Outside edge was a good comedy, plus it has Timothy Spall, always a sign of class👌👌
Outside Edge was very good. Josie Lawrence played it flirty to great effect
Oh you would wouldn't you?
@7:07 is that Alan Partridge's Lynn? She looks so different.
Yes it is! Well spotted
Outside Edge - definitely remembered that one!
Ade Edmondson and Richard Briars is a weird combination, all I can think of is Vyvyan’s meltdown at The Good Life in a ‘The Young Ones’ episode.
Richard Briers recalls it in an interview and was very impressed with Vyv/Ade's description of him as Richard "Sugar coated snot" Briers
Bloody bloody bloody bloody
Exactly how I feel when I see the good life.
Weird thing is, I like both The Young Ones and The Good Life. :/
The Grange Hill parody was great as well
Richard Briers has an amazing asmr voice
I liked Mr Don and Mr George they were brilliant characters in the sketch show “Absolutely” and I wish they had made more series of this,😊
Sorry is a massively underrated sitcom
I agree, loved it! I still say "Language Timothy" when someone swears!!
The Alan Clark is the famously randy Tory minister and it refers to his affair with a married woman and her two daughters.
Couple more 80s ones for you as well; A Kind of Living with Richard Griffiths and yes, Carla Lane again with The Last Song starring Geoffrey Palmer
Was A Kind of Living the one with Frances de la Tour (as Griffith's wife?) and Tim Healy (as his wastrel friend)?
7:15 I don't remember the name but I do remember the set. I was a big fan of Gary Olsen, sadly he left us too soon.
Outside edge was brilliant.
I loved Mr Don and Mr george
Not only do I remember Mr Don and Mr George, I have the full series! Let's see the rest...
*prominently displays a No Wasps sign*
Walks backwards and forwards scratching his chin until he's directly under the lightbulb, which then turns on when he has an idea...
Just remembered another 90s one; The Glam Metal Detectives
That probably counts as a sketch show rather than a sitcom
Everybody up....
Outside Edge I remember really well because of Josie Lawrence. I used to like her on Whose line is it anyway?
Class Act is also one we used to watch quite regularly and remember being quite decent. But yes, definitely more of a comedy drama. Only lasted a couple of series though if I remember correctly.
Alan Clark had an affair in South Africa with a wife and daughter. He had a thing for young girls as well, he married his wife when she was 16 and he was 30.
As famously chronicled in his diaries, Clark had an affair with a judge's virgin daughters Josephine Harkness and her sister Alison and their mother Valerie. Clark referred to the three as 'the coven'. He was the Tory shagger that Boris Johnson wishes he could be. Though Clark was literate. John Hurt played him on TV.
If You See God Tell Him is an underrated gem. Written by David (One Foot in the Grave) Renwick and Andrew (2Point4 Children) Marshall (actually he was also responsible for Health & Efficiency!) it's a very dark satire on the ethics of advertising and held the record for the most complained about BBC program ever for a while. I think it got beaten by One Foot in the Grave a couple of years later.
Alan Clark was a Tory Cabinet Minister in Thatcher's. Government who had affairs with a Mother and two daughters, hence the reference.
Good to see Mr Don and Mr George here. Still no wasps, hopefully.
And Outside Edge was indeed funny. One of those comedies without the sound of laughter programmes.
'Outside Edge' was really good. Stellar acting and script. Think Josie Lawrence is a very under rated actress and comedienne.
love Mr Don and Mr George an ignored classic, so its cool to see someone other than me liked it, then? and liked it now
I only know it because my parents were fans.
@@minicle426 ok, now i feel very old tee hee, but it is a very funny show
It looks like No Worries was a one-off pilot shown as part of a series called ‘Comic Timing’. The Mrs Merton pilot also originated from this show according to IMDB, but I can’t find any footage of any of the episodes.
I certainly didn't forget about Outside Edge, but then I am a massive cricket fan.
Outside Edge was great. Anyone remember Love on a Branch Line?
My American friend recommended Outside Edge to me, I thought it was better than average. Apparently they showed it on BBC America, if that’s any quality indicator…
Mr Don and Mr George was hilarious. One of my favourite comedies at the time.
I'm a massive fan of Absolutely, even now, and not sure how or why so many C4 comedies are so unknown (phone shop, nightingales, absolutely for example) but somehow I missed Mr Don and Mr George.
Absolutely was brilliant just a shame they never made more of Mr Don and Mr George
Yeah I agree, lots of great comedies from Channel 4 that get overlooked. Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace is another comes to mind. Definitely worth checking out Mr Don and Mr George if you can find it anywhere.
Just looked and Mr Don and Mr George is available to stream on All 4 for free with ads!
Maggie Kirkpatrick is a PROPER legend. So many actors and actresses seem to play characters who are just their own persona with a few quirks thrown in. But Maggie nailed a character that is so far removed from her own self that it's spell binding to watch her in PCBH.
Roberts Dows at 9.50. Terribly underrated actor.
"Desmonds". Dominic Keating later starred in "Enterprise" as Lt. Malcolm Reed, the Armoury officer. He now has a podcast called "Shuttlepod1" with Connor Trinneer (Cdr. 'Trip' Tucker, the Engineer) on the same programme as Dominic). My dad had a friend from Leicester (while in the US Army), but lived in Worcester.
Not too sure if you have covered My Good Friend? I only remember it because I had crush on Richard Pearson. Love the channel so have a like & sub!
6:20 I'm now getting to the point when I don't know if I genuinely remember the few of these I recognise (two this week) or if I just remember watching old clips of them that I've seen more recently!
I remember If You See God Tell Him, A Class Act, House of Windsor, and Outside Edge
looks like Tuppy Glossop from Jeeves and Wooster in Outside Edge
"If You See God Tell Him" if I remember right, got in lot of trouble with tabloids at the time, for being too dark.
I'm sick and tired of you telling what I remember, and what I dont - so I've subscribed, so you can tell me again next time.
Two school based sitcoms not mentioned Chalk 1997 which I think was Stephen Moffat and 1993’s Bonjour la classe with Nigel Planner.
Outside Edge was actually quite good . Lite humour but very well acted .
Robert Daws who starred in Outside edge was also in another 90's sitcom Roger roger about a taxi firm which was also written by John Sullivan of Only fools and horse fame
Have we covered 'Terry and Julian' yet? 🤔
Don and George was a cool show. The bit where one of them was trying to explain to the other one what a job is was proper funny.
Absolutely, Chewing the Fat, Still Game. Still watch them.
Got the Absolutely dvd box set! Great fun. Still Game is a sublime comedy. Methadone Mick is a hilarious character.
Hugh Laurie and Stephen Frye in a comedy (?) where Frye's chr. is a butler to Laurie's chr , "On the Bus", "Father Ted", and "The Vicar of Digby",
The Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie comedy was actually 'Jeeves and Wooster', though it wasn't strictly speaking a sitcom as it was based on the books of P G Wodehouse.
Also actor in clip of outside edege was in the royal married Amy Robbins who is sister to Kate robins . And Ted robbins
the same actor also was in a episode of birds of a feather
I remember watching Mr Don & Mr George. As a Red Dwarf fan I watched I, Lovett with Norman Lovett and MrD&G would be on straight after
Come to realise i must have not watched 1990's tv, as i don't remember any of these "comedies".
I saw every episode of "Outside Edge", loved the characters. I was also quite partial to "Class Act", don't remember any of the others.
You keep forgetting to put Next Of Kin in the list. That was a 90's sitcom too and imho, darn good as well
Yeah, I keep hearing criticisms that it had too dark a premise, but I find that the best sitcoms do have that dark element to their situation building.
@@sleepytyphlosion5660 I don't find it too dark at all
I do remember the Mark Little sitcom, his lodger(?) rented the tiny bedroom where the door hit the bed, like it was a closet really.
Mark Little was capitalising on the popularity of his stint in Neighbours
I enjoyed Health & Efficiency with Gary Olsen, a real shame he's gone. Outside Edge was more comedy drama than sitcom.
I remember Outside Edge and Mr. Don & Mr. George.
I didn't forget about them.....I was never aware of them before.
I found out about me and my girl (84-88) from this channel and ended up watching all 6 series 😅
I sort of remember health and efficiency as both the male actors in it also starred in 2 point 4 children , which I loved
As you've probably gathered by the comments, Mr Don and Mr George, with Jack Docherty before he tried to be a chat show host on the newly formed Channel 5, and Outside Edge with Roger Dawes are not obscure at all.
How much does Maggie look like Clair Balding😂
I remember Outside Edge.
It wasn't bad.
Absolutely had another sitcom pilot based on Docherty's Scots nationalist character. MacGlashin or something similar. Gordon Kennedy and Nick Hancock were in it.
I do remember "If You See God Tell Him" and "Health And Efficiency" which I think are underrated.
Also, one sitcom that I haven't seen mentioned is "Searching", which aired in 1995 on ITV - had Laura's actor from Brittas and created by Carla Lane in her final sitcom.
As a lover of comedy, 'Carla Lane in her final sitcom' is music to my ears. I never understood why she was given carte blanche at TVC. Two or three 'alleged' hits, and tons of fails.
Grossly depressing, self indulgent and self righteous person IMHO.
Ouch! One of my favourite actresses in Julia St. John (Laura in Brittas) in a Carla Lane vehicle?
I couldn't force myself to watch ANY Carla Lane garbage. Even if it was me viewing it from between the legs of a naked, bent over forwards Rachel Riley.
Have you featured on previous presentations a show called, The Happy Apple (Leslie Ash I think) and one which (I think) stared Nigel Planer as a rock star/musician in what I think was called, Rollover Beethoven?
Pretty sure they have both been featured :-))
Loved Mr Don and Mr George, although your excerpts were poor examples.
"Are you going to do it, then?"
"Better still, I'm going to do it NOW!"
"You can watch Mr Don and Mr George on All4, then?"
"You can watch Mr Don and Mr George on All4 now!"
I was 16 when Mr Don and Mr George came out and I thought it was so brilliant that I bought the rather extortionate VHS tapes.
I was a lot older and did the same. It was on All4 last time I looked.
as far as I remember, If You See God Tell Him was cancelled due to the number of complaints, I only remember the first episode being shown
I remember Outside Edge and Health & Efficiency altho, tbf, I had forgotten all about them
Mr. Don & Mr. George was absolutely fabulous. Thankfully it wasn't Absolutely Fabulous.
You almost had me this time, but outside edge came to my rescue, some real shite 💩 on that particular video 👍😉
I remember Mr. Don and Mr. George (I loved Absolutely), Health & Efficiency, The Royal House of Windsor and Outside Edge.
What we need is more frank hovis. His stories always left me howling with laughter.
Weirdly, I seem to remember the titles of some of these, but not the actual shows themselves. I can only think that I read the titles in various TV listings, but never actually watched any of them! The 90's were a little bit of a turbulent time for me, certainly TV-wise, so it's possible I was never in a position to be able to see down and watch them.
I remember outside edge, that is to say I remember it now that you've reminded me. So I guess we're both right?
The voiceover guy for the "Class Act" promo sounds like a New Zealander who had spent many years in Australia. Either that, or he's a NAFA. On BBC?
I remember after he starred in Outside Edge, Robert Daws was in another comedy where he ran a taxi firm. Can’t remember the name but I think Philip Glenister, from Life on Mars was also in it
Roger, Roger by John Sulivan. I thought at the time it was really good
@@notagainplease9124 me too. It never gets repeated anywhere for some reason
I remember Mr don and Mr George was good ...had a crush on Josie Laurence 🤷♂️
Can anyone shed light on this? Mid to late 80s sitcom about a stressed middle aged divorced woman with a teenage daughter, an annoying ex and an overbearing mother. Probably ITV and probably no more than a single series. It was pretty standard stuff but I remember my mum liked it because she related to the central character.

Yes, he’s covered several of those in previous videos.
@@AtheistOrphan several but not all?
Mother's Ruin was on Forces TV about a year ago...channel has closed down now...
I only discovered the channel just before it closed down! 😩
I managed to record a few classics from there including Get Some In! Shame they never got astound to it ain't half hot, mum.
With the VO on Class Act, it sounds as though it wasn't broadcast in the UK.
So it was a British sitcom made exclusively for export? I must admit I don’t remember it but it almost certainly was broadcast in the uk
Josie Lawrence grew up in my hometown
I was told the BBC kkep all there archives and if you write in and ask you can get send VHS so guess DVD no of it i'm willing to be ITV are same or you could always Tweet Mark little and ask him if he has a copy he could copy for ya
"Mothers Ruin" was repeated on the now defunct forces TV,..
I have the dvd of 'If you see god tell him " it's brilliant, Mother's ruin was on forces TV a while ago just before the channel closed down, it was awful, one episode was all I could manage of it.
I saw If You See God, Tell Him a few months ago. Wasn't a fan.
Oh gosh...Mothers Ruin...I undertook some freelance animation work for either the title or end credits...I never even saw the series!
if you see god tell him was a great piece of comedy drama
PERFICK..... LOL 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh dear
Mr Don and Mr George was a bit crap.. Should have nade a Mockumentary about Stoneybridge instead. ;)
presume outside the edge was not written by the Actor Richard Harris
Sunnyside farm phil Daniels
Alan Clark was a very miserable playright like Morrissey on suicide watch for the Samaritans.
Im certain thats him!
This reference is to Alan Clark the Tory minister who reportedly had an affair with a judge's wife and her two daughters.
@@tentringer4065 I thought was a good bit later .
He is no Cecil Parkinson lol 😀
Mothers ruin was shown on the new defunct forces TV last year it was a northern version of sorry. Outside Edge was very popular and won awards for best new comedy.
Mad about Alice was a terrible series from the 2000's starring the queen of canceled shows Amanda Holden it was so bad SHE asked the BBC to stop showing it .
I remember outside edge getting lots of publicity at the time, it was shit
Mothers Ruin was terrible great cast waisted watched a couple of episodes on the now gone channel Forces TV.
These are ‘comedies’?
mr dom and Mr george was hilarious, thank you very much.
I wouldn't mind seeing Health & Efficiency, I liked Gary Olson on 2point4 Children after all.
You missed out Blue Heaven staring Frank Skinner
Prisoner sell bloke h wer she's from
