I’ve had one of these for years and almost 150,000 miles and I have no issues. Shifting down on hills really is a great idea by the way. The car does all the work for you.
Really? Please tell me more. How so? It slows the car down?
@@sukwini684 Yeah, it’s called “engine braking”. When you’re coming down a big hill next time, put your car into semi automatic mode and pull back one gear, you’ll feel the speed gradually backing off when the RPMs rise, you might find you don’t have to brake at all to stay at a comfortable speed. If you’re going down a big grade combine it with the brake, use your gears to keep the motor around 2500~3000 RPM.
Don’t do any more than one gear at a time because you could lurch it and overspin something.
Most modern cars are smart enough to turn off fuel injection when you’re coming down a hill and the engine is spinning faster anyway so you are just using your engine as a load instead of a power plant. That is why you will see your instant fuel economy meter go all the way up when you were going down the hill, even though the engine is spinning fast.
It comes from driving truck for a long time and being used to having these things in the truck.
I’ve actually had friends tell me my brake lights were broken after coming down big hills behind me only for me to tell them that I wasn’t using the brake and giving this exact explanation lol.
Driving a stage 1 '18 Golf with DSG, love it. :)
With the DSG Automatic gear box can you change from D to S Shift at any speed and can one only change to Tiptronic if you are driving in D ( DRIVE ) as shown by your demonstration ?

Nice video, great presentation. Help me understand if my engine oil is used for my wet clutch on my Audi Q3 quattro 2.0 TDi with 7 speed DSG gearbox?. Particularly i need to know if i can use liqi moly engine oil additive which has MoS2 as friction limiters, i want to avoid this additive if engine oil used by my gearbox in which case due to MoS2 it will start slipping the gears? Your expert advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks a lot.
You know nothing just take the car to VW
If you have to ask if engine oil is the same oil in your gearbox then leave it to a pro
In your case the DSG box employs wet clutches which needs the expensive specific fluid changing every 4 years or 40k miles. Which ever is first. Hope that helps.
For start this video not meant to explain difference between manual vs dsg, it was made to explain feature of dsg for those who has one. For those complaining about dsg, most likely that you trying to be a F1 racing driver in gearbox that design for normal driving. When manufacturers advise to use genuine replacements i.e gearbox oil, you should listen. There’s reason behind why they advise to use genuine product. Yes they do charge little more than alternatives but benefits are there to be seen over long run. Just because you had bad time buying a VW from dodgy dealer, it doesn’t mean VW is bad. I am fortunate to drive three version of VW golf all had dsg, and out of all automatic gearbox dsg is the best. Even Jeremy Clarkson and James May agree on something.
Agree with you 100 percent. Good information. Thanks for sharing 👍

You can change from D to S while moving.

You can but I think it’s better in any transmission, rather regular planetary gear, CVT, or DSG/DCT, to go from drive to sport. If you’re already in sport though, going to drive couldn’t harm it. I think it sport doesnt make the car that much faster it just makes the throttle more responsive/sensitive
@Zachary Scheffler I think flooring at D mode also does the same..?🤔
While I can't give you a technical explanation my experience with this is that in the S mode the engine RPMs increase by a few hundred depending on how fast you're going at the time . Basically you get more power in S versus D as far as RPMs reducing the time that the engine has to build up more RPMs .

I just got my first Passat with DSG. At the stop light do you keep holding your foot on the break pedal? Or do you shift in N?
breakpedal
With DSG gearboxs if your hold button is on........ the button next to your gear selector lever....and you come to a complete stop using the brakes at a red light, the car will stay still. It wont move until you accelerate off. No need to keep foot on brake or put in neutral.

Does anyone’s car feel as if it’s over reving when engen breaking downhill. I have a polo 1.2 tsi DSG and I normally end up put it in manual and shifting up to prevent what I feel like engine strain/fatigue.
Yes. Mine does. Transmission is more than likely going to the next lower gear to assist with slowing down but usually when you, not you but people in general take their foot off the acceleration pedal. Slowing down with the transmission going to a lower gear will momentarily increase engine RPMs .
Why can't people spell 'Braking'......breaking is when you break you finger etc.

DSG (DCT) used to screw up the Chinese automobile market in 2012, especially the VW model that have DQ200 7 speed and DQ250 6 speed . The DSG malfunction model include Magotan, Golf, CC, Skoda, Satigar and Scirocco. Mostly, these phenomenon of DSG are low gear palsing noise, lost speed for no reason, and clutch pack overheat.
The pulse is when it confused what gear it should be in or it is selecting a gear on the same shaft. Not sure what loss of speed would do. The DSG is essentially a wet DTC, which means you need to get it serviced vw recommends every 30-40k miles but if you push it or are tuned its better to do it every 20k. I doubt the chinese owners did much of that... Not being serviced in 50-60k+ miles will usually cause clutch wear and overheating due to there being less transmission fluid.
@@TommyCubed It's not the issue of regularly service, because Chinese traffic is sometimes being speed of snail, which means the DSG is in half clutched at most time that made it easy to broke down.
@@suyuanxie8022 Thats true, in D it will keep the clutches just barely at the biting point. I usually throw it onto N in drive thrus and deadstop traffic, you can hear it lower the idle too.
@@TommyCubed Anyway, DSG really brought miserable memories for Chinese customers. Even worse, vw official only recalled the Taiwan market model while mainland continent market only offer warranty extension. This is really treat customers differently which is a nono in China market.
@@TommyCubed Right now in China market, we still have PTSD on DSG.
One thing I need to know badly, why in "tiptronic" mod forward(push) is upshift and backword(pull) is downshift? This thing never make sense to my brain, maybe someone can explain it to me...
Maybe because we think of pushing things up, so upshift is to push up, and we pull something down (from a shelf) so pulling down is pulling the gears down...downshift. Would the reverse make any more sense? Of course with a manual transmission floor shift, up or down shifting is not directly related to which way you move the gear shift lever. In a 4 speed you move the lever up (forward) to downshift from 4th to 3rd gear, but when you upshift from 1st to 2nd you pull the lever down (rearward). Eventually it all becomes an automatic response. 🙂
The only problem I have with the DSG is it rolls back on up hills. I live in a hilly place and it's a quiet a headache. It does have an auto hold function but with that on, it doesn't creep forward in traffic making me switch it on an off multiple times. Wish it was more intuitive in that one aspect.
KR 92 a way around this issue I have found is to have the handbrake on, put it into drive, release the foot brake, let the car build up a little rev, then slowly release the handbrake and it shouldn’t roll back as much, though this is what I do not what you should do as I don’t know if it’s mechanically a good idea
Try buying a manual transmission. Then you can control the car exactly how you’d like to

To Turn off the system on all VW/Audi /Skoda completely if you are finding this interfering with normal driving and finding this very unnerving when it cuts in when not wanted.
Take the cover off the Radar sensor in the front grill then unplug. Then tape over the cable plug to stop water getting in with good quality insulating tape or a waterproof tape.
This as far as i am aware this will put the vehicle back to standard braking.
But test the vehicles braking before going on a journey to make sure the vehicle can do a emergency stop by doing this yourself.
(Did this with 19 Plate VW Transporter)
As Manufacture would not risk the front grill/radar sensor if damaged, the brakes must continue to work as standard.
