Thanks for your lovely recipe. Does anyone know what potato powder is please? Is it the same as potato starch, or the package type you make mash potato from?
Very good tutorial. Will make it soon. One question - the Puff pasty roll comes rolled in Butter paper. Can we use it to line and bake the Pasties in the oven? Many Thanks
I read the comments and realized it's mash. Mine turned out too sweet as I probably cooked the onions too long. According to the recipe the cheese was less also.. so the flavor is missing totally. I will try again next time and see how it goes! Working so hard for a pasty because living in the US where they have absolutely atrocious food
Recipe looks good. But I have a question. Is that correct 3 tablespoons of flour? It seems a bit to much, considering your only using 1 tablespoon of butter, thanks in advance.
You can add more butter of reduce the flour, i did this, so i can add more milk, that way, i get more sauce. It is easy for beginners to add more butter, that way, less chance of getting lumps.
@@CulturedCuisine usually the ratio is 1 tablespoon of flour for every tablespoon of butter, per 2 cups of milk. For a thicker sauce it is more flour, the thickest being two tablespoons of flour per tablespoon of butter per two cups of milk. You can adjust as you wish, like in this recipe.
You can use real potato ,boil then mash them and mix with onion and cheese. I do different ,just fry onion and mix with mash potato ,cheese without to melt cheese ,and make pastry and cook in oven.
Even medicines have alcohol so what? It doesn’t make you drunk so it’s ok. There are far worse things to worry about than small things like this. I mean being in UK is Haraam in itself so we shudn’t even be here let alone be reading the ingredients on a packet of pastry! 😆
I want to know how much milk… oh yes it is 3 tablespoons of flour plus potato powder? I need to watch it again. Wish the recipe was written in the description box.
But that’s what you do when making béchamel sauce, you add it slowly and little at a time otherwise too go lumpy and inconsistent straight away and makes the process longer.

Hi, you can put a bit of normal mash potato, but, you will taste more of the potato then you should. It's more likely gonna taste like potato pastry as suppose to onion. what is the purpose of the potato powder?
Thickens the béchamel cheese sauce.
can use corn starch for the same effect
Or use mashed potato and add grated cheese and chopped fried onion. That's how a cheese and onion pasty should be made
