Lord Grantham's knowledge of Ancient Egypt are a nod to the series location, Highclare Castle, which is owned by the earls of Carnarvon. The 5th Earl of Carnarvon funded the find of Tutankhamon's tomb, and there is a large Egyptian exhibit at the house.
Well such an adorable puppy!! How fun to have a puppy on the set!! I saw on one of the extras pieces included on the DVD set that the puppy was indeed very young and not house broken. He peed quite a lot. And didn't take directions that well, just wanted to play and sleep, which is of course what puppies DO. :-)
A fantastic series. If nothing else the Dowager Countesses one liners are unforgettable. Now that I'm retired I love to use "What is a weekend?" whenever I can.
Nice nod to the former lord of Highclere Castle (where Downton abbey is filmed) George Herbert, 5th Earl of Carnarvon, who was a noted Egyptologist and bankrolled the search for and excavation of Tutankhamun's tomb in the Valley of the Kings.
I loved this moment it shows how his lordship is all about family and loves his dogs ❤ Everyone says that they hate him and yes he has had his faults but so has everyone in the franchise, he really is a kind hearted, family orientated man who wants the best for his family and the place he stays in which he has said himself: "I was born here and I hope to die here" Showing his love for the abbey. It also helped him a lot when he had Isis and ofc Tio because without them he felt like he didn't have a best friend to rely on when he needed it most. ❤
@@l.a.3479 I didn't mean like everyone hates him I meant that he never gets listened to really and gets pushed to the side a bit but I get what u mean 😅
@@gailwebb9619 oh calm down I love Downton Abbey and have watched it many times. I just always found it amusing that he's so blasé about mess that he won't have to clean.

I love this scene. And I have to smile when, warned that the pup is not yet trained, Grantham says, “Oh, I don’t care about that!”. Lucky for him he has a room that cleans itself. 🙄😀
I never understood the dialog of inhave a letter from her, and him replying why didn't she bring it herself?........if she came herself, there would have been no need of a letter, right???.....Love it anyway!!!
Lord Grantham doesn’t “care about that”, which is very sweet, except he’s not the one who’ll have to clean it up and get the stains out of the carpets.
Seeing Lord Grantham's eyes widen when he sees the puppy always makes me smile.
Absolutely love that line “he does love his dogs”
The split second shift from High Lord to little boy with a puppy was absolutely adorable. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
love how she calls Tom the most sensible ...
That's because he is.

Everyone’s acting like Violet has sent over a potential terror of some kind because of all the secrecy, and Tom’s just like “yay a surprise!!!” 😍
A mother giving her son a puppy 🥰
The look of delight in his eyes is just wonderful. It feels like the actor himself was genuinely thrilled.

I would never go home.
@@gilliantill1214 The British do have their long rivalry with the French!
That look of complete joy on Lord Grantham's face when he saw that puppy was something amazing to watch.
Rest in peace, cousin Violet ❤
I loved the puppy scene. The Lord's reaction 😮

Tom being the most sensible to the Dowager: that’s really something.
She had a soft spot for Tom and Sybil. Remember she paid for them to come back for Edith’s wedding when they went back to Ireland.
A puppy makes everyone smile

A man and his dog. Doesn’t matter how old they are. They all melt and become little boys with puppies!
Never trust any man who doesn't melt into a puddle at the sight of a puppy.

It was one of the best scenes in any season of Downton Abbey. The series is still one I rewatch often.
I love this puppy scene!
love the show, I binge watch the lot every 18 months or so
Same. I think im round 6 of the show now lol
Same.... currently, I'm on Season 3
I binge it twice a year, usually. Can´t get enough of the whole series. Great characters, great story telling. It never gets boring.
my comfort show, for whenever I am in need
"oh I don't care about that"...yeah because it won't be him cleaning up the puddles. He just increased his staff's workload 😂
And that’s what you got out of this lovely video??

@@gailwebb9619 probably because when you watch something multiple times you start to see extra things you don't pick up on the first time
You clearly don't know this character or this show well.
What a touching moment! Thank you.
One of my favorite scenes in the show! Dogs are the best!
I have watched Downton Abbey so many times and dearly enjoy it. Huge fan of Maggie Smith 😊

Puppy~!😍🐕🐶
We watch this show every Saturday night, on Blu-ray. 😍
His lordship DOES love a puppy…
Such a great show.
Dame Maggie Smith, we miss you so much, fly high Miladay 💔

What private plane?
Crawley. Argh.

Hes always respected and love his staff. He throws them their weddings. Give me a break.
