Thank you, Omar! This is hands-down one of my favorite videos now. You speak with the love and adoration that this book deserves. I almost wish they combined volumes one and two, as it is almost unfair the amount of sentimental value volume two has over volume one. As for the spines, I initially did not care, but it became a concern, as I already have a volume one of the old printing. So, to compromise, I found an old printing of volume two locally, cancelled my pre-order and will have to buy volumes three and four with the newer spines, so at least two of the four will match each other. Even before these newer spines were revealed, I have been having difficulty finding a volume one of The Mighty Thor in the old printing, so I will wait on that one and its subsequent volumes for the updated spines.
Is this some ploy by marvel to make people buy the new reprints too and sell their old ones to match the spine?I know shelf uniformity is a thing of beauty and this would look ugly with older printings,I missed out on vol 3 earlier so real bad move there,Why are they even doing this?Makes no sense other than the above mentioned point. But other than that, this is a classic Omni that should remain evergreen, the stories really hit their stride here
I'm not a fan of the font on the new spine. I like the small picture at the bottom of the new spine though. I wish that they kept the larger font and added the picture on the spine. Thank you also Omar for talking us through the differences of the original and restored versions. It is hard to see the fine lines on the video (maybe it is just my lower resolution monitor). Thus, I appreciate the verbal description that you gave. I am excited to get this new version (ignoring the font on the new spine).
It would be cool if Marvel was willing to print dust jackets for people wanted the older spine designs, feels like they are leaving money on the table, but that’s just my perspective.
I was hoping the spider man 3 spine wasn't going to go down this route as I have 1, 2 and 4 with the older spine design. Seems weird to change just 3 and 5 when they have done recent reprints of 1 and 2 in the last couple of years.
I really dislike the font-size too but it's got me curios...what titles are so long that they'll need more space? I mean, they fit things like Amazing Spider-Man just on two lines before.

I'm here to voice my disappointment along with many others regarding the change in spines. On one hand I actually considered upgrading my Inferno Prologue to the omnibus for the sake of shelf consistency, but if they're going to change spines like this whats the point?
Its the principle though, the only reason for me to 'upgrade' to the omnibus is cosmetic as I already have the OHC. However if they're going to throw consistency to the wind with the omnibus line, I don't see the point.
I have every one of the silver age books on pre order and I'm seriously considering canceling and spending all that money on something else. $1,000 can buy a lot of things that won't annoy you forever.
I like the image on the spines but the font is awful and I find it crappy how they are making the creators names smaller and only putting the last names instead of the full names like before, plus already existing collections will look really janky
Everyone complaining about the spine (I dislike the font size also - so stupid) but Maevel won’t learn anything if you buy it anyway. If you accept this, it will continue. They listen to money and money alone. Speak with your wallet.
I'm thrilled that Marvel has commited to making all of these omnis that have been out of print for years available to newer collectors. I've been spending an obscene amount of money on them. A lot more than I planned on. Lol.. That being said.. The new look for the spines is hideous. It might seem like a small thing to some people, but it's NOT. In fact, it is so awful-looking that I won't be buying them. Marvel needs to reevaluate this situation and do something about it, because, from the look of the other comments, I'm not the only one.
Odd they changed it now, if they had gone for the smaller font at the start as well as the little logo at the bottom etc- probably wouldn't be an issue but it does look odd against the old ones. The smaller font makes a little more sense as it doesn't looked cramped and it gives more room to the picture - how to get all the words on the spine if it is too large. Loved that they have update the omni, but have the epics ... sigh, just can't buy everything. Would love to see more of this in artisan / artists edition, love B&W art even more than the colour versions (used to that in the UK)
As always, appreciate your peeks at upcoming releases. Like others, I am not a fan of the new spine. My biggest concern was them not using really thin paper like they did on the Defenders Omni (which was the first book that used this new spine.) It's NOT as thin is it?! Anyway, keep up the great work!
Thanks for the review but the interior art comparisons were difficult to appreciate since the camera was too far to capture the details you were describing. In the future I suggest you zoom into the individual panels whilst comparing the old restored art by Phil Lord and new restored art by the new guy. I remember some terrible panels from the MMW reprints of 39 & 40 which guest starred DD & DD, I wonder if those were improved in this new omni. Will the FF vol 3 & 4 reprints also have newly restored art?
Interesting that later printings have better quality reproduction of the art than 1st prints. I like the slimmer size too. Sometimes books printed on heavier paper are unwieldy, although you would think that heavy paper would mean better quality.
Heavy paper DOES mean better quality, that's a fact in printing (save the out of ordinary, exotic, rare cases of thin but luxury paper used in art books).
@@KittyPryde0 The problem with buying custom DJs is first of all that you support Marvel and they'll keep printing these spines for all their SA omnis, and secondly you will have to spend even more money on what is already an expensive hobby whereas it could have easily been avoided.
Just going to echo most others and repeat the font is far too small. Why the need for all that empty space on the spine? I would understand if they took advantage of the smaller font for larger spine images or something, but they didnt. So it just seems the font was decreased x10 for no reason. And it just seems disrespectful to me to have the authors names so small that you need a magnifying glass. Hope marvel turns back on this decision.
Art is attention to detail. The attention of detail on those spines are laughable. As a new Omni collector, The spiderman 300 DM cover was a total let down and now this. These books are expensive and if Marvel wants my money then they need to intrigue my desire cause that little ass text for ants aint winning noone over.

I'm with you 100 percent. I'm probably going to buy Captain America vol. 3 because I've been waiting for those stories in Omni format- this was cap at his silver age best, but after that I'm not buying any omnibus with the tiny-lettered spine. That means I hold off on Defenders vol. 2 when that comes out but Marvel has proven itself to hire some stupid people who just messed up a good thing for everyone.

Omar thanks so much for showing the comparison between the two to demonstrate the restoration. Seems like they really took their time & didn’t try to punch up the pages or show off all the stuff they can do digitally. Would definitely watch a video discussing this process in more detail. The painstaking work deserves to be celebrated.
New 4k Camera or not, even on my 75" 4k Qled, I still can't see the differences you describe as one comic panel is only a couple inches across on screen in most cases. Need close ups to notice, and I do tend to see the differences. Just an observation / feedback etc. Great looking book however. Damn I've grown at nearly 50 years old to finally appreciate and love Kirby.
Whoever came up with that small-font spline idea and the thinner omnibus should be sent to Latveria to toil as the personal servant of Dr. Doom, jumping to his every demand and verbal insult. And the Fantastic Four should not even bother to ever go rescue this person. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
I’ll definitely buy a custom DJ for it if they do. Are they doing these spines for the PAD Hulk volumes because I literally only got volume 3 like last week when it got restocked lol.
Hopefully they just call it Mutant Massacre Prologue and give it a graphic design like the other omnis in the latter part of the Claremont-era. I think the omnibus will do better by tying it into Mutant Massacre (like with the Inferno Prologue Omni) rather than calling it Vol 5.
Omar, curious if Marvel provided you with an actual reason for the change in spine font/design? Something had to have changed over there. We got the Wolverine volume 2 flat spine and now this. Seems odd.
Hey Omar, by any chance is the Mutant Massacre reprint going to have, as I understand, 3 covers? The original red design from the first printing, the Alan Davis cover, and UXM #210 with the blueish background? ✌️
Thank you very much for the video Omar, the colors look vibrant. I sold my original copies so I pre-ordered all of this new line with the new spine. I think like many other collectors the font size is my biggest pet peeve. My eyes are getting old so i need help with those big font letters. I don't know if this helps, but..... maybe you could contact marvel to release the high resolution images so people can make their on custom dust jackets without going out their way and paying somebody else to do it (omnis are alredy expensive). I find it a bit more annoying for the ASM vol 3 repirnt for people (myself included) who bought the volume 2 reprint with the original size font, maybe we could find a middle ground with Marvel.
At around 3:00, you mention Vol 1 coming out at some point. Would there happen to be any new news regarding this ? I have volumes 2 - 4 of these latest printings and would appreciate adding Vol 1 ASAP.
@@NearMintCondition I've been checking Walt's and a few other places in Europe since this video came out. I got volumes 2 - 4 from Walt's, but there's never been any sign of a 2020s reprint released of a volume 1.
I know this won't appease the angry people, but i wonder if Marvel has considered selling just the dust jackets? Not just old design vs new but also the Cap vol. 4 (Kirby), or for the ASM Roger Stern or Michelinie / McFarlane omnibus?
If Marvel can give us a positive reason for the shift to a smaller font that would be helpful, personally I’m not a fan. Also I don’t think the little character pic on the spine adds a lot of value and the creators’ names are so tiny now!
I’ll probably still get this because I care more about the content then how something looks on my shelf. That said, after reading other comments you can see Marvel really shot itself in the foot with this one. I don’t think the new spines look good either. It makes no sense that they would change the spine dress and fonts after having so many volumes the other way. It would be better if it was a new different series (not a volume 2 of like 5 or whatever) but the font would still be too small.
The tiny font looks stupid as hell. I like the restored art but I thought they already did that with all the omnis and masterworks...? Will the upcoming Spider-Man omnis have restored art too?
I’m so tempted to get this new edition because FF Vol. 2 is easily one of my favorite omnis. But, I think I’m going to save my money for books I haven’t read yet 😄
There is another book that may combine vol 1 with some issues from this one if not just adding the house ads with other ads: from TASCHEN MARVEL Comic Library.
Don't care about the spines myself. When you're comparing panels between the books, would it be possible to just do a split screen to see just the 2 panels side by side? I couldn't see the differences you were speaking about because the panels were too far away to make out the detail. The only one I noticed was the Namor cover but even that I would've preferred a zoomed in shot.
Does anybody know if the 2nd printing had the remastered artwork? I know there were some printing differences because it is about as thick as this new printing.
@@lewishutchison9932 Yes I did and he only mentions the first printing and this new 3rd printing. He didn't specifically state that this is the first time the remastered artwork was used, he just mentioned that the newer printings get new artwork. It would be different had this been announced at the time. Still would’ve been miffed about it but at least it would have been my choice to buy or not.
I'd prefer the oringal cover. It's nice to feel like it's classic. So I'd buy the standard edition and skip the new cover that doesn't have the bold classic colors that are on the inside.
It’s not as big a deal on FF as it is on Spider-Man. They just reprinted vol 2 months ago with the old one. Now they changed them all. It’s Annoying and the only issue is really the tiny font. It looks like a photo shop mistake

Thank you for the video, but that spine is triggering me, Fantastic Four Vol 1 was my first Omni so Im kinda sad the spines won't match.
Again, thank you so MUCH! Do I need to email you?
@@NearMintCondition ok thanks so much!

@@NearMintCondition Hello Sir. So sorry I just sent it.
@@grahamodom2819 I just want to make sure you get it, buddy. :)
@@NearMintCondition Thanks! Would you mind to send me a message on UA-cam if you get the email?
I was hoping the spider man 3 spine wasn't going to go down this route as I have 1, 2 and 4 with the older spine design. Seems weird to change just 3 and 5 when they have done recent reprints of 1 and 2 in the last couple of years.
I really dislike the font-size too but it's got me curios...what titles are so long that they'll need more space? I mean, they fit things like Amazing Spider-Man just on two lines before.
Even shang chi master of kung fu fit. Must be something big
Just an excuse so Omar doesn't upset gabriel
@@jamesjohnson-xc5qm Hey man, I've already gave you a warning on IG to keep it civil. Instead I'll just use this as example. I have already reached out to Marvel with the negative concerns, in the damn video I mentioned I didn't like the font and I DON'T Delete negative comments. Everyone is free to speak their mind. If I really didn't want to upset the folks at Marvel I would delete all negative comments, not reach out with negative feedback, delete the petition going around to get the spines changed back and just show Marvel that everyone is happy. I'm not sure what your issue is, but people like you make it really hard not to bring out 20 year old Omar back. \What they decide to do with the spines is up to them as I DON'T work for marvel. Let the beast sleep and have a blessed day.
@@NearMintCondition dw about him Omar. He's a minority opinion just trying to get a reaction to annoy you. Thanks again for all the hard work & telling it how it is
@@NearMintCondition I think any rational person knows not to blame you, Omar. Hope the not-so-rational folks aren't being too annoying about it!
I understand that some people are upset about the spine change but I think a lot of those people lack the skills to adequately communicate that. It's not alright to try to attack/bully content creators (or even Marvel). There are better ways to make your opinion known/try to get your voice heard without being discourteous.
I'm here to voice my disappointment along with many others regarding the change in spines. On one hand I actually considered upgrading my Inferno Prologue to the omnibus for the sake of shelf consistency, but if they're going to change spines like this whats the point?
I think Inferno Prologue is safe since it's the latter Claremont-stuff (not sure if it's considered Bronze Age at that point).
Cancel them then if you feel it will annoy you enough to regret buying them. That is a lot of money.
Amen to that. Wish I could un-preorder the DM Silver Age Omnis I already have pre-ordered, I will for the ones in upcoming solicitations though.
@@andreamateria3106 good work. They’ll only listen to sales.
They also made the font smaller on the introduction by Stan Lee. Maybe larger fonts cost more so they’re cutting costs everywhere.
No, its thicker than that.
Been patiently waiting for ASM vol 3 reprint to fill the gap between 2 and 3. Can't wait to see that new spine between them now....
Hey Omar. How’s it going? Do you have any updates about The Amazing Spider-Man omnibus vol.4? I miss it.
Nothing yet
Thanks for the review but the interior art comparisons were difficult to appreciate since the camera was too far to capture the details you were describing. In the future I suggest you zoom into the individual panels whilst comparing the old restored art by Phil Lord and new restored art by the new guy. I remember some terrible panels from the MMW reprints of 39 & 40 which guest starred DD & DD, I wonder if those were improved in this new omni. Will the FF vol 3 & 4 reprints also have newly restored art?
Looking forward to your overview of Captain America Omnibus Vol 3.
So good of Marvel to give work to amateur dust jacket makers, how kind.
It must be part of the new "hire the handicapped" campaign.
I first saw there was an FF Omnibus was on Ebay which was up for bid and months later I found the Vol 1 reprint on Amazon.
The spine font is so repulsive, I will give it a pass. Despite waiting for this reprint for like forever
I’m probably just going to buy custom DJs lol
@@KittyPryde0 The problem with buying custom DJs is first of all that you support Marvel and they'll keep printing these spines for all their SA omnis, and secondly you will have to spend even more money on what is already an expensive hobby whereas it could have easily been avoided.
@@KittyPryde0 where do you buy custom dust jackets?
@@KittyPryde0 send me the links
U can say that again, I'm with u on what's been goin on all of sudden
thanks for another fantastic review!
New printing seems a lot better, the collage in 16:05 is sharp! Too bad that they changed the spines.
Guys we need to cancel all of our pre-orders. If we don’t buy these new omnibus, hopefully Marvel will return to the old spines. We need to make Marvel listen
@@jimjohnson1305 i have Uncanny Xmen vol 1,3,4. I’m waiting on the second volume reprint in December but if it’s that new spine, I’m definitely not getting it. It really won’t look good next to the other volumes. I also have TASM omnibus vol 2 but I’m not getting the reprints of the other volumes with that spine. Like it’s so ugly, why on earth would they let this happen?!!
Dreadful spine. Way to make the shelves look naff. I also think Marvel should sell the various dust jackets choices as separate purchases for all their Omnibus
I would love it if they do that. Or maybe make different dust jackets that can be downloaded as digital files that we can print on our own.
@@graphicautist It's quite easy to design an alternate version of the official dust jacket and to print it. I bet someone will do it and release it.
Man,this is the book I have been waiting for.Even though the spine will take some getting used to,the awesome content is what ultimately counts.Thanks,Omar.great video.
This is why I still pre-ordered it, lol.
I hope they don't do that for ASM vol 3 and 5. It's gonna look awful and awkward with my ASM vol 2.
LOL, who wrote this volume again.... can't tell by that spine ;)
Otherwise, great overview....
an amazing book!!
Thank you so much. I thought about zooming in, but in post production and the quality would have dropped. I will keep this in mind for next time.
I just don't want to see this spine on the Uncanny X-men Omnibus Vol. 5 when it comes out..
I’ll definitely buy a custom DJ for it if they do. Are they doing these spines for the PAD Hulk volumes because I literally only got volume 3 like last week when it got restocked lol.
@@KittyPryde0 It seems they are only doing this for the silver age omnis.
@@Landon11195 I agree with you.. It seems it's only for silver and bronge age stuff as Omar said in the video
@@KittyPryde0 I would like one too, if that's the case, I just don't know where can I find someone that manufactures these in Europe
Hopefully they just call it Mutant Massacre Prologue and give it a graphic design like the other omnis in the latter part of the Claremont-era. I think the omnibus will do better by tying it into Mutant Massacre (like with the Inferno Prologue Omni) rather than calling it Vol 5.
time to crack open that cap three omni
Done did. :)
Nice looking edition. That dust jacket is a nice homage to that classic Fantastic Four issue cover. 👍
Omar, curious if Marvel provided you with an actual reason for the change in spine font/design? Something had to have changed over there. We got the Wolverine volume 2 flat spine and now this. Seems odd.
The paper seems really thin. Does it crease and wrinkle easy?
No, it doesn’t. It’s not like the Defenders omnibus thin.
@@NearMintCondition thanks! The artwork does look great.
Hey Omar, by any chance is the Mutant Massacre reprint going to have, as I understand, 3 covers? The original red design from the first printing, the Alan Davis cover, and UXM #210 with the blueish background? ✌️
Just two covers. Cover to 210 and cover to 213
@@NearMintCondition Thanks ✌️
Also, looking forward to that Cap vol 3 overview!!
New camera? Quality seems off from previous videos
At around 3:00, you mention Vol 1 coming out at some point. Would there happen to be any new news regarding this ? I have volumes 2 - 4 of these latest printings and would appreciate adding Vol 1 ASAP.
Sadly it came and went. I think dying breed collectors has some in stock.
@NearMintCondition I live in Europe, so, sadly, that doesn't help.
Have you tried Walt’s?
@@NearMintCondition I've been checking Walt's and a few other places in Europe since this video came out. I got volumes 2 - 4 from Walt's, but there's never been any sign of a 2020s reprint released of a volume 1.
I know this won't appease the angry people, but i wonder if Marvel has considered selling just the dust jackets? Not just old design vs new but also the Cap vol. 4 (Kirby), or for the ASM Roger Stern or Michelinie / McFarlane omnibus?
I'm not sure of the practically of this, but they should just make them double sided for all ongoing series.
If Marvel can give us a positive reason for the shift to a smaller font that would be helpful, personally I’m not a fan. Also I don’t think the little character pic on the spine adds a lot of value and the creators’ names are so tiny now!
You made it look interesting
Is 1 getting reprinted ?
yes
I believe it is, either late this year or first of next.
If im not mistaken on December is the reprint of FF vol 1 and Silver surfer vol 1.
It will be. Not sure when.
Noo, not the asm omnis. They are going to look terrible on the shelf.
I hate hearing this for the upcoming ASM vol 5 omni 😭
Breaks my heart. FF 4 too!
That's a nice custom printed omnibus! I'm pretty sure those are illegal though
I’m just as annoyed by the spine stuff as most, but still stoked about the restoration.
Agree 100%. From that distance I even kind of thought the old one looked better on a few...
So much empty space on those spines😖. No reason to not use a larger font.
Does anybody know if the 2nd printing had the remastered artwork? I know there were some printing differences because it is about as thick as this new printing.
Did you watch the video?
@@lewishutchison9932 Yes I did and he only mentions the first printing and this new 3rd printing. He didn't specifically state that this is the first time the remastered artwork was used, he just mentioned that the newer printings get new artwork. Since he only compared the 1st and 3rd printings this isn't clear. If you have nothing productive to add then go ahead and shove whatever device you used to watch this video up your butt.
@@maximusmagni1 Only this new printing will have remastered artwork.
Still waiting for Excalibur OHC review
Coming this week.
Utter garbage. To those saying this is entitlement, consider that there was no notice about this when they were solicited for preorders/comic book shops, so people had no warning after already buying them. It would be different had this been announced at the time. Still would’ve been miffed about it but at least it would have been my choice to buy or not.
Well said.
Definitely picking this up so glad I got vol. 1 before it sold out. Hopefully vol.1 gets a reprint for those who missed it.😀
@near mint condition Whenever you speak with someone at Marvel can you ask if they will make dust jackets available to order with bigger font?
I'd prefer the oringal cover. It's nice to feel like it's classic. So I'd buy the standard edition and skip the new cover that doesn't have the bold classic colors that are on the inside.
maybe they should start making the marvel logo blue?...why not. love ya omar
LOL I can't even get DC to decide which cover to stick with my House of Mystery omnibus. :)
Where did the volume 1 video go :(
Standard Edition cover for the win!
It’s not as big a deal on FF as it is on Spider-Man. They just reprinted vol 2 months ago with the old one. Now they changed them all. It’s Annoying and the only issue is really the tiny font. It looks like a photo shop mistake
The tiny font looks ridiculous. It looks like a mistake to me!
