Five Things to Love About the Pearl Compact Traveler Kit
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 тра 2022
- The Pearl Compact Traveler Kit is built to go and go quickly, but that is just one feature you will love. It also:
- Easily converts to a standing kit
- Has a snare adjuster so your 10” drum can be a snare or tom
- Expandable with additional drums and mounts - right from your cymbal stands
- The 18” bass drum folds down to an insane 4” depth
Watch as Peter explains all these features and takes you on a trip back to the 1980’s (pastel t-shirt and white Armani jacket not required).

I have this kit.
I replaced the kick head with a evans blk onyx emad. Sounds much deeper.
Snare drum needs a real throw- off instead of the screw. Great kit for rehearsal or busking.
I have this kit and keep it in a cymbal bag in my car. Hi-hat stand, bass drum pedal, throne, and a couple of cymbal booms/clamps live in a small Rubbermaid box. It's great for taking to the park or friends' houses. If you bring along a separate snare, the 10" snare makes a good mounted tom. The add-on drums seem a little expensive for the price: a frame drum or tambourine is lighter and cheaper.
Keeping it in your car is a great idea! Yeah, it's kinda unnecessary to have a big ole 14" add on. Probably could just use 2 12" toms tuned differently.
Great review. Covered all the essentials and looked at everything I wanted to look at. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Great review, thank you for sharing! 🔥
You bet, thanks for watching!
Thanks. Now I want one. Damn it.
Avec pleasure! I have one in stock!
I'm kind of shocked with how good it sounds. Esp considering there's no shells to resonate etc.
Yeah, it's impressive! Remo had a kit back in the day called the PTS and it was essentially the same thing. The Pearl is so compact though, probably the most of any out there.
Jam on the Tama Cocktail Kit next!
If we get one in I will!
Só falta ainda chegar no Brasil
Dude that's so rad
It sure is! It would be cool to have just the bass drum.
For training, if you have only two options to choose from Pearl traveler kit (with additional toms and cymbals) vs Roland TD-1KV which is better?
Well, the Roland is definitely quieter if volume is a concern and has more sound options. I think the Pearl is better because you use an actual bass and hi hat pedal. If you're a beginner it's important to understand how to have volume control which can hard with electronic drums. A lot of beginners end up hitting electronic drums too hard because you can just turn the volume down. If you're not a beginner than it comes down to the pedals in my opinion.
Could you please recommend a "Quiet" acoustic kit, if there's any, to use in apartment?
cheers
Hi! I do not know of any quiet acoustic kits on the market. However, The Black Hole product would probably be the one I would use. It will dampen the drums at least 90%. The biggest thing with apartments is that the bass pedal hitting a pad will transfer through the floor. If you can alleviate that problem then the rest should be good really. Look into Sound Off pads or the Black Hole products.
@@BoomerMusicCompany thank you very much! In addition to using those dampening pads, what kit would you recommend? Thanks so much
Thanks. Any transcripts available for what you played ?
Nope. What are you wanting to see?
Hello. Is there a way to make such a flat kick drum sounding more bassy and punchy?
It has more bass resonance in person but not a lot. Changing the head can give you more punch. To get more resonance you would need to add a body to it which defeats the purpose.
Great portable kit for practice etc. Suppose you could gig with it, nicely tuned and miked up?
Can you put toms and other cymbals on the snare arm and/or attach the cymbal stand tom mounts on the bass drum/snare mount?
I'm asking because I need to get a drum set for playing metal that's relatively cheap (under £200) and will fit in my ridiculously tiny room (maybe like 3m*3m which is already half occupied by a bed and a chair).
Hello! I'll check it out today and see what the mounting capabilities are. My biggest concern would be the weight. I'll get back to you!
Hi! So, I could attach both toms onto the handle mount. I had to take the spring out of the clamps to make it go to a small enough diameter and it wiggles slightly. As far as adding cymbals you might have luck with the extensions that go on top of stands made by various companies. You would need to make sure the diameters would work together. Some companies offer small cymbal mounts that clamp onto rims but then you're adding a good amount of weight. Any chance of hanging something from the ceiling? Sounds ridiculous but can work in some situations. Good luck!
@@BoomerMusicCompany I think I'll go with the cymbal clamps/extensions. All I really need is a high hat and a crash/ride.
I love this in theory, but $760 total for what are essentially 4 practice pads?
Pearl is now offering just the bass drum which is pretty awesome. I have one complete kit in stock but I'm selling it for less than that. Send an email to Boomermusiccompany@gmail.com if you're interested. Of course you can get it without the toms as I think it's make more sense to do 2 of the 12" toms and leave out the 14" tom.
What did you do to make your snare sound better? Mine sounds awful it has a weird rattling sound to it
Hi Austin! I did nothing to it except adding a Moongel I believe. You just have to play with the snare mechanism and tuning range. When overtightened, the snares did have a funky slap back rattle sound. But if they were too loose it was all splatty. I have not tried a brand name head on the snare as that might help with response and tone. Those heads made in China are pretty bad. The USA made heads (Remo, Evans, Aquarian) will sound better for sure. I hope this helps!
@@BoomerMusicCompany Thanks!
Is it possible to use in apartment?
In terms of loudness
As is sits I would say a big nope. You would have to muffle them down substantially. The Black Holes would work as would the Sound Off mufflers.
thank you for your quick response.
Could you please recommend a kit that is suitable for apartment use, if any, and of course I know most suitable option is electronic kits but I am really hoping I can somehow use an acoustic in my room in my apartment !
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. THANKS!

👍😊🙏😍
Are those shells made of wood ?
No, they are made of plastic. The hoops attach to the plastic frame (shell). Pretty cool! Personally I'd get 2 of the small toms instead of the 14". It's big and kinda heavy.
Look's awesome. Way more manageable to throw in a car.
Seriously! SOOOOOOO easy to move around.
What do you think about it when it comes to play some rock and roll music?
Ya know, it's not going to be the same as a full size kit, that's for certain. But it's not meant to by any means. In my opinion it's more of a rehearsal/practice kit. The bass drum will sound fine with a mic on it as well as the toms with some muffling. The snare probably won't have the same success with a mic on it. Maybe with some more muffling but I just don't know. However, I've never tried these with mics. That would make a good video! I have one in stock if you're interested!
Really? The full kit? With the add toms? How much are you selling it?
$585 plus shipping@@izzy6133
can i play double pedal on it?
Yes! The lip accommodates a double pedal.
Cool like traps
Yup! Traps-not to many people have ever seen those oddly enough. Do you remember the Remo PTS kit?
There was other pancake kits I do remember that but I think that was just a nick name for them kind of drums Remo kit with maybe 3in Shel something like that I do remember Ty
Don't like the price w/ Tom's but this was a great review
Thanks! Yeah, with the toms it's the same price as a decent full size shell pack. Give and take I guess depending on your needs. We've all played that stage where this size of bass drum would be perfect. I think they should sell just the bass drum by itself. Who wouldn't want it?!
@@BoomerMusicCompany yep great bass drum for sure I still might buy a set and build it out later
We have one in stock!
@@BoomerMusicCompany how much
@@ramonkey2939 Send us an email to boomermusiccompany@gmail.com and I'll get you a price!
Put some triggers on it and it'll be gig ready for the traveling EDM or metal band that's room constrained
Great idea!
one thing to hate: it's pretty damn expensive for the whole kit
Sure, for the whole thing. It's a trade off. I wonder if they could use a 12" tom instead of the 14" tom and still achieve a deeper pitch. That would knock the $ down. Maybe even a 18" bass drum? I'm assuming they already tried these ideas but maybe not?
How much?
@@rogerringold616 over 600 if you're interested in the full 4-piece kit with no hardware or cymbals
@@rogerringold616 $399 for basic kit plus shipping
Awful sounds like Home Depot buckets
Definitely not for everyone! Besides, everyone knows that Ace Hardware buckets sound better than HD.
I like the kit, but a man should *NEVER* wear socks with sandals.
Hehe! If you saw my feet you'd understand. Not a pretty sight.
Not buying it..original rhythm traveler is great...that snare sucks...most important drum is snare...this might be good for what ??
Good for rockin' and rollin' and what not! (you have to say it like Danny from Grease)
