How to Pollinate Succulent Seeds - Making A Romeo Hybrid
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 жов 2021
- Succulents produce flowers. The flowers produce seeds. But first, they have to be pollinated to produce seeds. When succulents are flowering, is also the perfect time to create your own succulent hybrid. Echeveria agavoides Romeo is a beautiful plant that I want to hybridized with an Echeveria Bloody Maria.

Oh my GOD…the spotted Romeo is ❤️❤️❤️❤️
One day I hope to cross pollinate Graptopetalum paraguayense and an echeveria agavoides with pink tips. Thank you for sharing with us!
와우 유익한 방송입니다.
Very lovely plant my new friend
Thank you so much 🙂
i am finally convinced... i will be your top FAN. oh Ms Liz, you are very talented person.
Very exciting!
Exciting!!!! See you in the next one .
Cant wait the results😘🤗
can't wait to see!
Oh all your plans are so nice and beautiful😍🥰sana all😍😍😍
Thank you for sharing po. I hope to see them soon. 🌸
Thank you for sharing beautiful and amazing succulents lovely blooming flowers have a blessed day my friend
Thank you! You too!
I love that you’re doing this step-by-step with us! Is there a timeframe that you have to wait to take the seeds out of the pods? I pollinated my blue sky and my topsy-turvy and I have the dried flowers in a tray I have not tried to extract seeds yet. Do I have to extract the seeds right away?
It will be on the next video. Thank you!😉
Hope to see the update of cross pollination
Hhi Liz, would love an update of what you ended up with.
I haven't planted the seeds yet. 😂 I know it's been a while. Just couldn't find the time.
🤗
I want to see the results 😁
🩵 might you have interest to create a follow up video on cross breeding results? I am very curious ✨🌱💚
Did not have time for the last 3 years due to my husbands illness and after his recent death and my beloved pets death....I did not have time for much, let alone growing these collected seeds. I might do one in the future. Have to start all over again. Have a great day! 🥰
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK you are far from starting over; you are just entering a new volume in the book of life 🩵 may the wisdom & memory of the beloved, guide you through a peace of love & joy, that many of us enjoy in your videos, but most importantly, within the healing that is needed to be done (we can all be patient, surely - please put your needs first) 🩵
By the way my husband wants me to get your 🦉 thumb nail if that's what is called, as a tattoo. Lol
That's funny...😂
With the flowers having both pistil and stamen would it be better to isolate the pistil by removing the stamen in order to ensure that your only fertilizing the plant with the intended pollen and avoid self pollinating while trying to breed the two specific plants?
I mainly cross pollinate to fertilized the seed pod. Most of the plants I have are either hybrids or tissue cultured plants and will produce many variations no matter how stringent the procedures.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Ah that makes sense. Sorry if my comment seemed rude or anything. Great video and there’s not enough information out there for actual breeding of succulents rather than propagating clones. Great video and appreciate you taking the time to spread awesome information!
Loved the video. I'd like to know if there is a criteria in choosing the plants to cross pollinate. And I suppose there's no limit to the genre ( Graptoveria x echeveria or whatever). Thank you. Liz! Oh and another question, my flower buds always carry tons of black aphids. how do you maintain them aphids-free?
You'll have to watch the next video to this.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Looking forward to it! ☺
Too bad I don't have Agavoides Romeo yet, but I do have Agavoides Corderoyi in bloom☺. I'll try crossing it with another Echeveria that is in bloom
I also asked the question if my string of watermelons could potentially have seeds in the fluffy part of the bloom because I'm not sure how to know like it was easier to know on my string of hearts because they came directly from the seed pod, but I'm not sure what I'm doing with the watermelons. My point of all of that was I asked it on another one of your videos and I should have waited till I found this one lol
The fluffy bit is a dispersal mechanism of the plant. The wind will blow and scatter the seeds located at the tip of the fluffy bit. I usually spread them in the soil and water them or a light sprinkling of soil on top also helps to keep them down.
Next year you will have new babies hybrid
Hopefully. Thanks Lele.
Have you sprouted the seeds? Are there any updates?
Haven't had a chance yet.
Hi Liz, do you cross pollinate just to obtain a new hybrid or because seeds can’t grow on their own without this process? Secondly, how you can tell which one is the recipient? Or simply you choose any 2 you like to cross pollinate together? Thank you in advance!!
They need to be pollinated to have seeds. As explained in this video. The pollen is the male(Bloody Maria). The female(Romeo) is the recipient. I'm hoping to get a black Romeo with spots.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK I didn’t know in the first place that they can’t have seeds if they’re not pollinated. It seems long process to grow the seeds under light or warm place. Anyway I hope that you will get what you’re after. Thanks again!
Hi, if you’re pollinating the same plant and not cross breeding, do you just stick that brush into the other flowers? And then wait for the flower to close which means it’s fertilized if I’m understanding correctly? Thanks!
Yes, exactly. Wrapping the whole flower stalk with lace or sheer materials also prevent contamination from other pollen.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK thank you!
Hi miss Liz quick question lang po I have a purple polidonis eceveria and another one thats dark green in color I just dont happen to know the name but I have tries propagating it for so many times it even came to a point that one of them died maybecause I took too much of the leaves but Im reall have a hard time propagating it with leaves. Can you give me some tips as I tried drying them and just placing the on paper towels on top of the soil and even tried water propagation non of these worked...
Most of my newly bought young plants, I try to avoid removing the leaves to propagate. I wait till they get a bit more mature.
Depending on the pulidonis hybrid, some of them can take forever to grow from leaf or even pup up.
I haven't has a chance to propagated pulidonis from a leaf yet. Pulidonis can grow babies quite easily, so I prefer to take the babies to propagate rather that leaves.
Oh thats why... thanks for the info... salamat sa pag reply po palagi. ingat po kayo jan and salamat sa mga vids niyo po
What if I’m a beginner who doesn’t have the handy things how would I breed them ????
Hangy
All you need is a brush or cotton buds or your finger to cross pollinate. The rest doesn't matter.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK but I don’t have a flower we’re to I brush it ?
@@carsonstruble858 You'll have to wait till it does.
So can you cross pollinate or whatever this process is called, with any blooms that are opened on any type of succulent? Or do they have to have something specific about them that makes it work? I feel like I'm missing something here that you said that I'm not understanding cuz it is hard for me to understand things sometimes but now I'm going to be researching like crazy because.
The bees and insects usually do this, but you can pollinate (DIY) the blooms with itself or another plant that's also flowering/blooming at the same time.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK I finally figured this out by watching your videos for hours the other day. The same day I made all the comments on your videos on UA-cam 😊 I am so happy I learned this and can't wait to see what I can get from cross-pollinating. Thank you for all the awesome information! 😊
