I have the exact problem and your simple way of explaining the process of finding a fix is what impressed me. Thank you. Now I will try to get my 2012 Dodge Journey 2.4L fix without error codes. I will buy the diagnostic tool as mentioned.
2017 Dodge Journey I have EXACT problems. What I’ve seen Dodge has ABS brake system problems often for many years. I’m thinking a recall should have been called many times as well.
Same thing happened to me replaced the abs pump and controller with one from Rock auto and I still have the damn alarm of the abs warning driving me crazy. Dealership wants over 1k to fix and no parts are available for minimum 3 months.
The ECM module is not accessible in the vehicle... It's against the firewall, you can't get to the screws. It has to be removed entirely, unlike some other models.
I have the exact same problem 3 same lights, looks like all Floridians we have the same problem maybe the humidity I just change the 4 speed sensors probably I need to do is the scanner. Thanks for the video
just had this happen to my 2014 crossroad with 131 k i do have the lifetime warranty ( 100. deductible)on my journey BUT they have ordered the part ,but they say it is sch to arrive in Jan of 2023
@@RimShotWiLLEy well it still hasn't come in. BUT today i had to make an emerg braking on the interstate and after that the system work okay, but then the lights came back on after turning it off a, but them went out again after driving it for a while.... I want to clean the connector on the abs unit and was wondering how it comes off is there just a lever that keeps it locked in place?
@@davidstreling3690 Yes, there were some tabs on the bottom of the lever that you need to squeeze and then the bottom lifts out. It pivots from the top. The hardest part is squeezing the two tiny tabs. Good luck! 😃
@@RimShotWiLLEy well since my last post my abs has started working again with no other lights as well, dont know why and the part at the dealership is still on backorder, dont want to mess with anything since everything is back working again
Getting ready to do mine. Thanks for your video. Same issues, same year. Waiting on my new (used from ebay) module to arrive. Question, I purchased the Launch CRP123 before I realized it will not initialized the replacement ecm. Thinking of returning it to get the Autel Maxicheck. Is there anything the Launch has that is better or nicer than the Autel, because I am also looking at maybe getting the Launch CRP919X since it looks like it will also do ecu coding, as well as a few other things (although quite a bit more $$$). But do like the look, feel, interface, etc of the Launch products. Is the Autel just as nice?
The launch has many vehicle brands in the menu, both foreign and domestic. The Autel only handled the domestic vehicles from what I could tell. I wish you luck. Let us know how it goes. There's a certain satisfaction you experience if you can pull off your own repairs. My friends are always telling me to just take it to the shop or go buy a new car. No fun in that!
@@RimShotWiLLEy Agree 100%. I have always done all my one repairs from rebuilds, cars, boats, atvs, motorcycles, engines, rear ends, etc... Only thing I wont touch is transmission rebuild (at least not yet) Thanks for the advise and quick response.
Hey there, awesome video. I just recently swaped my ecm, and after installing everything now, my journey won't turn over. Any info would be much appreciated.
@@ElevationCreation81 Oh man, that's not good. I'm not really sure what to do in that situation. You might want to reach out to a mobile mechanic if you can't find any videos to assist you with that. Good luck and if you can, let us know what you find out
Ive had this same issue for a few years. I changed my front brake pads and have completely lost the front brakes. The peddal goes down to the floor now. The master cylinder has been replaced, bled, as well as each caliper bled countless times. I threw in the towl and a "mechanic" had the same issue as i did and told me i needed a new abs system. Did you encounter any of the same issues?
Have a question for you. I just had the ABS Module replaced in my 2009 Dodge Journey. The person who did it said they weren't able to initialize it, and I would probably have to take it to the dealer. I saw your video, as well as a couple of others, and I wondered if you might know if you have to have the Maxicheck to do that, or are you able to drive it so many miles, and it will "reprogram or relearn" by itself. I saw another post that said they believed it was possible, but I don't want to wait and drive it 50-100 miles, if it won't work. Thanks so much!
I had seen that statement also, but I personally don't think it's valid. Some things will go away after a while, like a tire pressure indicator after you pump up your tires, but I wouldn't think that the ABS ECM falls into that category. I'm not a mechanic though, just a DIY kind of guy.
I just bled them the old fashioned way. I used a Gatorade bottle with some brake fluid and a tube so I could leave the bleed fitting open and pump the pedal, checking the fluid occasionally.
I'm dealing with this issue right now. I see you uploaded this a year ago. Have there been any issues with your repair since then? I just had the brakes done on my wife's car and now the same lights came on. The place I had the brakes done at said it's the ABS module. They don't work on them anymore and they refer people to the stealerships because they said they have had problems in the past getting these modules to initialize. They said they will initialize at first but then the codes come back at a later time. Just curious if there have been any issues since your repair?
No issues whatsoever. It's been fine since the swap. I'm still driving her - over 150K and still going. I would recommend seeing if you can find a used one and go for it.
@@RimShotWiLLEygetting ready to work on the wife’s car tomorrow. My eBay seller took his sweet time shipping the part but at least I have the part now. Did you disconnect the battery before replacing the module?
No luck. The Autel scanner did not work. It says it cannot initialize the module. However, The abs light and the break light went out but the traction control light is still on. So my guess is that there is a wheel speed sensor that is bad but the autel doesn’t show all four sensors. I guess I have to bite the bullet and go to a stealership.
@@RimShotWiLLEy yea, i'm gonna try your method tmrw..but quick question, why not replace the complete used module, rather than transferring the computer part
@@higherregion I guess you could change the entire system, but it was just easier to swap the module out. I bought the car new, so I figured I would stick with the original one.
Very helpful!! We have the exact same vehicle with the 3.6 Flex Fuel engine. It would be fine but hubby is cruise control fanatic, like you. ;) when you purchased your used ABS control module, did you match the #'s, or was it just one that looked like yours with same connections?
I went on E-Bay motors and found several ABS units (with ECM attached) that fit my year and engine size. Was around $66 and had to use the scan tool to 'Initialize' the ECM so that my car would accept it. I already like you and your hubby!😁
Thank you!! We replaced it in 2020, but lights came back on in June of 2021. Due to the shortage of parts, have not been able to replace it.
