- This video will show you how to adjust and repair the shift lever indicator on various years and models of Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles. Ford Ford has used this type of shift indicator for many years but over time and high usage makes the plastic piece that holds the shifter cable become brittle and ends up breaking which throws off the shift indicator dial. I bought the upgraded aluminum one off Amazon and listed below is a link to it.

You are awesome! Thank you for the clear and thorough instructions on this repair. You've empowered this 74 year old woman to feel confident in attempting this. Very well shot too!
This has driven me crazy. Thank you.
Just ordered one for my mom's 99 explorer after taking it apart today to find that plastic was broken, Thank you for the info.
Excellent tutorial, this is what an aftermarket part should be. I bought one of these for my ‘99 Ranger, fixed it up superbly. Ford should’ve had a metal one of these from the factory instead of the cheap plastic crap one that breaks on every vehicle that uses this shifter system.
This is a fantastic How To..very clear, great video and thorough from start to finish, Thank you
Best video on this repair on all of UA-cam! Thank you for such a detailed video
Thank you without you I wouldn’t know this part existed
2004 f250 here I ordered the same part .thanks for the excellent video !
Great video, ordering the part now, thanks!
Came here to say if you grab any plastic piece in my truck like you did in this video they will crumble in your hands. You can’t take my clips out without them breaking one time use on my truck after 20 years
Excellent video! This worked to the T for my 2003 Supercrew F150!
Just what I needed! Thanks!
great video, it made the repair easy
I have a 1998 Ford Expedition with the exact problem. Your awesome thanks.
Great video on this repair
Thanks video was excellent! Help me out. Was gonna take it to the shop.
Worked for my 1996 Ford Explorer XLT, except you need to file the little metal nub on the inside bracket just a little so the wheel can turn freely and not bind up as it does when just try to put it in the brand new metal bracket. (The original Ford plastic bracket had a hair more space between the inside bracket ends. The Chinese metal replacement part is not made as exact!)
AWESOME!! EXACTLY what I was looking for!! Will same me some $$ THANK YOU!
Real good how to. 5 stars!
Thanks!
