Great video!! Glad you had success with the paint brush bristle!! I would hate to see what happened after trying to get a cat to cooperate with the whisker idea!! My cats wouldn't go for that! It would end up rrrrrrAAWWWOOO!!!!cut ,bite ,scratch, multiple lacerations!!! Hahaha! 😂!!!!! That's interesting that they take more traits from the father. It's been my experience with Euphorbias that they tend towards the mother more. Or like in the case of my Euphorbia enigma, look like the mother for the first five years, then start showing the other traits of the father. Plants are just so amazing!!! Can't wait to see what you get from these!!! You should also get some different phenotypes! Very exciting!!! Great contest idea also!!! I could have taken a whisker from our chihuahua but I doubt he would have cooperated either 😂 Yeah I thought it was a bit strange when I read the traits from the father plant would be more dominant, I guess it’s a case of just wait and see. Hoping for a nice 50/50 mix on some of them. Really looking forward to seeing what the Hakuma x Tsukikage will look like. Seu vídeo é bem sóbrio e interessante. Me estimulou a tentar fazer a polinização nas Haworthia. Via aquelas minúsculas flores, mas não atinava como eu poderia fazer o cruzamento. Sua dica de procurar imitar a natureza, como no caso da probóscide da abelha, por meio do uso de um fio do bigode do gato foi simplesmente genial. Vou estender o emprego dessa técnica às flores de Aloe e Gasteria. Espero que dê certo a mim e a todos que o fizerem.

Very cool technique. I can apply that too in some cactus flowers. The Eriosyce flowers have very small openings and I was thinking of cutting the flower open. I can try this trick instead. 🙂 Very good video, Daz. Very clear and informative. 👍🏼😃 Looking forward to seeing how the seeds come up to be.

Hello. I greet you from Ecuador. Thank you very much for your explanation. I would like to know if it is possible that seeds are generated from a single individual (self-pollination) or I necessarily require two different ones (cross-pollination).

This is my first seeing pollination using a “cat’s whisker”. Usually it’s with a brush or stick but for the haworthia flowers it worked perfectly even able to bend and twist accordingly. Excellent pollination video Daz. The part where you showed the cross section and labelled the different parts of the flower was very intriguing including seeing you hand pollinate the blooms right up to the formation of seed pots and harvesting. A very informative and clearly demonstrated pollination video, Daz. I’ve no another adjectives to say. Warm greetings from Malaysia to the UK a and Singapore

Crossing those species together is more difficult, but is possible. Unfortunately I have no Aloes in bloom right now and only one Gasteria but I’ll see what I can do. Thanks for watching and commenting 🌵☀️🌼🌺🏜

Thank you for this very informative video guide to pollinating these tiny flowers. It inspired me to pollinate my concurrently blooming Aloe blue elf and Aloe firebird. You make it look easy but it takes a steady hand and a good eye, with the addition of a magnifier for me.... 🤓
Question: do you clean the whisker between flowers? Or cross pollinate back and forth between the two plants?

My hair would be much better because it’s very dark and you can see the pollen on it. Daz’s hair is lighter so might not be able to see the pollen well. 🤣

Oh wow what a great video. Full of information and very interesting what the hybrids going to look like. That’s an amazing pollination. Haven’t seen a haworthia being pollinated before. Haha the cat is so cute. And all the haworthias you showed are all so pretty. So nice to harvest loads of seeds from them too, what a success. Looking forward to see the tiny babies. Can you store polen in case to hey don't flower at the same time?

For the first time ever I have two Haworthia blooming at the same time, although one is just starting and the other is finishing. You'll never guess what I used as a tool, having no cat whiskers available. A rubber toothpick! 😂 There seemed to be a little pollen stuck to it, so here's hoping it released a little of it... I'm wondering if a round toothpick might be better.
That’s great, Janet 😃 You can use anything that’s able to fit inside the flower and pollen will stick to it. Using something soft is safer though as you don’t want to risk bruising the stigma otherwise the pollen won’t take. I think you could successfully use thin long brushes like ones used for nail art.as a dental technician i often use these kind of brushes.

I’m a cactus guy but love these as well. I’ve always been told that in cacti that the mother gives 3/4 of her genetics and the father 1/4

@@Cactimania what ever the flower of choice you choose obviously will be the female. Like say you see a tag say” Rosie2 X Sharxx Blue “. There is a set placement I always get them confused myself but for my points sake let’s say the first name is the males genetics and second the females. If you find out which is the correct order pls let me know again. Thanks. I hope this helps you some how when determining which parent will put forth more genetics. Oh what brought me to your vid is my haworthia are about to bloom.

Im so mad at myself right now. Thought it was a random seed in the pot sprouting so pulled it............will it try to come back or better luck next year??
It likely won’t come back. Usually if the roots come away from a tiny seedling it’s pretty much done for 🌵☀️🌼🌺🏜

@@Cactimania fasciata. Pretty sure no off shoot and my other succulents are the only plants around it so thats why the cotyledon confused me. Looks like a long stemmed cotyledon. I dipped it in root powder haha

you should definitely NEVER cut one of your cats whiskers as they rely on them for multiples things and can become stressed and disoriented if trimmed. yes they grow back but this doesn't mean it is okay to go and trim them. so fine use it if your cat happens to shed one but i cannot stress it enough. DO NOT TRIM YOUR CATS WHISKERS!
I agree, and I never encouraged anyone to cut a whisker off their cat. A bristle from a paintbrush works just as good.

I didn’t use a cats whisker, I used a bristle from a paint brush. And actually yes, they do grow back.
If you own a cat you find whiskers all over the house. You just save them. As easy as that. No one here is pulling whiskers out of their cats faces.
