  • This video shows how I make a basic slim 3-pocket leather minimalist wallet from start to finish. I begin with the pattern creation process, and the show the entire wallet construction process.

    ► LEATHER SUPPLIERS
    Wickett & Craig - I typically order their "Tooling/Holster/Carving" vegetable tanned leather. I purchase their "Standard" grade, and I request that they split it down from a thicker hide so the back is as clean as possible. I normally order 7-8 ounce for holsters, 3-4 ounce if I'm lining a holster (I build the whole thing out of 3-4 ounce), and either 3-4 or 4-5 ounce for wallets, journal covers, etc... They will allow you to purchase individual hides
    Herman Oak - While I love the leather I've gotten from Wickett & Craig, I prefer the warmer coloring of natural Herman Oak. Unfortunately, H.O. requires you to buy leather in bulk from the tannery, and buying from distributors can be hit & miss. Springfield Leather sells "Herman Oak Premium Belt Bend", so I’ve been using this lately.
    The Leather Guy - I don't have a lot of experience with this leather, but the "Artisan's Choice" leather I've used has been very nice. The coloration is similar to Wickett & Craig. The thing I really like about The Leather Guy's website is that nearly every single hide shown on their site is a listing for the actual hide you'll be buying, complete with photos and a description of blemishes for that particular hide. Very cool that they do that!
    District Leather - I've never personally ordered from them, but I've heard good things about their leather.
    Acadia Leather - I've never purchased from here either, but I've also heard good things about their leather.
    Horween Leather - At the risk of sounding repetitive, here's another I've never ordered from, but their leather is very well known.
    Weaver Leathercraft - Most of what I order from weaver is buckles and tools, but they also sell leather.

    This is a wonderful video!!! It is packed full of detailed information on designing and building a leather wallet. No stone was left unturned! The camera work is exceptional, your voice is clear and pleasant, and I did not have to suffer through a single note of annoying music to hear you. I am basking in the afterglow of 'tutorial perfection'!

      Thank you! I tend to get a lot of the same questions spread across all my videos, so I figure I'll do my best to call out the tools as I use them. Hindsight, that might cut down on the 'engagement' UA-cam algorithm. Hmmmmm.... Thank you for watching and commenting!

    I have watched many leather working videos and have to say that your instructions and information was some of the most clear and concise that I have seen. I especially liked how you showed your process of creating the pattern. I have been designing and making a few projects for several years and always enjoy learning from the masters! I have liked and subscribed!

    Somehow I think we all start with a wallet like this. I actually smoothed the inside of my wallet after assembly with some saddlesoap and the end of a paint brush. :)

      They're a fun little project. Uses very little leather, and doesn't take a whole lot of tools. Thanks for watching!

    Just happened onto this. I'd never get into leather making, but this was an awesome video!!! You sure have to have a lot of stuff to make one of these. I'll stick to paper and just buy what you do.

    Good work and thanks for sharing! It’s nice to see how everyone has their own methods and techniques. I have learned a lot from your holster videos.
    I have been planning, over a year now, to resurrect my old channel and post some of my leather working. It’s a ton of work to create content. Much respect!

      Thank you Bryan - I appreciate it! I'm a very small maker since this is really just a glorified hobby for me (8-5 in an unrelated field). I'm sure if any of the larger shops were to watch my videos, they'd laugh at some of my workflow and lack of time-saving tools & techniques. :-)

      We all have to start somewhere. That’s what separates you from others. I plan on selling online in the near future and will be in the same boat as you. I have sold a few things but have not had the time to get stuff online due to busy schedule, work and family.
      What started as a hobby has fast become a large investment in time and money. I look forward to sharing some of my work and seeing what you think.

    I think this is my favorite of all wallet ideas. I'm a super beginner. Like I've really only made 1 project ever, but I've been studying foraging long time. Now I have the time and dollars. I bought some nice Bison calf.

      Glad you liked it! Yes, this is a great wallet style. Lots of people make them, for good reason. I hardly ever carry cash, so this wallet style is perfect for me. Have fun with that bison calf! I haven't worked with that before, but I bet it's nice! Take care!

    Great job. It's hard to get a good clean bevel & burnish on oil tan leather. But you did it.

      Thanks you! I have very little experience with oil tan leather. Most of my stuff is veg tan. I guess I got lucky! Thanks for watching & commenting.

      Hello - I have both versions available on my website. Version 1 is the original smaller version that I personally carry, and Version 2 is the one shown in this video. www.adamsleatherworks.com/digital-patterns?Collection=Wallets

    I like to purchase the larger business card holder size. Is this the slim or Logan on your website. My business cards are 3.5” wide

    • @AdamsLeatherWorks
      @AdamsLeatherWorks  4 роки тому

      Hi Nate - the wallets are roughly 4 3/8" wide and just under 3" tall when folded closed. I left enough room in the pattern to allow plenty of clearance between the stitches for a small stack of business cards. All of the wallets I currently have listed on my website use the same pattern. The "Logan" wallets are in-stock, while supplies last, and they're made with thicker oil tan leather. The "Slim 3-Pocket Wallet" is made with vegetable tanned leather and you can select the dye and thread colors, but they have a much longer lead time since I have to work them into my order queue.

    New to leather but have a sewing machine, a good singer, how thick can a machine do before its punch and saddle

    • @AdamsLeatherWorks
      @AdamsLeatherWorks  4 роки тому

      Hi Matthew - sorry for the delay. I'm not an expert about sewing machines, but some household machines can sew (very) thin leather, but they may need some assistance getting the stitch started. You'll want to make sure you're using appropriate leather needles. Thread thickness is another limiting factor. I sewed suede rifle rests on my wife's sewing machine for a while, and it handled it fine, but hers was built pretty well. Then I upgraded to a Consew 206. That was about 15 years ago though, and I sold that machine a few years later. Wish I still had it. They are so expensive now.

      Are you flipping serious?! Asking people making UA-cam videos for free tools? Go out and get your own shit bro! These tools aren’t cheap (unless you buy from China) and nobody owes you a damn thing! This is literally the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen on UA-cam all week
