    Hi Tony
Good work on making the loads and weathering them . I will weather all my wagons first off give them a black or grey wash which brings out the details and gives something for the powders to grip to. As John mentioned WWS powders are good value as you get large tubs . I also use pastels and scrape them onto chassis to give a rust effect or grind them into powders ( nice and cheap 😀)

Good job on the wagons Tony, they really do look the part. On the subject of weathering powders, WWS to a great range and you get a decent sized tub, I bought a set for £20, which will last me ages. The other thing I have used and they’re pretty cheap are artist’s pastels, I bought an earth colour set which covers all the rusts and has a bright orange too. Only cost a couple of pounds from EBay. Scrape with a sharp knife and you get a fine powder and it does exactly the same thing as weathering powder.
It’s a great name for the new station West Haven, might have to twin towns, West Haven and Exehaven! Cheers Tony, Have a good week, John

Tha's a truly effective outcome with those ore wagons. Watching the train roll by I had a wee thought concerning the brake van: it too would near certainly accumulate(though less so) ore dust from the wagons it is trailing in a pattern from leading end to the rear; so how about appropriately dusting one up and keeping it part of the set?

Evening Tony, just waiting for the family from Surrey. First of all manly congratulations to edd for winning the competition, it's a great name and a brilliant prize. Those wagons look fantastic going around the layout, very clever to have little cameos looking into windows it adds a whole new level of detail and interest to the story. Also its nice to see some of the hard work you've put into the detail in the building. I was watching Yorkshire dales railway this morning and Lewis was weathering a locomotive, he also says he doesn't varnish his models, if the weathering starts to rub off its easy enough to replace. And that way nothing's permanent. Anyway I should talk I've never had the courage to attack one of my models!! Maybe one day. Oh I think the car is just pulling up so have a good bank holiday looking forward to the new project, best wishes to all, Eddy Anne xxx

Great looking wagons Tony, well done to Edd. I've found that using a ice cream container to place wagons in whilst weathering with powders helps collect it and you can easily tip the waste powder back into the container, I also wear a glove to stop finger print marks and with the glove you can smear streak marks etc. Take care and please remember to stay safe..

Now, ordinarily if I we’re to say “what a mess” that might sound negative and a bit rude. But in this case it is a huge compliment! 🤣😂😅 Tony mate, those wagons look superb! Love that rusty powder! Really does look like that harsh orange tint that nasty rust takes, so it is spot on in my book 🤓 I’d maybe (being hyper-critical here) tone it down on the sides…but then again, I suspect with a bit of time the lustre will reduce and calm down a bit so it will actually look spot on! Leave it a while I reckon before you varnish it 💡
    Brilliant mate! 👍🍀🍻

Tony, you could also take a look in the dollar store for some cheap pastel chalks. Or, as for my favorites, just plain ordinary pigment powders from your local art store. Those pigments really make a difference. They stick well and are true colors. It’s also amazing what kind of amount they sell in compared to those half filled one sandwich jam jars.
It’s not that I don’t wanna use or purchase the stuff from wws or other suppliers. They make a great range of products. However, what those modeling powders go for is beyond amazing. Added to the tiny amounts they sell by.
I’ve got some color powders from Pan Pastels. Those too look and work great. But they too sell only tiny portions.
At our favorite art store, I buy the pigments for 250-500 grams, so way larger quantity, on average for half the price of the brand names. Some pigments are of course more expensive. Or need special care when working with them. Next to those more expensive ones there’s enough choice in less expensive ones as very good alternatives. I just avoid the ‘handle with care ones.’ And I just mix ‘m; for too dark I’ve got this past date batch of tile grout. Just a pinch of a teaspoon does wonders. Naturally, mixing stirs some of it up. Heck, when doing such I definitely may look like a coal miner. Consequently, it all adds to the fun, of both the experiment, the artistic license and eventually experience.
Thanks 🙏 for another great TNE episode. Cheerio!!

Really like how you did these iron ore wagons. Love the black shade on the bottom end, it really enhances the view on those wagons. Already whilst you were doing ‘m, and when running on the layout. That addition of such shade enhancement truly adds to the perspective of the model. The simplicity of how you’ve achieved this will definitely invite other people to improve their weathering.
