Tenderly Calling - John Denver

- This song by the late John Denver can be found on his "Different Directions" album This is the time of year that our hearts turn home. Jesus is calling us to Himself. Make your heart His home and find your home in Him.
The lyrics:
Home, come on home
Ye who are weary come home
Softly and tenderly calling
Home, come on home
Sometimes when Im feeling lonesome
And no one on earth seems to care
Im all by myself in the darkness
With no one and nothing to share
Just when it feels like its hopeless
And Ill never make it alone
I hear the voices of angels
Tenderly calling me home
Home, come on home
Ye who are weary come home
Softly and tenderly calling
Home, come on home
I try to keep it together
I never let on that Im scared
Still sometimes I fall to pieces
Scattered and lost everywhere
Just when it feels like theres no one
To mend all my broken down dreams
I hear a voice deep inside me
Tenderly calling to me
Home, come on home
Ye who are weary come home
Softly and tenderly calling
Home, come on home
So dont be afraid of the darkness
And dont run away from the storm
Stand up and face your reflection
The feelings you try to ignore
After the tempest is over
Youve let yourself come on through
Youll hear a voice in the silence
Tenderly calling to you
Home, come on home
Ye who are weary come home
Softly and tenderly calling
Home, come on home
Several yrs. ago, I was wondering if John had made it to Heaven. That night , I had a vivid dream about him and saw him in a very real way. YES.. HE'S WITH GOD OUR FATHER ..PRAISED BE JESUS !
Amen to that brother God bless you my friend the name of Jesus is the sweetest name I know
I so love all of John Denver's music, it broke my heart when he died, John's music will live on forever, this song is so beautiful.
Shirley Jennings Thank you.
My family and I played this at our mother's funeral. She loved this song. She loved John Denver and I hope he is up there with her singing this to her every Sunday.
At least she had a funeral.
@@lianecornils6603 And just what does that mean? Of course we gave our beloved mother a funeral!!! Did you think we just put her in a trash bag and set it curbside? I don't understand this and I don't appreciate it either.
A friend of ours sang this song at my mother's funeral, as well. Since Aliane... has not replied, guess we'll never know for sure why they said that. But do you suppose perhaps Aliane lost a loved one to Covid, at the height of the Pandemic? You know in many places funerals were not allowed for quite a few months? And, on top, of their loved one dying all alone with no family, in a hospital, the families also weren't allowed to gather to hold a funeral. I don't know, but perhaps that's that person meant?
@@charlotte50224 Then they should explain in FULL what they meant. I still grieve over the loss of my mother and always will. She had a beautiful send off. If they lost someone that way, I extend my heartiest sympathies but would not respond the way they did.
@@awriter4theman Yes, I lost my mom in 2913, and I know what you mean! We never stop missing them! 😥
Sometimes it seems to me that songs are just there in the air, created directly by God and in the wait for someone capable of deciphering it. This is in my opinion the case of all John Denver's enlightened music: a gift of God to His sons through the voice of one of His Angels.
This is actually almost exactly the way JD described how he writes songs...
Amen!
I SO hope so; I can't imagine eternity without him, or anyone with his love for creation and the creatures not totally in love with the Creator.
I haven't already put in my request in prayer for my 1st day, so to speak, over there. After reuniting with loved ones, , there sure better be a John Denver concert that night.! It wouldn't be Heaven without it!!
John lives in our hearts...always❤
Amen
I just heard this song today and it stopped me in my tracks , I haven't heard it for a while , I miss you. This world was a better place with you in it. You cared about our world and you did a lot to help us all make it a better place. We miss you terribly, xox
I think this one of the most beautiful songs John ever sang! I wish he had recorded more gospel music.I have it already that this and songs of John played at my wake! I think GOD gave John close to an angels voice.Rest in PEACE you are missed So Much!
John Denver has been my mental health resource since I first heard “Take MeHome, Country Roads on the radio in the summer after I was recorded, about 1967 😍🌈❤️❗️S
Aw
Him 6 times in concert, and bought all of his recordings and have met almost all of his great background musicians, and those song writers whose songs John played.
Robert Jackson Thank you.
This is a very hard song to listen to for me, I just lost my dad last summer six days before his 82nd birthday. He was VERY sick for the last four months of his life, and it was very hard for me to hell him "It's okay, if you're ready to go and be with Mom..." but he is in a much better place than we are, this is a beautiful song and sung by a great man who I knew for many many years, my mom,dad and John are very missed by me and my family everyday.
Another very beautiful song of John Denver. Miss him a lot, RIP JD !!#
I just had this song played at my husband's funeral on Dec. 31, 2013. Perfect. My husband was a retired Baptist minister. Not a dry eye in the church.
It was a lovely song choice. I am sorry for your loss.
If only i had known this wonderful song when my father suddenly passed away Dec,20,2012....This song gives both hope and reassurance to those who have lost a loved one that's gone on before them.
I grew up in churches that sang this song, and although everyone have their own belief about Christianity, I'm so glad he recorded this gospel song. I really believe John is a very spiritual man.
Dianna P. Wood Thank you for commenting.
Dianna P. Wood This was the theme song to the movie "A Trip To Bountiful" in which lead actress Geraldine Page won an Academy Award for Best Actress!!! The song in the movie is sung by a woman!!! Denver heard the song and recorded it. Another song the Denver heard, liked and recorded was "City Of New Orleans" which Arlo Guthrie heard and recorded. Denver song sold nothing - Guthries sold 5 million copies - and they are almost exactly the same!!!!!!!!! Go figure!!!!!!!!
Jeff Schwartz Actually John rewrote the hymn, "Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling" with this song. The lyrics are different but both are lovely.
There is only one true Christianity though. Everyone has their belief but there is only one truth only one reality which can be found in the Bible itself. If your Christianity doesn't match up then it isn't the true one.
Thank you for commenting. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.
I have grown up with John Denver' music, but i have never heard this song. thank you.
This is recorded on the "Different Directions" album by John.
Same!
"So don't be afraid of the darkness, And don't run away from the storm, stand up and face your reflection, the feeling you try to ignore..." These words really speak to me. John denver's music really is an inspiration and I believe his spirit lives on through his songs. 💖 💖
+rubythesheep2 Thank you for your comment.
You are so right! John was an inspiration to so many of us all throughout his life. I have all of his music and listen to him often. Yes, he is so missed by so many of us but I know where he is and hope to one day meet him there along with my husband who loved John's music too.
Amen
JD is the voice of an Angel
dlanor aktozczs Yes he does.

Whoever picked the pictures for this video did a marvelous job!

@@beanscot have to agree, the balance of the photography and John's vocal portrayal make a lovely marriage. John will always live in our hearts!❤.....Scouser.
Have to agree. The photography compliments John's vocal portrayal of such a captivating song. Well balanced. John lives on in our hearts👍Scouser!

Thank you.
Love this and will always love John. I miss him daily.
+Karen Lucking You're welcome and thank you for your comment.
It's true that I don't know the intent of the song writers' heart, but it also speaks to me as a Christian. Angels calling me home will always mean Heaven to me. It also has strong ties to the hymn, "Softly and Tenderly." I do appreciate your comment.
With so many different storm clouds gathering on the horizon, humanity desperately needs to experience divine inspiration such as this. Thank you for placing your vision here, in this public forum... it is a blessing to all who find it.
So very beautiful...
f arzilli...I have to agree with you. I have listened to his music since 1971, to many of the same songs / cd's over and over. But there are days when the spirituality woven into his songs jumps out a bit more strongly than in the past when I heard the same song...just an amazing artist and amazing songs!
Thanks for posting such a beautiful video beanscot!
This is very similar to a song called Softly, Tenderly Jesus is Calling. That song can be heard at the beginning of the movie called Trip to Bountiful. Both beautiful songs with a timeless message....
Thank you for answering.I KNOW he knows our Hearts! And if we all would live by that,This WORLD would BE a MUCH BETTER! And I am PROUD to be of a MAN who DID! God BLESS you and FAMILY!
Love you and miss you JD!
John will forever be missed. His work, ended so abruptly. Our Planet, misses him dearly, now. It is up to us to carry on with his work to help save Mother Earth.
Thank you.
Imm tearing up now. John has an amazing voice, and God speaks through him. He stated that God gives him the songs,he is just the vehicle
he is a national treasure-his music will live forever
2445jones Yes, thank you.
Wonderful! I listen to this song as often as I can.
If ever there was a male angel, John Denver sings like one.
Pat Wilson Yes, he does.
The first time I heard the song my old dog had just passed away and the pictures with the dogs by their owners sides crushed me. I cried for days after hearing this song and seeing the beautiful pictures in the videos Psalms 56 verse 8 says put my tears into thy bottle or they not in thy book if God sees the sparrow that falls to the ground and knows the hair of our head is numbered he surely counts our tears as well. What a beautiful song and a beautiful video the pictures were very moving I cried as I'm sure many did when John was killed. May God bless each and everyone
Thank you.
You are most welcome sir
Hi thank you for posting this. I had been praying for John since I became a Christian in 1978 because his music was what brought me through hard times in my life. I actually did pray for him the day before he died. I know that God does answer prayer and I also know that I am not the only one who was praying for him. I cannot wait to see him and so many when I leave this world behind and fly away. God bless... Psalm 16:11
I never knew. I believe as John did...I do not believe in religions...I believe in Jesus and know there is a God....a higher power
Vicki Larson Jesus is who we celebrate this weekend.
Vicki Larson I think that is called being spiritual but not religious. Well, if you look at it completely honest - Jesus was spiritual - but not religious!!!!!!! You're in good company!!!!!!!!
Jesus is God. And He died for all our sins. Jn 3:16
Absolutely beautiful as all of John's music is. I have played it over and over as it makes me feel so good. Thanks for putting it where we all can share it.
+Jeannie H You're welcome!
amen.....still listening every day 7/6/19
Wow, wow, wow, Love this.
I had a friend, a long time ago, with whom I finally found a home I'd long been seeking. Even though she's gone now, I still hear her voice, softly and tenderly calling me home. I wish I could answer...
Emmett Niles We all go home one day.
thank you for this. john denver has always been a favorite and this song is something i need these days. amazing lyrics, the genius of the musical arrangement lulls us to peacefulness.
Very true. You could describe me as a religious or a spiritual person. I'm a follower of Jesus.
John Denver had a way with music.... Fortunately for us, we were blessed to listen to it. Thank you for the upload! :)
No better John Denver song! God was certainly with him when he recorded this song.
John you are never forgotten i love your music this song is so beautiful

Beautiful, I miss him so much
Yes, he is missed.
God Bless You John Denver...…..RIP my friend....12/23/19
Mon Dieu.... Magnifique composition Merci !
Angélique Nomade You’re welcome!
I have in the past wonder if John could ever do any gospel songs/albums... I can only wish there were more.
One thing though is we need to find ways to witness to those who don't think the church is the answer when all we can do is sing a song that nudges them to find that answer in Christ.
Thank you for your comment.
John Denver was not a religious man - he said this MANY times!!! He said he did believe in God - as well as Jesus - just not any specific version of any specific church - he said he was spiritual - not religious!!!!! He also said his music was NOT Country/Western - it was simply Western!!!!
He was one of the lucky ones - he was born with a "pitch perfect" voice - he couldn't hit a sour note if he tried!! (You cannot develop a pitch perfect voice - you are either born with one or you will never have one!!! And if you are born with one - you can only put a shine on it!!! A "pitch perfect" voice is when your mouth, teeth, throat, lungs, tongue and voice box are all perfectly aligned - and they make a dentist VERY nervous - one small mistake and it is gone forever!!!!!!!!!;-)
John Denver once turned an RCA studio piano using only his voice!!!! Later that day - it was tuned by the RCA normal professional piano tuner - with an oscilicope and an expensive set of tuning forks - and every note on the piano was perfectly tuned!!! "Pitch perfect" voices are extremely rare - about 1 person in every 250,000,000 people world wide have a "pitch perfect" voice - and not all people that have "pitch perfect" voices are singers!!! "Pitch perfect" voices draw the human ear to the voice - we humans simply love to hear a pitch perfect voice talk or sing (we ALWAYS listen - as we are drawn to the voice) - Elvis Presley, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby and Beverly Sills also had pitch perfect voices!!!! But be very careful - Adolph Hitler had a pitch perfect voice - and so does Justin Beiber - so he's gonna be around for a while!!!!!
I hope i get to meet him in heaven one day.. all the best singers are in heaven together ❤ 💕 lost to many, to soon 🙏
Yes, thank you.
most beautiful video and song and scenes ....love the front porch scene especially ...thank you for making and posting this

Jesus is calling..🎶 tenderly calling sinners come home🎶🎶
Thanks!
A extraordinarily profound thought.
Chorus: Home, come on home
Ye who are weary come home
Softly and tenderly calling
Home, come on home
Sometimes when I'm feeling lonesome
And no one on earth seems to care
I'm all by myself in the darkness
With no one and nothing to share
Just when it feels like it's hopeless
And I'll never make it alone
I hear the voices of angels
Tenderly calling me home
Chorus
I try to keep it together
I never let on that I'm scared
Still sometimes I fall to pieces
Scattered and lost everywhere
Just when it feels like there's no one
To mend all my broken down dreams
I hear a voice deep inside me
Tenderly calling to me
Chorus
So don't be afraid of the darkness
And don't run away from the storm
Stand up and face your reflection
The feelings you try to ignore
After the tempest is over
You've let yourself come on through
You'll hear a voice in the silence
Tenderly calling to you
Chorus
Thank you.

Mark 12:30 “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.”
Psalms 104:33 “I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.”
Luke 21:25-31 "And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.
Thank you. God’s Word is always appreciated.

J'en pleure.....
Angélique Nomade Thank you.
Lovely video. And it goes to show how songs can be interpreted so many ways. I've never taken the song to me what it meant to you. To me it's when a soul is tired and is ready to die and cross to the other side/Heaven. And death is nothing to fear. It's meant that to me since the day he released it.
Of course, all religions don't accept Jesus. I believe he existed as a Jewish rabbi and was a very learned man. But I truly believe with my heart every human being is on the same path to the same place. Some of us just take different roads to get there. And I refuse to believe a benevolent G-d would turn any righteous soul away because of the family and faith they were born into.
I know Jesus as my Lord and Savior, the One who died that I might live. It’s His righteousness that saves me, not my own.
John himself rejected organized religion but was very spiritual. The same can be said for Abraham Lincoln. He also never mentioned anything more than our Heavenly Father but ascribed the ultimate power to Him.
ssoftly tenderly jesus +is calling
This touched me when I needed it most
I'm glad. Thank you.
Precious John Denver...Love..Love..Love
