the wing. :) And John will always be with us as well. Have a great night! Jenni
Several years ago at the car wash I work, one of my customers had a sticker on her car that said "Though the singer is silent, there is still the truth of this song". I told her I knew it was in reference to John Denver's song Wings Of A Dream. She was very impressed I knew the reference.
Gone way too soon😢 his songs have such meaning and his voice was so soothing..no one can sing his songs the way he did. He is loved and remembered forever
Absolutely beautiful, jencom. Thank you for helping to keep John's spirit, alive. Your videos, have brought much joy and healing, into my life. There will never be another, like John.
Thanks for sharing this with us Jenni. John was such a wonderful soul. Such a devine voice and such awesome smile. Of course John was very handsome too.
That and all of John Denver's songs speak to the soul and the spirit of mankind. It stirs good feelings and emotions of all the people who have a humanitarian spirit; the songs are of a spiritual nature. John Denver gave people a uplifting with a message for peace. He connected with your heart, he tried through his music to inspire people to think about the reality of life and how you and I could change the world for the betterment of ourselves and all of mankind. The singer is silent now but there still is the truth of his songs. He sent out beautiful messages for us to think about. With his passing I wonder where is social conciousness today. Where is the empathy for all our fellow travelers in this life?? Did anyone grasp the meanings/messages of the songs?? We are spiritual beings here on this earth to help fulfill each other. The. Music of today is bringing the world down:the lyrics of the songs are corrupting the minds of the people . There's no uplifting lyrics. It is pitifully what today's music is telling the people, the results can be seen in how men are treating each other. Where are the humanitarians??? .
Ai grew up with the sight and. Sounds of John Denver. To me he is the greatest singer songwriter of the lot He was also years ahead of his tome time when he talked about The earth etc etc. He was born a few years after me and we had a similar view about life and how big changes must be made on earth. I still listen to his music today and was saddened more than most m by his death at just fifty three years old John Denver and his music will never die. From Dave magic in the algarve region of Portugal,
Beautiful Tribute to John Denver! Nature lover, Musician, Singer, Songwriter, advocate for the environment and world peace, friend, & much more. His legacy with his music lives on -- fortunately we can to hear his music today on this Utube platform & so many formats & internet platforms. I believe he made over 500 song recordings, plus was in tv specials & movies. He certainly applied his talents and gave them to the world throughout his career and life. Let the Legends live on :)
This the Reaper of lost souls, not he woman (my wife usually comments) I really enjoyed this song and pictures of JD. this a really beautiful song. Thx for placing it on tube for all us JD fans to listen to.
Absolutely beautiful tribute to John! I'm so thankful I was able to see him in concert a number of times and the great opportunity to meet him and speak with him. Went to the place we lost John in Pacific Grove last summer. It was emotional but what a beautiful place.
I love this song as well as all of his songs really, because we were all blessed with hearing that beautiful voice sharing with us a reflection of his experiences in this life. I miss him always! Rod S.
This is a wonderful song and great photos. Thank you so much for posting it. I've always loved John Denver's music, ever since I first heard him as a teenager back in the '60s. When I learned to play the guitar, his music was mostly what I'd sing and play. Through the years I was lucky enough to attend a few of his concerts, the last one being his Higher Ground/Australia tour back in the late '80s or early '90s. As crazy as things have gotten in this country in the last few months, I have to keep listening to his music and telling myself that there are still a lot of people in this world that care about humanity and equality and the environment, and that know the meaning of "we're all in this together," even though sometimes it seems that things have just gone crazy. His music keeps my head together in a lot of ways, don't know what I'd do without it. Thanks again for posting.
What a beautiful and moving song. Thank you for assembling it with images of John. So many of his songs touch me deeply as he had such spiritual depth.
Thank you for this. I don't know why there are things that pop into my mind for seemingly no reason, although we all should believe there is a reason and purpose, thus the lyrics of this song. I was just remembering the day he died and his love for flight. Not one of his most popular or published songs, although I believe it should be. Just a BRILLIANT artist! Just so happened that I know someone who was a volunteer test pilot who had flown the same model plane a few days prior and had also had similar difficulties. Of course, if you have that type of spirit you are aware of the possible scenarios. Anyway, I thank you for this video and am Very grateful to have been alive during his lifetime as well!
Indeed, John Denver had a phenominal stage presence while demonstrating an attitude of humility; his music creates a deep spiritual connection within me; and the lyrics of On the Wings of A Dream confirmed his spirituality with an almost prophetic sense of his own mortality; today, 13.07.2020 is the first time that I have heard this song and seen the video: that song coupled with those photos were the perfect selection for an excellent tribute to a remarkable personality! In 1977 I hired a local professional folk singer with guitar to sing John D's "Annie's Song" at my Wedding Ceremony; such was/ is my love and affection for John Denver and his God-given gifts/ talents which he used to bless the world! I am grateful that John was extremely generous to share himself with all us so that "He is so in my heart He is here he could never be gone Though the singer is silent There still is the truth of the song In the song" Jenni, Thank you very much for your labour of love in compiling this Tribute to John Denver - he would always be remembered! God speed!
Absolutely beautiful song, and wonderful slide show vid... thank you so much for posting... what a gift he was - we could use his words and music now....
Nobody could understand the impact of John Denver other than those in our generation.
The song has special meaning for me is I recently lost a friend frankly expect to have coffee with again but yet I know I will not. I love him always! It’s been decade since I had the pleasure of hearing him.
He was actually so spiritual this song has such a deep meaning. I listen to it so often. Really love almost all of his songs. Wish I could have met him.

JD you were one of a kind. You are so very missed. RIP.
Though the singer is silent there still is the truth in the song. Beautiful! one of John's very best compositions.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts here, he left us memorable and unforgettable music. Sleep on Dad🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼❤❤❤❤❤🙏🏼
It is also probably my favourite John Denver song but I always thought reference to his 'father' is a reference to God (or whatever you call him) or the universal intelligence of the Universe. As John sang 'we are one anyway, anyway we are more than we seem'.

He lived such a full live and left the most. Beautiful memories. He was a legend
I sang this for my Dad, just about three weeks before he died....I miss him greatly.

He will never be forgotten. .
Love his music gone to soon
He is so in my heart, he is here, he could never be gone
Though the singer is silent, there still is the truth of the song.
Oh God bless his beautiful soul. How we miss him but his legacy lives on in our hearts 💕
I'm so glad for UA-cam and to be able to listen to this wonderful man's beautiful voice whenever I need to.
Thanks for posting this. I believe it is one of JD's best, and there are so many. His music takes me away, makes "feel". He was a one in a million artist. So compassionate, so full of spirit. I miss him and his music.
Just found this song. Could cry listening to it. What a wonderful man he was,who could write songs as beautiful as this.
A wonderful song and voice. Leaves me in tears. Miss you John.
I am so amazed. He was such a prolific writer, I forget about some of his songs. I'll hear one and think "Oh yeah! I remember that one.". I haven't heard this in a very long time. Thanks so much for posting and the lovely video.
Thank you for your lovely comment, Adrienne. Have a great day! :)
Who here is watching "Take Me Home: The John Denver Story"? This is what a human idol should be. We quickly worship meaningless actors, musicians, etc. John is worthy of our fellowship and honor. What a beautiful soul!
John's beautiful song and meaningful words inspire and uplift all those seeking the light.
Wonderful!
Tony
Happy birthday. I listen to you every day. Miss the best
One of John’s most spiritual songs.

John Denver is God's Gift to Us We love anx miss you JD, thank you for your legacy❤
thank you for posting this song. I have searched through a many lonely night to find it.

So I listen to the voices inside me for I know they are there just to guide me ……….just WOW

Being a John Denver, l was surprised that I had never heard this beautiful melody. It was played at a mate's funeral and was embraced by all.
Absolutely beautiful tribute to John! I'm so thankful I was able to see him in concert a number of times and the great opportunity to meet him and speak with him. Went to the place we lost John in Pacific Grove last summer. It was emotional but what a beautiful place.
Hauntingly Beautiful. Sad & somewhat telling.
R.I.P. 🕊🥀🕊

You're very welcome, and thank you for your lovely comment. I wholeheartedly agree with you.
I miss him a lot .. I wish he was still here, his songs spoke to me.... and still do. Barry Mulcahy
What a beautiful and moving song. Thank you for assembling it with images of John. So many of his songs touch me deeply as he had such spiritual depth.
Absolutely wonderful. Thank you. Miss his music soo much.
Anyway, I thank you for this video and am Very grateful to have been alive during his lifetime as well!
how the moment at hand is the only thing we really own! :)
God speed!
