most of the improvment in the 200m record in history aws because of a faster 2nd half of the race so makes sense. now its just a matter of keeping the same 2nd 100m close but the a greater 100m start
2025 is the year that someone jumps into the top 5 or 6 for the 100m. Its gonna be Noah Lyles or Kishane Thompson, thosse are the ones I see the most potential in.
@joshuasanimations I found a website with all the 100m and 200m splits in history that’s regularly updated. Based on what I saw, Thompson could potentially run 9.74 if he reaches his maximum potential, and Noah could run 9.77. It would be super interesting to see what they’ll achieve in 2025.
It won’t be Noah. Are you joking ? Noah has basically fulfilled his 100m potential. He is not/ never will be a good 100m runner. It’s just the lack of competition right now. Kishane yes. That 9.79 is pretty much his fastest possible time, maybe a 9.77 is his absolute max, but that would be really pushing it.
@@StaaaaNzHDNoah has run multiple 9.8 and a 9.7 that's a good 100m sprinter to me lol. Also Kishane has already run 9.77 this year slowing down at the end.

@@samuelzobo4961 I genuinely think, given the right circumstances, conditions, competition and shape, Kishane has a 9.6 in him. I've not seen someone run a 9.7 that effortless in a WHILE. Lyles? No.
Another major factor is money. With money in the sport, top athletes can stay, pay a staff and coaches and have a career. Where in gens past, great athletes transitioned to more lucrative sports. We were always looking for the next track star to transition to the NFL.
It might be nitpicky or just my phone but I found the blue graph hard to see when the 100 m and 200 m graph times were overlayed on top of eachother. Different colors or even switching to a white background would really help out with readability. Good videos though.
Bolt was truly an anomaly of all anomolies in track, but it’s a very exciting time with more depth and closer competition. I’m a huge Bolt fan, but seeing the overall times then vs. now paints a strong picture at how much talent really is out there right now
tbh i cant see anyone beating Bolts 100m WR, we saw how close the Olympic final was and yet theyre still 0.2s off Bolts time and thats roughly 2m, his 200m WR might go in the next 2 or 3 yrs i think, the one with the best chance imo are Noah Lyles, Letsile Tebogo and Gout Gout, a year or 2 back i woulda thrown Erryon Knighton in the mix too but i think that 19.49s was a perfect storm situation that he cant repeat, no matter who gets it or even if they dont im still here for the excitement of the races
All those different factors mentioned that have potentially impacted in sprint performances, but no mention of drug testing having gone into hibernation when COVID was raging around the globe.
The 100m is not going to be broken anytime soon, however I believe the top 5 fastest times will be broken (held by Bolt, Gay, Blake, Powell and Gatlin) by Kishane Thompson in the near future. As for the 200m I reckon Tebogo could break it if he stops slowing down at the end of races.
and it should be the fastest era ever simply because, well, things keep improving like training methods, running shoes, and there are millions more people trying to run fast because there is more money in track now a days.....and with money comes talent, even from third world countries.......and also consider there are more people on this earth currently than any other time so genetics keep improving and the opportunity to participate has improved from prior years......
Bolts Record may be broken in the 200m by an absolutely flawless run by an athlete in the near future. But the 100m will simply not be broken until someone with his stature and even more natural talent comes along. Cause its not humanely possible to have his top speed if you are shorter.
At some stage, whether in our lifetime or beyond, a WR record will be run that will exist for all eternity - right? No one is ever going to run a 200m in 1 sec ...so between that and 19.19 that time will come.....and maybe (just maybe) that 19.19 (or the 9.58) is that moment. Averages may continue to come down, but Bolt's times could be unattainable.
You corrected Noah’s last 100m split on the 200m to 9.24 instead of 9.16, but that’s still incorrect because this year in Oregon, Noah ran a closing 100m of 9.22 when he clocked 19.53.

Gotta give Tebogo a shout. Still only 20 and has mad potential. Gout gout is rising fast as well with crazy closes. Also if Noah gave more exclusive focus to the 200 I think he has a sub 19.3 in him. Hard to say what will happen but it’s super exciting
@@TotalRunningProductionsI think it won’t be 21y/o Tebogo, as his opening 100m is simply not fast enough. 19.2 tops. Lyles has peaked, he’s cooked. Gout Gout stands out like a sore thumb. His potential is thru the roof.
@@isaacola7596 But Tebogo is still young, he can definitely improve his opening, it wont be easy but it's possible. If he does improve his opening then that 200m record would definitely be under threat
nah he already have his best opening 100m during olympic 10.12. Tebogo always run first opening 100m between 10.25 or 10.3 So he litteraly surpass himself during olympic with 10.12s and tebogo doesn't have enough raw speed Peopple always thinks that 200m record of bolt is under threat but in a reality is far away you can think. for beat bolt 200m times you have to be a legal mid 19.2 runner nobody was outside of bolt was able to do it even blake when he did his 19.26 it was with headwind to 0.7 Bolt did 19.30 with 0.9 tailwind and 19.19 with 0.3 tailwind. And bolt run his opening 100m during his prime in 10 sub. So even in 1 round it's difficult so 3 rounds or 6 rounds it's impossible
Assuming Gout Gout does not get sucked into the party life and stays super-fit and healthy, he can break both the 100m and 200m records. A bit early to call but a dedicated Gout Gout improving at .05 a year in the 100m would be at 9.54 and 19.04 in the 200m in 10 years! The best bet for Bolts records to be broken is him as he is ahead of Bolt for now on an age class basis. I daresay he could break 9.5 in the 100m and 19.0 in the 200m if he dedicates himself fully for 10-12 years, he could even progress faster and have both by age 25 (an eighth of a second a year in the 200m and .07 improvement each year in the 100m to age 24...10.04 - 0.56 = 9.48). At 300m, Letsile Tebogo has the record at 30.69 now...Gout Gout doing 3x 10.2 can drop that to 30.6 in the next 5-6 years I predict! Having said that, Tebogo could drop it further himself in the next 5 years as he is still young at 21. The extra 5 years Gout Gout has to get to a level of greatness is huge though. Even at 400m he can have that one too in 10 years at a half second a year improvement pace!
Bolt was 22 when he peaked, fairly normal for precocious runners. Gout Gout has 6 years by your metric of improvement which would give him 9.74 and 19.24. In super shoes.
Averages are tricky. If you calculate number of 9.8s, 9.7s, 9.6s then we would know better. Also, current number shows that all top10 are almost similar level, anyone can win. No special talent coming up .. like it was decade ago, bolt, gatlin, gay, blake, asafa.
When are you gonna address? The fact that anytime there’s been a spike in performance it’s because a new designer drug was created. Same with the Balco clear and then those drugs are testable. You can’t take them anymore and you decline. This is not a change in human physiology or anything. This is a drug change it always is. Not one world record has ever been broken by a natural athlete. It’s physiologically impossible even you saw that has recently admitted to letting people skirt drug test testing so they snitch on others same way Carl Lewis did to Ben Johnson. Everyone’s on something.
If you believe everyone is cheating then why are you watching the sport ? You can always watch soccer.. I am a "conspiracy theorist" myself but there is no evidence to global wide doping in track...otherwise present the evidence.. The 100 record I don't think will ever be broken in my life time I think that records stands for the next 40 years. I think the 200 will be broken by Tebogo in 2026 , with a time of 19.15 seconds .
Top 5 next year:
100m
Kishane 9.68
Fred 9.70 (forget his weird wr claims and remember hes still a good runner)
Letsile 9.71
CC 9.72
Noah 9.74
200m
Letsile 19.2
Bednarek 19.4 low
Noah 19.4 mid
Erriyon 19.5/6 (would like to see him better but his real pr is high 19.6 for now)
Fred 19.6 if he runs enough 1 off races
Yes i know these are optimistic and I'll probably change my mind during the season but I'm hoping for the best for now
Let's ile high 9.7s for 100m? This reads like a fanboys wishlist
@@darelet Yeah he's the favorite for me but he hasn't focused on 100 too much in his professional career. He has a really good start and really just has to fix his transition phase and gain some mass. He's already capable of around a high 9.7 so if he gets everything right this off season he should be able to put together a really good race.
@@darelet The OP said 'Tebogo - 9.71', not 'high 9.7s'. High 9.7s is absolutely for Tebogo next year but I don't think he's running near 9.70, at least not yet.
200 is not broken
Great video. Really enjoyed the analysis. But how is the 200 meters "officially broken?"
People are simply getting faster every generation.
Gout Gout will break both of Bolt’s records ⏳⌛️
That is to be expected. With improved training techniques driven by data and maybe better gears and tracks are all contributing factors.
most of the improvment in the 200m record in history aws because of a faster 2nd half of the race so makes sense. now its just a matter of keeping the same 2nd 100m close but the a greater 100m start
@@TheoOJamaloO1 Noah's a very good 100m sprinter, no doubt. But he's been running 9.8s since 2018 and really hasn't improved enough to tell me he's gonna run anywhere near 9.70. He MAYBE has a couple more 0.01's in him but that's it.
Shoe technology has had a big influence over every distance since 2020
It might be nitpicky or just my phone but I found the blue graph hard to see when the 100 m and 200 m graph times were overlayed on top of eachother. Different colors or even switching to a white background would really help out with readability. Good videos though.
uh, we're not considering newer undetectable PEDs at all??
Lyles and kenny gon get cha
About that Top 10 chart at the 2:00 mark. I find it curious how the Top 10 seems to rise during the Olympic years.
Bolt shut it down in most of his 200m
The man that’s gonna break 9.58 hasn’t been born yet …
They are in Jamaica
We are still processing them
19.19 is no joke. Gotta come good. Lets see a 19.26 first then we'll talk about 19.19
Gout, gout will run 9:40 In the next few years and 19.10 and 200
It a new era, which is nowhere near as good as the good old times when Bolt was running.
Bolt was truly an anomaly of all anomolies in track, but it’s a very exciting time with more depth and closer competition. I’m a huge Bolt fan, but seeing the overall times then vs. now paints a strong picture at how much talent really is out there right now
@TotalRunningProductions but we should also remember the top 5 in the bolt era were really phenomenal, for 100m.
tbh i cant see anyone beating Bolts 100m WR, we saw how close the Olympic final was and yet theyre still 0.2s off Bolts time and thats roughly 2m, his 200m WR might go in the next 2 or 3 yrs i think, the one with the best chance imo are Noah Lyles, Letsile Tebogo and Gout Gout, a year or 2 back i woulda thrown Erryon Knighton in the mix too but i think that 19.49s was a perfect storm situation that he cant repeat, no matter who gets it or even if they dont im still here for the excitement of the races
All those different factors mentioned that have potentially impacted in sprint performances, but no mention of drug testing having gone into hibernation when COVID was raging around the globe.
Times are getting faster?
Who knew?
Leslie Tebogo by now
The 100m is not going to be broken anytime soon, however I believe the top 5 fastest times will be broken (held by Bolt, Gay, Blake, Powell and Gatlin) by Kishane Thompson in the near future.
I think the gap between 10th best and 1st best is dwindling even if the top end still hasnt matched the speed of bolt era athletes
Bolts Record may be broken in the 200m by an absolutely flawless run by an athlete in the near future. But the 100m will simply not be broken until someone with his stature and even more natural talent comes along. Cause its not humanely possible to have his top speed if you are shorter.
There should be a sprint event om a 15 degree incline.
Erm... 9.21 closing 100m in a 200m race? While the 100m WR from Bolt is 9.58? Com'on!
The drugs just keep getting better and better, eh.
What are you doing in track? Go watch something else
That 9.22 split This year in Oregon is still inaccurate.
Lyles fastest last 100m splits in the 200m is still 9.24 in his 19.31 race

Don’t get mad at the facts. You can actually go talk to them about it right now if you want.
So what was his split ?
@@samuelzobo4961 in his 19.53 this year in Oregon/USA Olympic Trial: 10.17 + 9.36
Source: LR_Jefferey & Nat (NSXperfomance)
Remember, 9.3s splits in the 200m is still very fast, regardless.
@@samuelzobo4961 Oh, you're one of those people who, before this video, would argue at me and @Satoshi-Sin_Shinichi CONSTANTLY, saying that Lyles split '10.15/9.16' when we said it was actually '10.07/9.24'. I hope you've learnt your lesson.
@@Satoshi-Sin_Shinichi I really don't know how people like us, PJ and NSX stay calm when someone says for the billionth time that Lyles split '10.15/9.16' LMAO.
It's almost like there was a major technology advancement in equipment being used 😂 in oh..... somewhere around 2021...
W vid
Look out for young Blake 🤔
Why do you call this broken?
Yeah… cos Bolt was so damn fast the sport had to evolve to keep up. That’s what the GOATs all do. However, the new magic tracks, super spikes and sports med account for most of that sustained Bolt-like average
Somebody who 400m stamina is likely to run short distance race's without getting tired easily maybe even break record's
EG Bolt ran lon distance race's before switching to short race's.Just my opinion
"Who will be the single athlete to break Usain's Bolt records"? None of these mentioned in this video mark my words. U can pin this comment that confident I am :)
You’re not taking care of your own graphics: I plotted the final 100m after 2007 and average the face those before 2007 and they are finishing at the same time except from a quantity lying under error:
19.19 secs Jamaica 🇯🇲
Do you think there's any 200m athlete out there that could potentially beat Usain Bolt's record within the next 5 years or so? If so who's your favorite pick?
@@TotalRunningProductions i agree
nah he already have his best opening 100m during olympic 10.12. Tebogo always run first opening 100m between 10.25 or 10.3 So he litteraly surpass himself during olympic with 10.12s and tebogo doesn't have enough raw speed
Peopple always thinks that 200m record of bolt is under threat but in a reality is far away you can think. for beat bolt 200m times you have to be a legal mid 19.2 runner nobody was outside of bolt was able to do it even blake when he did his 19.26 it was with headwind to 0.7 Bolt did 19.30 with 0.9 tailwind and 19.19 with 0.3 tailwind.
We can't say anything right now
Bolt was 22 when he peaked, fairly normal for precocious runners. Gout Gout has 6 years by your metric of improvement which would give him 9.74 and 19.24. In super shoes.
9.48, are u insane? 😂 This is not possible.
The Gout/Tebogo/(possibly Knighton) rivalry will be insane over the next few years!

Averages are tricky. If you calculate number of 9.8s, 9.7s, 9.6s then we would know better. Also, current number shows that all top10 are almost similar level, anyone can win. No special talent coming up .. like it was decade ago, bolt, gatlin, gay, blake, asafa.
so the drugs are really good again
Tebogo 🇧🇼
Sprinting has always been like this..athletes will generally gets faster a a generation..and then there will be slower generation and then improvement once more. .
@ go do research before you make a comment next time I watch because I know everyone is cheating and there’s no unfair advantage ever
@walrussemen8001 right...and all of them can keep the secret somehow... even the ones that get busted never snitch on everyone else..🤣🤣
@@walrussemen8001 True. You can go watch any other sport, instead of lurking around like a vengeful ex that's hell-bent on getting back at an ex partner.
What do you want people to do? Always give a drug disclaimer in track videos? So what is the drug-free record in your opinion, and what critique-free justification do you have for it?
@ ever watch Icarus ? Ever hear Gregory rochenkov talk or the person who did testing in the Olympics says no one passed in the 1988 olympics ? You know nothing
