You don't have to sterilize the rice or the ziploc bags. The rice from the 90 Second rice bags he uses in the video are already sterile. The inside of the ziplocs are sterile, too. Just need an SAB to do the transfers. As for the coco coir, I would definitely sterilize that, though. I've only gotten contam when I didn't. Good luck.

Yes. You are right. I'd been using the Ketchup Cups for a while and liked using one of them per bag because it colonizes so fast - it's always a race against contamination... But these are bigger, so I can use half or less of these. I do like making one or more super fast (6 to 8 days) Grain Spawn bag and then going G2G from then on.
@@aceylaboy9773 Yeah, you'll get much better yield from shoe boxes. More flushes too. The idea behind the "Ziploc all the way" is to get people into the hobby. It's a very easy way to start growing. Then you can get into more complicated Teks. I show how to do all sorts of stuff in the Course... But honestly, I've been using straight Ziplocs lately because it's so easy. But I like the process, so I don't worry much about yields. I'm hoping this helps more people get into this.

@@SillyWabbit120 I spray it as often as necessary to keep it cycling between humid and dry. Evaporation is the #1 factor for pinning. You don't have to start spraying right away. It'll take a few days to start evaporating. In the Patreon Course, I have two whole lessons about humidity control.
I always go straight to Fruiting. A few strains are more picky and you can't case them and go straight to Fruiting, but hardly ever grow those. ua-cam.com/video/gSg9j5SV3Pc/v-deo.html
Let me clarify: you can inoculate a sealed jar through a Self-healing along Injection Port, but the Mycelium needs to breathe to multiply/grow. See this video: ua-cam.com/video/EONAPLO_4CM/v-deo.htmlsi=bE3ZVKeP91GdxDhe
They don’t actually need air exchange at that point. They simply need to be able to expel co2. So when we do jars we just leave the lid a little loose. Source: many years and many batches of mushrooms grown🤣
Yep. But you can't see what's going on in there. It can be contaminated but looks nice and white in the bottom window. That didn't work for me. Also, it colonizes waaaaayyyyy faster in the Ziploc.
@@KitchenMycology wtf.... I'm very impressed with your video and really appreciate you for sharing this.. THANK YOU!!! When you initially dumped the rice into the Ziploc, did you do anything to it?? DON'T shake it up after inoculation. >> Also after you burnt the holes, did you cover them with micro spore tape? ** No, after Spawn to Bulk, you need plenty of Fresh Air Exchange (FAE) and it's not as prone to contam. Hey there. This is the video that turned me on to wanting to try out ziploc bags. But in this video, why do you say spores are faster than agar? Established mycelium is always faster than spores; especially after isolating strong genetics. Did you mean something else?
No. You need to process the coir and pasteurize it before use. This video is a compilation of several video lessons from the Course. Everything is explained in derltail there.
I use about 1:1 to 1:1.5 Spawn:Coir ratio, but you can go higher on Coir. About 2cc of LC or Spore Syringe. This is a compilation of a few Video Lessons from my Patreon Course. I go into a lot of details on Patreon: Patreon.com/KitchenMycology
For the Spawn Bag, Yes. For colonizing grain (the small Rice or Popcorn Ziploc, I cover with Micropore Tape). Just like you see in the video. Think about it: Do we cover any Vent holes in a Shoe Box or larger Tub? No...
The more the merrier. 😜 Depends on how much Agar you're comfortable with using. I always have a lot so I do the extravagant amount of one whole cup per bag or jar. But if you don't want to be wasteful, use 1/4 to 1/2 cup per bag/jar.
That's the #1 Question I always get. No need to sterilize the Ziplocs, they're they're sealed/closed and sterile out of the box. I go into all the details in my Full Course on Patreon.
Some people just use a few pieces of Colonized Agar to Grain. These cups are larger than Ketchup Cups, so you could do half a cup. I have plenty, so I use the hole cup. It Colonizes the grain in 8 days or even faster. If you use a few pieces, it'll just take longer. Also, using more Agar and colonizing faster, gives little time fr competing nasties to grow in the grain. It's a give and take - balancing act...
Also, you can inoculate the first rice bag with Agar or LC/Spores and then use that bag to inoculate 10 bags with Grain to Grain. G2G is VERY Fast too.
The more mycelium you add the faster the results. So, In theory yes you could use a sliver of agar but why? It’s so easy to make. I used to slice my agar up before inoculation but it’s not even necessary. Simply save a step and add the whole thing to the grain. Less chance of contamination and you can simply shake the grain once the mycelium starts to take hold. It will distribute that way.
@@thorny3218 I've seen people ddo this. Drop the whole thing in there... I've never done it myself, thinking that the smaller the chunks and the more spread out they are in there the faster it will colonize. I see your point about less chance for cantamination. I have to experiment and see which one is better.
@@ItsCheechFool They say all sorts of things 😂 - It's a race against contamination. The more Substrate compared to Spawn, the slower the colonization, so nasty stuff has more time to breed and out-compete your mycelium. So you'll have to pay more attention to humidity etc if you choose that route. I've settled with 1:1 to 1:1.5 myself, but it's a personal preference. Different strains have different needs as well...
@@KitchenMycology gotcha so 1:1.5 can produce fat yields is what you saying ? I think ima just go straight to mono tub grow. 4 quarts of spawn to a whole bucket of cvg
@@ItsCheechFool The reason I like small Tubs is that if a Big tub gets Contaminated, or has some other issue, All your eggs are in one basket. If you have 4 shoe boxes and one goes bad, you have three left. Also, shoe boxes, or Ziploc bags are much easier to harvest than a huge tub. But again, it all boils down to personal preference. I've been having fun with Spawning to Gallon Ziplocs. It's so easy and humidity control is almost set it and forget it.
I take it these bags would melt straight away in a PC or instant pot. I don’t like the idea of transferring sterile grain into the bags as it opens up more room for contam.
Ziplocs are sealed and sterile in the box. I dump sterile grain in Ziplocs all the time. Works like a charm. They melt, but there's no reason to sterilize them.
@@KitchenMycology just one more question, when it comes time to fruit I see you add the FAE holes and mist the bag but do you leave it until fully grown after that or is there still manual air exchange that you need to do?
@@retropursuit992 I treat it exactly like a shoe box tub: open, spray when needed, close. Let them grow all the way in the bag. Oh. I go go straight to Fruiting Conditions.
I agree. What I meant to say is tat it's much faster to INOCULATE the bag with a syringe. I can see how it can be confusing, the way I said it. Sorry about the confusion.
Spore syringes even faster than agar ?? I agree with liquid culture bejng faster but spore to grain is not faster and it's much more likely to contaminate

I have a video on that here:

Do you cover those holes with micropore tape?
I've never had to, but if you're worried about contamination, you can. Then remove the tape after pinning. 😎👍🏼
Are you storing in a closed area or tent.? I’m not so I worry about contamination

You need to pasteurize it and bring it to Field Capacity.

So no micropore tape on the holes that you burnt through with the soldering iron?
Sorry that I missed this message! I don't cover the Air/Vent Holes and I've never had an issue with Contamination. You can cover them with 1" wide Micropore Tape if you like. You may have to remove it after pinning to get more FAE (Fresh Air Exchange). One plus is that you may not have to spray for a while if you do cover the holes. 🍄❤️

This is great, thank u so much. Here in argentina its almost impossible to afford commercial bag teks, this makes my first grow experience much easier and affordable. I just wanted to ask how should i esterilize the grain and the substrate, should i make it on those ziploc bags or in glass stuff and then put them on the ziploc? I dont know if the plastic would melt and screw up everything, if u could help me with that would be great, thank u!
Pd: ive just read that ziploc bags generally can be up to 450°C and i think that the esterilization is around 120°C, hope it works haha
Ziplocs melt in the Pressure Cooker so you have to sterilize grain in jars and then you dump it in the Ziploc. This way, you don't have to modify the jar lids.
Ziplocs are sealed and sterile in the box.
This Fast Track video is just a short compilation of different lessons. I have very detailed video lessons in my Patreon, but here's the Popcorn Tek video:

Hope this helps!
Good luck.
Can you transfer to a tub?
Sure. I like Shoeboxes
Where did you get the mycelium? Or how did you grow it? I just don't know...
This video is a compilation from many video lessons from my course. You start from a Spore Print or from Liquid Culture... I have the whole detailed course on Patreon.com/KitchenMycology
I have a lot of lessons on this channel as well. It's a lot easier to go through the step by step course though. 😎👍🏼
I see you put holes at top of bag at 3 min 45 sec and just wondering if you put any holes at bottom of bag near substrate.
No. I don't. I tested the CO2 Holes and didn't see a difference in performance. I prefer less holes.
Do you cover the holes with micropore tape? Or just leave open? Seems easy to get contam. 😢
No, You don't cover those holes with tape.
Isn't a whole petri dish a tad overkill for one rice bag?
What was the dirt you know what? What are you using for that?
If you mean what substrate, it's Coco Coir.
I have a Uncle Ben rice bag that i injected yesterday. Is it safe to transfer the rice to a ziplock bag now? After I injected yesterday.
@@Birkrl Oh yeah. As long as you're clean - use a Still Air Box or Laminar Flow Hood.

very cool! been thinking of trying this out!! what was your total dry weight after both flushes?
I usually don't weigh, but I've gotten 140g Wet.
So around half oz. Not bad considering

Hi,
:)
When do you open up the bag? Or do you leave it zip locked with the FAE holes all the way until harvest? 😮
Mushlove
I open it only to spray and close it back up. The FAE Holes at the top keep the microclimate nice and humid, ajd evaporating at a perfect rate.
@@KitchenMycologyHi do you only spray Once when sending to Bulk?
@@SillyWabbit120 I spray it as often as necessary to keep it cycling between humid and dry. Evaporation is the #1 factor for pinning. You don't have to start spraying right away. It'll take a few days to start evaporating.
In the Patreon Course, I have two whole lessons about humidity control.
How do you use popcorn in your ziplock bags? How do you get the popcorn sterile?
I have a video explaining it here:
ua-cam.com/video/NnaOKZvgQOM/v-deo.htmlsi=xszV2JFG12jZj17A
Then you just dump it in the Qt Ziploc - in a SAB, of course.
Should I seal bag to allow for colonization after spawning to bulk or should I just put it into fruiting conditions
I always go straight to Fruiting. A few strains are more picky and you can't case them and go straight to Fruiting, but hardly ever grow those.
ua-cam.com/video/gSg9j5SV3Pc/v-deo.html
hi the substrate did u pasteurized or you just put it straight in?
Yes. I always pasteurize the substrate. This video is a compilation on several Video Lessons that I go over in detail in the course. 😎👍🏼
Am i missing something? So you still need FAE to incoulate the grain? I've seen people inoculating with tightly closed jar lid
People do all sorts of things. FAE is a must. Mycelium breathes, just like us.
Let me clarify: you can inoculate a sealed jar through a Self-healing along Injection Port, but the Mycelium needs to breathe to multiply/grow. See this video:
ua-cam.com/video/EONAPLO_4CM/v-deo.htmlsi=bE3ZVKeP91GdxDhe
They don’t actually need air exchange at that point. They simply need to be able to expel co2. So when we do jars we just leave the lid a little loose. Source: many years and many batches of mushrooms grown🤣
Did you sterilise the inside of the bag?
Nope. Ziplocs que que are sealed and sterile out of the box. 😎👍🏼
I've seen people inoculate directly into the brown rice bag.
Yep. But you can't see what's going on in there. It can be contaminated but looks nice and white in the bottom window. That didn't work for me.
Also, it colonizes waaaaayyyyy faster in the Ziploc.
@@KitchenMycology All good points!!
@@KitchenMycology wtf.... I'm very impressed with your video and really appreciate you for sharing this.. THANK YOU!!! When you initially dumped the rice into the Ziploc, did you do anything to it?? @@chicofromph33nix64
>> When you initially dumped the rice into the Ziploc, did you do anything to it??
** No need to sterilize the Ziplocs, they're they're sealed/closed and sterile out of the box. That's the beauty of it!
>> How many CC of spore or LC would you recommend?
** About 2cc per Rice/Ziploc Bag. DON'T shake it up after inoculation.
>> Also after you burnt the holes, did you cover them with micro spore tape?
** No, after Spawn to Bulk, you need plenty of Fresh Air Exchange (FAE) and it's not as prone to contam.
I only cover the Rice/Grain Ziploc with Micropore Tape immediately after inoculation. If you don't, you will get contamination for sure.

@@KitchenMycology wow, thank you for answering my questions.. I'll avoid asking questions on here and will move over to patreon since yt is getting weird about certain topics
Hey there. This is the video that turned me on to wanting to try out ziploc bags.
But in this video, why do you say spores are faster than agar? Established mycelium is always faster than spores; especially after isolating strong genetics. Did you mean something else?
Yes. I meant that inoculating with a syringe is faster. I put a sticky comment and an explanation on the video description.
Does everything after 3:-00 need to be sterile?
No. You need to process the coir and pasteurize it before use.
This video is a compilation of several video lessons from the Course. Everything is explained in derltail there.
How Much sub do you use? Also how much spores or LC?
I use about 1:1 to 1:1.5 Spawn:Coir ratio, but you can go higher on Coir.
About 2cc of LC or Spore Syringe.
This is a compilation of a few Video Lessons from my Patreon Course.
I go into a lot of details on Patreon:
Patreon.com/KitchenMycology
You just leave the holes open??
For the Spawn Bag, Yes. For colonizing grain (the small Rice or Popcorn Ziploc, I cover with Micropore Tape).
Just like you see in the video.
Think about it: Do we cover any Vent holes in a Shoe Box or larger Tub? No...
Temperature please
Between 72° and 78° F
Yummy
Hey why so Much agar?
The more the merrier. 😜 Depends on how much Agar you're comfortable with using. I always have a lot so I do the extravagant amount of one whole cup per bag or jar.
But if you don't want to be wasteful, use 1/4 to 1/2 cup per bag/jar.
Looks good but why are you misting your already at field capacity coir?
It may not be necessary. Sometimes the coir doesn't feel as moist as I would like it to be. I also like to mist a bit between the substrate and coir.
@@KitchenMycology cool
yowza!
Did you sterilized the Ziploc or something??
That's the #1 Question I always get. No need to sterilize the Ziplocs, they're they're sealed/closed and sterile out of the box. I go into all the details in my Full Course on Patreon.
@@KitchenMycology thx so much
The whole cup? I thought just a piece ?
1 bag of spawn to 1 quart of substrate ?
I do 1:1 parts Spawn to Substrate. Eye-balled, not measured. 1:1 is a bit safer against contamination. You can go 1 Spawn to 1.5 Substrate easily.
@@KitchenMycology they been saying 1:3 have the biggest yield what you think?
Quick note:spore syringe takes longest, mycelium hasn't germinated yet
Look at my note on the sticky comment. 😎👍🏼
@@KitchenMycology that’s true, I didn’t really think about it like that.
@@KitchenMycology just one more question, when it comes time to fruit I see you add the FAE holes and mist the bag but do you leave it until fully grown after that or is there still manual air exchange that you need to do?
@@retropursuit992 You could try it and see for yourself? 🤷🏽♀️
@@retropursuit992 I treat it exactly like a shoe box tub: open, spray when needed, close. Let them grow all the way in the bag.

Spore syringes even faster than agar ??
I agree with liquid culture bejng faster but spore to grain is not faster and it's much more likely to contaminate

You should never put uncolonized gelose on your grain, you are asking for trouble.
It's common practice. I've been doing it for years with great results. The results speak for themselves.
Not true op. The bottom of an agar dish is never colonized and it works fine.
@@thorny3218 Yes but once in your grain, uncolonized agar will be more subject to grow bacteria.
