I'm still very curious about water mechanics in this game- as in, digging and filling or draining holes of all the water. Being able to build my own ponds/rivers/dams/waterfalls? Love it. This game legit has everything. I cannot wait. WISHLIST IT you won't regret it, assuming they deliver just what we've seen in the trailers, I'm extremely excited.
Bro, that's exactly what I was thinking! First thought was - can I move water over? Can I make an underground base with secret underwater cavern entrance?
There isn't any water in the game at all. Literally none. There isn't any ponds, lakes, rivers, or oceans. Water is replaced with a weird mist. Probably didn't want to deal with water in voxels, so they even made it part of the story. It sucks, but it is what it is.
Yeah this game would huuugely benefit from significantly updating it's architcetural model database with as many architectonic elements as possible. Arches of different sizes, of different shapes & styles : Gothic arches, Romanic arches, Arabian arches, Persian arches, Indian arches, Moorish arches...etc If it had a large database of vegetation models; pines, berches, oaks, palms, ferns, acacias, cacti, brugmansia, daffodills, tullips, roses, hedges....etc you could make ornamented gardens that fit with the style of your house's architecture. I have no idea how far this game is in development, how much further it will be developed and where it will go, but I see great potential in this game. For the first time in a long while I'm impressed with an upcoming game. Imagine being able to build houses as a group. As a clan you could build a small village and work together to provide the resources needed to survive and to upgrade to a town and expand. Let's say 6 houses and a stable supply of food makes a town and allows you to build a pallisade wall and a limited number of defense towers around the town. And then 12 houses, a weapon smith and 1 military structure makes a city that you can then build a larger, stone wall with a larger number of defense towers around. Clans could be up to 30 players big and would all start as homeless,, trekking nomads. Explorers could scout for villages or cities of other player clans or NPC clans and ask them if they want to trade. Through trade, food, seeds for crops, donkeys to aid in farming & resource transport, weapons & armor, wood & stone to build with, mercenaries & pretty much everything else can be attained. Animals can be hunted for food and hides, farms can be built and worked for food, different metals & different types of stone can be mined...etc. RTS elements, but in a 3rd person perspective, open world survival game. It'll be interresting to add 30 NPC warriors to each clan's army, so the total amount of men in the whole clan army number 60. Defense towers would automatically be manned by their own NPC ranged units, as well as the rampards on the walls. Same for rampard mounted & mobile siege weapons; Ballistas, Mongonels & Trebuchets. The mining mechanic in this game is really fantastic too. Would allow not only for resource mining, but also for carving out secret underground escape tunnels, great halls, treasure/resource vaults with lockable vault doors, even for undermining enemy walls and defense towers (and subsequently blowing up & collapsing said walls/towers from below) Being capable of building great, defensible cities, but having to start as hunting & forraging nomads. Having to chose between keeping the army at home and your city being optimally defended or sending 1/3rd or 1/2 of your army out to raid other clans' towns and cities. Villages would be easy to raid, but the reward would be low. Towns would be harder to raid, but the reward is higher. Cities would be the most difficult to raid, but the reward would be the highest. Let's say each server would have 6 clans, with each up to 30 players (+30 NPC soldiers), and they all start as primitive, lightly armed nomad clans at different corners of a large hexagonal open world map. At first they would be hunting and gathering and looking for a suitable place to start a village. They would need a freshwater source. A river, a lake or a groundwater reservoir. Enshrouded's digging mechanic could allow for finding underground water reservoirs and digging wells to them. Perhaps wells could have windwills built ontop of them to pump up water into irrigration canals too. All of this from 3d person perspective, riding your hourse through town, upgrading wells, farms, towers...etc. Buying horses on the market to work your farms in times of peace, to help you fight in times of war and to generally get around the world fast. Cutting wood to build houses or boats. Boats for fishing, or for plunder & warfare. Could be interresting. I hope Enshrouded will be in perpetual development for a long time and reach such depths.
I think I read somewhere else that there are limitations to shapes because the game uses cube voxels, but I saw some cylindrical pillars in one of the build videos so it's possible that larger furniture-esque items could help bridge the gap over this technical limitation.
I have seen many people saying that they would also like to see some curves being in the game i hope we can bring this to the attention of the Devs. Devs please gib Curves.
I built two beautiful adjacent Hobbit Houses - one for me and another for the Blacksmith you can find. With the Blacksmiths home I built the Forge and also a Chimney that exhausts the smoke produced. I've extended my own Hobbit Home into almost labyrinthine size - I actually consider this the best building mechanic I've ever used in a game, second only to 7D2D's mechanics. Having talked to hundreds of fellow players - I'd have to say that the building mechanics (which is soooo often overlooked) is nearly always a major factor in the success of a game of this genre.
I am so excited for this game. If I could pre-purchase this game, I would. I loved Portal Knights, I know I'll love this one as well. @keen Games, you guys rock. Now hurry up and release the game!! lol
This is looking insanely good, but is there any way to make diagonal buildings? They should really look into Valheim's way of rotating buildings if they haven't already!
The way the two games are built is fairly different. Enshrouded uses voxels which are basically defined cubes stacked on top of each other and then rendered as they're told to. It's not technically impossible for them to do diagonal walls I'd imagine but it would not be anything like Valheim.
To me it looks like there isn't that much you have to consider while building. If there was something like realistic statics I don't think that tower at the end was possible to do. Of course it's just an assumption so o could be wrong about it.
I had built the Eckmul lighthouse in Everquest Landmark back when the game was running... I'm looking forward to do it again in this game ! A question, will you be able to place light sources ?

Please consider this feedback. Make this game more MMO, bigger worlds for a more online collaborative play-style. Don't go for this client hosted servers, because this will be almost as a single player title. Create big servers for thousands of players to play all together. This is what is missing in the survival general.

It would be a waste of the possibilities shown here. I would rather like if this was more like a realistic Minecrafts, with all the possibilities to create whole worlds.
Looks quite nice ngl. but the fact that you seem to be forced to go only rectangular, with buildin AND placing furniture and stuff - takes away a huge amount of creative freedom, at least for me. I realy hope that will be tackled whilst building the game further up. because it would be a damn shame if we where that capped in such a beauty.
