► LEATHER SUPPLIERS
Wickett & Craig - I typically order their "Tooling/Holster/Carving" vegetable tanned leather. I purchase their "Standard" grade, and I request that they split it down from a thicker hide so the back is as clean as possible. I normally order 7-8 ounce for holsters, 3-4 ounce if I'm lining a holster (I build the whole thing out of 3-4 ounce), and either 3-4 or 4-5 ounce for wallets, journal covers, etc... They will allow you to purchase individual hides
Herman Oak - While I love the leather I've gotten from Wickett & Craig, I prefer the warmer coloring of natural Herman Oak. Unfortunately, H.O. requires you to buy leather in bulk from the tannery, and buying from distributors can be hit & miss. Springfield Leather sells "Herman Oak Premium Belt Bend", so I’ve been using this lately.
The Leather Guy - I don't have a lot of experience with this leather, but the "Artisan's Choice" leather I've used has been very nice. The coloration is similar to Wickett & Craig. The thing I really like about The Leather Guy's website is that nearly every single hide shown on their site is a listing for the actual hide you'll be buying, complete with photos and a description of blemishes for that particular hide. Very cool that they do that!
District Leather - I've never personally ordered from them, but I've heard good things about their leather.
Acadia Leather - I've never purchased from here either, but I've also heard good things about their leather.
Horween Leather - At the risk of sounding repetitive, here's another I've never ordered from, but their leather is very well known.
Weaver Leathercraft - Most of what I order from weaver is buckles and tools, but they also sell leather.

I stumbled upon the leather guy about a year ago and I too love the fact I can see the hide im getting and any imperfections. Youre a true craftsman and thanks for the holster videos - they have helped me immensely.
Did you just use leather dye for the edges? Love that look.
Love your work, I typically buy my leather from Tandy, I normally make tool belts, tool bags (so hides with brands are a HUGE plus) hammer holders and so on, being a retired sheet metal worker my clients are 99% tradesmen, and so long as you can carve and tool some wild skulls and stuff like that they are happy. I truly enjoy your work thank you for sharing
Thank you Forrest, I appreciate the compliment and thank you for taking the time to comment. I need to make myself a small tool bag one of these days.
As always, First Class Quality and educational.
Thanks Ed, I appreciate it!
You are an amazing craftsman. Going to check out the LeatherGuy... Thanks!
Thank you very much! I don't know about 'amazing', but I certainly appreciate the compliment and thank you for watching!
The majority of my leather comes from Frog Jelly in Ft. Worth Tx.
Thanks Bill - I've not heard of them before. Nice to know of a supplier relatively close to me.
Oh man! A whole new world unknown to me. Love the style of your videos. I'm a subscriber!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Amazing talent.
Thank you! And thanks for taking the time to watch & comment.
RM Leather supply has great leathers and offer free skiving
Nice job! The wallet looks great!
Thanks! I appreciate it!
I look forward to all of your videos. Please keep them coming.
Thanks Ches! I appreciate it.
Very neat 👊🏻
Thank you for your review I will definitely have to check them out. I typically use either Weaver or Springfield Leather Company. I could watch you work all day, your craftsmanship is mesmerizing.
Thank you very much, I appreciate it! Those are the two companies I typically have used in the past as well.
Adams LeatherWorks most welcomed sir.
Can you please do a video on the dying and sealing process you used here? The dark edges are beautiful!
Thank you! I didn't seal this one - I just applied a wax/oil balm on the surface so it will take on a natural patina over time. The edges were airbrushed. Some of my other videos show the airbrush process, but I will try to focus on that process more on my next video. Thanks for watching!
@@AdamsLeatherWorks thanks so much! Cant wait for your next video
Love your methodical work. I'm just getting into leather work. Bought a side from Tandy, ready to tackle a project. I'm in PA so I'd eventually like to try Wickett and Craig. I'd also like to try Herman Oak and Horween.
I’m an early stage beginner but my got to for leather is Tandy leather. Like many others
do you have a video on how do coloring (dont know the technical term) and whats that clear stuff you put on
I like Maverick Leather in Bend, Oregon. Great video, thank you.
Thank you - I haven't shopped with them before, but I'll definitely check them out! Thanks for watching & commenting!
Perfect. what color do you use
I like that style of wallet with the three pockets. Will you be offering that on your web site?
Thanks - yes, I do have this style available for purchase. Here's a link: www.adamsleatherworks.com/handmade-leather-goods
@@AdamsLeatherWorks Thanks!
Nice project!
Makers leather supply in elm Mott has been my go to supplier for the last two years. They have great customer service and I’ve never gotten a bad hide from them. Plus they are from Texas so it’s a win win.
I've been to their website a few times, but have never actually ordered from them yet. I'll add them to my list. Thanks for watching and commenting!
What kind of laser cutter do you use for leather?
Muy buen trabajo👍👍👍
Great project, I'll have to make a trip down there since it's not any farther than the nearest Tandy.
Thanks! If you think about it, let me know what you think after your visit.
Хочу стать таким же мастером)))
Top notch, as always. Great work.
Thank you Jason - I appreciate it, and thanks for watching!
when I buy my leather I go through two companies American Leather Direct being my go to and Springfield being my next.
Thank you - I've never shopped at ALD, but I'll bookmark them and check them out. Thank you for watching and commenting!
i use Springfield Leather
I've ordered leather from them as well. Have you ordered Herman Oak from them? Seems like a roll of the dice for the hides I've received in the past, but they're still one of the two suppliers I rely on the most for nearly all my consumables.
@@AdamsLeatherWorks agreed.
What is the name of this oil that you put on the bag that makes the color more beautiful? I would be grateful if you answered me
I used pure neetsfoot oil. Some makers use olive oil.
@@AdamsLeatherWorks Thank you
First, I would like to complement you on your artistry and craftsmanship. I recently found your channel and have enjoyed the content. I made the mistake of buying a store model holster, made for a Glock, because it was roughly sized for my CZ P01. My question is, can leather be reworked and molded to a better fit?
Hi William - thank you for your compliment, and thanks for watching! As a general rule, I would say no - the holster can not be reworked. Most makers seal their holsters with an acrylic sealer, preventing absorption of water - which is required to form a holster. It may be possible to soak the holster (in room-temperature water) long enough for the water to seep its way into the leather, which may allow some room for additional molding. But this usually affects the dye and makes it look very splotchy when the leather dries out.
But, people carry guns all the time in holsters that were made for different guns. As long as you can both safely carry and draw the gun when needed, it's probably fine. Your best bet is to sell the holster and order a new one. Or, leave the CZ in the holster and see if it stretches enough to safely hold the gun. If it's still way too tight, you can put the gun in a plastic zip-top freezer bag, then holster the gun and let it sit a while to stretch the leather. But if the holster was already too loose to begin with, there's not much you can do about it.
Adams LeatherWorks thank you for the information and the quick reply. What I have is safe and functional, just not exactly “perfect.” I may try soaking the trigger guard area to tighten it a bit. Nothing to loose, thanks again.
@ 2:18 I would have lined that up just right, then cut off the edge of my ruler.
LOL! I'm just waiting for the day I accidentally cut off the tip of my finger on video. Thanks for watching!
@@AdamsLeatherWorks Did that the first time I tried the coin trick that I saw garyipip use. Had to wait a week to heal before I could get back to practicing on my first bag of leather scraps I bought.
I buy my leather from either "The Hide House" or "American Leather Direct". I have dealt with Springfield but their prices were a little higher then the outer two.
If you can find the time I would love to see a video on your use of the Airbrush for dying leather, the brand you like and why and some trick do's and don'ts with airbrushing.
Thanks Mike - I'll check them out. I've never ordered from either of them before. I'll see if I can show the airbrush process a little better on future videos. I've really enjoyed my Badger 150 that I've used since the late 90's, but it's the only one I have any experience with.
Wow this is gorgeous! Sorry for my ignorance. What color scheme is this? I would love to order one identical to this one!
Hi Austin - this was dyed with Saddle Tan with Dark Brown accents on the body, and Saddle Tan with Black Accents on the pocket pieces. Thanks for watching!
Adams LeatherWorks thank you so much! Order is placed and I can’t wait to see the finished product!
Seu trabalho é fantástico! Talento incrível. Gosto muito dos seus vídeos.
Muito obrigado, agradeço! Obrigado por assistir.
Really nice work! I may have missed it in the comments, but how did you achieve this darker tone near the edges, like panel? Some oil? Thanks and keep up the good work!
Thank you! The darker tone was achieved with an airbrush. That's how I dye all my leather projects, as a general rule. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@AdamsLeatherWorks Oh, this makes sense. Really nice effect! Thanks!
Feeling so vindicated watching someone else using their fingers to apply the leather dressing 👍 - my wife thinks I’m crazy 🤪. Thanks for another great video of your awesome work.
Thank you! Normally that leather dressing is easier to apply, but it was pretty cold that day. Thanks for watching & commenting!
What are the liquids you are using on the surface and edges, beside the water and glue ? Great video Thank you T H
I used neetsfoot oil prior to assembly, then I applied gum tragacanth to the edges for burnishing, and then I hand-rubbed a wax/oil mixture onto the surface with my fingers.
Thank you for taking the time
Hi im new to leathercraft.just want to know if i have to put mink oil everytime i dye a leather??? Thanks
I don't use mink oil, as a general rule. I use it every now and then, but normally I just use pure neetsfoot oil. You don't have to oil, but it's a good idea to condition the leather with something to restore the oil and moisture to the leather (but don't overdo it). I've used Lexol Leather Conditioner as well - that works well, usually without darkening the leather.
@@AdamsLeatherWorks i see so a simple bick 4 would do it? After ive dyed the leather
Cool
Thank you!
This is the little old LEATHER SMITH, I purchase most of my tools direct in stead of going through a to z company, next time U require a cutting mat try www.quiltersrule.com they have cutting mats in all sizes, the one I use is 8x4 ft. and 1/4 inch thick. Snow is ok I live 2 far south of U 4 that. GOD'S BLESSINGS BROTHER ✝️⚾🙃
Thanks - I do need to buy a new cutting mat one of these days. My current table is 3x8 ft, but I might build a new one that's 4x8 since I have a little more space now and it'd certainly be nice to have a mat that covered the entire table. Thanks for the link - I'll check them out! Have a great day!
Очень классно!!!
Большое спасибо!
