Biological diversity refers to the variety of living organisms on Earth and the interactions between them that support all life forms.
We are facing a biodiversity crisis, with one million animal and plant species on the brink of extinction, threatened by human activities that cause habitat loss, pollution, and the climate crisis.
The United Nations proclaimed May 22 as the International Day for Biological Diversity to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues.
The 2024 theme of the International Day for Biological Diversity, “Be Part of the Plan,” appeals to all of us to halt and reverse biodiversity loss.
