Thanks alot for posting this vid!
Went to put my 98 Vic in park and it went into reverse lol. Managed to find drive and limped home and found one of the bolts on the floor. Your vid helped me find where it went.

Nice! Glad you found it! UA-cam has been a great help for me as well on numerous projects.

I learned a couple things. but there is an easier way. First disconnect the battery. Then NEVER PRY ON THE IGNITION SWITCH, turn it to the run position and stick a small screwdriver into the hole under the ignition switch push up on it and turn the key. The whole lock cylinder comes out itbtakes 3 seconds. Then just drop the column. No need to remove your entire dash.

Watching your video to help out brother in law with same issue. You are a saint. I'd be serving up some curse bombs doing this job. My fat hands and dashboards don't mix.

How do you remove the pin that holds the shifter lever?
Just wack it with a hammer??

My 97 crown Victoria police escort LX series is not going in park, thanks for the video.. one question how do you get the smooth black plastic screws off a fork?

I have an issue with my 1998 crown LX where the electrical will go out in low gears (possibly other gears but it only happened in lower gears for me). The power steering would immediately cut of and it wont even try to crank when you turn the key, only the dash board lights would cut on. Do you think you might know a potential cause? Im getting desperate.

Our car did that also and it finally went away when we charged the ignition switch. We searched wires, battery terminal, we changed the connections on the battery, but we noticed that the ignition switch was loose and after charging it the problem of acting like it was going to cut off or the times that it actually would all went away after the switch replacement. Hope this helps.

My mechanic replaced the bushings on my column shifter. It wasn't as bad as this.

It was quite extensive to get this little thing replaced. All the covers that had to come off, geez

@@JonathanLovelace I meant the gear shift wasn't as loose as what you show in the video. I'm sure the job was just as bad.

I live in North Carolina and have a job, although not fixing cars. Garages or several of my friends know way more and have better tools than me. I’m just a guy that saves money to do my own repairs sometimes.

You couldn’t make enough money to buy a Ford if you just work on them, because they don’t break enough. 😜
