Ahmad Jamal’s 2017 live performance of "Autumn Leaves" at the Palais des Congrès in Paris is nothing short of a masterclass in musical brilliance. From the very first note, it becomes evident that Jamal, one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time, is delivering an interpretation that will forever be etched in the annals of music history. What makes this performance extraordinary is not just Jamal’s unparalleled technical prowess but his unique ability to weave emotion, space, and silence into the fabric of the composition. His rendition of "Autumn Leaves" takes a classic standard and transforms it into a living, breathing experience. Every chord, every note feels deliberate, as if Jamal is taking us on a journey through the beauty of autumn itself-melancholic yet vibrant, delicate yet profound. The way Jamal plays with dynamics is nothing short of genius. He effortlessly moves from moments of breathtaking quiet to powerful crescendos, creating a captivating ebb and flow that keeps the listener hanging on every sound. His use of pauses-those magical moments of silence-demonstrates a mastery of space that few artists can achieve, making the music feel as if it’s alive, pulsating with emotion. The synergy between Jamal and his band is equally mesmerizing. They follow his lead with absolute precision, creating a cohesive yet spontaneous soundscape that’s both intricate and organic. It’s a testament to Jamal’s genius not only as a pianist but as a bandleader who knows how to bring out the best in his fellow musicians. This performance of "Autumn Leaves" is a shining example of why Ahmad Jamal is considered a legend. His ability to reinterpret and breathe new life into such a well-known piece, while maintaining its essence, is a gift to jazz lovers and music enthusiasts alike. This is not just a performance-it’s a historical moment, a demonstration of artistry that will be remembered and revered for generations to come. Ahmad Jamal has given us a version of "Autumn Leaves" that is timeless, transcendent, and unforgettable. This is jazz at its very best, and it solidifies Jamal’s place in the pantheon of musical giants. www.candiano.com

I agree! He looked decades younger as a mature man. I've read that pianists rarely develop arthritis in their hands/fingers precisely because they use their hands so much. "Use it or lose it!"

The communication on stage between Ahmad Jamal and the musicians he played with was supernatural. The absolutely true, and pure love that flowed from the piano out to the audiences I was part of flowed out, and over, and around us with a harmonic embrace of warmth, and taste, and care and so much more. He treated his friendship with my mom in the same way. He was simply the embodiment of the divine music he created. There are no real words to explain. I have never encountered another musician who exuded the magic of this genius and kind, gracious, amazing soul.

Mille ****** / Ahmad Jamal
First time to hear him. A master maestro! Amazing rendition.
Masterclass by a grand piano master -90 years young soon ! July 2020)
Mr. A. J.,
He was my 'sanity' in an insane😫 world of Southeast Asia. Still Cool and Smooth as Silk😎
Like I had said here before, it was his live performance at the Pershing Hotel in 1958 of which my big sis bought that album. I heard that album in 1959 as a 10 year old.
The moment I heard just a few notes from his iconoclastic tune I was drugged, hooked, or whatever.
Thank You
Dean Jackson

@@AndreasDelleske :) nice one
This man has been in my D&A for 70 short years...I was 10 the first time I listened to his music. Do I have a favorite.... All are mine
paul wilkes I to was around 10 when my Mom introduced me to the music of Ahmad Jamal!
My wife and I named our son Ahmad in honor of Ahmad Jamal
Ahmad Jamal is a wonder, dressed as a human beeing. But let us not be mistaken, the wonder sits under his jacket, near his heart. The wonder he promotes love and understanding in his music is a real wonder.
ich kann diese Musikstück nicht oft genug hören, es ist wunderbar
This is honestly the first time in about 15 years that I've actually _enjoyed_ a rendition of Autumn Leaves 😊.
ha ha. too many uninspired jam session versions? or wedding band gigs? maybe listen to the live Coltrane version that's on UA-cam.
@@MarkTarmannPianoCheck_it_out Yeah 😀. I've heard a few great versions, but they're dwarfed by the number of lifeless/soulless versions I've heard (including some uninspired jams... that I participated in 😁). It's great when you hear someone really give it a new spin that feels fresh/inspired.
RIP
I melt inside everytime I hear beloved Ahmad play piano on Autumn Leaves - Cescalovesjazz! My hubby loves classical music - the classical and jazz fusion of Ahmad's playing is sublime!
No ads please, this is a miracle of music!!🙏🏽🎶🙏🏽💕🙏🏽
My God, feels so good. Art.. Passion.. Fury.. Magic. #soulfood
I have the biggest smile on my face as I listen to this. 💜👏🏾🙏🏾🙌🏾
