    I just did this fix on my 2001 Grand Marquis and my car was terrible. I'd think it was in "Park" and it'd go in reverse, very unsafe. The fix worked perfectly and can't thank you enough, but...a tip for everyone, at least with my old car, I had to remove this small (and sharp) plastic shroud to even be able to see the two bolts. I'm so happy though, it functions like a new car off the lot. Hats off to you, friend! 🎩

    Dude!!! I just got done tightening those T30s as you pointed out in your VERY HELPFUL video. Voila!! Like brand New. Thank you so much. I really appreciate your advice. To think I got quoted $150 to diagnose the problem at a local Ford dealership. Your advice saved me $$$. Once again, thank you!. Oh yeah, I got a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis LS.👍

    Had the same problem on my '99 Town Car...was going to swap out the shifter bushings but I saw this video and sure enough, one of the bolts was literally about to fall out, the other one was 1/2 way there...tightened them up and problem solved, thanks for the video!

      Thank you! I know I dont make the best videos but I try and hope it helps someone, so I'm very happy it helped! Mine was the same the first time I did this, I actually found one of the bolts on the floor and kept it in the ashtray for like 2 years until I was like "there's gotta be a way to fix this sloppy shift select issue" and sure enough I wound up finding all the bolts loose and where the random one should go lol.

    It took longer to put the plastic protective cover for the bottom of the dash back in place with the three plastic push pins than it did to find and tighten the loose bolts, 21 years of working their way out and 1 minute to tighten.This car is a keeper only replaced wiper motor and plastic intake manifold in 21 years!

      Hello, this is located up under the dash, behind the steering wheel. You'll need to get on the floor of the car and basically look up above the gas/brake pedal to see everything.

    This is very good information. My 2001 Grand Marquis has gotten worse with this problem. I've been putting it off due to the fact that my younger days of doing my own custom audio installs are behind me and my lower lumbar region is shot. I've got the blue and the red (permanent) LocTite on hand, should I just use the blue in case I would ever need to replace the bracket? What say ye?

    • @scarr3ll
      @scarr3ll  Рік тому +2

      The loctite part is up to you lol. Although I wouldn't think you'd need to make it more permanent by using the red lol

      @Scarrell ~ Thanks for the reply. I'll be getting at it first thing in the morning. I sure hope this is what's wrong. It takes me several tries just to get the car to actually be in Park and not Reverse! It's gotten so bad that yesterday I got on the highway and the indicator said it was in Drive, but it was in 2nd. Lol.

      Look up about the transmission linkage under the vehicle. Its not TOO hard but it'll take some effort to move the linkage by hand, into park. You'd have to do that everytime if you wanted to use the car, get under it, put it drive to start it, have someone hold the brake, then put it in drive and youre ok. But you'll have to turn the car off in drive when at destination and have to chaulk the tire, let the exhaust cool down to be able to reach for the linkage and put it back into park or nuetral to start it and then back into drive..etc. quite the pain in the ass to do if you plan to use it daily with it broken

      Have to snake around no matter how you do it but, i just have the seat adjusted all the way back, lift the arm rests up, basically have your butt in the drivers seat, but you're facing the passenger seat, legs in passenger seat, swivel your butt and legs to the right and watch your head so you don't hit steering wheel when turn and shit lol, and just wiggle your way under.
      Im 6'4 so its not easy to do no matter how i try it, but that way works easiest for me

      @@scarr3ll I checked it out, four easily accessable bolts, move the seat forward for back bolts, move it back for front bolts,, all the room my fat old ass needs!! My old lady never says anything until the car won't move, she wanted to have it towed!!!! Anyway it's much easier for us oldsters to remove four bolts an get that driver side part of the front seat The Fuck Out Of The Way!! FYI bro, UA-cam asked, and I gave you give stars!!!

    Bro I thought I had it in park. Left it running. Starts reversing as I went inside to grab water. In reverse, hit my uncle's truck and side swipped:/

    • @scarr3ll
      @scarr3ll  3 роки тому +1

      Same happened to me, which lead me to making the video lmao. Pulled up to the gas station to grab something, put it park(so I thought) and came out my car was gone. Thought it was stolen for a second, it ended up rolling backwards, into 2 lanes of traffic and whipped around and hit a pole by the sidewalk. A couple feet more it probably would have went into the buildings, and miraculously didn't hit anyone or any vehicle. Some random people help me push it back to the gas station, and I had to reset the fuel pump or whatever it is in the trunk, to get the car to start again. Only damage to the car was a tiny bit of the passenger taillight busted and small dent in rear fender lol.

      Two things. You need to be mechanically inclined and not obese to do this job. You need to get under the dash,behind the steering wheel, while upside down. Good luck.
