was lucky enough to pick up a speed 6 two days ago as my first car! 07, 83k miles for 8.4k. Got it from an older Porsche dude! Its crazy how nice of a condition the car is in. I'm excited for the journey I'm gonna have with this car! edit: for all the replies, the car has been great only thing I've had fail was an dry rotted hydraulic line. Car has been running great currently at 97.5k and getting ready to preventatively do vvt and timing chain. Only weird thing is that within the past week my passenger door broke and is stuck locked lol. Not the cars fault my friend pulled on the handle a lil too hard while I was unlocking the car and something jammed or snapped.
I got a standard mazda6 for my first car, but it's a temporary solution. I always thought the speed6 was cool so to satiate my desperation to own one, picked up a 5 speed standard 6. Not gonna do anything with it really the, 2.3 isnt that great of an engine, but I enjoy the driving experience of the car. Had a budget of 4k, I think I walked out with a decent deal. Sad knowing that even tho I love the car I'm gonna sell it soon to help fund my future speed6, but for what it's worth it's still a fun lil car (just wish it didnt rev at 3k at 65mph)
Speed 6's were only made from 2006-2007, Sport & GT were the trim options, Sport got cloth seats...GT got smartkeys with keyless access, trunk & keyless starting, leather sunroof & optional navigation. Exhaust sounds exactly like speed 3's depending on which exhaust you get (I have vid's on my YT channel of my exhaust setup) Most info was correct, but just about all the engine/turbo issues the Speed 3 has the 6 has as well, the engine wasn't revised until 2010 with the 2nd gen speed 3's, Most 6's nowadays are on their 2nd or more engine, be careful if you are on the market, some folks are offloading these cars sometimes cheaply cuz the engine may be on its way out. also ticking and clicking is normal with these engines. Change the oil every 3,000 miles, do preventative maintenance and give it the full beans at least once every drive and they will last a long time, currently sitting at 260,xxx miles on my all original engine turbo & transmission speed 6, also almost NO ENGINE/TRANS SUSPENSION OR BODY PANELS are compatible with base model 6's except for a few parts from the 6 wagon which are just as rare as speeds.
It is important to redline it once per drive, once the car is up to temp. This helps clear out any carbon deposits. A redline a day, keeps the carbon at bay"@@Sammyhale30
The loud ticking noise is from the hpfp, it’s completely normal if you have upgraded hpfp internals, but that’s one bad thing of it, but it doesn’t matter because if you wanna make power, you need to install a upgraded hpfp internals. Btw nice review on the 6👍🏼
I own an '06 in Velocity Red Mica. Visual wise, all it has is LED taillights and black powdercoated factory rims. Under the hood, it's full bolt-on with a 20psi Freektune making around 300awhp. First, you'll never have turbo/turbo seal issues if you let your car warm up before driving and cool down for a minute before shutting it down. The stock Ko4 turbos are nice, quick spooling units that get a bad rep from inexperienced drivers. Secondly, yes, the timing chain and actuators are known for going out. Treat it like a Subaru and have the timing job done at 100k miles and you'll have a clear consience. These cars are very maintenance reliant, so cost of ownership can be expensive if you don't do your own wrenching (the pcv valve and thermostat are located behind the intake manifold... you get the idea). One thing that wasn't mentioned... if you intend to goose it stock or make more power, PLEASE replace your rear differential mount. They're known to shear under high load, especially on the '06. Pardon my rant, I just love my car.
@@rubberducky7474 didn't get the spee6 but I did get a mk5 golf gti. No awd but I got it with a stage 2 tune and it's a fun little car. I've smoked a couple subies with it!
Hello again. Went ahead and subscribed, you put out good content. I had a chance to purchase a Speed6 back in '08, but it was about 3 or 4 grand more than my credit union wanted to loan me. I was a bit disappointed, but got a '06 Mazda 6 that was sitting next to it. I drove my 6 until 2021. It gave me some good, but was finally showing its age, and now I got my 2011 ES350. Thanks for the video, still love this car and wish I could've experienced one.
I’m about to buy a 2005 Mazda6 built in New Zealand apparently it’s stock and done 177kms any tips? I’ll be watching all your videos from here on out now lol
One thing to point out, ford/mazda share the same block. Same thing goes to mix and match with base model 6/3 and fords. I have a boosted Mazda6 i sport 2006-2008 , planning on putting a 400hp capable 2.5 with a mazdaspeed 3 transmission. Making it the only one ever to be boosted and speed 3 trans on a base model 6. One foreign guy had a built mazda6 03 2.3 n/a with speed3 trans. And other guy had an boosted 03 auto.
my reccomendations, don't lower it without a skid plate the aluminum oil pan sticks out at the sump like a nail waiting to get hammered. check and replace motor and transmission mounts they go out (damond makes great aftermarket replacements). let the turbo cool off before you shut off the car about 40secs of idle and you should be good. i reccomend Rotella t6 motor oil (but you can form your opinion on that via ms6 forums). keep up on transaxle and rear dif fluid changes as well. i reccomend a boost gage or an access port (which supports tuning if you decide to mod) so you can monitor vaccum/boost.
Being that low...is ridiculous! I have a stock Mazda 6, with stock suspension, that looks better than that first 6. Amazing cars! Not when people turn them into clown cars...
Bro can you do a reliable fun cars under 10k? Most reliable cars modded and stock. For the ppl that don't want to have a separate daily driver and just wanna daily drive a modded car
A great daily/modded car I would say is a cobalt ss you can get them supercharged or turboed although the supercharged is cheaper the motor has alot of potential and big aftermarket for both of them
You're getting a lot wrong here man. Timing chain stretch? It's scheduled maintenance that people forget to do. My step dad bought, now mine, speed6 brand new and I learned to drive manual on it when I was 12, almost 15 years ago. And I daily drove a speed3 for about 6 months and they are entirely different feeling cars. Handling, steering and all. The steering radius SUCKS on this car. And there are a couple of guys who "drift" them, but that might have been after this video was posted. Two trim models, sport and GT. front tire wear? What? Get an alignment. I've met more non-car people driving them. A lot of spouses that refused to let their significant other sell it. 31 highway? Who gets that. I got 24. Bigger turbo seems to increase the cruise mpg. Yes the bose is sick. Bass pumps so hard I have to worry about it loosening my rear window seal and causing it to squick. Transfer cases are an issue. Mazda NEVER advertised this car. And they would only sell them at mazdaspeed certified dealers. In 2009 my step dad got an engine light in Wyoming and the mazda dealer he went to never saw that car because they never sold them, claimed mazda didn't want to sell them at higher altitudes, but I'm sure it was just because of the lack of population and interest in those areas. Rear diff mount is weak.
Mazda Speed 6 AWD is way better , you don't get the torque steer issues that the Mazda 3 has, since it is AWD, and being AWD it handles superbly has better take off speed too, and can handle muddy sodden roads , will not get easily bogged in mud as a Mazda 3 and will be better off-road and snow and ice
- Makes 274 HP stock from a turbocharged engine - 0-60MPH in 5.8 seconds. - All wheel drive - Manual gearbox - Potential to increase performance with aftermarket mods. Ticks quite a few "sports car" boxes...
My new key card came in at almost $500 for the card and dealership programming. I tried my hardest to find a way to program it at home but the only option was to buy a $400 key fob programmer... nope.
Other thing there are two trims: Sport and GT. Only difference is leather, sunroof, and factory navigation
Ahh thank you man I appreciate it
I have a gt didn’t come with nav tho, which is better off if u ask me at this point lol
@@speedfam3104 mine has it
The GT also had keyless entry/start and heated seats (plus power drivers seat). Nav was optional on the GT only if I’m not mistaken.
