What a great interview, for two reasons - that interviewer certainly has to be Martin Short's inspiration for Jiminy Glick, the they're identical. hilarious to watch, I had no idea. And Natalie Shafer is such an elegant, classic Hollywood character. I could listen to her for hours and never get bored. What a delight. So glad UA-cam gave me this suggestion, for some bizarre reason.
I was very pleased to learn that Natalie was able to give suggestions to Sherwood Schwartz about how Mrs. Howell should act and dress. Not every actor is allowed to do that. I also remember hearing that Natalie and Dawn Wells (Mary Ann Summers) were very close in real life. Dawn was like the daughter Natalie never had.
The funny thing was not so much that skip called Bob John but that Natalie never corrected him, ..she was so classy that she didnt want to make him feel like he goofed..lol
the interviewer is Skip E. Lowe who was a Los Angeles Cable tv interviewer who tried to specialize in interviewing old Hollywood. Lowe promoted himself as "the boy with Betty Grable legs." Yes, he was insufferable. But he enjoyed his moment while the rest of us had to put up with him. He did interview great people, like Natalie Schafer. I saw him once slinking down the street. Yes, he was a character, but he interviewed mostly people who would never have been on TV otherwise. Nobody got paid (including Skip E). They all did his show because they wanted to do. It was public access, and Skip E had to pay the cost of production, so he lost money.

This Skip character is unbelievably annoying in everything I’ve seen him do - doesn’t listen at all - just loves the sound of his own importance. Dreadful. Shame he never interviewed Bette Davis, she’d have sorted him out.
Way off task on including the astrology guy, this was supposed to be about Natalie Schaefer, no need for this guy to be allowed to carry on and on or be there at all. What a waste of videotape and insulting to the guest to expand on astrology instead of talking Natalie's career, whether she's interested in astrology or not. this lady is as sharp as a tack at her age...if I were her I would have skipped out on "Skip."

While I didn't mind the interviewer moving things along without break, or dead silence, some interruptions were not very gracious when Natalie was not finished with her answer to his first question. The astrologer included in this interview was an interruption without cause. What did he have to do with Schafer's life story? It was as if some Nobel prize winner was interviewed about molecular biology and then cut to a radio traffic report. Poor organization and interview technique for sure. What I learned from Natalie was splendid and learned a lot about her career.
Never liked this skippy , a old queen who appears to the stars he interviews and some obvious not pleased at all , that he makes out he knows their secret / own lives more so than the stars who lived it .
Schafer was secretive about her age. For many years, her birth year was generally given as 1912. Few people believed this, yet her actual year of birth of 1900 (which was not discovered until after her death) shocked even her intimate friends.
Yes! That what bothers me most about his interviewing style. I admire how many big names of the past he persuaded to be on his show. But his style was sooooo infuriating. 😞
I would have gotten along well with this lady. Honest, without being cruel or hateful to others. I love that she was an atheist and that she said 'whores'.
