  • In this video I will show you how to replace the ABS module if you get the ABS code C2200 in your 2010 Dodge Challenger SE 3.5 V6. Code C2200 means ABS module internal failure and will illuminate the ESP, ABS, BAS and Brake lights. I will then show you how to use the Autel Maxicheck diagnostic scan tool to reinitialize your new ABS module so it will work with your car after replacement.

    So thankful I found this video. It was going go cost me between 1.3 and 3k to have it done. 2008 Srt8 Challenger. They no longer make the ABS Module and I had hell finding one. Even found one, ordered it and then had my order voided being told the part was discontinued. After scouring the internet, found out Summit reproduces them. Got it and had it installed for $90 bucks and used the Maxicheck to initialize in the very first go. The module was $575 bucks but I wanted a new one so that's fine. Scanner was around $200 and paying mechanic to install was $90. While I could have installed it myself, $90 was worth it to not have to, plus, I'd have had to wait a few days to get someone to help me the parts that require two people. I'm elated. No more codes. And it all cost me under a 1K. Don't listen to dealers or shady mechanics who tell you this is going to cost you thousands. This is the way. Thanks again so much. You saved me a ton of money! 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟

    Thanks for your video. I replaced the ABS module on my 2008 Grand Caravan. I purchased a Maxicheck Pro. I initialized the ABS module. It took 2-3 times to pass through the procedure and all lights gone and no DTC codes at all. It is not realy clear how to proceed. I drove the car on a gravel road and applied the brakes hard enough to engage the ABS and it works well. Thanks a lot. Have a nice day.

    Thanks for doing this. I was surprised that there were not more videos showing the initialization of an ABS module to include what tools scanner tools would work. For whatever reason, even the manufacturers of scanner tools do not seem to interested in providing relevant details regarding the tools they want us to buy. As such, it is difficult to determine what tools have what capabilities. Anyway, due to your video, I was able to diagnose a faulty ABS module, replace it, and initialize it on a 2010 Jeep Wrangler using the Autel MaxiCheck Pro. I found the tool to be more old school than I would like, but it did the job. For Jeep JK owners, if you ever need to do this, consider doing it yourself. It literally only takes about 10 minutes to swap out the ABS module and you do not have to open any of the brake lines so there is no need to bleed the brakes. The dealer wanted $95 to diagnose, $800 for the ABS Module and $200 for a rear wheel speed sensor. These are all very simple repairs once you have the right information and tools. Thanks again!

    Thanks for the video from the future since your video was 4 years ago😄. You guys saved me a bunch of money, I did it myself I have to buy an used one, because they discontinued this part, but I only paid $55.00 on eBay and the MaxiCheck on Amazon was $180.00 it wasn't easy to get this old part off specifically the two screws on the bottom, but I did it myself. The easy part was initializing it, I didn't have to drive the car, make the 90 degrees, rights or left or stop 50 feet like you did on your video, I think my MaxiCheck came optimized and updated, so as soon I pressed ABS initialization, it did a few things and cleaning rolls and gave me the passed initialization and done, all the lights went off, I am so happy😀, two thumbs up for your video!👍👍

    I just had the ABS Module replaced in my 2009 Dodge Journey. The person who did it said they weren't able to initialize it, and I would probably have to take it to the dealer. I saw your video, as well as a couple of others, and I wondered if you might know if you have to take it to the dealer or use something like the Maxicheck Pro to do that, or are you able to drive it 100 miles or so, and it will "reprogram or relearn" by itself. I saw it mentioned the 100 miles in another video, so I thought I would see if you knew or not. I did replace it with a new Mopar ABS Module. Just don't want to waste the time if driving it that sort of distance won't work. Thanks so much!

    • @HollywoodHornet
      @HollywoodHornet  2 роки тому

      I'm not sure about the driving 100 miles thing. I have no experience with it one way or the other. Driving with ABS isn't anything that's required by law.
      Does the driving 100 miles need to be done all at one or over a period of time? If they can be cumulative, drive around until then and see what happens. If it has to be done all at one, drive without ABS until you must take a long trip and see what happens.
      If you don't own a scan tool but need one, and want to initialize on the cheap, buy the Maxicheck Pro and initialize the ABS module yourself like in the video.
      If you have deep pockets, go to the dealer. It costs nothing but time to try the drive thing, tho I've never heard of it. Only one way to find out so we'll both know for sure. If you try that, report back either way so I'll know for the future.

      His brakes were working, but the ABS was not. So if he slammed the brakes, they would lock and skid to a stop as oppsed to the ABS pulsing the brakes and controlling the stop. Since everyone knows how St. Louos City drivers are, he wanted his ABS and stability control back ASAP. If the brakes themselves aren't working, there might be other problems. If your symptoms are exactly the same as here, it might be the same issue as the video and thus, this repair is needed.

      @@therealbgbirdgame7889 Are the pads or rotors worn out? How's the brake fluid level? Excessive wear on the parts will cause more fluid to enter the system and thus less fluid in the reservoir. That could introduce air into the system and give the pedal a spongy feel.
      If that has happened you'll need to bleed the normal brake system and probably the ABS system as well. It might be as simple as replace the worn brakes and rotors, add fluid and bleed the air from the system. Check those and get back with me.
      I just recently released a video on how to check brakes and rotors, though I haven't released the comprehensive video on brake replacement for the Challenger. It's already recorded and scheduled bit I don't think that one comes out till later this month.

    • @HollywoodHornet
      @HollywoodHornet  3 роки тому

      I'd just get the cheapest module you can. If junkyard is cheaper, get it and install it. If reman is cheaper, get one and install it. Either way you'll have to use a scan tool to make the car accept the mismatch VIN.
      You will not need to change any brake fluid unless you're changing the pump and allow air into the lines. If you are also changing the pump, this scan tool will bleed the ABS pump as well. Only changing the module does not require bleeding the brakes.

    If you buy the module brand new, do you still need to go through the programming steps? Or is this only if you buy a used one?

    • @HollywoodHornet
      @HollywoodHornet  3 роки тому

      Yes, you will still have to initialize a new module. The module is coded to the car's VIN.Whether new or used it will require an initialization or re-initialization. Only rebuilding your factory module would remove this step.

      @@maz227 exactly. Doing it my way is the cheapest (and best) option in my opinion.
      1st cheapest is buy a module from a wrecked car. Remove it yourself, install it in your car and reinitialize it.
      2nd cheapest is buy a used module from ebay or somewhere, install it yourself and use the Autel to reinitialize it.
      3rd cheapest option is you install a used module yourself and take it to a shop to have them reinitialize the module with their scan tool.
      4th cheapest option is buy a new module and have a shop install it and you initialize it yourself using the Autel.
      Most expensive option is have a shop install a new module and have them initialize it with their scan too.

      Unfortunately I'm a couple states North of you. Anytime you change the ABS module with either a used or new unit, you will need to reinitialize the module to work with the car. I recommend you get the same scanner I use in the video and do it yourself. For what the dealership or other shop would charge you, you could buy the scanner and still have the scanner to use in the future.

    • @HollywoodHornet
      @HollywoodHornet  3 роки тому

      I wouldn't think you'd need an update. I didn't need one and your tool is newer than mine. It's been minute since I've done this, but I can double check when I get home. Your ignition is cycled to accessory on, correct? Engine doesn't need to be started, I don't think.
      I'm fairly certain upon connection I went to "ABS" then scrolled down to "miscellaneous" and from there "ABS initialization". Perhaps I started in OBD 2 engine diagnostics or something first, but I do recall "Miscellaneous" is a sub-option somewhere and you have to get there first before you can initialize.

    • @HollywoodHornet
      @HollywoodHornet  Рік тому

      @@74Fox are there other codes in the module maybe? Like maybe it thinks there's a bad ABS sensor or something that is causing initialization to fail? Assuming the part is good, it should be as easy as I did in the video. I put the used one on (new to me) then it read VIN mismatch or whatever it said instead of the old unable to communicate code (or whatever the original code was), it's been a few years since I made this video so I forget the exact code, and then it should start the initialization. Maybe the car needs driven some first to check the other ABS components? Not sure since I didn't have your issue but do check and try those things and keep me updated.
      I reckon there's a chance maybe the donor car had different software or something in it causing the issue? Like maybe your car is RWD and the donor car was AWD or something? Maybe a different transmission type? That's the only other thing I could think of and I'm not even sure it that would make a difference or cause a problem. I'm just spit-balling.

      It's impossible to incorrectly install. It might have been a used unit that was on its way out. Mine is still going strong. I recommend doing it yourself. Get a unit from a junk yard or used on eBay or whatever. This is a link for the scan tool I used. It's the Utel Maxicheck Pro. It works great or SRS, ABS and OBD2. It can also bleed the ABS system by activating the pump and reinitialize a new ABS module.

      As for the ABS module itself, you could just search on ebay for year of car and ABS module then shop for the cheapest. Though, as easy as they are to remove, I would recommend taking the tools you'll need with you to a pick n pull and pulling the module off a wrecked car yourself. It would be way cheaper than buying used from an eBay seller. They also offer a 30 day return on parts too, so if it didn't work you could return it to the junk yard. If they're cheap enough you could also take a few of them and keep some spares around in case another fails.
