It is nice to read parts of the stories in the Marvel Saga which shows how the other comics go together. Also, a magazine called Dynamite. which is published by Scholastic had part of their original story and had questions and answers and where i first heard of. i saw a cartoon show before I read Marvel Saga. I also have the index series.
And in fairness it makes sense within the story as I'd say her powers are probably the most complex of all of them and it potentially just would take her longer to fully work them all out and master them
There is and that's an awesome looking book but that does have less content than this omnibus. I think the Taschen one collects the first 20 issues and this collects the first 30
It looks like stock is running low for it so it could be hard to find now, I'd suggest keeping an eye on the sites of comics retailers, eBay and even Amazon in case it comes back in stock
Bryne was not the one to make Sue more powerful. She already was even within the Lee/Kirby run. That's such a misconception. Her only being able to turn invisible initially actually made her inherently the bravest and selfless teammate out of all of them not to mention it provided a certain tactical asset. Willing to go in harm's way. It also taught her resourcefulness, ingenuity, and improvisation and assessing dangers rationally and objectively. She's always had a heart of gold and always understood Namor while the others just wanted to fight. She understood he was just hurt and bitter and Namor respected her for that. She literally saved them on issue 5 from Doom she volunteered to be the hostage which is a great strategy since she's on the inside, the ace in the hole. The other 3 were trapped in an room running out of oxygen, she managed to short circuit the machine blowing up in Doom's face, escaping unseen freeing the others. They all would've died without her on their first encounter with Doom alone. And there's many more examples I can bring up. In issues 22 and 23 when her force fields were introduced neither Ben nor Johnny could penetrate it and repelled their attacks with no problem. In annual 2, she had Reed pinned down within seconds by hurling a force field, then turning invisible and pinning him into the wall with a metal looking table. She then blocked Doom's blast expanded her force field and threw him out the window with ease. It also took Doom up to annual 2 to rig up a radar in his armor just to scan for Sue but Sue kept him busy tripping on invisible force pellets. In issue 25 she saved Johnny with a force field from the Hulk who, if you look closely, looked to be quite struggling with getting through her force field before he switched to another tactic of jumping in the air beyond Sue's range and her fainting from the energy expendure. She had limits like they all did. In issue 18 Reed literally devised a strategy and specific tool that required Sue's invisibility to defeat and get the drop on the Super Skrull. And in Roy Thomas and Gerry Conway's runs she was doing more and more intricate and sophiscated things with her force fields and improving her reflexes. Also reminder Sue didn't grow up in a ideal family upbringing. She was the one who was thrusted into adulthood much like Peter and be mother and sister for Johnny and take care of him, raise him, and manage the house and bills. Her father left after failing to save their mother and went into gambling and spiraled into depression. Sue didn't have her proper teen years nor her father present. So it makes sense she takes to Reed and wants to be cared and looked after, after having done so for Johnny all those years who never had to worry about food, shelter, clothes, bills because Sue took care of all that and she also wants to indulge in simple, ordinary things like fashion, perfume, wigs, hairdos, etc. The teen years she never really had. All this is what Lee and Kirby had established and is well embedded within the lore. I just hate when people take silver age matieral at face value and who also don't factor in the history and lore as a whole and don't really do the research.
@@jjm6187 I don't think Waid's run is as good. I'd suggest reading Lee and Kirby's from around issue 40 onwards and I think Byrne's run is better appreciated after reading that original run because he clearly had a lot of respect for it in how he then wrote the series
Nice that the FF Omnibus includes the letters but others like Powerpack does do include them.

Great review. I love classic FF. I’ve always loved that first issue cover and the origin story. Jack and Stan could do no wrong back then
I LOVE the fact that sue was written the way she was..that the men can be men and take care of her.. love it

Byrne's just because I don't think the Lee/Kirby run gets really good until the issues in Vol 2
