This is one of the best How-To videos I've ever seen on UA-cam for any genre. The angles from the video camera are perfect -- and extremely close-up -- for seeing and understanding where all parts are located. And the step-by-step by XJ Jesse is meticulous, unrushed and extremely easy-to- understand. I've been searching and searching for a How To on bringing the air filter, MAF and electronic throttle body up-to-spec and this one delivered completely. Truly excellent video! THANKS!
U have the same color merc as me. Mines a 04 limited addition. I'm at 406,000 miles n I love my merc. You ate definitely o e of the more thorough UA-camrs when it comes to the merc n I really appreciate you. I'll be following you for at TFn least till I get rid of my merc. Which hopefully is a very long time from now
You give me hope just bought an 03 with 180,000 everyone says I got got but I see nothing but potential in this beauty… never loved a ca like I love this one!
Thanks man, My 98"Mercury Grand Marquis would slow down and lose power and the big yellow check engine light would come on as soon as I reached a speed of 30 miles or more. I had to take the local streets and not the BQE, on my eleven mile commute to work everyday. My work day starts at 7 AM, and the traffic on the BQE can be pretty bad even at a the early hour of my commute, but it's sill not as bad as stopping on every block corner for a light or stop sign. I was afraid I would have to bring my car to the mechanic and they would've probably charged me an arm and a leg whether they found the problem and fixed it or not. Which would have costed me a fortune, because today's mechanics don't really fix anything, they're just more like parts replacement specialists. So even if they did get it right, and replaced my MAF sensor, and air filter, they probably wouldn't have taken the time to clean out the throttle body as you showed how to do in your video. But I doubt that they would've figured it out in the fist place because my car was testing ok, no problems, with that plug in under the dash board problem code tester device thing. So I first seen your video on this past Thursday night, and on my Friday night commute home, I stopped in my local AutoZone and bought the MAF cleaning spray and a new air filter you showed in your video. We had a bad weather forecast coming in for later Saturday afternoon, so I woke up early and basically did everything you showed to do exactly the same. Then I took my car on the highway and opened up the throttle to 80 without losing power, or getting a ticket, just to see if I could, and all I have to say is thanks man. My Grand Marquis is back to normal and did not lose any power going above the speed of 40 mph, as it was doing yesterday. It's snowing now, glad I finished early; for a mechanically inept person, LOL; and was able to test it b4 the snow started falling. Now I'm happy that I'll be back cruising to work; God willing; Monday morning in my "poor man's Town Car", and not my wife's high speed Japanese lawnmower, come Monday morning. Hopefully I can keep this full size car on the road another seven years which is when I'll probably retire, because what they make and call "full size" today just doesn't cut it, and I would hate to have to commute everyday feeling every inch the of road in my 22 miles I travel in my daily round trip commute, until I finally retire. Thanks again, you saved me a few Benjamin's today for sure.
Thats exactly what happened to me yesterday. I have a 92 marquis i have named “Mya” and have had her for about a month. Anyway I got off the highway so the airflow to the engine completely vanished. When i went to hit the throttle on the exit turn i lost all power to the throttle and the car wouldnt go, so i panicked and turned it completely off. Looks like i will have to clean it up this weekend when i get some days off work. I carpool anyway so i wont be driving my baby. You are awesome my guy! I will return to this video this Friday!
Thank you for the video. I have a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis LS and yesterday I was traveling at highway speed and going down hill with the cruise control on I felt this unusually hesitation surging until the highway leveled out.
But that could just be the car adjusting itself due to the incline or decline while on cruise control. My car does this on hilly roads. You told it to go 55 so that's what it is trying to do.
Thanks, I have a 2003 Grand Marquis GS with 221000, and its been running rough. I cleaned the mass air flow sensor and it seemed to help a little for only about 100 miles. My confidants working on vehicles made in the last 25 years is not as good as working on 60s and 70s vehicles .
Now I have the famous P0430 on my 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. The parts online though confuse parts that are recommended to look at that can cause this code. There is confusion between the MAF sensor, MAP sensor, and manifold pressure regulator on eBay and Amazon and other parts internet site.
Why did you replace the K&N filter with a different brand? 2nd, why didn't you add electrode grease to help prevent moisture seepage and corrosion? Also its a good idea to clean the inside of the inlet tube. It builds up dirt and grime especially in the ribbed part.
Helpful video. What year is your grand marquis? I’m looking at mine (it’s a 2005 my) and it doesn’t have that cable at all. I think it’s all electrical like you mentioned earlier. And also the air flow boot looks different on mine as well
Jesse, have you ran into a problem where the IAC create a loud humming noise? I replaced the IAC and it does hum as much but still hums. Any thoughts? Videos?
Did you ever find the problem? I have a 2003 mercury grand marquis it shuts off after a while of driving and no codes present I switched out the alternator and battery as well as other parts I also took it to an electrician and he said everything looked good but still have the problem and no check engine light on or any other but when it turns off while driving all lights turn off but go away.

Less than 2 years ago i did all of this to mine as well as new life time could & the E3 Spat plus that are suppose to increase fuel mileage by 1 mile and unfortunately there is NO difference in my fuel mileage.
what's your thoughts on kn filter vs MAF sensor issues due to oil buildup, i started using motorcraft paper filters for a while and it seems the same or better edit: lol next time I'll comment after watching the whole video
Changed intake manifold on my 2004 Ford Grand Marquis, was running before now she won't start, any ideas out there I'm stuck out of town and want to see my it's been a month since I've seen her, plus miss driving my car
First here's some advice an asshole gave me once "don't fix what ain't broke." That asshole was my dad when I tried to fix my car before going on a date with Rebecca Langford if you know Rebecca then you know she's hot for hotrods anyway wanted to service the engine to give her a few more points to lock it in with Rebecca then like you I fucked it up the car wouldn't start and my dad got Rebecca they been married for a few years now...
My 2003 twice now has just randomly stalled at a stoplight sitting in traffic. I can crank it all I want but it won't start. Then after it cools downs a bit, it will start again after some cranking. I took it to the shop a few weeks ago and it overheated on them, so they replaced the thermostat, the sensor and then the electric fan. Would a dirty throttle body or air filter cause this? It could be several things I know, but only stalling when the engine is hot and starting again once cooled down should narrow it down a bit, but if anyone has some advice, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
Someone please tell me what air intake hose that is. Im trying to get mine replaced on an 04 crown vic. I just want those deadeners off. That hose is what i need. I cant find nothing anywhere
you should be able to get an air intake hose (AKA Zip Tube) off a p71 cop car. they don't have the sound deadeners, alternatively an AFE cold air intake is what I currently run and the induction sounds are really nice, they probably don't pick up any power tho
i have an 01 and had similar issues before winter and during but i cleaned the mass air flow sensor and got a k&n air filter for the stock air filter box and it helped
I’m having problems with mine after a fuel filter change. I got a p1000 code which ended up clearing itself. Now when it’s cold and sat over night the last 2 nights it will start up but stall if I give it any gas. After it warms up for 10’minutes and I restart it a few times it runs normal. Any ideas?
I smashed that Like button brother...gonna check out a few more of your videos but probably gonna hit the Subscribe button too...BTW I inherited my father's 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis LS Ultimate Edition when he passed away (North Carolina Tarheel blue in color if you were wondering)...what year is your Grand Marquis?

What ignition coils do you recommend? Are blue streaks good?

Explained well to the layman - thank you
I started doing this once a year after the salt from winter while changing my air filter
I have a 2005 that's the same color. Great content !
Get the upgraded hard plastic gasket over the paper one and be sure to clean the upper plenum also.
Keep up the video. You are going to be this generations scotty kilmer
Always enjoy your videos bro!
What's the easiest way to change the wire harness on the output sensor on a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis
Would this service be a good time to install a 50mm spacer? And what would that do for our MGM?
Why did you replace the K&N filter with a different brand? 2nd, why didn't you add electrode grease to help prevent moisture seepage and corrosion? Also its a good idea to clean the inside of the inlet tube. It builds up dirt and grime especially in the ribbed part.
Because k&n filters are cyanide to an engine, in my personal experience.
Great content as always Jessi.
What brand are those coil?
Are they good?
@XJ Jesse, what brand of coils are those, and are they good quality, long life?
Did u get them from Rock Auto?

As usual you are right homie
Do you have a video on how to proceed if the check engine light comes on a 97 GM? Thanks
Go to autozone and get them to scan your car for free. Go from there
Would this apply to a 1999 Mercury grand marquis?
I couldn't get my hose clamps off haha had some rush on them
Good work!

I think I need to do this, my Grand marquis is jerking when I have to go back up to speed around 30mph.
I have a 2001 sounds like a pully and it stalls on me some when the engine gets warm I just had timing chain replaced and the guy said oil pump to

Witch oil do you use for your grand marquise?
Hey, what’s up. I use 5W30 high mileage full synthetic, Castro.
What’s the name of the cleaning spray
excellent

Them rear hoses at 1:29 where can I find them. My 03 mgm hoses are all dry rotted
Try your local wrecking yard.
I have a problem with my 2000 grand marquis it cracks but won't start. I've changed the fuel pump. The gas pressure sensor.
Any idea what those hoses are called that you disconnected from the intake?
Yes

Didn't you have a video on how to fix a grand marquis when it won't take fuel? I can't find that video
Have you changed tps sensor before ?
We're putting face sheets on all tps reports so if you could do that for now on that would be great ☕

DID U USE THE MAF SENSOR SPRAY TO CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY ALSO
You’re tripping. 🤦🏽♂️
MAF Sensor Cleaner is for MAF Sensors.
Use Carb & Choke Cleaner for the Throttle Body area.
How about a video on disabling theTPM? Just bought a 2008 Grand Marquis LS 98,000. Hope to get another 100,00 miles out of her.
