Ive played almost every type of drum set at this point, but a nesting drum kit was one I never had the chance to try until today! Brownie Drum Company reached out and offered to build a nesting drum set for me and I couldn't refuse. This set up is a 12" rack tom, 16" floor tom, 20" bass drum, and 14" snare. I went with a purple metal flake finish for the kit and a gold flake finish for the snare. Brownie has a unique finish method for their flake finished. Instead of wrap or lacquer they use epoxy. Ill see how it hold up over time but epoxy seems to be more durable than lacquer. Nesting drums are great for drummers that gig a lot since they all stack inside of each other and fit into one case. When it comes to nesting drums, this is the first kit I've gotten my hands on but I willing to bet that out of all the commercially available options this is the most "normal" nesting drum kits. All of the others that I've seen focus more on the nesting than they do the drums. These are expensive drums, coming in at $4,300.
What kit do you gig with? 🥁
none im broke
Your telling me a shrimp fried this rice
The house kit, usually. I play in churches a lot.
The worst kit I can possibly find
I dont have a kit
The finish gives me Prince vibes
Yeah, gold hardware and hoops would look nice too
That's racist
@@the6ig6adwolfAh yes, saying that a purple and gold drum kit, some of Prince’s favorite colors to use in his outfits and guitars, is racist. You really need to go outside dude.
@@the6ig6adwolf bro is fluent in yapping 💀
@@MadCritter was just outside
That mentality of a tiny scratch killing you is exactly why I scratch my stuff intentionally. Instant relief from that concern. Never a nasty one in plain sight. Always a minor thing out of sight. But it genuinely helps you not be so precious with stuff that gets handled. Drums, guitars, cars. Just get it out the way, cause its gonna happen eventually.
YES! I am not alone! lol I also do work on my instruments some times. So if i need to drill or something to make sure I keep the courgae I take a gouge where the work needs to be done so I cant turn back lol
I do this to my hunting guns lol. They're gonna get thrown around a truck or fall on the ground eventually, may as well get it out of the way early
The purple tho 😍😍
I was Cameron's roommate in college for a year. I went to see him play a couple gigs, the man is a fiend on the drums. We live on different sides of the country now, but keep in touch. Seeing how far he's come, not just designing his own sets, but amazing, top of the line sets, is so cool. So proud of you man!
Cameron is just a great, salt of the earth, guy. I'm lucky I got to know him. If you drum, I can't recommend enough working with him!
I stitch the pillows to custom fit each drum set. Cameron has worked on perfecting drum building, sound and finishes for many years. His hard work has come together in these nesting sets, each being one of a kind.
Do you sell the pillows separately? Already have a nesting kit and after seeing that thought it would be a great idea.
Nice pickup truck. Looks well cared for.
I ordered a 13/16/20 and that configuration works! Can't wait to get it if it sounds this good!
Holy smokes. That sparkle finish is absolutely gorgeous! The kit sounds fantastic and I love the idea of being able to transport all of the drums in one bag.
Bought a Brownie kit almost 2 years ago and haven’t looked back. One of the best sounding kits I’ve ever played. Plus Cameron’s finishes are always stunning!
I have a Yamaha HipGig and it sounds great. I bet the smaller HIpGigs 2 bags are heavier than the Brownies
Cameron is a true expert in drum building. His knowledge and craftsmanship with anything drum related is absolutely next level. These nesting kits are works of art! And his flake finishes are the BEST finishes available, period. He did a flake finish on one kit for me that was so insanely breathtaking that I asked him to work on another kit!
Carl's Jr. -I wasn't paid to say that. Wendy's has the best egg sandwich. Drums aren't that hard. Find someone to build you a custom set or build it yourself. No one does this which is means drummers are what? Stupid.
That floor Tom sounds freakin great
I don’t have a need for this kit but absolutely love the idea of a small package that then plays like a normal sized real kit.
I have had Cameron build drums for me and I can say with all sincerity, his work is hands down, some of the best out there. I endorse Zildjian, Vic Firth, Evans, Noble & Cooley, Yamaha etc., and he’s worth it! Made a nesting kit for me and it slays all the others. I owned a Drummers World and Yamaha Al Foster. No comparison…… his finishes crush it as well. I’d rather pay for his than be given a kit. My sound is that important.
The weird part about the drum set is that sounded more resonant AFTER BEING CUT. That’s wild, and just goes to show what good craftsmanship can do.
I disagree, but even if that were the case, the drums are tuned higher in the cut shells footage
I had a Nesting kit made by Drummer’s World in Manhattan back in 2001. They used five ply Keller shells. My kit is 16x16 bass drum 8x10, Tom, and a 13x13 floor tom.The bass drum has a lifter so the beater can hit the center of the drum. I’ve used it on tons of gigs. I can use the case with the three drums a small trap case a 13” snare and a cymbal bag all on a hand truck and make one trip into a venueThe finish is also Purple sparkle. Drummer’s World made a lot of these nesting kits in various sizes. Back in 2001 it set me back$980.
Cameron is an absolute master craftsman. I contacted him last year to see if he could turn my Ludwig Classic Birch drums into a nesting kit. What he did for me was absolutely jaw dropping. I have owned nesting kits in the past from various companies but was never satisfied with them. I asked Cameron to turn my Ludwig kit into something that looked new but vintage at the same time. I decided to go with a gold flake metal epoxy for the finish and was floored when I received them back. Looks and feels as smooth as glass. You can hardly see the seem on the floor tom and bass drum. The latches that are used for the shell seems are as strong as can be. No issues with rattling or coming loose. I have played this kit several times in live shows and have gotten several compliments on it, from the look to the sound. I could not be happier! I can’t say enough great things about Cameron and his work. Truly a one of a kind kit and a master craftsman.
I use a nesting kit made by Jeff Kirsch, and it is phenomenal. It gives character for those around when setting up/tearing down (generally the people who WANT to talk about equipment), and of course the sound is equal to regular sets. I leave my regular Pearl set setup at home, while the nesting kit travels and gets used. In the past 7 years of ownership, my nesting kit has played all but maybe 5 gigs - including only using toms for concert percussion. The only difference is that I use a hard case to transport the thing with a dolly. It’s SO heavy to lift in and out of the car compared to piece-by-piece movements. All hardware in one bag, drums in the case, cymbals in their bag, and I’m good to go.
The color is just A BLAST!
Love the finish and they sound pretty good!
I love that truck
Cameron is a master drum maker and a helluva nice guy. So happy to see his work on your channel!
That snare looks and sounds lovely 😁👌
bro propping the bass on the mic cables is bold, i about had a heart attack myself
What always strikes me (pun intended) when I watch your videos is the awesome sound you are getting from the different kits. You make everything sound sooo tasty.
Cameron Brown is some kind of wizard /alien. He put new edges on one of my snare drums and omg it's like an angel singing. AND holy cow his metal flake finishes are like none other
I've never been a fan of purple. But that purple sparkle, accented with the gold snare, might be the prettiest set I've seen... And its PURPLE!
It's a good day when david posts
One of the best kits I've heard you play in a while. Whether it's the drum itself, tuning, or both I love this sound!
It's the mic's! $3000 will make any kit sound good.
@@hippydippy OP was comparing this to rdavidr's previous videos, which use the same Earthworks mics. Plus, poorly placed mics will sound crap no matter what.
Toms are very dead because of the cut
Ooh fancy
Ray Ayotte made a smaller and more simply finished nesting kit that cost $7500 13 years ago, although it included two flight cases. It also included all wood hoops with claw hooks that matched the different curvatures of each hoop size.
Cameron is a true artisan. I've had him work on multiple kits for me, and they are truly better than new!
That is a beautiful kit. I’ve never been a fan of purple until now.
I'm tuned in, the best show on television and digital streaming, so entertaining hire David 8 days a week! All day I'm to words that teach me!
2112! Best drum shop in the Carolina’s!
Cut or uncut, the eternal debate.
Cam is undefeated with his nesting kits! I have a light purple one. They sound sooo good and have become my go to kit for local gigs because of the convenience of it. Get you a brownie!
That's actually a really clever kit with the butterfly latches and all.
hes got a drummers dream
a perfect snare sound
that's a dope kit
I play a jalapeno nesting kit - made in the UK. Same idea and pretty much the same construction. No compromise on sound and very convenient.
i need that snare
I'm in love with that snare, sounds great!
This is seriously cool. It's solving a real issue with almost zero drawbacks. Amazing execution.
Cool kit!
That color is phenomenal !!! It’s a great sounding kit!
That kit looks and sounds amazing!
I really enjoy the humor in these videos, especially when it actually takes effort to add it! That photo shop part was amazing 🙂
Seems like a really nice kit , very practical and compact
Yessir! Ravens drum kit!!
This is maybe the best sounding kit on your channel a certainly one of the best looking 🙂I created my own nesting kit out of 70's 4-ply/re-ringed TAMA Superstar shells. I learned 3 things from that: 1) The cut/latching does not affect the sound at all 2) a nesting kit is just sooo practical 3) Thin, re-ringed birch shells sound absolutely awesome. Unfortunately I'm from Germany, otherwise I would send you a 70's Superstar with 4-ply shells for review / a video. Buy one if ever you can find them, these drums are are on par with the best mass-produced kit's ever like LA Camcos or Jasper Gretsches
I’ve got one of these, wouldn’t trade it for any other kit. The entire set is truly impressive, the ease, the beauty, the sound. Cameron’s attention to detail is top notch
😂😂 cracking up at the "comparison" segment
Nice drumming, lovely finish and sounds great 👍
I gig with a mapex drum but that kit is awesome 👌 I like it man
This finish is stunning
Currently working on converting my compact kit (cheap shells with a converted 16 floor tom) into a nesting kit, more for fun than anything else. Always been interested in them, glad to see them getting more attention on your channel!
wow. killer kit.
Very beautiful kit!
Those sound unbelievably good!
These are some the most beautiful drums I’ve ever laid my eyes upon
looks amazing and sounds amazing. that floor tom really caught my ear though. Really COOL drums.
Dude your tom beats are sick, I always learn something from them.
Wow! Sounds really good
Awesome to see some love for Cameron and his incredible work!
Sounds great.
That finish is killer!
Sounds awesome 🤙🏻
Sound and looks truely awesome!
Very well made. Sounds solid.
Thats a sweet looking snare!
Love that finish! And the concept is amazing, serious money mind but so cool!
Solid grooves as always sir, always great vids :)
I have a nesting kit from Drummer's World in NYC. I have been playing it since ordering it to match an old Gretsch snare I used all the time then and still do. That was in 2003. It has all the features of these drums, except it is a wrap. I highly recommend a nesting kit for any gigging drummer in a city or without a car. This kit is beautiful. The Purple is awesome.
Awesome kit!
I have a Yamaha Hip Gig kit and love it. When I was in the Army Band I used one in Korea, and Iraq and absolutely loved the portability, sound quality, and ability to heavily mod it.
I play a mid-eighties Pearl Export kit (12, 13, 16, 22) that has grown over the years (10, 14, 18). Depending on the situation, I play big or small or somewhere in between. The nesting kit in the video would be perfect for me, but I can't afford it. It sounds great, looks great and is also excellently crafted.
You could simply convert the Pearl, buy some latches, cut the drums and make 45-degree counter-facing bearing-edges on the seams. Done
Love the color,they sound good.
Yo! I got my Brownie nesting kit this summer and it is amazing! I just played with it this weekend and was able to take the bus because everything (kit, hardware, cymbals, pedal, stick bag, and I carried the snare) fit on my rock-n-roller cart. Those purple look fantastic, I went with a seafoam turquoise with a fusha inlay in the bass drum hoop all metal flake. I've never received so many positive comments about the look of my drums. On top of that these are the best sounding drums I've ever owned as well.
A usuable pancake option should be put to thought. That would give the drum set an added versatility
Very cool video, that’s a neat drum set. Thank you for sharing. Wound be convenient to have
these sound insane !!!!!
that kit sounds really good
2112 Percussion! I love that place!
Any kit you play sounds good.
DAMN that finish!!!
Beautiful drums...😊
Love the color
That’s a beautiful kit
Hell yeah man!
This is awesome! That kit looks and sounds great. Being a gigging drummer, I’ve always loved the idea of a nesting kit but like you said it seemed like the companies were more concerned with the nesting rather than the sound.
That’s definitely a sexy kit right there bro I would love it for show & that snare is beautiful
Nice to know these are coming back! Though I still have a soft spot for the Yamaha Hip-Gigs. I own the Rick Marotta and Al Foster and I use the Al Foster for MOST of my gigs. The sound men LOVE it cuz it’s tight, has low end, the kick PUNCHES, and it’s just super easy for them to dial in. It is 60lbs all together and the snare and toms mounts directly to the bass drum eliminating stands/legs and extra hardware that’s usually needed. It fits right in my trunk being an 18wx22L. One loaded bass drum, pedal case, small hardware case, cymbal case… and my thrown cushion then I’m off!
Those sound and look great. The best sounding and looking nesting drums I've ever seen and heard by far. I'd be really bummed if I scratched that finish though.
waiting so long for your video 😍
Back in the late 70's I bought a 10 piece Tama Superstar kit that had concert toms. I nested them, but it took more than 1 case.
I did this without halving shells, but just taking some drum heads off of an old pearl export (with the lug bracing that went across the shell). The stack fit super well in the back of my old Saturn sc-2. If i wasnt playing a gig or rehearsing, it was probably riding in the back of my car, along with a big rolling soft hardware bag for everything else
Glad to see you reviewing Brownie drums. I've drooled over their kits for a long time now, but $$ is a factor for me. They're gorgeous!
A trick with the isolation mounts is to use wingnuts to remove the tom mount from the isolation ring. That way you have a little more leeway when nesting without it gouging the inside of the shell.
That sounds awesome, and the invisible seams are really impressive. Seems like you could also get a 13” snare to nest inside the floor, making it even more compact.
Honestly this is my new favorite drum wrap i really want this on my kit now
That’s NOT drum wrap!
