all the manufacturers have ready assembly lines, shipping and distribution logistics. they're just waiting for prime time while wringing as much cash they can out of existing setup. anyone who thinks tesla will overtake major manufacturers is delusional.

It's far more dangerous for a front instrument panel that you have to look down and lose sight of the road for a sec while the center display can be seen by just mere eye looking to the right and still have the view of the road.
Nice but as a Tesla owner myself, I can tell you that the current autopilot isn’t as capable as you stated. It certainly can’t change lanes without intervention nor use off-ramps and move to different highways. Hopefully some of that will be coming this year. As you said, the hardware is there but the software isn’t. Right now all it really does is use adaptive cruise control and keep itself in a lane. It will change lanes if you use the indicator and wobble the wheel to let it know you’ve not fallen asleep but it doesn’t make any intelligent decisions about it as far as I can tell.
actually it's because the car will drive itself as well. if the car will drive itself, why would you need a speedometer there? and more, if you want to buy a "3rd party" HUD, you can buy one and fit it in your car

As a mechanic who often fears all of the useless electronics in cars nowadays the Tesla Motors electronic systems I honestly have no worry about I feel like they do a fantastic job with R&D before putting out their product
I’m seriously considering getting this next year . Trading in my Camry for it . The car is just insane with technology. That’s the thing, that I’m sold on. The immense amount of technology you get for under 40k! . A Camry fully loaded is 35k . So it’s truly a given
It isn't that he's down grading it. Tesla has ALWAYS down rated their 0-60/0-100/quarter miles. Their vehicles have always been quicker than their estimated ratings. I wouldn't be surprised if the Tesla Roadster has a 0-60 of 1.5s which they rated at 1.9s or a 7.--s quarter mile which they rated at 8.8s
I think chances of that screen crapping out are low, its never going to get dropped, or damaged. Unless there is a accident, or maybe after years of use
I feel like everyone exaggerates the speedometer location. If you're needing to constantly look at it in any car regardless of its position then you're probably just bad at gauging the speed of your car and the traffic around you. Besides, glancing slightly more to the right doesn't require a full blown head movement like most reviews seem to indicate.
It's actually very easy to see the speed by just shifting you eyes slightly to the right. No head movement is needed at all. It's a big easy to read number, not like old school speedometer gauges, so a quick glace is all it takes.

In reference on his riff on the placement of the speedometer. he said "in unfamiliar terretory you have to constantly look between the road,speed and map wich makes it hard in a tesla" But as he himself demonstrated a tesla has the navigation and speedometer in the same place, making it actually easier then a normal car that needs you to look in 3 diffrerent locations...

Tom Foolery yeah i love it so much i wish it was a standard/mandatory feature incorporated in all cars like bluetooth or a backup cam lol. I mean, they're usually not there if you don't want to see it but there if you do meaning they're usually positioned in a way that don't obstruct you in any way but the most vital info such as fuel level, speedo and sometimes radio channels displayed there help to not look down before toggling on your steering wheel controls to adjust cruise or radio stations
What is it like when you need a repair? Who can you take the car to and how much do repairs cost; either for physical damage due to an accident or something going wrong internally like a damaged screen, battery, breaks, etc?
Afaik, you do have a sweet warranty.About the batteries - they are not one "whole" .They are split in modules, so when a module breaks you can keep driving, altho with a reduced range, and you only need to replace the broken module, so repairs are not that expensive.

I’d like to remind people that the Tesla is not the only car to have the speedometer off to the right. My family’s Prius has a speedometer similar to the model 3’s located near the center of the dashboard. My family has no issues with the placement and therefore, I think they’ll have no issue with our 3 when we get it.
The Model 3 speed indicator is not really near the center of the dash. It's actually just to the right of your hand if you hold the wheel in the 10 & 2 positions. It's very easy to see, and not a issue at all. Way overblown by people who have never sat in or driven a Model 3.

How bad is your tunnel vision that you have to turn your head to see the speedo? Normal people will be able to see their speed with a brief movement of their eyes.
Because you can move your mark 1 eyeball and glance at the screen. But did you absorb any information from it? Looking at it most likely means you are grasping the information. Glancing at your watch, then when you really look at it, you absorb the data. A gauge that shows speed/charge would be good. Or a HUD would be good.
it's easier though when the speedo is right between that little gap in the steering wheel. because you're only slightly looking down VS looking off to the right, it doesn't matter if you turn your head you're still taking your eyes off of the road.

I love those old model 3's. In the newer model 3s, they have tuned the suspension to be softer and the acceleration isn't as powerful in the base model. The old model 3s have a very firm suspension and it makes it super fun sporty car to drive.

The "hub caps" are terrible (but they do add 4% range). You can take them off and there are decent alloy rims underneath.

What is it like when you need a repair? Who can you take the car to and how much do repairs cost; either for physical damage due to an accident or something going wrong internally like a damaged screen, battery, breaks, etc?
Afaik, you do have a sweet warranty.About the batteries - they are not one "whole" .They are split in modules, so when a module breaks you can keep driving, altho with a reduced range, and you only need to replace the broken module, so repairs are not that expensive.

I’d like to remind people that the Tesla is not the only car to have the speedometer off to the right. My family’s Prius has a speedometer similar to the model 3’s located near the center of the dashboard. My family has no issues with the placement and therefore, I think they’ll have no issue with our 3 when we get it.
The Model 3 speed indicator is not really near the center of the dash. It's actually just to the right of your hand if you hold the wheel in the 10 & 2 positions. It's very easy to see, and not a issue at all. Way overblown by people who have never sat in or driven a Model 3.
Family Toyota Echo had it's speedo in the center.
It's not hard, you're just moving your eyes in a different direction.

Because you can move your mark 1 eyeball and glance at the screen. But did you absorb any information from it? Looking at it most likely means you are grasping the information. Glancing at your watch, then when you really look at it, you absorb the data. A gauge that shows speed/charge would be good. Or a HUD would be good.
it's easier though when the speedo is right between that little gap in the steering wheel. because you're only slightly looking down VS looking off to the right, it doesn't matter if you turn your head you're still taking your eyes off of the road.

I drove one with a performance package and was blown away how much torque it has.
i like the car except the screen. looks like an ipad just stuck on the dash. seems incongruent with the concept of the car. also trying to control the car by reading the ipad seems like an accident waiting to happen.
I agree. I kinda wish it had a traditional gauge cluster behind the wheel, and a screen that's more visibly integrated instead of being stuck on like that.
That screen - That obtrusive eyesore - is the reason I'm choosing 'no' as this being my purchase.

the plastic cover is for aerodynamics it gives the car more acceleration and range but you can remove it if you want traditional rims

I love those old model 3's. In the newer model 3s, they have tuned the suspension to be softer and the acceleration isn't as powerful in the base model. The old model 3s have a very firm suspension and it makes it super fun sporty car to drive.

It was rumord that they were going to do that originally but people speculate that is would have cost too much so they didn't.

Same reason BMW makes an M2, M3, M5, M6, etc. Elon already said they would make a performance version of Model 3. Regular non-Performance dual motor Model 3 will be quicker than single motor too. P model will be quicker.
