I think the statement by Eric Leeds says it all. Out of all the recordings he made with Prince, about 5% made it to our ears. The vault contains a treasure trove of unreleased music that will hopefully see the light of day.
Eric Leeds inspired me to pick up a flute when I was teen, purely for his part in the song 'Power Fantastic'. I think it's the finest, most sensitive and subtle and raw flute work I've ever heard in a pop song.
Yeah Prince was and still is an inspiration for me. The songs he created were unique and sounded like no one else. It made me understand that your sound is unique to who you are as a person. It’s a culmination of everything you like or sometimes don’t like.
A little perspective here: Prince also came from a musical family, so he had them to back his dreams up, unlike most of us who are discouraged by family and friends and told to get a "real job" instead of following our dreams. Prince had every single advantage you can think of, and he used them all to become one of the greatest artists of all time. So don't feel bad or "less than" because you can't do what he did. He was born with a silver guitar pick in his hand, so to speak, unlike the rest of us who have to struggle, get horrible jobs to pay the bills, and are left too tired, beat down and depressed to follow our dreams. A few win the lottery, but most don't. And Prince won it all.
